Amazing apartment complex!! I've lived here for the past 4 years and am only leaving due to a change in jobs. Charol and Edward do an amazing job of making their residents feel at home. Organizing events, decorating the lobby for holidays, and making sure things are running smoothly. I've always been easily able to get ahold of them either in-person or through email and they've always been super helpful and accommodating. The Shelby apartments is also wonderfully located. There are bike paths on 2nd, 4th, and Bell street, making it easy to get around. There's a lot of bus routes that pass through 3rd avenue just a block away making it super convenient to get around Seattle without a car. Additionally, Pike place market, the Space needle/Seattle center, Westlake center (light rail station which provides more access to Seattle/Bellevue and the airport) are all under a 10 minute walk away. The apartments themselves are nicely sized and have a good layout. Additionally the Shelby has an intercom system to control who can access the building. During the summer, parades go through 4th Avenue, right in front of the Shelby Apartments which provides an excellent viewing balcony for residents. Last year I watched the pride parade and Seahawks Super Bowl parade from there. Finally, noise wasn't too much of a concern. Living in a city, you'll have to expect some noise but the walls are thick enough that I never heard my next door neighbors and with the windows closed, I would rarely hear sounds from the street/alley. If you're looking for an apartment in Seattle, I would highly recommend looking at the Shelby apartments and considering it for your next home! read more

Location is nice. Good food in the area and in the center of the touristy things to do in Seattle. The stay was decent for the most part minus the slow elevators and the complex being too warm at many times even during the winter when its cold outside. Additionally, it can be a loud and noisy area quite frequently due to the fire station a couple blocks away as well as frequent screaming outside the windows. The safety of the neighborhood has been declining, and super noisy construction across the street inspired us to find a new home. Would have done 4 stars but our experience was dampered by our move out. We had a professional cleaner clean up the place once we moved out and the place looked great but we were still charged a cleaning fee that ate up the rest of our security deposit. When inquiring about the fee, the management office was vague and could not point to specific issues or cleaning tasks that needed to be done. Also, our lease renewal offer was more expensive than the advertised price of the specific unit which was weird. read more

As I found myself in an unlikely situation with my hotel I booked upon my arrival to Seattle I passed by the Shelby building and instantly was drawn to the only leasing sign that had green balloons. This was the first sign I've seen in this city that had such an inviting energy. I met both Rochelle and her associate Jade who undoubtedly removed any hesitations I had on if I would be housed or not. To have these two beautiful and kind women show me such diligent dedication to their job and to getting me settled in one of the many STUNNING unit's that are still available was a god send. The entire process was more streamlined and accommodating (offered a refreshing array of artisan keurig coffee I've never seen) that I felt truly at home here at the Shelby and I hadn't even received my keys. As a Philadelphia native I was nervous at how I would be received with seattle being known for having the infamous "seattle freeze" but thanks to Rochelle and Jade I know for certain this city has outstanding individuals that are making a difference and literally saving lives. read more

Unbearably hot. As part of my transition to Seattle I found The Shelby through recommendations and some reviews. In the past the reviews were good. We stayed for a little over six weeks. One week after moving in "limiters" were put on the windows so they couldn't be opened more than 4 inches. We received a notice that this was for insurance reasons. This made the room hot and stuff at all times of the day. Even with fans air doesn't really circulate and you cannot get a good breeze or fresh air coming into the apartments. This was a warm summer by Seattle standards which didn't help the situation. It was uncomfortable and made sleeping difficult even when it was cool outside. Some of the advertising says they have air conditioning. I was told that none of their units have A/C. On the plus side, the room was very nice and well furnished. It's a great Belltown location and there are decks outside that you can grill and enjoy the street traffic. There are washer/dryers in the units and the building is well maintained, though common areas aren't always open. In cooler months this might be a great place but when it's warm, it's not very comfortable. read more

Summary - leave the place at the earliest. Go find another community in the neighborhood which is worth your time. Rented over 4-5 apartments in belltown, I know this for sure. Tons of problems at the place. On moving in, I wasnt offered a move-in tour/inspection. On opening the house (unit 1), it was full of dust, there were parts broken. Immediately went down and they mentioned they can transfer me to another unit. New unit had appliances not working, lights went out every 2-3 weeks. Placed around ~8 work orders and most took a week. There was some painting in the building where they didnt reattach the sound proofing. Over the peak summer, their AC wasnt working. The whole building would become a heat house. After all these experiences, we moved out after 3 months of our lease. On moving out, the new manager was extremely apologetic and wanted to keep us (offering rent cuts). Still decided to move out and she (Chelsea) offered us no cleaning charges since we were paying early lease termination fee of 2 months. 2 months later, I find out that they billed me utilities for both unit 1 and unit 2. They charged a 400$ cleaning fee and fixing fees for items I had put in work orders in month 1. Their management is extremely nice and will be very nice while making sure you have the worst experience ever. read more

