I asked for a sample of beer that I didnt get for a while and then when I ordered a beer, she walked by my twice, remembering each time that I was waiting for a beer before finally bringing it. Over the years, we tried this place several times. Unfortunatey, it was a mixture of things that never quite worked. They had an interesting beer menu, and that's the main thing they did well. However it was almost always overpriced. The location is better for a watering hole than a high-end draft house, and this is a time when people are looking to cut costs. The food was always a bit off-kilter, though tasty. There was an appetizer with giant ice cream scoops of ricotta, and that seemed to be a bit strange. The pizza was good but not memorable. It tried to be a music venue but it wasn't a good location for that. Either they should've targeted closer to the city center or out in a wealthy suburb. This afternoon was our first time here for a work outing and just finding the entrance was odd in itself. We were looking around for staff and someone finally made eye contact with us and told us that we could just sit anywhere. Tone was our server and was very pleasant, yet very hard to hear and lacked experience. The first the items I chose (all from the sandwich section) had either ingredients that were not available or the cooks did not know how to make the sauces. (The menu was new, we were told). We ordered a chicken salad (definitely lacking chicken, a grilled Buffalo Chicken Wrap (which was made crispy, by mistake) and a chicken BBQ bacon sandwich with French Fries (under seasoned). When my sandwich was delivered to me, both the bun and entire container of ketchup were dropped, but thankfully replaced. I can't speak to atmosphere so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Paid $30 for essentially a personal pan pizza. Missing some toppings and the ones they got right don't follow the order instructions that they provided the guidelines for in the first place (on the whole pizza vs half of it. also "half" seems to be a loose concept here). Sausage pellets less than desirable. This place is listed as "Beer Market" on the Slice app. So I get a call from the delivery person that there is no "Beer Market" but there's Beerhead Bar at the same address. So that feels sketchy. The bf and I finally checked out the Beer Market after years of living so close. We always thought it would be packed with rowdy college kids all the time but to our surprise there was every type of person here. There was also a live duo playing live music. We got the giant pretzel, the meatball hoagie and a gluten free goodfella pizza. The giant pretzel is huge!! It came with 3 types of sauces which were ok, there wasn't much depth to them. The pretzel itself was quite a novelty and it tasted ok. There was a lack of any flavor. The texture was pretty good though and it reheats well in the oven. The meatball hoagie was pretty good. Had a good tomato flavor and the meatballs have a nice herby taste. I only took a bite so I won't comment much. The gluten free goodfella pizza was pretty solid. The crust was crispy and thin and I don't think I'd be able to tell it was gluten free. There was a good amount of cheese and the meats tasted pretty ok. Service was awful. After an hour of the waitress telling us the kitchen was backed up, even though the place was not even half full, she realized that she hadn't submited our order. We watched her enter the order in the computer and then turn and lie to us that she just checked on our food and it would be another 15 minutes. We flagged down the other waitress and explained what happened, and she responded that the kitchen was not backed up and our waitress should not be working there. So... we decided to try something new tonight and wanted to sit outside and have good beer ... The Beer Market fit the bill for that. They're able to open the front glass doors to bring the inside out. The beer choices were great although it has another review noted flights can be rather steep. We opted for a pint. The food selection is OK but rather pricey... $14 for a pizza, nine dollars for a Caesar salad with no protein on it. We tried the Diavolo and the Popeye pizzas... The Diavolo is very spicy and the Popeye was very tasty. Both were very greasy however. We also tried a Caesar salad which I would not recommend ordering. Served in a cute bowl but that was about all I would give it credit for. The croutons were soft and the dressing very thick. They do offer a discount with hospital ID one day a week and also run happy hour specials. I would recommend giving it a try for happy hour between 4 PM and 6 PM to see if you want to go back and pay full price. Service was super friendly but slightly inattentive. read more

I've always had a really enjoyable time when visiting the Beer Market in the past! I tended to be out this way more during the summers in College when I was back living in Chili, but I remember each visit with fondness. I found it SUPER difficult to make a decision on beer here because there is such a huge amount of options. If you're someone who enjoys ciders, sours, or more fruit forward beers, this is the spot for you. If you're someone who enjoys IPAs and hops, this is the spot for you! You simply can't beat the pretzel the size of your face. Great bar food and comes with dipping sauces for a more communal feel. I will say this spot can be tricky when it gets really busy or it is beautiful outside. They have both wait staff and bartenders so you can take your pick of seating options. I am looking forward to coming back here someday very soon, and hopefully enjoying a beer out on the patio! read more

