Arrived at 9:10 on a Saturday night, June 10, 2023. Only the bar had people at the time, just a few at the tables. The restaurant wasn't busy at all. I sat down at the bar and was told I was in someone else's seat. I quickly moved down the bar to an empty spot with not to friendly people near me. Almost a snarl from women on each side as I sat down. After 5 minutes the bartender finally came over and put a menu in front of me. He said I could use the QR code (which everyone hates) to find the drink menu. So I reluctantly scanned the code and then the menu on my phone, which I now couldn't use to watch the Stanley Cup Finals because Sheffields has both TV's turned to a regular season Yankees/Red Sox game. Knowing what I was going to order, I waited for the bartender to come back. He never did. 15 minutes later, I just left. This is a great place to hang out with your buddy or your significant other or some random person you met on the street a few hours earlier by happenstance. The wings are very good (a little pricey but that's the new normal for wing world) and solid beer selection. Very nice bathroom to place a live bet on the sixers +7.5 and make a quick buck to pay for be the bill. Bartenders very friendly and attentive. Some ladies left their purse at the bar for like an hour it was wild idk where they went but they were smashed. Fun time. read more

We were looking for good beer with good vegetarian and non-vegetarian. The wait staff was friendly, food delicious, the environment was on point for a tavern/ pub. The food is really good comfort food. Not a huge menu, but I had a burger and my friend had a fish sandwich and we both really enjoyed our meals. Service was fast, and our server was very pleasant and helpful! Also I love the feel of this place; we sat in the dining room area at a cozy booth, but the bar sounded like it was fairly busy and the place has a very "corner pub" feel. I was here around 6. The soundtrack was classic rock. The decor is wood and fun artsy wallpaper, a very comfortable feel. I really enjoyed it and Ill be back! read more

Went to Sheffield on a Tuesday evening not expecting the Otter Lodge to be replaced. Upon entry the remodel is apparent and the new wooden bar top is very sharp. We sat at the center of the bar with three other bar guests sitting near the door. There was trivia night but the presenter struggled to speak the questions correctly, keep track of the number of questions and her voice was hardly audible. We ordered two local craft IPA from The Kind and one Prosecco. The bill was reasonable, $19. The chick pea appetizer we ordered was never delivered. The bartender never returned to take our credit card because he was talking to the three other bar guests. So the credit card was changed over to cash and we left after waiting a very long time to tab out. read more

I was glad to hear that this place was about to open with strong efforts into mitigating covid-19 risks, and that it was a restaurant/bar in my neighborhood. My partner and I have long wanted an attractive and comfortable place nearby to go to for a monthly date, with good food, drinks, and ambience, and we were not disappointed. We entered through the bar room, which was modestly busy on a Thursday at 7:00, and were seated in a booth divided from others by a short wall, giving sufficient safe privacy, but not enclosing us all in caves. The seats were comfortable and the soft wood panelling was warm. We scanned a bar code on the table with our phones' cameras, which brought up the Sheffields website on each of our devices, in which we could scan the detailed menus for dinner, draft beers, cocktails, etc. My partner, Molly, ordered a glass of prosecco (in a stylish stemless glass), and I a cherry/raspberry/pomegranate sour ale. (Next visit, I will have the Sazerac cocktail, which I have not had since visiting New Orleans.) For dinner, my partner had a Shepherd's pie - a generous dish of beef, lamb, and vegetables under broiled mashed potatoes. I had fish and chips, which was a big crackly-brown fried slab of battered cod, with hefty potato wedges, and a dish of minted peas, plus malted vinegar, and savory not-too-sweet tartar sauce. Though I'm not usually a fan of fried bar foods, this was a cut above in quality and distinctive style. The menu offers several vegan and vegetarian options as well as other nontypical meat dinners. Our server, Niary, was friendly, pleasant, efficient, and attentive just the right amount. We both went away sated, delighted, and with some leftovers for lunch. We'll be back! read more

