Was doing a little pre- sabbatical prep and walked in wondering what if my sabbatical had a scent? Casey was so patient getting to know what I liked and bringing me samples along the edges of my tropical request . He was also very patient and encouraged me to go outside too to give my nose a break and also smell the final two fragrances in the running on my skin. Once I decided he explained the return policy and reminded me to smell perfume on my skin to make sure I liked how it progressed. Ok. I cannot speak highly enough of this space and staff. DO KNOW - it is not a poor man's game, most bottles are in the 200+ range (or maybe I just have expensive taste) . Now that I've gotten that out of the way, the staff here is A tier, very welcoming, kind, and unpretentious. We came here on a whim and kept coming back because the staff was so available; we came 3x before we bought anything, staff remembered us, offered samples, and was just generous in their time and expertise. I've tried other perfumeries in the city and it just doesn't compare, in the service department. Last time - I asked for scents for pairing so I can maximize the first scent I had gotten, with the idea of I can wear 1 or 2 or 1 and 2 together and they had fantastic suggestions. The Scent Room in Larchmont is beautiful, but the attitude doesn't match the aesthetic. I asked one of the employees if they carried more from a certain perfumer after smelling a scent. He gave me a snarky response, something like, "we don't work with that brand anymore," paired with an eye roll. It was enough to make the whole place feel cheap. TSR carries brands that are hard to find and of which many have not heard. It is literally an amusement park for your nose. If you look at my past Yelp reviews, you'lI see that I don't leave negative reviews. I'm leaving this review in hopes that no one else has the same negative experience at this store, or the store changes their policy to at least inform customers their return/exchange policy before/at the time of their purchase. I purchased a bottle of perfume around 1:10pm, and went back a few hours later to return it because I did not like the scent. I was then told that I'm unable to return it and get a refund because I had opened the box. They did not inform me of their return/exchange policy at the time of the purchase, and their receipt/email did not specify as well. It's unfortunate that I can't return a product I am dissatisfied with and won't be using, but it's more unfortunate the store did not provide any of this information prior to accepting my payment. read more

It's a beautiful store. Definitely a strong scent as you walk in which I didn't mind but I can see one not liking that if you don't like the scent. The shop has a variety of perfumes - I'm not really a scant gal so I don't know if they're any good/rare brands or not. I enjoyed browsing since even the bottles were very pretty It was nice that they encourage you to try as much perfume as you like. If you're lost, they can help guide you in finding scents for you to try. They have pens to write what scent you sprayed on the stick was. They of course have coffee beans and they have scent less wet wipes if you sprayed something and want to wipe it off The best part is that I never want to commit to a large bottle of perfume because I don't use it often and it's very expensive. Well, you can purchase a sample of pretty much anything in the store! Sample prices range $8-20 (depending on how big or small the bottle is aka per ounce price) and I think that's a nice offer to have for people like me who just wear scents here and there or people who want to try it out and see how it changes with time before committing. read more

Amazing experience! I am not into fragrances too much, but my boyfriend and I came here for our friend who doesn't live down here. It honestly got me into finding my scent and what I liked and wanted. I wish I got the name of the employee that was helping us, but he recommended SO many scents that I really enjoyed. He was super friendly and thoughtful as well as extremely knowledgable. The other staff seemed extremely helpful as well. There were a lot of "niche" brands and scents here which was really interesting to smell and learn about. Would definitely come back if/when I'm in the area! read more

Three stars only because they have an absolutely phenomenal collection of fragrances to choose from. However, the staff is absolutely terrible, every time I've walked in here I never get approached or offered any help. I've always had to be the one to wave someone over to help me. And because it's been a repeated experience now I think that these workers are racist. I'm sure that once they get the notion that you're absolutely buying something (regardless of race) that they treat everybody the same however, if you're not immediately giving off that vibe, it seems that they don't even look your way. I won't share all of the experiences, but I will share one of the most obvious ones where I walked in and the store was empty, a few workers were just hanging around none of them ever approached me or said a word, but the minute that a group of white women walked in they were immediately approached, and the sales rep gathered a bunch of different fragrances for them to sample at one of the counters, meanwhile I was still on my own. Anything that I've purchased from the Scent Room has just been online because I refuse to walk in and feel like I'm not welcome after a few experiences. I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt, but it has been repeated so I genuinely believe this establishment is racist. Very sad because I am very passionate about my fragrance collection but will be looking for a more welcoming establishment. read more

