So I have been back so many times since my first review. I cannot resist the brown butter and salt cake donut - I get it every time! I've also tried a bunch of different menu items. Their hashbrown tots and house chili sauce is SO crispy, tangy, and delicious- I wish it came with more! I love love love the coconut and vanilla cloud matcha, I think it's the best matcha I've had. The coconut vanilla cloud latte is pretty good too (but not as good as the matcha). I tried the coquito latte (ok but not my favorite) and the apple butter and teddy graham latte which was too sweet and the the teddy graham pieces got a little soggy and had a weird texture. This is a new and welcome addition to Hyde Park Village of what appears to be a regional chain. The inside is modern-branded and pleasant and the staff is always very kind. I've visited The Salty Donut in Hyde Park many times in the past 2+ years, and overall my experience has been mixed, which is why I'm giving it 3 stars. To start, I personally find it quite overpriced for what it is. While the donuts are popular and my kids do enjoy them, I'm not completely convinced they're worth the price point for essentially refined sugar and white flour pastries. The coffee is another area where I've been disappointed. I'm a big coffee lover, but I find theirs to be overly roasted and bitter. The flavored lattes, like vanilla or caramel, tend to be extremely sweet unless you specifically ask for them to be toned down. Another major frustration for me has been the rewards system. I've had repeated issues trying to redeem points, both in-store and online. It feels very restrictive ~ either the purchase has to match a very specific amount ($6 exactly with a purchase of $10) or the discount ends up applying in a way that doesn't actually feel like a real $6 savings. In practice, it seems difficult to ever actually use rewards on anything above a very small purchase, which makes the program feel more promotional than customer-friendly. I wouldn't come here specifically for coffee, and while the donuts are enjoyable for my kids, I'm not sure they justify the price for me personally. read more

Surprised I've never reviewed this location. I have been here a few times. It's nice and convenient being at Hyde Park Village. Today we parked at the parking garage across from it. I just realized I wanted to try the yuzu & matcha mini donut which is a great size. The yuzu(lemon curd) really tasted good with the matcha. I ordered my husband the guava and cheese donut. He always says he doesn't like donuts but he sure liked that one and didn't share. It was a regular sized donut. He had his with a hot latte while I had a matcha coquito which was ok. They are nice here, & they let you know when your order is ready. I was happy to find out I had a $5 coupon on my acct so that was a nice surprise to use. We came in for a quick coffee before our dinner reservation next store. My almond milk latte was just fine and my husband didn't mind his cold brew. It was just okay, but not "bad". The cheesecake filling was my favorite part, especially the slightly sour tang that balanced the sweetness. I genuinely loved this donut from start to finish. If I only got this donut I would probably have given them 5 stars. The brown butter donut was not nearly as good to me as the pumpkin roll donut. It was both less flavorful and also more heavy to the point where it gave me a tang of heartburn. Next time I think I would just get the pumpkin roll donut instead if they still have it. While the coffee was perfectly fine I just personally prefer Dunkin' Donuts coffee which is more affordable anyway. Something to consider is the price. You will be paying around 20 dollars for two donuts and a coffee, which for me is a lot. That's partly why I said I would only come back for the pumpkin roll donut which is still worth it because it's amazing. I have nothing negative to say about the customer service. There was also plenty of seating and free Wi-Fi (although it might be a good idea to have a sign somewhere that has the Wi-Fi password but that's not even a criticism as it is a logistics thing). There are 4 tables to sit at inside, a water station, and clean bathrooms. They also have a chic interior. I got one of their salted caramel latte (iced ) which was really good but it was $1.25 to substitute almond milk which I thought was a bit steep especially since I can't have regular milk. We wanted to try a variation of donuts so we got a half dozen for $26. We got the guava donut, chocolate sheet cake, vegan apple pie, glazed donut, strawberry short cake, and brown sugar. I'm going to update my review because I had an entirely different experience this time. Admittedly, I came to this location by mistake. I was unaware there was a new Seminole Heights location and I was invited to a Yelp elite event and came to the Hyde Park one by accident. I told the staff member I was there for Yelp and he graciously told me it was the Seminole Heights location but he would honor the offer because I took my time to come in. That was so kind and excellent customer service. He also recommended the butterscotch crunch donut and a vanilla latte with maple and brown sugar. Both were scandalously good! Having been to this establishment several times, I have a good feel for the place. It's in a terrific location, right at the main intersection in the heart of Hyde Park. Great if you're on foot in Hyde Park, of course, not in a vehicle. Anyway, when you enter, there is a small foyer type area, where mobile and call ahead orders can be picked up. I think this is the way at the Salty, because the inside just is not the vibe. It's very small, very crowded. Like every time. I'm sure they have slow hours but I dont know when those would be. There is always a line to order. That's fine. It doesnt move fast because people are slow to decide what they want, this could be helped if menus were available to peruse before you get to the register. They have a display of the day's donut offerings, which does not help anyone make their minds up, they all look delectable. I've ordered several varieties of donut and a pop tart style pastry. All were delicious. Definitely sweet, but I think they could punch up the flavors even more. They also offer a variety of coffee drinks. Parking can be tricky but rest assured you will be able to snag a metered spot at some point. The staff member that helped us was very patient and friendly. We did not feel rushed to order which I appreciated. The donut options are displayed at the front counter and it's a beautiful sight! These donuts are extremely photogenic and IG worthy.
