I'm a sucker for a solid dive bar and that's exactly what you can expect from the Penny Pub. It's small and narrow inside, with the typical Irish pub style decor. They have a great back area with additional seating, a pool table and darts. They have a solid menu with the typical bar favorites, but their food is consistently good. I have yet to be disappointed by anything on their menu. Saving the best for last, the service. The bar manager, Mike is great. You can always find the bartender Sean there on a Friday night and he'll make you feel like a regularly by remembering what you drink. The entire bar staff is solid, and they're quick and efficient even when they may be a person down. If you're looking for something fancy, this is definitely not the place for you, but if you're looking for a small, intimate dive bar with good food, this is it. The only downside is since the bar is small, the bathroom situation is rough. There's only one stall in the women's room, so if it's busy, be prepared to wait. BEST SPOT IN TOWN!!! This is my go-to spot in Bay Shore! The food is absolutely amazing - and they are always reinventing classics to keep your tastebuds happy ! They make all their sauces/dressings in house - the Guinness Gravy and Beer Cheese are beyond delicious! My boyfriend, sister and I love this place. Its a tiny place with a great atmosphere. They recently changed their menu and their cocktails are not listed on it anymore. Sean was our bartender last night and he made me a drink that was out of this world! He's attentive and hell-bent on making sure everyone has a great time. The food is great also. The wonderful old school Tudor styling and the Flags out front were enough for me to stop in. My friend Mikey and I had been on a Bayshore pub crawl mission for the last few weekends. To commemorate my birthday month, October Fest and anything else we could think of. If I could put my two cents in ... Penny's is a GREAT place to start drinking in Bayshore. Pulling a stool up to the bar, we were immediately welcomed here like old friends returning home. Cold beers, darts and football were the order of the evening. In practice.. my friend Mike's first dart..was a double cork.. this is going to be tough. I love the Irish decor and the relaxing ..come as you are and be who you are Vibe at Penny's Pub. So interesting all the stuff on the walls and ceiling, you can hurt your neck looking at all the stuff..and don't forget to visit the wonderful backyard Courtyard for drinking and Jenga and Cornhole?.. Can't believe the kitchen is open till 2am . It's a small place like from the outside it looks small. I just got food to go. It was good but after eating the chicken wings , stomach kinda gutted. The grill cheese was ok, not the best. The mozzarella sticks were good. The tots were good to. Salads look like a salad for a champion. This bar was great! We got there around 6pm on a Saturday night and it wasn't crowded. Its a small bar but it had a nice atmosphere. The bartender(s) were nice and friendly. We had some appetizers with our drinks. We ordered Penny Pretzels and Buffalo Chicken Tots. The pretzels were 4 large pretzels cut in half served with dipping sauce on the side. We had cheese and spicy mustard. We enjoyed it! They were soft pretzels and warm, the sauces tasted amazing too. The buffalo chicken tots were delicious too. It has buffalo chicken tenders cut up on top of the tots with melted cheese, ranch and blue cheese drizzled on top. This tasted great too. We definitely had a good time. It did get a little loud at one point because a few more people came in and waited at the bar for their drinks. Luckily they went to the back room and played pool. It's been a loooooooong time. I can totally appreciate the person that said this place is a shit hole as a tip because that's how I remember it. The Half Penny has evolved into the Penny Pub. I waltzed down the block to my local watering hole with a buddy because this place has decent pricing and no rowdy large crowds the way some of the other bars on Main Street do. The bar is pretty small but has decent seating and to my surprise was packed with parties of +3 all around. The main TV above the bar is rolling in Lotto Numbers if you want to play a quick draw. Pretty cool since I've never seen a bar do that before and a decent amount of folks were in on it. They had three other TVs playing sporting events for the night. The environment wasn't focused on that though. It felt like each party was genuinely there to enjoy each others company and converse about the weeks troubles. Cool. People that talk to each other. Solid. Some kid at the bar mentioned to the bartender how he didn't understand why women were marching for rights when they already had more rights than they deserved and he just laughed it off showing no motion to approving or denying this comment. I felt like that was a pretty solid reaction to a jackass. Sometimes bartenders kind of just agree in the stupid behavior but this guy knew it wasn't going to do him any good with a bar full of women and he just slid it off smoothly by discussing beer. Even after being approached with the discussion more times than obviously anyone wanted to talk about he still managed to steer the guy away from it. I really appreciate and can honor that. Worth mentioning-- bartender is cool af. We had a great night! Never missed having a beer both bartenders were on top of drinks. I didn't get to order any food but the menu looks great and the kitchen is open the entire time the bar is. Perfection. Can't wait to come back! read more

