We came here for a Yelp Elite event on a Monday! This is our first time at the Domain in general so it was a pleasant surprise that we didn't realize where we were until parking for this event, lol. Check in was easy and parking alike. The donuts were readily available when ordering and the sandwich I ordered took only a couple of minutes to make. I got the chili egg and avocado sandwich, I believe it's called. It was so good! For such a simple sammie, I was surprised at the flavor they added to it. Was on a morning walk through the domain looking for coffee and stumbled upon this place . I know my daughters love donuts so I decided to get a few and take them to them . Very nice place on the inside and courteous employees. I purchased the Horchata, Texas Chocolate Sheet Cake, Cafe Con Leche, brown butter and salt , and the Maple Blue Berry. They packed all together in a box where they are not touching. I took them back yo the hotel for all to try. My oldest ate the Horchata and was in love with it. Very light with a horchata filling and a semi sweet and light frosting on top. My youngest went for the Brown Butter and Salt , she said it was very salty ( more than sweet and salty), so I tested it to assess and she was right. I know the place is called salt but they should reassess the portion on this one . I tried the Cafe Con leche: this donut is delicious. Has sprinkles on the top that give a cafe smell and light sugar coating then a somewhat coffee with milk center. More like milk with a splash of coffee but still delicious. I have the rest to my youngest and she was dancing while eating it. My wife ate the Chocolate Sheet cake : she loves cake donuts and enjoyed this one . It wasn't overly sweet and not too dense as some cake donuts are. My little one and I shared the Blueberry donut later that night and was pleasantly surprised by the blueberry taste with a subtle sweetness. This was a complimentary meal, but as always, my review reflects my honest experience. I started with the Hash Brown Tots--five hand-cut russet potato bites that were perfectly crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and absolutely delicious. I paired them with the Hibiscus Lemonade, which was refreshing and the perfect balance of sweet and tart. I originally came in excited to try the Terry Black's BBQ Brisket & Cheddar Croissant, but they had unfortunately sold out of both the brisket and the croissants. Instead, I had the sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich on an onion brioche bun. It was good, just not as memorable as what I had hoped to order. A special shout-out to my server, Jayna! She was friendly, welcoming, patient, and happily answered all of my questions about the donuts and menu. Great service can elevate an experience, and Jayna definitely did that. Okay yum! This place has been amazing consistently. Bree is super sweet, and always has such a kind energy. I've been there several times now and each time I get a different flavor donut. Mind you I've never really been a donut person, but this place has made me a donut person for THIS place. So far I've gotten the Horchata donut, the mango donut, the café con Leche donut, and the Keylime donut. So far I will say my favorite one is the mango one followed by the café con Leche, their flavor, profile, as well as the cream, and glazing that is used on top, especially the topping that they put on top of most of the donuts all of it is just phenomenal and so good. I'm currently on a mission to try all the flavors and so far none have disappointed. I've also gotten two flavored Matcha so far the regular one in the banana one and they're a perfect blend of not too sweet, which is a good pair with the donut. First off, this is no ordinary donut place. And it's in the Domain, so expect a premium product and a bit of a premium price (their Brown Butter and Salt Donut will set you back $5) in a Domain-ish ambience. It's a very short walk from the Red Parking garage. We went there for a Tuesday mid-morning excursion, and I got literally the last croissant to make an egg, cheese and Terry Black brisket sandwich. It was fabulous, the egg baked like a frittata. My partner had the churro donut stuff with dulce de leche creme, and said it was wonderful. I've also had their hearty flagship brown butter and salt cake donut, and I took home (nice box) a horchata donut for later. The cappuccino was great, but small. Seating was more than fine for a weekday mid-morning, though I bet it's packed between 7am and 9am and on weekends. Service was friendly and helpful. read more