If you're near UofR or College Town, this is a GREAT place for after work drinks, Happy Hour apps, and/or dinner. HUGE area for seating, attentive service, MASSIVE beer selections of both draught and cans/bottles, other drinks for those who prefer non-beer, really good menu with something for everyone, and reasonable prices. I recently walked there and met my hubs after work. We sat outside near the fire pits and it was GREAT to be able to feel safer during a higher-COVID-cases-surge *AND* be able to go out and have a life while being outside. One of the few College Town establishments that has withstood the test of time, The Beer Market remains a popular restaurant / bar. I think the combination of a large beer selection, frequent live music, solid food and central location (near hospital and UofR) make it a good option to grab a beer and some bar food in a casual setting. The large beer selection is the biggest draw for me. It seems to change frequently, so it's nice to be able to try different things. Another plus is that it's walking distance from the hospital (where I work), so it's a convenient option for happy hour (as compared to the Distillery) which is further away. Food-wise everything I've had has been decent. Not amazing, but definitely passable and complimentary with beer. The beer pretzel is HUGE and good for sharing. I also liked their "Californian" Pizza which was vegetarian with some balsamic vinaigrette. Their nachos were a bit disappointing. Service is mostly good, I've found and pricing to be fair. Wife and I ordered the "grilled" wings and a bbq chicken pizza. Food took extra long to come out which even the bar tender mentioned to us a few times. The wings were sitting in the window ready to go out well before the pizza, so I started getting worried that they'd be cold. We got the wings and sure enough they were cold both inside and outside. I told the bar tender and she took them back to the kitchen and a few minutes later they came back out. Same exact wings but this time hot. They were microwaved. MICROWAVED. These are like breaded wings so microwaving them just makes them soggy. They were also still bloody inside. They didn't even try to cover any of this up by maybe re-saucing them. I took one bite and just had the bartender take them away. The pizza was perfectly fine, but lacked chicken on top for being a "BBQ Chicken" pizza. Taste was fine tho. I ordered a flight, which they charge you for based on the sample you order which I thought was interesting. But they were all great! For food, I ordered their brisket grilled cheese and this sandwich was just awesome! The meat was great and they add jalapeños to the sandwich, that added a really nice flavor. Our waiter was great and made some great recommendations. It was overall just a good place with a nice atmosphere. And holy cow, the pretzel looked amazing! Given all of the reviews referencing poor service we held off stopping here until U of R was out of session and the staff had time to shake things out. We were just here for drinks about 8pm on a Saturday night, no food, so our experience may not be typical - but the service was very good. Our server was super attentive - no issues at all. The place was only about half full when we were there... The beer selection is truly overwhelming and I do wonder how fresh some of those bottled beers are... I ordered a White Aphro draft from Empire Brewery in Syracuse and it was excellent especially good on a summer evening. Plenty of others I was tempted to try. I would visit again though when the weather is cold the space seems pretty small but right now with the additional patio seating it is spacious. Hopefully the service continues to improve. read more

Not worth the money. We went there just to have a beer. My wife and I ordered a snifter and flight but both beer came in the same type of glass. Not being familiar with the terms, we Googled the terms and the flight should have been larger. When we asked the waiter, he said they ran out of the flight glass but it's the same amount of beer. My wife ordered a the more expensive type of beer in a snifter for $12 and I ordered another type of beer in a flight for $8. Both came in a small glass that was not even a pint. Not having been out in a while because of covid, I did not want to write this review until I visited another brewery so I can compare. So we visited a brewery in CT where we live, and for $8 which was the average price, we did get a pint. We also ordered wings and that was all we got....bleu cheese, celery and carrots were extra. Went to the Beer Market trivia night with a few of my friends on this past Tuesday night. Overall the experience was really great and I would definitely come back again. I also found out that there is a discount for employees/students of UR so make sure to take advantage of that by showing your server your badge if you work at the hospital. The food was very good, the big pretzel was a personal favorite however it was a little expensive. The drink/beer list is wonderful and the servers/bar staff were super helpful with helping to pick out something that I liked. The trivia at this location is definitely one of the better that I have gone to however the one negative that I do have to report is that because there are so many people it can be hard to hear the MC at times. Live music on Saturday nights from 8-11:30 and both times the bands were great! The beer and pizza are so delicious and not like any other pizza around Rochester- thick crust and a lot of cheese (my favorite)! Our server Don is soooo good at his job!