First time at The Scent Room yesterday & I am already planning to go back ASAP. The entire staff is warm, welcoming & incredibly knowledgeable about all of their fragrances. I never felt pressured or rushed. They let me explore at my my own pace. They also gave me impeccable suggestions on other scents to try (ie, if you like that one, you'll LOVE this one). Tom was my guide through most of my exploration & exposed me to my new favorite perfume. I felt like he understood what I was looking for before I did. My olfactory senses were overwhelmed in the best way! I had originally come in looking for certain fragrances to try & ended up with something completely different! As soon as one enters The Scent Room, one's nostrils are assaulted by an overwhelming cloud of hypertrendy artificial musk. The place seems to be dosing ambroxan the way Abercrombie and Fitch stores used to pump in their noxious fragrance called "Fierce." The smell is so strong that it distracts from sampling the actual wares on sale there. The Scent Room is a new L.A. outpost of a "niche" perfumery out of Dallas. "Niche" perfumes are 99% about snob appeal, with the idea that having a fragrance made by some self-proclaimed "artiste" with an elaborate backstory makes up for the fact that it 1) is almost certainly an unoriginal, simplistic composition; 2) is of fairly poor quality; and 3) costs a ridiculous amount of money, especially considering points #1 and #2. But look at the wacky bottle! And what a weird name! It's got to be cool, right? Some of the brands on offer I knew (Lubin, État Libre d'Orange, Carner, Montale) and others I did not. Of the ones I knew, I could tell they were only offering very partial offerings of their lines. Many well-known niche brands both of the fancy (Creed, Penhaligon's, Houbigant, Parfums de Marly) and edgy (Comme des Garçons, Memo, D.S. and Durga, Byredo) varieties are not represented here. The Scent Room's selection is a scant fraction of what is on offer not too far away at local competitor ScentBar, and not nearly as compelling. The Scent Room motto on the sign board out front reads "fragrance for all," but looking at the limited offerings at obscene prices, I'm compelled to ask, "How do they define 'all'?" With a small selection of product, high prices, and that suffocating smell of terpenoids hanging heavy in the air, The Scent Room adds very little to L.A.'s already oversaturated expensive artsy perfume scene. read more

Casey, Tom and Cosie were some of the most eager and fantastic faces to rep a brand, each one wanting to help find a great scent, recommend something to fit my tastes, offer detailed knowledge of a scent and also we're just so wonderful to talk to and learn from. The incredible scent wafting from the store is what first drew me in while strolling down Larchmont. As soon as I stepped inside, I was warmly greeted by the kind, welcoming staff. A distinctive and memorable experience. They say you only get one chance to make a first impression: my impression was a culture of exceptional service and hospitality. Being that they just opened (congratulations by the way) , everyone is on their A-Game (as they should be) and is intentional with their service to customers. I really really appreciate that . The store is clean and aesthetic. Even the restroom is very nice. We were on a date and specifically chose to visit this place for a scent exploration night. We came home with 2 new fragrances to add to our collection (Nishane hundred silent ways x and Montale Intense Cafe) as well with a curated collection of samples we look forward to trying out. There were some fragrances I wish I could have tried out like Vertus Vanilla Oud, but I realize they are just starting out and finding their rhythm. Even weeks later It was on my mind to visit since i've never visited walked in today and had such a welcoming experience and not just because they did their job but it felt like they were actually interested and excited to find the one i loved and even when i was satisfied they still brought out another for me and it ended up being my favorite and ended up purchasing a sample. What sets this place apart is their customer service and they are especially not pushy. They genuinely want to find you the fragrance that aligns with what you're looking for. Also, their fragrances are fairly priced compared to the retail market and even if it was higher in store, I enjoy supporting local and am willing to pay more just because their service is that stellar. I went for my birthday, and 6+ hours and I still had fragrances I need to go back for. If you're a fragrance enthusiast like me, this place will be special because of the amazing staff. They are all fragrance enthusiasts and KNOW their stuff. Just speaking with them was half the fun. Casey, Grace, and Tom were all knowledgeable, friendly, and extremely welcoming. Huge range of scents, many of which are exclusive to this store for the entire US! Gotta be over 1000 different perfumes. The staff are all really warm, kind and knowledgeable, meeting everyone where they're at. Scents started at around $60, so I like that there are affordable options and they have a store credit based loyalty programme that takes the sting out of higher price purchases. All in all, a great experience, I'd recommend going on a week day when it's less busy so there's less fragrance in the air, and less people in the store. I had quite the stack of sample slips by the time all was said and done, and there was really not much of my arm left to spray on by the end of my shop, but he seemed truly invested in me finding something I love, as opposed to pushing any particular perfume house or scent on me. Very nice store, I love the fact that I was able to browse and smell things on my own without being too bothered or pressured (like most fragrance retailers do). They have a wide selection, all niche and independent brands. I do suggest however going outside to smell a scent on yourself, as the inside can get a little stuffy of different mixes of fragrances and can interfere with how it smells. I spent a pretty long time in the store, and the associate (I think her name is Gracie, she had a blonde bang-bob going on) was super chill and gave me some opinions and options. I ended up buying a full bottle; while they do sell and make samples, they were unable to sell any that I wanted due to tester bottles being low and them not being in stock of any backup bottles. But perhaps I just went on a bad day. read more