Well, they will run out of donuts. It is busy during certain times and other times it is empty. They don't have a ton of seating inside or outside. Decadent gourmet donuts! Need I say more? The flavors are very unique and the layers of flavors are very intentional. I was walking by minding my own business and happened to side glance the display and the next minute I was walking in that door. The place looks very inviting, I was hyper focused on the donuts themselves though. I got 6 of these baddies to go with me and they travelled well on the airplane. The lady at the counter was so nice, she packed them really well and gave me a nice carry bag to go. One of my favorites was the horchata which had a caramel chocolate coated bottom and a torched horchata flavored meringue. Oh no!!! Salty donut say it ain't so!! why is it like this!!! Salty donut is like that toxic ex that you wish you could be done with but they have some redeeming qualities that keep you coming back. The donuts here are fantastic and the seasonal rotation keeps the menu exciting and fresh. I dream of the day the caramel delite girl scout cookie donut is back in rotation. The kolaches here are also wonderful. Great flavor and always tasty. there isn't a donut or kolache that you could go wrong with here. now on to the bad. Operationally, this place is a nightmare. they are consistently understaffed and the team is overwhelmed. I feel bad for the employees (only 2 during the Sunday rush) they are apologizing to every customer that comes in due to the long waits. They are also out of donuts and their app doesn't accurately reflect that change causing additional confusion and issues. Team members look like they are thrown into the mix without proper training with the POS or understanding the menu drink mixes. Lattes and coffee are underwhelming and for $7 a latte, I would expect more. I think anyone who visits here does also. This part of the review is specifically for operations and management. For a chain artisan donut place, the organization is garbage, the training awful, the client facing team... surprisingly delightful for being so overwhelmed. I don't know what in the PE is going on here and I don't know how this training is done but it is very clearly a profits over people type of spot. Sadly, like a Ex that has promised to change if you just give them one more chance; Salty Donut will leave you... well... salty. And maybe that's the point. If you like brief whirlwind romances with flaky inconsistent lovers then Salty Donut will be your jam. Absolutely love my pastries and Salty Donut offers gourmet sugary and savory options. I won't get too wild these days over noms since we have to indulge in self control in our old age lol but im eating my way slowly through the menu. The everything cragel (croissant bagel) is my favorite, the coconut caramel donut, along with toasted banana milk (gluten free) was great as well! Sweet, dense carbs and drizzled with your sugary buttery goodness, what's not to love? I will say every time we've gone, the kolaches have always sold out by Saturday (11am-ish) so you'll have to be early and quick. Saw that The Salty was open and wanted to give it a try. I thought it was okay overall--I would describe the donut like a Shipleys donut but with better frosting. The dough is a bit dry and dense. I got an assortment of donuts and savory kolaches. The mixed berry cheesecake was probably my favorite of the sample. You can tell they mixed real fruit into making the frosting. Overall, the donut was a bit much with the custard filling. I would say the same about the other donuts I got (Samoa, horchata and glaze). A bit underwhelming. For the savory pastries, I got the cragel with jalapeño cream cheese frosting, the brisket and cheddar sausage kolache. The cragel was probably my favorite, but probably wouldn't get it again. The kolaches were very, very dry. The decor inside the store was nice and modern. I came on a weekday morning and found to go parking on the street. The parking structure closest to the store is closed off for construction so coming on the weekends and evenings might be a bit of a nightmare. read more

We had the pleasure of visiting The Salty Donut on its grand opening and were not disappointed. The inside and outside are good looking and it fits right in in The Domain. One thing that is a big plus is that it's located not far from the parking lots so it's relatively accessible. We ordered a bit of a haul so I'll break it down briefly: the donuts are good, pretty different and interesting flavors all around; the oreo donut holes were okay, about as expected; the brisket kolache was bad, barely any meat or flavor which was a huge letdown; the coffee was pretty good and one of the more standout items we had there. Ordering is very straightforward and the time to receive our order was pretty quick. All this to say we also understand we went to their grand opening so they were on their "a game", which isn't a bad thing, just something