The bf and I went to check out the Sheffield on a Saturday night. The space is set up well for safe indoor dining with every booth partitioned with high panels. Even the bar can be partitioned with removable panels so they can accommodate various sized parties. The bar area is also decent sized and we noted the very nice bar counter. The hostess who greeted us was super nice and so was our waitress. The service was also efficient and our food was brought out in a timely manner. We went around 6pm and there wasn't a ton of people but as dinner went on people were trickling in and we left seeing a pretty full parking lot. We started with the vegetable pakoras and the Moroccan carrot soup. The pakoras were really yummy. The vegetables were soft on the inside but the batter outside was crisp. I really liked the flavor of the chickpeas that came through as well! What elevated the dish were the dips. It came with 1 green sauce (I forgot what it was), and 2 chutneys, a onion and a tomato one. I did not like the green sauce as it tasted like dipping the pakoras in wheat grass, just not my choice of flavor for a dipping sauce. I loooovved the onion chutney, it was sweet and kind of tart too. The tomato was my second favorite. It wasn't super tangy but had a depth of savory-ness that I appreciated. The Moroccan carrot soup was a disappointment to me. I didn't taste any carrot but instead all I can taste was a very bland and bitter liquid. Maybe I just didn't appreciate the moroccan spices but it was definitely not a pleasant after taste. We both tried and tried again throughout dinner and it just didn't work. I think more creaminess and less spices would help improve the dish. For entree my boyfriend of course had to get the sheep's pie (he always gets this at pubs) and I opted for the fish fry. The sheep's pie didn't quite hit the spot. The dish again was very bland. Thank goodness for the gravy as I think that added much needed moisture to the meat. My boyfriend's input is that the bites where there was lamb is much better (the meat is a mixture of beef and lamb). Ending on a super high note though, the fish fry was SO YUMMMIES! This was definitely the star of dinner. The fish fry is huge!! To batter is thin and crispy and was not overly oily and did not overwhelm the fish. The fish was so lovely. It was a thick piece of fish and it was soooo juicy and tender. Dipped with the tartar sauce, it was sooo good! The fries were also really good, but you know, it's fries. One thing though, because the fish is really juicy, once you start eating the juices will leak out and make the breading soggy, that's not a fault of the restaurant, it just happens. Overall, we enjoyed 2/4 dishes but by no means is that keeping us away from a revisit as they are still so new and probably working out the kinks. I am still thinking of that fish fry! read more

I really appreciate how many vegetarian options they have! The vegetarian shepherds pie was pretty good, and the loaded fries were great. The tofu nuggets weren't anything to write home about, in my opinion. They were deep fried and came with a sweet dipping sauce and mayo(?). The inside is a great and fun atmosphere. They have big dividers set up between every table for safety, and tables are well spaced. We just got takeout and it was speedy and easy! The crowler we got (an IPA whose name I forgot) was delicious and awesome too. read more

Only a four star because I have not eaten at Sheffs. I highly recommend have a cocktail there. The bartenders are excellent and take special care in making drinks. They are also knowledgeable of their liquor tastes and make excellent suggestions. A great place for drinks w friends. read more

We went to the grand opening of this new pub and were blown away by the friendly service, great selection of craft beer and outstanding food. There is a selection of 20 rotating beers on draft plus wine and a full bar. They have done a great job remodeling the old Otter Lodge into an English style pub. We tried the Crab & Corn Croquettes, Pastrami Slam-wich, Kimchi Muffaletta and the Load of Rubbish Plate. For dessert we had the Apricot Crumble. All the food came out perfectly and it was simply delicious. We can't wait to go back and try some of their other menu options. We were also impressed with the social distancing barriers at the bar and between the tables. The ones on the bar move to accommodate different size groups. The woodwork on the tables and the bar are a piece of art. The walls in the separate dinning room are wallpapered with a motif based on the famous William Morris' Strawberry Thief design. The owner Joe McBane is originally from the town of Sheffield England and named the bar after his hometown. read more

Mixed bag. They don't take takeout orders over the phone, so I used the app as directed. I showed up at the appointed time, but still had to wait 20 minutes for food. Not a huge deal I guess, but an apology would have gone a long way. Nope, very curt service. Fish fry was very good, crispy crust and tender fish, just what you want and a cut above the usual version for sure. The fries though, their "wedges," were raw in the middle, which I find really revolting. If we were eating in I'd have sent them back, but I didn't want to drive back, especially since dinner was late in the first place. I'd order this again, but ask for the fries to be well done. Or, wait, can't do that because you have to order with the app. Requests like this are why I always prefer to order food over the phone, but oh well. The spicy chicken was very crispy and juicy, fried really well. The flavor? Kinda spicy, kinda bland. And the roll they serve it on, cheddar jalapeno, very dense and greasy, and not very flavorful. Not nearly enough pickles on this thing, if you order it ask for extra. The yellow mayo condiment was tasty. They order beer to go, and they have some good ones! But you can't order the 20oz size on their app. Yet another reason I wish I could order over the phone. I don't need a whole jug of beer in my fridge, just maybe enough to split with my beautiful wife over dinner. I live in the neighborhood, so I'll try it again. Maybe if I find the right thing to order this place will become a regular for the family. And I would love to pick up a whole jug of beer some time when I'm ready to take a bigger dose, and they do have some pretty interesting choices. Remarkable improvement from the neighborhood bar that previously occupied this spot. Beautiful carpentry work on the bar top. The fish and chips is delicious and I love it so much I refuse to share it with my husband. They also have really, I mean really yummy mashed potatoes with onion gravy. Bathrooms are clean, handicap accessible, and unisex. Which to anyone that was ever there before when it was The Otter Lodge knows that means they are new bathrooms that are upstairs. They're located between the bar side and the restaurant side since The Sheffield expanded and took over the space next to the former Otter as well. Brighton is lucky to have this pub. So my wife and I had some free time today and decided to head over to The Sheffield. Color me impressed. To start with our server Adam was a delight and helped this establishment garner its five stars. I got the Toad in the hole. I had never had Yorkshire pudding and have no idea why I waited so long. It paired so well with the over easy eggs, sausage, and hollandaise sauce. I would rate this in the top 3 of brunch meals I have ever had. My wife got the full English Breakfast which consisted of sausage, back bacon, roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, baked beans, a homemade HP sauce, two eggs and toast. It was phenomenal. Nothing more to say. We also decided to get a third meal since we are a bit crazy and got the corned beef hash. It was homemade and very good. This is not a cheap eats kind of place. The food is fresh, homemade, and very tasty. This is the first of many visits to The Sheffield. I find it ironic that an English style style gastropub has an address of 1776. read more

