Salty Tarpon Stopped by for lunch on Friday about 12:30ish. We ate inside but they had a very nice outside Bar and tables. We ordered a Shrimp Cocktail and Maryland Crab Dip with Tortilla Chips. For our drink we got the Salty Tarpon Signature Punch. Jrod delivered our Punch quickly and soon after our Crab Dip with Chips and the Shrimp Cocktail. A place we had hoped to visit was closing too soon for us to make it in time following a holiday canal Christmas light tour, so we opted to stop at the Salty Tarpon, which was not here when we last visited Punta Gorda. So glad we did! Although there were many folks gathered outside at the bar, the inside dining area had fewer patrons and we were skeptical of what the menu and service might be like. We couldn't be more pleased. Prices were reasonable, the food was hot and delicious and Kelli, our server was very proficient. Our party of three enjoyed two glasses of wine and a cold beer along with some fantastic shrimp & grits, all for only $28 each. Will certainly stop in here again when back in Punta Gorda. read more

Cute little downtown place! We went on a Thursday evening and were pleasantly surprised to find it not slammed full. Hostess was nice and offered us options and we chose to sit outside, there was live music and a nice breeze. Service was good maybe a little slow but they did have some large groups. I had a cup of lobster bisque and a cup of lobster Mac & cheese. Good flavor but there was no lobster in the bisque and a little flap of one burried in the mac. The service was efficient but not very cordial. They allow dogs on the patio but I wouldn't call it dog friendly. We won't be going back. read more

We visited for our first time. We were able to get a couple seats at the outside bar. We ordered draft beers during the happy hour. The bartenders -Emily and Devin- were friendly, responsive, and funny. We ordered food too. I had fish tacos. The cod had beer breading- not my favorite. Loved the mango salsa but too much slaw on the tacos. I hate to be a critic but I want to taste the Icelandic Cod, and it was hidden. The tots on the other hand were awesome! Very very tasty - Hot and delicious. My husband ordered the Beef and Reef sliders. They have steak and a big ole' shrimp on each slider. The steak was juicy and the shrimp put the slider's taste over the top. He had French fries. They were good but he'd order the tots next time. He said the sliders were the best he'd ever had. Now that's saying something. The outdoor music started up at 5. He was good. We had a few more cold beers. Great place to go! We will definitely be back! read more

Back in PG for a show and really enjoyed Salty Tarpon. Fish tacos and a couple beers were just what I needed.

New place in Punta Gorda~ opened about 1 month ago. First time for us..... stopped in to check out the bar area. They had inside & outside seating. The place had a good vibe, so we stayed awhile and ordered the Calamari. The beers were cold, the staff was friendly and the Calamari was fabulous. Served with fried onions on a bed of arugula with a lemon aioli dipping sauce. WOW !!! People sitting next to us ordered the Lobster soup & mussels with some sort of curry sauce, which they said was very tasty. There were several items on the menu we can't wait to go back and try !!! read more

