They need some serious adjustments to the loud instruments. Get rid of the mean, rude dude at front door who's taking the money! Customer service is key to success! If you want to splurge, they do offer the royalty throne seats which they will auction off at the start of the show. As royalty, you do have some control during the show which adds to the fun. The Emerald Theater is small and intimate and is designed as a library. When you enter, you receive a welcome shot and a membership card. Each seat has a QR code that you can scan to order food and drinks before and during the show. I've gone to two productions and both have been hilarious! The cast was actually different between the two shows and they both did a fantastic job! I saw "Romeo and Juliet" last summer. The show was raunchy and went off the rails pretty quickly. If you're easily offended, I would recommend skipping this show. It loosely followed the plot and was so wild (in the best way)! A few months later, we saw "A Christmas Carol" (3, 2, 1, Dickens!). We were chatting with one of the actors, Tatiana before the show and she offered me the opportunity to take a shot with her. What I didn't realize is that I was going to be doing a shot on stage with her at the start of the show to prove that the alcohol was real (it was straight rum). She took 4 shots of rum and held her own! It was actually quite incredible lol. The show was so funny and not quite as raunchy as Romeo and Juliet. The Drunk Shakespeare Society also performs "Drunk Dracula" in October. They have a pirate show that's going to debut this summer as well (which I'm sure will be hilarious). This is such a fun experience and I am looking forward to going back!

The bartender was friendly and quick with the mixes -- no long waits at the bar, which is always a plus when the place starts getting busy. The energy really picked up once the house music got going. I also appreciated that they had plenty of seating, including booths for groups who wanted to sit back, catch up, and still enjoy the music. The welcoming team was friendly from the moment we walked in, and the bartender was wonderful. Even though they were out of every wine I asked for (seven different selections!), she really tried her best to find something I'd enjoy. The only wines available were bottles at a much higher price point, which was disappointing. I'm still wondering what happened to their wine selection. Hubby did enjoy a nice cold beer served in a frosty glass, and that was perfect. Dinner was actually pretty good. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the lobster mac and cheese was tasty, although there wasn't much lobster to be found. Now for the theater itself... The seats are definitely showing their age and are getting a little rickety. Service was almost nonexistent. The one bright spot was a food runner who kindly pointed us to the QR code for the menu and even offered to bring us a printed menu. He was great. We ordered our movie snacks, but that's where things really went downhill. The popcorn was as stale as stale can be, the M&M's tasted old and a little funky, and somehow my club soda came with about four ice cubes and wasn't even very refreshing. The movie itself was good, and we still enjoyed having a much-needed date night together. Overall, though, it's sad to see this theater slipping because it used to be the place to go. I really hope they can turn things around. In the meantime, we'll be on the hunt for a new favorite theater. I'd love to hear everyone's recommendations!

I go to The Secret Group for two different reasons. The first is that it's close to where I work. Stopping by after work is always nice because it's a relaxed atmosphere and most of the time they have drink specials on their drafts. When it's not too hot, I will usually have a couple drinks on the roof and just relax. The second reason I go to Secret Group is for the comedy shows. They have comedy happening every night and every show is extremely affordable, some are even free. The shows are a lot of fun and more laid back than most comedy clubs I've been to. There are no drink minimums and the rooms aren't as stuffy as other comedy clubs I've been to. If you are a comedy fan in any way, you should check out The Secret Group. read more

What a really fun time in a part of the city that's blowing up! I went to see Joe Bates Returns a while back and had a great time! Since then I've seen a couple of their showcase shows such as Trash Flavored Trash and 12K degrees. 12K degrees is like a roast rap battle that was pretty crazy! Anyways it's nice because you can pregame at a local bar in the area like 8th wonder and get an uber pretty easily. Would definitely recommend for a great night!!!! read more

This place is way overpriced. I've been here a couple of times, and I wish it got more crowded. The patio has a really good view. The bar is really big inside which makes it feel kind of awkward, especially when it's empty. Parking is usually not too bad on weeknights. Tables scatterd on the first floor, and a balcony on the second with more tables and a bar. Often when I come, the place is packed, and people make a seat on the stairs. Which is actually pretty comfortable. Great seats throughout, and awesome acoustics. A hidden gem in the Rice Village area, and one of my favorite places to see a show.

The public karaoke on weekends can sometimes get a very long queue (like over an hour) if you happen to be there at the same time as a large group. They're fast with shots (even special ones) and keep things flowing. I usually come by when my group is already in the area and it's definitely a fun spot to people watch and listen to public karaoke on weekends.

As a guest, I didn't have to worry about paying for this place but I was curious how the whole things works and apparently reserving the room is $100 plus a $350 drink minimum. You can do the math to see how many people you need to reach the drink minimum. Our group did not have any problems with that. Apparently, this is the standard way these places work but thought I'd mention it because a couple of years ago, someone I had just met wanted to get some people together for another karaoke place and split the cost and she only had like 3 other people lined up and when finding out how much that was going to cost me, I realized I had made a terrible terrible mistake and bailed out so just something to keep in mind if you're only having a handful of friends. Speaking of the drink prices, I felt that single liquor drinks and beer were very reasonably priced but another friend who had the espresso martinis found out that at $17 or so a pop, they add up really quickly. Anyway, if you're into Karaoke, they do it right but then I think they're associated with Spotlight and they've been part of Houston Karaoke scene since like the 90's.
