I was visiting my brother end of September for a week who is a baptist pastor. A few of his members (3) took me to this restaurant. I like seafood and the meal was good along with the red velvet cake which was moist and the pink lemonade.

I've been to Birmingham a few times and never explored their local food options and decided to…read morechange that. Eugene's has really good reviews so I made this my first stop. And good thing I did! I looked at the menu and honestly wanted to order everything cause it all sounds good. I don't eat much so I went with the two piece chicken tenders kids meal. The lady who took my order said they have a regular chicken tenders meal but I said I wanted the kids meal cause I don't eat a lot. She then said "It's the same amount of food." which, ok cool, but I don't think that should be said cause they can lose out on money. Just my opinion. And FYI, I very often get kids meals cause I really don't eat a lot. Not trying to save money or anything. The meal came with two chicken tenders, sauce, fries and a drink. Fries were good. Nothing to complain about. Those tenders tho.....YUM!!! So much flavor. And the ranch I got with it....yes! Not sure when I'll be in Birmingham again but I will 100% go back and try other items!

A huge disappointment…read more I'd always imagined that fried chicken in the South was better than fried chicken in Omaha. Wrong! The fried chicken at Tracks and Surfside Club is way better than at Eugene's. The cole slaw is also better. My girlfriend is a native of Alabama and she was no fan either. She thought her chicken was tough. I got two different styles of beer and they were tasteless. I might as well ordered a Bud Light. And, of course, the music was way too loud.

So I saw this KFC the other day and pulled into the drive through because I was starving and wanted…read moreto grab a bite since my friend was cooking and it would be hours before dinner was ready. The building looks nice, and pretty new and it's near the interstate so I thought I would give it a shot. Here's what happened. I pulled into the drive thru and after the car ahead of me ordered I pulled up to the speaker and waited...and waited...and waited. I almost just drove away but I wanted to see how long it would take. So after a little more time a woman asked me what I wanted to order. She was not polite. I ordered a chicken sandwich, some potato wedges and a Pepsi. Pretty simple order. Nothing special. Then I waited, and waited and waited. Eventually after about 20 minutes from me initially pulling up, I was finally at the window and paid for my food. Then I was told to pull ahead so that they could bring the food out to me. I was completely baffled by this. I'd already waited forever. But I pulled up anyway and waited, and waited, and waited. Then the car behind me was told to pull up as well so now there were 2 of us waiting, and no one else could go without one of us just pulling out onto the highway, so we're blocking the next car from even being able to get to the window. I'm still waiting for my food to come out so I can't just leave and there's no way to circle back to the parking lot without driving around the block. So now the cars behind me start honking their horns because they have their food and are ready to leave, but me and the other car that was told to pull ahead still don't have ours so we can't just leave without our food. And so the horns keep honking and I'm thinking that I'm in the twilight zone. How can this be so terrible? It's comical. Now finally the lady who took my order comes out with my food while mumbling some obscenities about something and I can finally drive away with the food. I'm cracking up thinking of how all this just went down. So yeah, service...as bad as humanly possible. Now, onto the actual meal...the sandwich was hardly warm. The potato wedges were as though they had been cooked earlier and dropped back in the fryer. The Pepsi had a weak ratio of syrup to carbonated water. So they're cutting corners all around. News flash, fountain drinks already have an amazing profit margin. You don't have to squeeze every penny out of them by watering them down. It's also not that hard to cook fries to order. If you're making people wait 20 minutes, all the food should be hot and fresh. I can't imagine what a nightmare it would be to try and get from where this place is currently to being a respectable operation, and I don't envy anyone who takes on that task. Good luck to them though. I won't be back.

I had a great dinner here and can't wait to try more of their menu when I return. Foodies (like…read moremyself) will enjoy this place, from the vibes to the details in decor, food, and service. And I express my thanks to my servers and bartenders, who were not only attentive in service, but also offered recommendations which led me to a great dining experience. In short, I had the following: -dry-aged Shima Ahi crudo ( flew in from Japan) -a Mordella sandwich, and -peach fried pie. My wine pairing for my dishes was a California Albariño, which was a great surprise. I'm now searching for this winemaker to add bottles to my cellar. Every dish I tried was my favorite in its own way. Each meal was well-balanced and highlighted the flavors of every ingredient. The mortadella sandwiches featured a playful twist with Cobia fish, and the house-made focaccia bread, where the mortadella and Cobia spread are nestled, was truly what focaccia dreams are made of. Plus the garlic aioli for the fries is money !!! And the peach fried hand pie was the perfect end to a great meal. The aromatics of caramelized glaze comes across like it might be super sweet. But when you bit into the flaky buttermilk pastry crust it gave it a warm, humble feeling with the perfectly diced peaches pie filling adding the right touch of sweetness. And as a special treat, this hand pie is paired with a sour cream-lemon sorbet which I didn't know I needed in my life that was refreshing. The peach fried pie is a seasonal dessert, so enjoy it while you can. Overall, the ambiance and music were spot on making it a vibe that you definitely want to come for dinner or just enjoy cocktails which looked really yummy( but that's for another time ). The unique decor, with a mix of midcentury meets fisherman lighting and a crowned octopus handles tap beer, was a lovely detail when you get to sit back and enjoy. Even the plateware where food sits on is crafted by a local Bham female artisan at Civil Stoneware, is a nice touch ( which I was obsessed with ). I hope your experience is as great as mine. Happy dining y'all!

We were the only Black couple in the restaurant. Was that the reason? I can't say for certain. What I can say is that we watched every other table receive attentive service while we were repeatedly overlooked. We paid for our drinks and left because we refuse to support a restaurant where service is this poor.
