Our first time here today and we really enjoyed it! It has a nice little outdoor area with covers so that you can still get some shade. We ordered the jalapeño poppers and they were delicious! We also ordered the apple walnut chicken salad, a burger with fries, short ribs and the buffalo chicken wrap. Everything was really good and the prices are reasonable. Only negative is that there was is a slight sewer smell that wafted over every once in a while. But hopefully this isn't a regular occurrence. read more

A friend and I were on a circuitous mountain drive back from Santa Cruz to San Jose and we decided that we wanted to grab dinner along the way and found this spot on an internet search and were VERY HAPPY that we did. The sun was still up and we sat at one of the picnic tables out on the large astroturf lawn and had some difficulty making both beer and food selections as there are so many appealing choices in both categories, we ended up with French Dip+fries (me) and Baja Wrap (with some customization)+salad (friend), all was delicious and we had a lager and a pilsner from the well curated tap list. Our waiter was super helpful and attentive. After we'd finished eating we retired to the adirondack chairs on the lawn to finish our beers and enjoy the last of the sun. The lawn area has lots of very tall redwoods and other trees behind it and it is a very pleasant place to sit. All in all an A+ experience and we'd definitely go back! read more

Went here for dinner last month on a friend's recommendation. I really liked this place. It has a nice woodsy vibe amid the trees, clean, and appears newly remodeled inside and out. (I see they have a very nice outside eating area/beer garden - but it was a little cool/rainy for us that evening). All of the staff were helpful and friendly and the service was great! They have an incredible beer list on tap, so I found a nice amber on tap. We had burgers (a Wagyu blend)....they were really good. I got mine with onion rings -- so it was the perfect meal! My husband and I came here for the first time in December 2022 and I had the best smash burger I've ever had in the South Bay - my husband kept staring at it silently asking for bites and I've been thinking about it ever since. We recently returned to The Sawmill and both ordered smash burgers and it was just as good as I remembered. The fries and onion rings are also on point! The first time they were understaffed and swamped, but the service was still very friendly and this most recent time, it was much slower and the service was amazing! We had our wedding rehearsal diner here and the staff we fantastic to work with! The food was on point (pasta, chicken, salad and fries). I'm so glad we stopped in! We have ridden past the Sawmill on our Sunday rides several times and finally stopped in and we were in for some serious eats. The diversity of the menu was perfectly suited for our group and we have eaten all over the mountain and yet to have such awesome grub like we did at the Sawmill. One of the best burgers Ive ever had and their house sauce was soooo good. The onion rings are on point and two weekends ago the Chef (who is spot on) made a insanely good Artichoke soup that would rival anyone's. The price point of their menu is perfect, the service is fast and efficient and everyone that works their is so cool to chat it up with. Not to mention the beer list is killer and the music hits home! If you haven't been to the Sawmill yet its a must before you leave town or enter town cause your missing out if you don't!! I give only two stars because the place looks nice and the patio outside is a plus. We ordered 3 burgers which costs $13.95+ each. Nothing fancy and a basic burger. One star less. Now, if you want to have cheese on the burger that is an extra dollar, grilled pepperonis extra $1.50, grilled onions extra money... etc etc the extras I understand, but cheese?? Really? We had one of the worst dining experiences of our lives at the sawmill. My pregnant wife left this restaurant in tears. The wait staff is completely inept and has no communication skills whatsoever. We waited for over an hour for my food. At this point we were committed so we waited another half hour for my son to receive his cold mini corn dog plate. At the two hour mark we gave up on my wife's food coming out. Apparently they had given her food to another table. No communication or apologies from our waiter. Just a bill when we asked. I really wanted to like this place. I would only recommend visiting this place if you want to wait extended periods of time for mediocre greasy food served by a stoned out wait staff that will likely mess your order up. read more

We insisted on staying because there are no other food options in the area. We ordered wine which came out warmer than even room temperature. The food was 2 out of 5 at best. When we had finished our meal we had waited patiently for our check to arrive, but the staff was too busy talking to one another to notice. Our $20 burger came charred when I ordered medium. returned it and after 45 mins of waiting to have them bring out a new one we left without eating. The waitstaff seemed to think it was nice of them to not charge us for it. Out of the 4 times we've come here, the kitchen has never got its act together. My wife had the burger with fries and it was delicious also. They plan to expand their menu. They are still getting the glitches out as they only opened a week ago but are friendly.