Having lived at The Shelby Apartments for about 1 year now, I definitely would highly recommend this apartment. The current apartment managers, Chelsea and Taylor, were extremely helpful and friendly with the move-in process and every (occasional) issue which occurred throughout my year of living here. The Shelby Apartments are located right in downtown Seattle, so it's just a short walk away from the Amazon campus / other companies in downtown, grocery stores, and restaurants. Units in the Shelby Apartments come with in-unit laundry, a stove, microwave, dishwasher, oven, etc. Also, The Shelby Apartments has a gym (which is closed during the covid situation, but is normally open to all residents) that has nice equipment including treadmills, weights, etc. Overall, I'd highly recommend the Shelby Apartments because of the amazing staff, location, and really convenient amenities. read more

I recently moved in. So far my experience has been overwhelmingly positive. The building is modern and the staff is super friendly, communicative, and helpful. On site parking was a little challenging to get started but Taylor helped get it straightened out with the third party who manages the garage. The maintenance person, Thomas has been really attentive, speedy and knowledgeable about fixes for our unit. They put a good amount of effort into hosting community events, even during COVID where everything is online. I look forward to the building amenities reopening after the pandemic has passed. The elevator is at times painfully slow. The move in concessions have been pretty amazing as well. I've been trying to recruit all of my old neighbors to make the switch to the Shelby. I will miss The Shelby. The staff was always helpful, the rent well priced, and the location was awesome. Being on 4th means you get front row seats to all the parades that go down the street year round. It also means you're conveniently close to Yellow Leaf Cupcakes downstairs along with Belltown / Downtown restaurants / shops while avoiding most of the noise during weekend nights. Also, Mike & Amanda like to throw lots of shindigs for the residents to build community and are very responsive to random questions. They provided temporary extra keys for me when friends stopped by and were extremely accommodating when I have to end my lease to move out. There's no truer sign of service than how mgmt treats you on the way out. Though there have been recent claims that Belltown is getting shadier and that Cap HIll is the new place to be, I'd have to strongly disagree. Parking, noise, and unreasonably high rates for older buildings all kill Cap Hill for me...but that's a whole 'nother discussion... read more

tl;dr Bed bugs, bad neighborhood, building fire alarm problems, numerous maintenance issues, poor management. Don't live here. I lived at the Shelby for over 3 years from Jan 2017 to June 2020. I had a bad experience in this building for almost my entire stay, and was unfortunately always stuck in a lease period that ended at inconvenient times for me to move elsewhere. The trend I have noticed with the Shelby is to offload building maintenance costs onto tenants. This building has seemingly gone downhill over the years (evidence in the fact that the last positive Yelp review was posted several years ago). I discovered evidence of bed bugs shortly after moving in, which I was forced to pay to resolve. The management office told me I have 48hrs after move in to provide proof of bed bugs from a licensed exterminator to the Shelby in order to avoid being stuck with the bill to address their problem. The area of Belltown that the Shelby is located in has gone downhill in the short amount of time I lived there. The homelessness problem in this area of the city is out of control and impacts every person that lives in this building. From numerous break ins and theft to illegal drug activity occurring outside on a daily basis, you will witness it all while living here. The building fire alarm system had problems my entire time here. I lost count of the number of times the alarms went off, at all hours of the day, requiring the entire building to be evacuated, only to have the fire department arrive to reset the alarm 30-45 mins later. This cycle would repeat every 5-6 weeks. I was forced to live with no operating kitchen for 4 weeks when a leaking pipe in the building was discovered that required my entire kitchen to be removed in order to access the building's leaking pipe. Typical "wear and tear" maintenance issues often would take weeks to be resolved due to poor management. My full security deposit was taken when I finally moved out for what was described as "paint touch ups and carpet cleaning". In my opinion the only good thing about the Shelby is it's close proximity to the offices in the Denny Triangle and Downtown areas. If having a short walk to work is worth dealing with these various issues, then the Shelby may be an option for you. read more

Disclaimer: I don't actually live here, so I can't tell you how good/bad the experience of renting from them will be. Why are you even writing this review then, you ask? Simple-- when my boyfriend and I went to check out the place, we were so impressed by the leasing staff that I just had to write them a review and give them props. Amanda came out to greet us instead of just waving us into her office, then proceeded to show us around the apartments after a short discussion. Side-note for the apartments: they're lovely, they really are. The building's really pretty; I do like the courtyard and the fact that they throw monthly parties for their residents. Anyway, the most notable part for us was that after the showing, Amanda proceeded to suggest OTHER BUILDINGS around the area and talk to us about them, giving us a sense of where we should look next. This wasn't a case of showing off sister properties either-- the list was really as inclusive as it could've been. She said a lot of the apartments in the area do that for each other, but in our Belltown apt-hunting experience, Amanda was the only one to advertise non-affiliated places to us. Definitely above and beyond what we were expecting from a leasing office. In short, of all the buildings we visited, The Shelby stood out to us because of its great office staff and I just wanted to make sure they get our appreciation for that. :) read more