First visit here. ( I was here years ago when it was the Otter Lodge . ) I drive by all it all the time but never thought to go here . I'm glad I had diner here Friday night . The place is casual. We walked in around 6pm with no reservations ( not sure if they take them or not ) . The place was busy but we were able to get a booth in a quiet room next to the bar right away . Service was fast and attentive . They have a good selection of craft beers and signature cocktails . The menu is a mix of traditional burgers but also included several vegan, gluten free and vegetable entrees. I had a curry dish with rice which was excellent and my partner had a burger and fries . This seems like a nice neighborhood bar / restaurant that will be a go to favorite for me from now on ! read more

Great local pub with plenty of craft beer choices and an elevated food menu. Definitely has that "Cheers" feel. The hubs and i went Friday night and enjoyed everything. Our server (Adam) was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Restaurant has partitions throughout to make your experience socially distant and comfortable. They even have custom partitions that attach to the bar that are very clever and practical. I wish i had more pictures to share but we were enjoying ourselves so much, I didn't think to take more. I'll support any restaurant after the pandemic. First time here. Lovely interior. Good drinks, but oh, sweet suffering Jesus the french fries were half the size of a matchstick and overdone and lukewarm. To make matters worse I asked for gravy. They serve mashed potatoes and gravy, so I'll have french fries and gravy. Both potatoes. I expected the fries to be covered in gravy. Instead they came in tiny condiment dish next to the ketchup. The gravy was lukewarm, yellow not brown, and not good at all. To top it off I was charged a dollar for it. A dollar is nothing, but I wasn't told it was extra, and it wasn't worth a dollar. It was disappointing but not entirely surprising because the theme is obviously English pub food. The food was generally bland and the atmosphere, claustrophobic. They have a wall running the length of the building creating two narrow rooms. We sat in the dining area and had no visual contact with any other patrons. I am sure some would like that but I found it needlessly confining. We started with soup. My wife's ginger/carrot soup was tasty but my beer soup wasn't. It had the strong flavor of flour. I had a Sheffield burger which had one small piece of back bacon and some tasteless cheese. My wife had a shepherds pie which was better than the burger. First time here on Wednesday, December 29th. My first impression came from the excellent bartender who got the job done with perfect timing and had her territory under control in the coolest way. I had bangers & mash for dinner. That was delicious. The beer selection is eclectic and interesting. Background music was just the right volume level, as opposed to the utterly stupid noise levels I often experience in other places. First time going to this space since it was The Otter Lodge. Sheffield certainly put in some effort to appear nicer than the Otter...but is it? Maybe in terms of the visual aesthetic. Everything else is status quo if not under whelming. The server was personable and efficient - but the food, while decent, left something to be desired. I ordered the Summer Sarner (an eggplant sandwich) - it was fine if not rather small for the $15 price tag. My side was the Pub Salad (their version of standard house greens) and it was so close to being spoiled it was inedible. The lettuce was limp and soft and the cherry tomatoes were absolute mush with no firmness. I'm surprised they were comfortable serving this salad, as it was on the verge of being spoiled if not already there. I didn't continue past the first bite. Friends got chicken "nuggies" and fries - both were simple and good. They were wise to avoid the greens. Pricing was reasonable enough, and the outdoor seating was fun. I would like to give The Sheffield a 3 for its food, but because it opened recently, I'm going to go with 4 since there's no 3.5. We were excited to try this place since my boyfriend is from England and there aren't many English style pubs in Rochester. We ordered for take out and it went smoothly. It was ready when we went to pick it up and our order was correct. The BBQ wings were very good. They were very crispy with a delicious sauce. The crab cakes were only okay. I got the burger, which was good except that I wasn't expecting a mustard taste to be in the bbq sauce. I'm not a big fan of mustard so that ruined it a bit for me. However, I appreciate how they're supporting local farms and using seven bridges farm patties. The fish fry was pretty good. The potato wedges were a bit undercooked for my liking. They were still pretty firm on the inside. We will probably try it again, but won't be rushing back. read more

The place is great! The Sheffield has set up a space which makes the patrons safe and welcome during these trying times. The staff is excellent! Very attentive and considerate to their customers while at the same time adhering to health regulations which help make everyone safe! The drink selection is fantastic with a variety of beverages whether you're a beer, wine or cocktail person. The food is very tasty! I personally love their wings as well as Rubbish plate and fish fry. With the cold weather coming if you're looking for someplace where you can feel safe to have a good time for indoor drinking and dining , the Sheffield is the place to be! read more
