We're on our way to Miramar Beach in Destin and this place was right next to our hotel. We ate at the bar and watched the Ky Oaks race. The service was great and my pick two Shrimp basket was delicious! The shrimp were HUGE and lightly breaded. My husband ordered the Cajun Fried Rice with Shrimp and said it was delicious too. Took an hour for my drink to come, which was actually decent probably the best thing on the menu the waiter terrible I don't know if he's new or what but very unattended. my husband and I have now been to this location twice. Both times the food was very good and the service was great. I got 2 pounds of crawfish Cajun medium spice level and it was delicious perfectly seasoned, not watery and the crawfish themselves taste great. I'm a seafood girly, so I was excited to try this place since it's not too far from home. I ordered delivery and everything was processed quickly and flowed smoothly. I got the seafood combo bag with head off shrimp and black muscles. The order came with corn and potatoes but I was disappointed to see only one of each in the bag. The dish smelled good but the flavors weren't as noticeable as anticipated. The seasoning was definitely in the "juice" at the bottom of the bag, but it didn't taste like the actual ingredients had been seasoned. My husband and I both had a taste for seafood one night. I hopped on Yelp to see what was open that was close to the area we were in and Seafood King was one of the first choices. I've seen other Yelpers I know review this place so we decided to drop by. We were sat within a matter of minutes. Our waiter was a younger gentleman and he was friendly. He answered some questions we had about the menu and we ended up ordering soon after that. It didn't take a long time for the food to come. I ordered crab, which came with potatoes, and it was good. I chose the seasoning that was a combination of all the seasonings and I liked it. Next time, I'll get it hotter and I wouldn't mind if they used a little bit more of the seasoning. My main complaint is that the waiter sat a table of rowdy, ill-mannered teenagers right behind us. When the kids walked in, they were being loud and obnoxious so that should have foreshadowed how they'd be at their table. There was plenty of seating available so I wished our waiter would have sat them further from us. We kind of rushed through our dinner because the kids were really being annoying with their loud and lewd conversation. I'd probably go back, but during lunch so kids will be at school. Came on a Saturday night and It was packed With a wait however since It was only two of us we got seated right away. Our server brought out waters after about 7 minutes and it's took her another 10 to come back to our table. There are currently two specials- free app with check in or free hush puppies by sharing the facebook page. Even though neither promotion stayed this there are restrictions to what an appetizer is (fries, hush puppies, and calamari) and you cannot use both even if you are doing separate tickets. The calamari is the size of onion rings, literally. It could use some seasoning. I wonder if you can ask for It to be seasoning with some of their sauces or seasonings before fried? We both ordered half a pound of shrimp and half a pound of crabs and this came with a potato and corn. Now I'm a lover of corn and the corn soaked in the king sauce was amazing. I'll probably order a side of corn next time just because. The potato... they could've kept. It was a whole potato tossed in the back. No flavor stuck to It. I'm thinking if they cut the potato up and let It soaked up some flavor for a bit it'd be a lot better, but if you're not crazy about carbs like that I'd probably substitute It if possible. All in all the food was delicious and I left satisfied. Not sure whether to say the cluster was big or small since I had a similar size at a competitor in Atlanta. This was my first visit to The Seafood King in almost a year. I arrived on a Monday afternoon around 3:30. I ordered a 1/2 pound bag of sausage, 1/2 bag of shrimp (no head) and hush puppies. My only con: I went to the restroom to wash my hands but when I returned, the hostess had seated another party at my table - my server moved me to the next table without issue. This place was simply awesome. Definitely get the steamed bags with king special sauce which contains all the above flavors. Shrimp, clams and crab legs were all great and flavorful. I loved mashing the potatoes into the sauce. There were many pieces of garlic and plenty of spice and butter in the sauce so bring the antacids. But I never complain about flavor, it was just right for me. Cajun fries were good and hush puppies were not bad. The calamari were huge and not the small whole pieces but they tasted nice as well. Service was great too. Our server was the sweetest human ever. We were lucky to get her. I accidentally left my purse at the