Have been living year for almost 16 months now and I'm satisfied. I chose this place for its location and vicinity to my office but over the time I've come to like this place more for its amazing staff and management. They are super friendly, understanding and very accommodating. Shout out Mike and Chelsea - you guys are the best! And you make living at Shelby a better experience. The apartment itself is suitable for my and my wife needs. We got a 1 bed room fully carpeted apartment. There were some unpleasant surprises when we first moved in but the management acted promptly on those and was able to fix those quickly for us. I don't remember if we ever had any major problems. Again, the management has been super friendly in fixing any and every little maintenance requests in a timely manner. I would very much recommend this place, for this reason alone! read more

Great location and friendly staff are two things that make the Shelby a very nice place to live. First for the good things: The apartment management team are very attentive to residents' needs and are always willing to try to accomodate you. If you are expecting an important delivery but can't get home before the office closes, they will be happy to put it in your apartment. (This proves crucial when anniversary gifts are in play.) While Belltown has gotten a little more sketchy in the last year or so, the Shelby is located far enough away from the bars and clubs of Belltown that the noise and crowds are not nearly as much of a problem (and the random street fights that come with them). Because it's so close to the oh-so-sketch intersection of 3rd and Bell, you will occasionally see some questionable people doing questionable things. However, the dozens of great restaurants, cafes, and shops more than make up for this. The apartments themselves are nice. The features inside the apartment are nicer than average -- in unit washer/dryer, bay windows in many units, new appliances, etc. The building also has garage parking, a small fitness center, an excellent common room (nice furniture, full kitchen, etc.). Then for the not-so-good things: The biggest thing here is price. If you accept that you are living in the heart of downtown, then the pricetag for a large one bedroom shouldn't scare you. If not, then you may want to look elsewhere. While you aren't right next to the bars and clubs, you are right next door to an apartment building that is used as Seattle Art Institute dorm. Sometimes they can be loud in the alley behind and the sidewalks around the Shelby. There have also been an unusually high number of fires in their dumpsters. Overall: A great place to live if you want to be where all the action is and you don't mind some of the downsides that come with that. read more

In terms of affordable and decent accommodation: The Shelby has you covered. You get a kitchen, decent closet space, cable TV, fastish Internet, an iron, washing machine & dryer, utensils, coffee machine, vacuum cleaner and anything you can think of. There was one mishap where I arrived on a Sunday to check in only to discover that the reception area was empty, so I couldn't get into the building. Calling the numbers provided (even the maintenance numbers) resulted in nobody answering, luckily someone else going into the building was kind enough to let me trail them in, the room was unlocked fortunately, but they knew I was coming in and they were not there (even though the signage displays they're open every day and the times). Speaking with the couple that let me in, I discovered they have staff shortage problems after recently changing things and that they're no longer open on a Sunday any more... I find it kind of rude they did not inform me of this change or the fact nobody seems to be in the reception area on a Sunday, do not be surprised if you go to check in and can not get into the building, you will need to follow someone else. But there is one niggling downside that makes The Shelby a hard place to be in that overshadows anything else. When you see people mention no air conditioning and how hot the rooms are: you better believe they are telling you the truth. The rooms are incredibly hot, and I am from Australia where I am used to the heat to an extent. The windows are limited in how far you can open them (supposedly for insurance reasons) which means it can be winter outside and a summer that could even rival that of far north Queensland in Australia on the inside of the room. My room came with a large square fan, but it did nothing. I wake up in the middle of the night sweating, literally sweat rolling down my legs and body (wearing basically no clothing at all). Seattle is about to go into winter and I am sweating in my apartment room, what gives? I don't know what causes the heat, I think the building has some kind of heating turned on, or, the materials the building uses means it is incredibly insulated (perhaps both). With exception of how hot the room is, the apartments are nice and decent, great value for money. Bring a few fans with you if you are staying here, especially if you stay here in Summer (then God help you). read more

