My best friend and I meet at this nursery, she's the one that showed me the place and it's an absolute joy! Her husband and her have a farm and me and mine occasionally join them since we live down the street from the nursery. The staff there are so so friendly and knowledgeable. We want to plant fruit trees and start a veggie garden, eventually. Between the staff and my best friends I feel very comfortable learning how to have a green thumb. As far as price goes, since this is my first time there and not really buying plants aside from the seasonal flower to indoor plants I'm not too familiar with it being good value. But I do believe they are as my best friends always come back and the constantly have fliers for sales. They also give notice to upcoming community events. Our last visit we realized that they also sell beef cuts, tallow, jams and honey. We decided to purchase the honey and we just tried it with tea and by itself, and we will be repurchasing! We're excited to get our beef there too. But amazing place, heavily believe in supporting local nurseries it's worth it. read more

This is my wife's new favorite nursery in the Sacramento area. She always comes away with one or more new plants or trees after each visit, and she often finds plants there that aren't offered at the larger nurseries in the region. She says that the staff are very nice and provide good knowledgeable customer service, and the plants are very healthy and well cared for. The prices are very reasonable. We live in far northeastern Sacramento County, but Big Oak is worth the trek down there. read more

Drove out to Big Oak Nursery. Nursery is open to the public seven days a week, so we checked it out for spring vegetables and herbs. Brought our dogs, which are welcome on the property. The people inside the little red barn were super helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable about plants. I bought some raw, unfiltered 100% Honey from them, which comes from local bee hives. They also sell local jams, and farm fresh eggs, no worrying about some severe bird flu outbreak. I love that I can go to their website and look at their Spring & Summer starter vegetable plants, which is how I like to do my gardening. read more

Staff are very friendly and it's a big property but apparently it is used by a lot of landscaping companies because when I went there in early March it was totally picked over. They didn't have any larger trees or bushes that I was looking for. Maybe I caught them between resupply, but I drove a long way it was a bit disappointed. read more

Came here last week for the first time on a mission looking for Midnight Gold petunias and these guys had them! I was so excited as these babies are hard to find. Even during this Covid 19, both gals were very helpful. I love how everything is spread out- much more relaxing and enjoyable compared to other plant places. I mentioned I will be looking for a tree in the near future to purchase and they were so helpful providing me handouts and information on types of trees to plant. Will def be returning. read more

I was looking for a Eureka Lemon tree way back in March. Little did I know do to covid (production, over buying) there was not a lemon tree to be found here, there or anywhere. Called everywhere, asked to be called when lemon trees were back in stock. Forgot about it. Today Evan called. Went to get 5 gallon Eureka Lemon $44. The only nursery to get back to me and it was fairly close by. Customer Service at it's finest. All the plants were well watered and happy. Not easy to do in this hot weather. read more

I bought a couple fruit trees from this place in 5 gallon pots I expected them to have some root growth in the pot soil. When I planted them the tree had no root growth just came right out of the pot like all they did was stick a bare root stock in the 5 gallon pot and marked the price up. read more

Tree shopping. What fun. Ok maybe not. We went to the one that rhymes with mean slacres and after walking the entire garden section, only one guy helped and that was with bbqs. Arriving here, we were approached immediately and not as though we better buy something but genuinely wanting to help. We bought a young apple tree and we noticed when we got home that it had leaf curl. I took the tree back in for either refund or exchange for a healthy tree and they told me there is no refunds. I was in need of a fruitless olive tree. I googled nurseries in my area and found this one. I gave them a call. The lady that answered was very informative and friendly. I didn't know this place was around. I usually go to green acres. The day of my purchase I stopped at green acres first to compare prices and the tree selection. Not only were the trees much better looking at Big Oak Nursery but I also saved about $45 shopping there. Green Acres had a 15 gallon for $155.00. Big Oak Nursery had it for &110.00. I am new to the area and was looking for a Nursery that had good selections, at reasonable prices. Big Oak was recommended by a neighbor and relatively close so we went. I wore a face mask, as was requested on a sign at the entry, however I noticed few people had on masks. I was hoping to find help and save myself a few steps since it was a hot day but I could not find anyone who appeared to be an employee I managed to find most of what I came for and on the way to the shed where you pay, I finally saw a man with a white hard hat on who was helping someone. Other than being able to identify Help; I was pleased and would definitely go back! The lady who rang us up was very nice and handled the line very well. She seemed genuinely welcoming and even knew of my former Nursery in Auburn (Eiseleys). The prices were better than most places. I am happy with my choice! read more

We love to do business with small local nurseries, but we purchased several maple trees from them and 1 happened to die. we had worries when we got it home the root ball was not established and we called and they said it would be fine, well it died and when we called back they told us none of there plants have warrantys and nothing they could do. this is just not right! anyone who deals with gardening know sometimes you just lose one. We won't be going back it's a shame. read more