bar and the bartender brought it back to me personally. So overall they all were great. It was a rainy night and we had a rowdy infant but since this place is super low key no one made us feel unwelcomed. Come here and be patient as they seem to be working out some small kinks. We came with someone who knew how and what to order but I think some more guidelines would help new customers. I decided to give it a try for lunch. Fried Tilapia and Onion Rings from the lunch menu sounded like a winner. Tilapia was nice and crispy outside, moist and flaky inside. Onion Rings were appropriately crispy but lacked the flavor I was hoping for. I would definitely order the Tilapia again but maybe try French Fries next time. I had to ask for sweetener for my iced tea. That should be automatic or at least offered. I wish there was a more reasonable lunch combo for the steamer. But, as a southern,​ you will tell the difference between a crispy juicy somewhat fresh shrimp and a thawed smooshy one, right? As a former PNWestern I can tell the difference between a fresh Dungeness​ crab and many years old frozen small crab. Taste is mild-low, texture is way off. All that spice makes it feel somehow good. That was one of my favorite restaurants, and the only place in BHM to get Dim Sum and Mongolian hot pot. I miss that more than you can imagine. As the sign outside suggest, the Seafood King specializes in cajun style. Definitely in my wheelhouse. The menu offers the traditional fried seafood options. But, what makes this place special is the seafood-in-a-bag preparation. This technique was introduced by The Boiling Crab and Hot and Juicy Crawfish restaurant chains that originated in California and Las Vegas. It is gaining popularity across the U.S., and is worth checking out. I describe seafood-in-bag as a low country boil on steroids. It is a personal experience where you select a shellfish or combination (shrimp, crab, crawfish, clams, mussels). Next you choose seasoning from Cajun, Lemon Butter, Garlic Butter, or King Special (combination of all three). Then you choose spiciness from mild, medium, hot, and extract hot. Your order is cooked and served in a clear plastic bag. The bag keeps everything hot, but more importantly intensifies the spices. The meal is a hot mess, but so much fun. Disposable bibs and gloves are provided to help with the messiness. I ordered 1/2 pound of shrimp (no heads) and 1/2 pound of snow crab legs, King Special sauce, and medium spice level. Absolutely amazing. We left the Alabama game and decided to detour on our way home and ended up here for dinner. Everybody we encountered was friendly and helpful. Our server, Lala, absolutely made our trip. She was on top of everything, knowledgeable, and very helpful and considerate. She even thought ahead to help me while I had my sleeping son on my lap. The food was delicious. We both got boiled shrimp with the King Special seasoning and it was perfection. A lot of places cook their shrimp until they're tough or falling apart. Not here. Also, we LOVED that they provided you with everything to make it a clean experience. From the paper down on the tables, the gloves, bibs, wet naps. We got to enjoy our dinner without smelling like an old Bay fish market afterwards. Get the hush puppies. Yum. My only wish is that there was a steamed shrimp option on the kids menu instead of all fried options. And there might be if we asked (circle back to sleeping kid). But as written it's all fried. Visited for dinner while Staying at the Drury right next door. Went for the catfish and was not disappointed. Very well prepared. I enjoyed the fried shrimp as well. I enjoyed all the sauces , especially the boom boom sauce. Cajun fries were good! Waitress was very nice. Food arrived quickly. If they offered a spicier version of the catfish that would be great. After visiting one of our local favorites for a couple of drinks and some light bites, the family needed to go somewhere for some actual dinner. The Seafood King was on my radar. And since we were in Homewood already, we thought it might be good to check out. It wasn't quite what I expected with 90% of tables covered in plastic bags of boiled seafood. Since I do love some boiled seafood, I will have to come and check it out. But with two small kids in tow and a shortened time window, we opted to stick to the fried seafood. Originally we were going to use our free appetizer with a Yelp Check-in for the kids to get popcorn shrimp. But we didn't read the fine print and realized it wasn't included. So we got the calamari as the appetizer. I personally love the bodies and the rings when it comes to calamari. But this was just the rings. It was pretty good, but not the best I have had. The sauce that came with it was spectacular. My wife and I decided to go 50/50 on a shrimp and oyster basket. By this point we had a TON of food on the table. The portions were big. The fried seafood was