Brunch in punta gorda! This new spot, owned by same folks from the wonderful Belgium monks, has wonderful service, is dog friendly outside, and now offers bottomless brunch on Saturday and Sunday! Outside is pet friendly, covered, and heaters are available. There is a bar outside as well. Bottomless is $25 (single mimosa us $9). Cremebrulee french toast was terrific, my BF enjoyed the lobster Benedict and we are excited to try avocado toast next time. The pups enjoyedthe sausage as well. Hubby and I ate dinner at the Salty Tarpon for the first time. Fun bar outside that had lots of people. We went early at 5. Happy hour prices so house wine was $1 off. It's a bit pricey, but the food is good. I had the salmon dish with rice and asparagus and hubby had the scallops which he liked, but they were small. He got 4 scallops and fries and asparagus. Food was good, scallops tasted good and my salmon was in a bourbon glaze and it was a nice piece of salmon and perfectly cooked. Our waitress was prompt and so nice and took great care of us. What a neat little Pub like spot just off of a Rte 41 Northbound. Super friendly staff, great sandwiches, soups, dips, crab dips, shrimp baskets and a myriad of other food stuff. This spot is super Military Friendly when we finished our lunch I was presented in the presence of my son with a thank you for your service coin. Trying a new spot in town this evening. We are hoping it was just an off night for them. Good things were, no waiting for a table, lots of t.v.s, and Eagles fans excited for the win, so it was pretty loud but understandable. Everything looked new and clean, which I like. However, when it came to the food we had three fumbles and only one touchdown. The menu is limited and a little high for a sports type restaurant. The pretzel cheese bites were pretty good and the serving size was generous. The French onion soup was not traditional with cheese melted over the bowl and toasty on top, but it tasted okay. The coconut shrimp was way over cooked and tough. The mahi tacos had spoiled fish (taste & smell), so they had to be returned to the kitchen. The replacement burger didn't come out until everyone else was finished eating. The skirt steak on the steak frites was very good as well as the fries, but the fries could use some special seasoning, or even a little salt. Soup barely warm. we got the lobster bisque based on reviews of tons of lobster and taste ...1 chunk and a piece of claw..and I got a bowl! The base was good. Also got the Chicago beef sub. Ick. Cold deli-like sliced beef with chunks of cold carrots. And a side of au jus. It was supposed to come with giardinariea on top - nothing like that was on it. In just our first visit, we were shown exemplary service and saw a demonstration of just how to run a successful, well-loved business. When we arrived there was a bit of a wait, and when we finally got a text our table was ready it turned out that the system they use for this made an error and our table wasn't ready quite yet. Really no big deal and we weren't upset, but to make up for this mistake and our wait the owner comped us each a drink at the bar while we waited for the next table available. In no way was this necessary, but in my opinion it's a phenomenal way to run your business. Now, here I am writing a review, which I almost never do but wanted to today because I was so impressed. On top of this, our food & drink were prompt and delicious, and all of the staff were kind and courteous and attentive. I would absolutely return & recommend others do the same. Coming from someone who has worked in the restaurant industry for years, the service this establishment demonstrated this evening was exactly what any successful business should be doing--going out of their way to provide quality service, make customers feel seen, and overall just cultivate a good atmosphere. The food is overpriced for what you get. I'll start off with the food that we would order again. The crab dip and lobster Mac and cheese were very good. I had the tuna tower and it seemed to skimp on the actual tuna and avocado. My husband ordered the snapper and it was cooked very well but the crab risotto didn't have much of a crab flavor or flavor at all. My sister in law had the mahi and she said it was a very small piece of fish for the price especially with no vegetables served with it. My father had the lobster bisque and fried grouper bites and he was not impressed. He is not a hard one to please either. My mother in law had the fried shrimp and she thought it was just ok. My son ordered the buffalo chicken dip and it came out awhile after we all had our food. It was a bit spicy that most places that serve it. There was a large amount left even after everyone tried it. The portobello fries ($16) picture at the forefront of their Yelp profile is what drew me in. Of course, I ordered it and it did not disappoint. Well battered and came with two different sauces (some kind of horseradish aioli and curry sauce with a kick). There were no leftovers. We had a group of 5 (two ordered their Kona beers and the rest ordered waters with lemon...the waitress provided plenty of lemon wedges on a small plate). Overall, a very clean and inviting space. There was live music outdoors, but my friend wanted to go inside due to having been in the heat for hours prior. There's a beautiful wall with a wood crafted American flag decorated with military coins for those who have served. They ran out of shrimp as they have a special order of fresh seafood so when they're out, they are out. Noticed the freshness and al dente texture of the fettuccine so I inquired whether it was made in house. I was pleasantly informed that the pasta was made from scratch as I suspected. How cool is that?! We shared the Shrimp & Crab Fettuccine $39 (sans the shrimp since they ran out) and the Snapper Risotto $32 (also sans the shrimp for the reason previously noted). Outstanding! Been coming to Florida for over 35 years. I've eaten at the best (and average) restaurants. This is among the best. Ordered the redfish and my wife had the grouper. Unreal preparation. Super fresh. They don't have a freezer and the fish comes in fresh every day. Try the portabello fries appetizer and the burger looked huge and amazing. Our server was (Kelly?) the bartender. Super knowledgeable and friendly. We even met the owner, Kenny, who was watching over things. Super cool local that runs a tight ship. Old school Florida bar ambiance just the way I like it. Very disappointed. The quality of the food was not very good, adequate at best. 4 of us visited last night, 2 ordered the shrimp and crab linguine. Linguine seemed to be over cooked and was mushy. For a $39.00 meal there were only 2 shrimp and a tablespoon of crab meat at the most. My wife and neighbor ordered the salmon, and their comments were overcooked and just OK as far as taste. Sorry but I will never go there again. Very limited menu, overpriced, slow service and just OK taste. Our waitress was plesant and friendly but seemed new.