to be mindful of. We have heard that the South Congress location is the more standout of the two but for what it's worth, The Salty Donut (in The Domain) is a delicious and fun way to get a sweet treat in. Mmmmm Donuts. The wait has been worth it for a true donut shop to hit the Domain. After hearing all the social media buzz I had to try this place out. Atmosphere: Modern cozy type cafe. The smells of the bakery with a coffee just makes everything taste such much better. Food: A good judgement of a donut shop is just to try the classics. I ended up getting a half dozen of simple glazed donuts and their "cragle". Very fluffy and just the right amount of sweetness. Their Cragle (a croissant bagel) was a great savory option for those not wanting something sweet. Unfortunately my stomach is only so big but I would easily come back to try other treats. Personally I'm eying the Texas Chocolate or the Horchata. Service: Friendly counter top, there seems to even been a small take out window if you want things to go. Into the review! ---- Pros: - Friendly staff - Parking is abundant (parked in the lots) - Simple menu - Uses Intelligentsia coffee - GF/Vegan options (limited) Side Notes: - Open daily from 7 AM to 7 or 10 PM - Open to 10 PM on FRI/SAT What We Got: - 3 Donuts - 1 Kolache - Two specialty coffees ---- Design/Space: It's nice, with tables inside and outside. Sitting there and doing work is a bit loud and crowded, but with great coffee and donuts, it's aesthetically a small yet nicely designed interior. You can see clearly what they do have and have run out of, but it never hurts to ask if they are making more in the back. Drinks/Food: Since they are known for donuts, let's get into the food first. The cheesecake was rich; we had plowed through the first two donuts together by then. It was too much sugar for one sitting (great flavor, though!). Similarly, the cinnamon cereal milk latte was sweet and heavy after the donuts, but had great flavor. The salted caramel latte was good, too, but perhaps the best one we've ever tried. Again, this is post-donuts, so we needed something to balance our high sugar intake. These were rich in sugar, especially the cinnamon cereal milk latte (at least it tasted that way to me). The kolache was good, but if you are expecting Terry Black's BBQ in a donut, get Terry Black's to go and come here to get the full effect. Haha, but it was a good bite to balance out the sugar we got in the donuts and coffee. Staff: The staff was friendly, given the number of people likely asking the same questions during the grand opening weekend. Opportunities to Improve: They could have more donuts on hand to purchase. Better late than never - we've been waiting for this location to open for well over a year, and it's finally here! As a casual customer of the SoCo location, I was thrilled for this north location to open. We attended the grand opening and won prizes ($50 gift card, $5 off, $10 off, and a free drink) which they graciously allowed us to combine in a group purchase. My go-to order is the brown butter salted donut - this is the best donut out there! I also really love their seasonal iced matcha lemonade. I'm not really a fan of some of their other lattes as they're too milky in my opinion, but this spring/summer-y matcha lemonade is a refreshing drink. The location is small since it's tucked into Rock Rose Ave., but it's modern and cute inside and they sell the same fantastic items you can get at the other locations. Order ahead is available and loyalty points are also available. I can't wait to frequent this location since it's much more convenient to me than SoCo! read more

*REVIEW FOR CATERING ONLY* I love the Salty Donut on South Congress (SoCo), and while I haven't been inside the newly opened Domain location yet, the catering order I placed for my executives was top tier. I ordered a dozen kolaches (half Terry Black's BBQ Brisket and half Jalapeño Sausage & Cheddar), a dozen assorted donuts, and one gluten-free donut for an executive with a gluten allergy. They aesthetically packaged everything neatly, but I do wish they had included a visual of the donuts to: 1) know which is which and 2) to sneak a peek at their other donuts. I think having a visual would drive sales even more, so customers can see what they're missing! The extra box for the gluten donut was also a thoughtful touch to prevent cross contamination. Just like the first time I had a Salty Donut, everything was a hit with my coworkers! The executive who has a gluten allergy enjoyed his donut so much, he had to run it back to get another one over the weekend! Some may say the donuts are a bit rich or dense. I agree, it's not fluffy or traditional, but I'm not sure they're meant to be... The texture reminds me more of a good sourdough.
