This place is ran by super nice people! They had species of all types in all sorts of sizes as well. I recommend going here for a bonsai tree, whether you're an avid bonsai enthusiast or a novice.

It was hard to find this place because there's no signs but just an open gate that you enter. The owners were very nice and they accept card and cash. I had to ask for recommendations for outdoor vs. indoor and she very kindly explained the differences to me. She also explained the different prices within the section I was in. I'd go again!

This is a great little spot! There are so many varieties of bonsais to choose from. They do kind of have odd hours though. They have a tons of different kinds and different sizes of bonsai. I ended up with a gingko bonsai tree. The people are super nice and knowledgeable. I ended up also buying some akadama soil for my aroids - I mix it in with with my other soil accoutrements. They had various other premade mixes that are a good price since you don't have to worry about mixing it yourself. Great place to visit if you are a plant lover.

This place was a bit hard to find since there are no signs but totally worth it once you find it. The owners are so nice, sweet, and knowledgeable. They even offered us little tangerines and provided us with tips what water to use on our plants. They have a large selection of bonsai starts, potted plants, and bonsais. They also have a lot of bonsai tools and supplies, including soil. We had a great time looking through everything there which all were reasonably priced. We would definitely come back. I believe they have limited hours.

If you are someone who is interested in the ornamental art form of Bonsai, then you have come to the right place. Conveniently located off of Blair Avenue & Belleau Wood Ln, just West of Freeport Blvd, Maruyama Bonsai Nursery is Sacramento's premium Bonsai nursery! For the Bonsai enthusiast, finding a store that has the gear you need to care for your Bonsai tree/plant can be difficult. Personally speaking, I was limited to purchasing supplies online through retailers, such as Amazon & Etsy, due to being unaware of any local Bonsai nurseries nearby. This was frustrating because when choosing Bonsai one must be able to inspect the Bonsai for things such as: growth, liveliness, size, and shape. These are things you are unable to do shopping online. Another drawback of online shopping is you run the risk of the Bonsai dying during delivery. Further setbacks of online shopping include the inability to determine the right equipment you need such as: pots, soil, wire, & cutting tools. These problems are no longer an issue as Maruyama Bonsai Nursery has everything I need from a variety of Bonsai tree/plants to Bonsai equipment. The nursery is small but still manages to have a good selection of Bonsai, which include: Juniper, Maple, Crape Myrtle, & Zelkova trees, to name a few. The Bonsai are reasonably priced. Prices range from $15 for young Bonsai and over $1,000 for mature Bonsai. These prices are reasonable, considering the amount of time and effort spent on the care of Bonsai - which can span many years. As for equipment, the nursery has durable wire, cutting tools, soils infused with fertilizer, & pots! You can freely ask questions about what equipment is needed for care, which allows you to properly determine what is and isn't useful. What I love most about this nursery is that no one is selling a product, the product sells itself. What I mean by that is, you can leisurely and peacefully walk through the aisles in search of the perfect Bonsai without anyone asking you to buy something. When it is time to purchase your Bonsai or Bonsai equipment, you can do so with cash, debit, or credit. To be more accommodating during this pandemic, and for the post-pandemic era, they also accept my favorite payment method, APPLE PAY! The only two issues that I have with this nursery are as follows: the unmarked location makes it easy to miss (there needs to be a sign up) and the lack of store hours. The nursery is only open from 8am until 12pm, Monday through Friday. I would appreciate more availability. My final verdict? This is a great Bonsai nursery that is close to home for Sacramentans & Elk Grovians. I recommend everyone who is interested in Bonsai to visit this store at least once to see the beauty of it for themselves.

Y'all! Bonsais are my new obsession and Murayama's Bonsai Nursery is my new favorite place! It's 5-10 minutes away from where I live! This beautiful Japanese Maple will be changing colors soon and I cannot wait to witness it. The nursery is small but makes up for what they have inside. They have beautiful bonsais that caught my eyes but sadly most were not for sale ! I saw a few I was ready to buy until I saw the tag it they weren't for sale. If you have time today, stop and buy some bonsais! The owners were very nice and they are around trimming, caring, and making more bonsais. I will definitely come back to purchase more for myself and gifts for friends! They are open Mon-Sat 8:30 am - Noon. Closed on Sundays. You can park on the street or inside. Support a minority-owned, local, and small business! Thanks

Hidden Gem. Very hidden. Truth...I had a hard time finding the location, but when I did, I was so pleased! Located Off the beaten track and semi-hidden in an industrial area off Freeport "around" 47th, it hides behind other businesses (on the side and behind FWC for example) but has been around for years. Maruyama was recommended to me when I was searching for a particular type of bonsai tree. Having never heard of it, but driving through the area many times, I was luckily able to find it on Yelp (always handy). After driving past it, oh...about three times, I found the gravel driveway that led to an area behind, and snaking around the side of two buildings. When you drive in, you will see a greenhouse to your left and in front, a small shed. This is a smaller family run nursery, but with a nice selection. There is a large indoor, and outdoor growing area filled with plants, shrubs, trees and pottery. The woman showed me around, and guided me to the potted plants and trees that were available to be taken home or replanted. The selection of smaller bonsai trees (5 yrs and younger) had so many shapes and variations, so I had a hard time picking just one. I finally selected a 4 yr old Japanese pine varietal, perfect in shape and ready to grow come spring. It was already in an adorable ceramic pot, with a large rock and moss. They have everything you need to start your bonsai project or hobby, from tiny seedlings to very old trees, and the pricing will reflect the type and age. There are also extra "accessories" available near the main potting shed. Everything in this nursery has obviously been carefully nurtured! My bonsai tree quest fulfilled, I happily thanked the kind and helpful owners. I did not see the entire layout, but the variety is stunning. They grow many other items, and I plan to visit again in the spring. I love this place! Pro Tip: Make sure to check they are open before you go, as they have odd hours.