really good with a very flavorful batter that was very fresh. The fries they had are not particularly my favorite style. But what you so often get with fried seafood. You can customize your steam bag with the type of seafood, level of spice and type of seasoning. Free app with check-in was a plus because the fried calamari was battered perfectly. The decor isn't anything to write home about but the color palette certainly makes you think you are in a restaurant on the gulf with the shades drawn. Tip/suggestion: 1) Pull out a plethora of napkins from the dispenser at your table before you start diving into your bag. A paper towel roll would be much more convenient. I'm pretty certain BF and I left the napkin dispenser as buttered up as our shrimp and crab legs. 2) When we received refills on drinks we were handed a whole new cup without the previous one being removed. This makes for a pretty cluttered table which personally stresses me when dining. Pitchers of water and tea, anyone? We will be back to try the fried baskets. read more

Follow up visit. Jason (the manager) recognized me from My photo on yelp when I entered and immediately told me that I would be given a 1/2 pound of snow crab legs for free. He had communicated this with me via a message here but didn't think he'd remember me like that. Kese wanted to try the food here and so we decided to come by after running errands. We sat and I ordered the same thing as last visit (1lb of crab legs w/ potatoes and corn w/ kings special medium). Kese ordered 1/2 pound headless shrimp and sausage w/ corn and potatoes. The crab legs were much better this visit but still not what I'm used to. The corn was also fresher than last visit and I had 1 yes 1 potato in my bag. We just decided instead of questioning anything to just order another side of potatoes so we would be full. I do appreciate the attention shown this visit by the staff to make u for the visit but I don't see this place topping my other seafood loves. After reading Paul and Linh's review of The Seafood King, I had to try it. Glad I did. As Paul mentioned, this is the old Black Pearl (going to miss their dim sum) off Lakeshore across from the Super Walmart. They just opened about 2 weeks ago according to the owner, Jason. He was a personable, soft spoken and friendly. He was pleased that we were very happy with the food. They are so "new" that their liquor license has not come through yet. After that he will be serving wine, beer and some liquor. The main layout of the interior is exactly the same as when it was Black Pearl with booths, tables and even a large private dining room. Their "bar" area of course is empty at the moment. Their tables are all covered with white "paper" so patrons can get "messy". Matthew and I walked in about 3:30 so the place was empty. We missed the lunch menu which ended at 3. We were told that the menus are identical except in price and resulting quantity when prepared. We claimed a booth where our server quickly met us. She was very attentive throughout our meal, but then again this probably isn't the best gauge best as I mentioned, there was only one other table of 4 and they were almost done. She brought our water and took our orders. Soon after she returned with a lined metal bucket for my shells. She also brought me a bib, wet wipes and sauces. Matthew's fried catfish basket was Yuge! Yes these were dinner portions, but he at about 5 large filets. They were battered and fried to perfection then placed over a bed of cajun fries which were also hot out of the fryer. Their homemade tartar sauce was spot on which made the catfish even better. She should have brought our fried calamari appetizer (took your advice Linh) before our meal, but it didn't matter. It was also a Yuge portion and oh so good (even if they didn't serve any tentacled portions). I tried the seafood in a bag in their special King sauce and requested medium. I probably could've gone up to hot because medium wasn't hot enough. I got their 1/2 pound of shrimp with the head. When it arrived, the large bag was tied closed and was bulging from the hot air inside! When I opened the bag, a big rush of warm air emerged followed by the most wonderful aroma of spices and boiled shrimp. As Paul mentioned this method of eating low country boiled seafood in a bag is gaining in popularity and I hope it continues. It started with preparing boiled crawfish like this in a bag and now you can serve any seafood. Their special King sauce was SO good... garlic, lemon pepper, cajun hot sauce... throw it all in there Baby! The sauce was so good I was dipping the calamari and the fries in it. The 10 or so shrimp were large and cooked just right. Hope this restaurant stays around longer than the Black Pearl. So far they have not disappointed and I look forward to returning and trying something else on their menu, perhaps the crab legs or one of their fried shrimp basket. read more
