Have been getting my haircut here intermittently the past year. It's a convenient place. In a strip mall close to freeway entrance. Lots of parking.i find they are not the friendliest, but they get the job done. I got my haircut with no shampoo here. Cost $25. I ve done my color here in the past as well. They are not into details in keeping my hairline clean after dyeing. They have an online system for scheduling which is convenient, but I don't think they look at it frequently. Owner is busy. Not warm /friendly. But I feel she knows her stuff when it comes to color and cut. It's best to bring a picture for inspiration. read more

Lately everyone wants to call a basic color a "color correction "- and their starting prices are over $3-400 minimum- Ridiculous!! I paid $135 and had an all over color, full haircut which INCLUDED what others charge as a "blowout" (since when was not wanting to leave with a wet head considered a 'separate service'!???!! I also had an eyebrow waxing included in that price. I really feel so blessed to have found not only an incredible salon but one that isn't full of inflated egos charging "instagram prices" with poor service. I decided to try out this salon for the first time and I am SO happy that I did! I have such a hard time finding a salon in Renton that can cut my thick hair without leaving it uneven. I've tried out MANY salons in the area and this is one that I will go back to. Kim cut my hair and she exceeded my expectations. I booked a coloring service and she was very transparent on what the color would come out to be with my hair condition I walked in with. If you have kids and would like to bring them to The Salon By Kelly and pay for the service, please DO NOT GO if you don't want your kids to get treated the way my son was treated. I called the owner, Kelly, ahead of time to see if she was available. She said to bring my son in and that there was no waiting at the moment. We went right away since it's not far from home. I also asked her how much it would cost, and she said $16. Sure enough, there were no customers at the time. As you might know, there are some teenagers don't know exactly what they want or are undecided about the style of haircut, so they want some input from the hairstylists. My son was one of those kids. We walked in, after my son sat down, Kelly asked my son how short he wanted his hair and what style. My son told her that he wanted it short but wasn't sure about the style. He was thinking he wanted some input from her since she's been cutting hair for so long. Kelly started to give attitude, and her stern voice toward my son. She said to him "when you come in, you need to know what style you want so I can cut it for you. Now, I don't know what you want and what to cut. Okay, I will cut it short, and you let me know if you like it. If not, I will cut it again. After a few minutes, she asked my son if that was the right length, and he asked if she could cut it a little shorter. Again, she responded with more attitude. I could see it in her eyes even though she had her mask on. Her hand movements, besides her voice, were more harsh and disrespectful toward my son. She seemed to let her frustration out while combing my son's hair. After she was done, she charged my son $19. She said that my son made her cut it twice, so she needed to charge more. She was the one who offered to cut it again if it wasn't the right length and she wasn't even finished cutting when she asked him about the length. The owner, Kelly asked for payment in cash. Otherwise, there would be a $1 extra charge if I paid with a credit card. I had cash but I would rather paid that extra dollar. My son was so mad and cried on the way home. He said he thought she would give him some suggestions since I had told him she was really nice, and claimed to be in the business for a long time. My son asked me why she talked to him like that as a business owner and an adult. All I could tell my son was to forget about her and hope that he son gets treated well from others. If there's zero star for rating, she earned it! PLEASE DO NOT GO THERE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE TREATED LIKE MY SON. read more

Most stylists are only good with one. 2) No appointment necessary - very convenient. If I could give 0 stars I would. They ruined my hair and refused to refund me. Owner is rude and unwilling to make things right. I went to this salon on sept 12th 2023 for a haircut and a simple all over color. It was my first time at this salon but I had done some research and saw there were good reviews so I had made an appointment. I asked for a light brown to go over my naturally blonde hair. I picked out the color I liked on a strand palette they presented to me. Everything was going fine and they said they would mix up the color. After some time of the color being in my hair they took me to rinse out my hair. The stylist SCRUBBED my scalp very hard and was not gentle at all with my hair. After I got back to the chair my hair was wet and I couldn't tell if it was brown or not. They proceeded to blow dry my hair, straighten it with a flat iron, and then cut my hair. My hair was down to my lower back and I had asked for a trim with some layers and they took over 3-4 inches off my hair. I've never had someone dry and straighten my hair before they cut it, as I have curly hair, it has always been cut wet. I understand this is a method of cutting hair, however I found it odd. Once my hair was dry I noticed my hair came out to a orange and strawberry blonde color, NOT brown like I had asked. Not even close. I am non confrontational and suffer from anxiety and I did not want to make a big deal in the salon as the stylists were very nice. They just didn't either know how to mix color correctly or something. I honestly don't know. They kept asking me if I was okay but I was starting to have a panic attack and just wanted to leave. I did not want them to mess my hair up more if I told them that I didn't like what they had done. I see that as my mistake now but I really just wanted to leave. In the end the haircut turned out fine, but the color was not okay and looked terrible and wasn't what I wanted. I paid $160 for the entire service and left because I was freaking out. Hair is an important part of my identity and I was very upset by what they did. I ended up scheduling an emergency appointment at a different salon in Renton who took great care of me and managed to fix my hair and actually make it brown. It still isn't how I wanted it because the undertones are orange and red due to the initial color this salon made my hair. After reaching out to the salon, they gave my number to the owner who called me a few days later. He was argumentative and rude. He asked me to send him pictures so I texted him pictures of before and after of my hair. He was argumentative and told me he saw me on the cameras and if I'm unsatisfied that I can come in and they can fix my hair. I told him I already had it fixed somewhere else and that I do not trust them to fix my hair. He repeated the same thing and said he was out of town and they there's two sides to every story and that he would call me back after the weekend. He called me again today, Sept 19th, and offered again to fix my hair which I said no it had already been fixed and he said he wouldn't do anything to make it right and he will not refund me. In total I've spent double on what I should've spent, just to get my hair right- the way it was supposed to be the first time around. I am extremely disappointed in the service given and the customer service I received from the owner. I am not upset at the stylists working in the salon other than them not getting the color right, they were very nice. I am disappointed with how I was treated after the fact and have not had it made right. I will be disputing the charge with my bank who will be doing an investigation as the owner flat out will not offer me even a partial refund for f*cking up my hair and making it bright orange! I've attached pictures of my hair. The iPhone camera doesn't pick up the color the best due to the lighting, however you get the idea. Came in last month for highlights and the girl did a great job. My hair did feel very emanated afterwards which is to be expected with bleach but it's never felt this damaged after a bleach and I've been getting highlight for the last 5 years. The girl also ripped through my hair with a brush multiple times instead of just being gentle. Service felt very rushed but the results overall were good. She gave suggestions as to which color to choose for my highlights and they all turned out very very nicely. One time she suggested a blonde highlights and I was reluctant at first but she told me to trust her and I did. It turned out amazing! I got a lot of compliments from it.