Another hidden gem in Sacramento. Just remember to follow the guidance of the other yelpers and look for the red fence as navigation will lead you to somewhere else. Their hours are early in the morning so don't complain if you get there at 1p and they're closed. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Ask questions if you have any and they'll lead you in the right way. The nursery itself is small but very umm tranquil, with the exception of spring spider webs everywhere. Buy a small bonsai starter plant...don't be shy.

Lots of bonsai trees from all ages and sizes. Only con would be that they close so early 9-12pm and there is no sign outside.

I think these were jade plants

My boyfriend and I were looking for a small bonsai for our place to keep because we just recently lost our dog and slowly learning to care for something again. After not finding something at Home Depot and a few local plant shops, we were looking online and yelp and found there was this place that specialized in bonsais. We got there and it didn't really have a sign at entry but I had read on yelp a lot of people mentioning how to enter the business etc so wasn't hard for us to find. There are lots of options to choose from the workers/probably owners were helpful and helped us choose the right one for indoors. We chose a little jade plant which was kind of pricy for a little one. I did like how the worker/probably owner helped up wire the plant so that it can grow and shape as desired. Just another "con" to mention is their business hours are limited.

Almost missed the Azalea bloom at Maruyama's but caught the tail end! Must visit during spring!!

The best place around Sacramento for bonsai and bonsai soil supplies. Lots of pots, mostly production pots at a very good price. Great selection of prebonsai and accent plants. Beautiful azaleas lined up in many rows.

I want to be more water-wise in my gardening and also give back to my environment and start planting more native plants in my little piece of the earth--plants that are good for the birds, the pollinators and other creatures that may visit my yard. It hasn't been easy for me to identify nurseries in my area that grow native plants for sale. While traveling through Sacramento, I had a little extra time before returning home. I decided to search the area for a native plant nursery. Thankfully, Mother Natives showed up on my Yelp search. The nursery is small but mighty. It is nestled along an unassuming industrial street to the south east of Fresno City College--not too far of a detour from the freeway (it is in between highways 99 and 5), and has a small gravel parking lot adorned by beautiful murals and native garden patches. I found the nursery on a cold and quiet February morning, and enjoyed looking around, as they had everything I was looking for. If you're looking for native grasses, herbs, berries, trees, or shrubs, you'll find what your looking for. Service was excellent, and the staff member (possibly owner?) took time answering all my questions and helping me find the right plants for my zone and for what my needs were. Many native plants are slow-growing, and they were offered in different sizes and at reasonable prices. I left with more plants than I expected to bring home (all happily planted and growing well--several weeks later), but fewer plants than I would have liked. I will definitely make this a stop on any path that takes me through Sacramento when they are open. This is a great find--and I hope they are around for a long time!

Well you can imagine my happiness while at a Yelp event in Oak Park I saw next door there was an amazing looking nursery-I just knew I would have to make a return visit-well when I finally had the time,we headed to The Plant Foundry located at 3500 Broadway in Oak Park. This place is so cute-I haven't been to a ton of nurseries as I've generally picked up my cactus plants at random spots like a midtown market or a Trader Joe's or as gifts from people but I will say this was one of the cuter nurseries I've been to. When we arrived I walked around a bit to check out what they had to offer-what was in season and wondering where the cactus plants were. I liked this little sign they had in the middle of their nursery which advised everyone what was in season and what should be planted at this time of year-for a newbie green thumb person like myself-information like that is very helpful. After walking around a bit I decided on the cutest little cactus to add to my collection at home and it cost me $7.99,so cheap and my daughter decided to get a snow peas plant($7.49). In closing-if you ever find yourself in the Oak Park area and want to check out the cutest little nursery-I would 100% recommend The Plant Foundry for all your gardening needs-they have a really awesome business running out there-I like em and will be back.

IKEA was the first place we thought of for inspiration. We were surprised at the color scheme we looked at and liked. We were attracted to the blue cabinets or the olive green cabinets as they would look good with our dark floors. An ask for countertops, I don't want lament as it won't hold it's shape. I like the glass composite countertops as they look more sturdy. We were surprised that they sell stoves, ovens, and microwaves. We thought they would be dummy's like the TVs are. I question the quality and longevity of IKEAs kitchens. They mostly show the lament kitchen tops. It's much cheaper then the composite glass, but I doubt they will last as long. I found the sink style I like. We have water outflow issues with our sink and facet, so I found a set in sink that I liked, no lip that goes over the countertops. With the countertops questionable longevity, now I question the cupboards quality and longevity. You have to give them props for being reusable price, I just don't want it to wear out. In the end we are thinking that the cost will be around $15,000 including instulation. I'm thinking more like $20,000 as things always cost more than you expect them to. Our next stop will be local hardware stores to check out their offerings. We really like IKEA's set up and displays. They are so realistic with the walls and all, it makes you feel like you are walking into a real kitchen unlike the hardware stores where you are just looking at the counties tops and cupboards. One things we observed with IKEA is they have lots of stark white cabinets. They brighten the room, but stark white against dark brown floors woudld be doo much of a contrast. And reminds me of the black and white high contrast baby books they make for tummy time. A little too contrasty for me. So, here we are looking at an investment as ours is still functional so there really isn't a rush. My husband has a point, let's spread out our large purchases over the years and not do everything at once. This year will possibly be the kitchen. Next year will be painting the house. And there is a good possibility of doing the ac and heating units. Last month was the fridge. And a few years back it was the washer and a few months after that it was the dryer. So in the end everything is pretty much spread out. Oh, don't forget the dishwasher and around 5 years ago it was the dishwasher and hot tub. The good news we're not in debt.