I must say the first time I was invited here I was a little hesitant to go since there is another Half Penny Pub in Sayville that isn't quite my type of bar. Walking into this one though was much different. It's such a cute little Irish pub that gives you a little old school feel as soon as you walk in. Dimly lit with the beautiful bar you'll find a couple taps with the usual Budwiser but also a couple craft beers which they change out from time to time. There's also a tap for Guinness, because an Irish pub without Guinness is no Irish pub at all! The clientele here is a little bit of an older crowd and they don't serve food, but I've heard a kitchen is in the works which would make this place that much better. There is a popcorn machine for snacking though which hits the spot after a few pints. I've had such a blast the past couple times here so needless to say, I'll be back! read more

I had a very negative racist experience the other day at this bar. I witnessed a black man get screamed at for entering the bar to pick up food .. because he was wearing sweat pants. While a bunch of white people were also wearing sweat pants. The bouncer was screaming and reprimanding the black man. It seems like they are treating minorities poorly at this bar. Please be aware of how they treat people . This person was only coming in to pick up a food order they placed over the phone. I felt uncomfortable because the whole bar was watching this poor man get screamed at. Everyone was very confused. Happy hour isn't as good as it used to be since the new owners took over, but man are they serving some good food! The kitchen opened recently and my husband and I have already tried half of the menu. So far the Patty Melt burger was his favorite and I really enjoyed the mac & cheese bites. Their fries aren't seasoned very well, but everything else has been great. They had a nice facelift, but kept the basic vibe the same - It's a cozy Irish bar with a slight "hole in the wall" feel (Not complaining). The bar is narrow so it can get crowded quickly, but the outdoor area was also redone and can be a welcome escape from the crowd. Service is always friendly. Descended here this evening after a formal birthday dinner . One of my favorite places. Kitchen open till 3 am and bar until 4am . Woo hoo !!! Had a cocktail ( Zinfandel wine ) , my male friend had a Mule . Ate a standard grilled cheese and a egg special. Both tasty . Late night Sunday. Good to know they are actually open !!! Wondered in here in search of a beer and a burger. Got 1 of them. the better one- beer. the bartender- approx my age and but prob in a pre arraigned Suffolk County relationship (the type that starts in HS and ends at age 20 with a kid and free tickets from 102.3 to see RUSH at Nassau Coliseum) We spoke at length about Iphone aps as the guy at the corner with a mug of Blue Point shot eyes at me to remind me that she was his cure from loneliness, and that i best finish my Red Wagon ale and catch the ferry if I know whats good for me. Plus the only food option here is that shitty bar pizza with the same logo that says something like "Real NY Pizza" This is found throughout the country and probably distributed by the Beer folks and just made me sad to see it in a fairly good pizza geographical region. read more

Last night around 10:30pm, me and 4 friends arrived at Penny Pub on Main Street to watch the rest of the NFL game that was on. We all are of age, had identification, and were dressed the same. I "a weekly regular" was let in without issue, however the security guard in the front denied all 4 of the other people I was with for "not following the dress code". I asked him what was wrong and he said they weren't dressed appropriately. I proceeded to show the security guard that we all were wearing the same type of clothing and he must have been embarrassed because he got angry and started to raise his voice. I asked to speak to a manager and was directed to another male, who was visibly intoxicated. I asked the manager if I could speak with him and He denied because " I am too wasted to deal with business right now.". I told him that I wasn't interested in any business and that I just needed him to confirm that my friends were dressed appropriately, being as I was let in with the exact same clothes. The manager told me that I was fine and they were too if they were indeed wearing the same clothes as me. So I go back to get my friends at the door and the security guard actually never goes to speak to the manager just gets mad and says " my manager always does this sh*t to me, I'm not getting in trouble". This is when he told us we aren't getting in and he closed and locked the door in our faces. There were people outside that were telling him to let us in and you can check cameras if you have. The bartender is a very nice woman and she seen everything. I definitely respect rules and regulations of all establishments but this was completely unnecessary, unacceptable, and unprofessional. I never bring race into these situations but I can't help but feel like it played a part, especially since there were people inside that were dressed similar. I really enjoyed going to penny pub but this was heartbreaking, and embarrassing. read more
