We live in San Clemente and have always done our best to support local businesses; we hired The Screen Guy under the same premise. Unfortunately we didn't have a good experience with the Screen Guy, for the following reasons: Regarding cost: we noticed that for double french doors screens, The Screen Guy charges double the price of a single French door screen, which is not what other businesses do: they charge only once for the door mechanism, and for the screen material twice. This represents a significant unjustified cost increase at the Screen Guy over other businesses. Regarding installation: when we initially contacted the Screen Guy business (spoke with Mia first, then with Coby when he came over for the estimate), we mentioned that we would only do business with them IF their installed screens cleared the door handles of the existing French doors. They assured us this would be the case. The matter was discussed three times, at the time of initial call, estimate writing, and the day of installation. What could be clearer than this?!? We initiated business with them under the understanding and agreement that the screen would clear the door handle of the French door, and not hit over the door handle when closing. However when Coby completed the installation, we were up for a big surprise and disappointment!!! The screen did NOT clear the door handle, which is against what we were told three times. When it's a bit windy and/or the door closes unexpectedly, the door handle bangs against the screen with risk of damaging it by ripping it off (which was precisely what we were trying to prevent from happening!!!!). So now we paid for the installation of a very expensive screen door that we cannot use due to this installation issue. Regarding customer service: besides the above two points, which are already significant, they inadvertently left a couple of spaces between the screen and the door, which allow insects to get in; this issue was due to improper installation; Coby promised to come back to our home and fill the holes for us. Sadly, it never happened! Hmmm Update one year later: one year after this review was posted, NO ONE from this business called us to apologize for having misinformed us, misquoted, upped the price and lowered the quality of work. No one from the business offered to come back and fix the issues. This is a clear indicator of how little they care about their customers! read more

My realtor arranged for The Screen Guy to replace screens and a bent screen frame in a rental house we were selling. He not only did a quick and professional job of replacing the screens but straightened the bent frame, saving us the cost of a replacement. He could easily have just replaced the bent frame and taken the extra revenue - I would never have known, nor would my realtor. The fact he didn't points to an ethics code that is rare and valuable. We have an amazing ocean breeze that comes over the hills into our home. Only challenge is the houseflies like to come in as well! Had Coby come out and not only did he do a great job installing an invisible screen that goes to the garage but noticed that there was a fog in between one of my windows to the house. He took the initiative to call the window manufacturer and set up an appointment for them to come out and replace it for free since it is under warranty. I had Coby come out and replace 2 screen sliding doors that were original to our KB home (I.e. Cheap and broken long ago). The new screens exceeded my expectations and was installed timely after giving them the go ahead. The real value in a relationship with The Screen Guys is their craftsmanship in repairing broken window parts! It is nearly impossible to find a "window guy" to fix things since due to parts or it's not worth their time. Very honest estimate and they offer options based on your budget and level of DIY skills. Some people complain that they are not reachable. Don't mistake their laid back beach vibe or attitude with not caring. They aren't your typical OC salesmen/ contractor (i.e. They are local and friendly). Plus I'm sure they stay really busy!! Overall, they saved me money by providing a professional opinion and product. I had them return to fix a problem on my new screen sliders and to rescreen an addition 6 windows. I called them once to remind them and to check their schedule. They sent someone from their shop that day and my screens were installed the next day! read more

I found This company when looking on the Anderson Windows site for repairs and I'm so glad I did! We moved into a house and found out many windows didn't close right. Coby came out and repaired and tuned up all the Pella and Anderson windows in the house so they all open and close properly. He fixed the latches too. Latest and not so greatest so these installers finally installed all the hardware for the windows removing all the insulation. My customer had to pay someone else to come in a reseal each of their windows costing them thousands of dollars extra above what these guys managed to screw up. read more

We hired the screen guy to replace 5 screens, replace 3 door seals, install a retractable screen, fix a widow that would not open or close properly, and clean all our windows. The owner and 2 assistants arrived on time and completed all the work in 1 day. They were courteous and professional and exceeded expectations. In addition to the work listed above, they replaced the spring mechanism in another window which they said was close to failing and replaced 5 additional screens, all at no additional cost. The window cleaning service includes removal of all windows that open and close and cleaning and lubricating the around the window seal. Windows which were previously difficult to open, now slide open easily. I highly recommend the screen guy and I will use him for any future work needed on my windows, screens or doors. read more
