Now who would turn down something that is almost free?! LOCATION: Located near Fisherman's Wharf, it's easy to spot since it's at the corner and their building is lime green! The store is loaded with lots of different kinds of bikes and the workers are very friendly! Immediately upon entering the store, they will request that you sign in and fill out a waiver. BIKES: They have an abundant stock of different kinds of bikes. From comfort hybrid to electric to tandem bikes, they've got most of it! Now the prices of course vary depending on which bike you decide to bike. The group I was with were experienced bikers so it was road bikes for them, but I haven't hopped on a bike in years so I was debating between the comfort hybrid (a traditional bike) or an electric bike. After hearing that there is a slight elevation gain on the route to Golden Gate Bridge, I opted for the electric bike and was NOT disappointed whatsoever. In fact, if I had a regular bike, I probably wouldn't have enjoyed the bike ride as much because I would have had to walk the bike up the several hills we encountered. If I walked up, I would have been left behind by the group or they would have had to just wait for me at the top. I know for sure I would not have had a fun experience. Prices do vary depending on the bike you rent and how long you choose to rent it. The electric bike was $65 and the road bike was $45 for full days. They have clip pedals if you need it, but I needed just regular pedals. Once you have rented your bikes, you're on your way! You have the value of the rental in store credit to use at Sports Basement (which is like an REI.) So for example, we paid $110 to rent the bikes. We got store credit for $110 to buy ANYTHING in the store. We opted for something small since we had to be able to pack it back with us home. They do ship your items for free IF you are a part of the 48 mainland US States. Since we are not, we had to lug it home ourselves. BIKE RIDE: You have the freedom to ride wherever you choose to, but don't miss out on the bridge! You can ride across it too! Keep in mind that the bridge is fairly narrow and experienced bikers ride rather quickly past you. If you're still getting accustomed to the bike, I recommend taking a short ride to get your bearings first. Fisherman's Wharf to the Golden Gate Bridge is a decent trip by itself, but I still felt a little shaky going over several bumps. Definitely something I would recommend when visiting San Francisco. Not only do you get to see and experience the bridge, you also get in some exercise! Happy biking! Would love to hear your stories of riding across the bridge!

Things started off great. The clerk was friendly and walked me through how to use the bike. We left…read moreand I soon noticed a noise but I hadn't ridden an ebike before so I didn't know what was normal. It turned out the rear brake was out of adjustment. However, I didn't figure that out until later. We set out and all was well. In Berkeley I got a flat tire. We called the emergency number. They said we can't rescue you from there, it's too far. They do rescue from Sausalito which is roughly 11 miles from SF, and Berkeley is roughly 13 miles from SF so that doesn't make sense. They said, go to a repair shop (my husband is basically a mechanic and we had a pump but the tire wouldn't take air because it needed a new tube.) The guy on the phone also suggested going to a gas station, even though we explained the tire wouldn't take air. By the way, they don't give you tools or anything. And-in case you don't know, replacing a rear tube/tire on an ebike is way more complicated and involved than a traditional bike because there is a drive train and wiring, etc. He said they would reimburse the cost up to $30. We were so lucky that we were in Berkeley, about a mile from REI which has a bike repair shop. I don't know what we or anyone would do if you were no where near a repair shop. REI replaced the tube and it cost $56. We continued on our way, and eventually returned to Bay City. They would not budge on the reimbursement and insisted on taking our REI receipt-not sure why, they weren't going to help us. If you aren't going to support your customers, you can't rent out bikes which do require constant maintenance and repair. The going rate to replace a rear tube on an ebike is $56. Reimbursing half of it is unacceptable. I would never go back here, and I cannot recommend it in good conscience.

She not only helped me with my technique (and some mental blocks), but helped me dial in some of my bike fit and basic handling I'd been doing wrong. Called three times to get reservations as mentioned, each time the guy said he would call back and never did. So, decided to finally show up the day of, and he started throwing a fit about how we had no reservation! I countered with a fit about how I had tried and basically gotten no response from them. After 10 mins of this back and forth, and the other bike company across the street actually offering the same price, the guy decided to honor our Groupon! Unpleasant interaction and unpleasant start to our entire trip. Never again, please go with other companies, the rates(16$) were also offered by the place across the street. Oh and the bikes were old and creaky too!

What a gem this place is ~everybody's friendly. There's a great vibe and it's a must visit destination. I don't remember having so much fun ever. The band that was playing was so fantastic.