I found The Shelby online and was interested in its charm from the beginning. When I first began looking for apartments in the Seattle area, I was overwhelmed with the plethora of rentals available. Originally from Georgia, I flew up to Seattle in October to find the perfect apartment. I had very little knowledge of the area, and the knowledge I did have came from a "Moving to Seattle" book, which was not the most helpful. I woke up that morning to find I would be insanely early for my appointment with The Shelby and decided to look at other apartments to kill time. I viewed quite a few buildings with great views, nice gyms, etc, but one thing lacked with the others: sour service. I figured, if these people are not happy working here, how am I going to be happy living here? I then found a place with it all. The Shelby was a complete contrast to the others. When I walked inside, I met Amanda. With her warm and cheerful character, I felt comfortable with the building from the beginning. She and Mike (who was equally as great) were a wonderful help to my 2,500 mile move. The apartment was gorgeous and extremely well equipped after moving in. I believe a great characteristic in this apartment building was its home-like warmth. The building and its apartments are extremely cozy. In addition, all the residents are very friendly as well as welcoming. All major appliances are included, (w/d too!) and I found the apartment to have been above and beyond clean on move in. I also have beautiful views of the city and Puget Sound. The Shelby is located near many attractions. Delicious coffee and restaurants are inches away, as well as a movie theatre, the Market, and a few grocery stores. For sweet tooths, the The Yellow Leaf Cupcake Co is literally next door. The Dahlia Bakery is just a couple blocks down, and Top Pot Doughnuts is very close as well. And for those without a car, such as myself, I have found the proximity to bus stops perfect. Inside the building is a gym and club room. Parking is also available. read more

I live in The Shelby for 7 months now and I love it! The location is great and the community is terrific. The building has a small gym with OK machines, underground parking, two small 'roof' gardens and a common room for decent parties (organized from the management every couple of months). The old management was awesome, especially Amanda. She helped me a lot when I moved over from Europe. A service that exceeded my expectations multiple times. I don't see any big changes through the new management. The new manager Tiffany is very kind and responsive. I had recently a problem with my window and she managed to fix it immediately. Conclusion: Great place to live - just the price sucks! read more

We stayed at one of the apartments here through airbnb and had an overall pleasant stay. The apartments are about half an hour (without traffic) from the airport and are walking distance to most of the tourist attractions in downtown Seattle. It's an ideal location since we didn't have to rent a car and just took Uber to get to and from the airport and to get to farther places when it was raining hard. The apartment we stayed in was a 1 bedroom, which had it's own washing machine, full kitchen, and large bathroom. It also has a small balcony leading off from the living room which was good for getting some fresh air. We did have some trouble figuring out the key situation and locking/unlocking the sticky door, but other than that, the apartment and its prime location was perfect for a long weekend getaway. read more

I've been living at The Shelby since 2007. The best part of life at the Shelby is our management. Mike, Amanda and Les are all super friendly and very responsive. The second best thing is the size of the closets.I live in a studio and I could basically live in my walk in closet. The interior of my unit is pretty nice and I love my bay windows. I love the location. Downtown, the waterfront and lower queen anne are all walkable. I took away one star only because Belltown seems to have gotten sketchier since I first moved in. I don't always feel very safe on the streets after dark. On the plus side, Amanda posted no trespassing signs and has the SPD on speed dial. read more

please do yourself a favor and don't move here. it's an adequate place to live, and then it all changes when you move out. for the move out bill you get to deal with greystar property aka a bunch of sleazy scammers in button ups trying to charge you for things they KNOW that arent legal, even after you call them out. a few of us had in total been living there over 5 years and gave them little trouble. upon moving out they charged us for several things that were never mentioned at the move out walk through and when we questioned them they refused to provide any photographic proof. there was no discussion from ben the agent we were dealing with, it was basically a mugger with a gun telling you: pay this or else(put you on a rental bureau list and send your bill to collections). this has to be part of their standard business practice, so confidently billing people for excessive and illegal amounts, hoping you'll pay for it and not take them to small claims court. read more

A wonderful place to live in the heart of Belltown neighborhood, Seattle. I like the spacious floor plans and the access to common area and its little gym. The staff is one of the major +'s to this place. They bend over backwards to help in any way that they can. They have tenant parties where everyone can get together and mingle. They are quick to respond to any issues that you have. The building is very dog and cat friendly. It does lose one star because the floors seem to be a little thin, if the person above you had heavy heels, you will know it. I have lived in 2 units at the Shelby (I am working on my second year here) and love it. You are smack dab in the middle of the space needle and the market. read more

Hey there! Just wanted to give a quick update with more information you might find useful. I have been at the Shelby for about a year now and I did renew my lease. Overall, I still think it is a great place to live if you can afford it. People are correct about the apartments being unbearably hot in the summer though. To be honest, I did invest in an AC unit because I just could NOT stand how hot it was. So please be advised. ALSO- underground parking is an added fee of about 130 dollars a month. I also want to give a shoutout to Mike (the maintenance guy) he is AWESOME! :) He is great with service requests and goes above and beyond what is asked. read more

Where do I begin? The Shelby Apartments are beautiful, situated in an excellent location of Seattle, and most importantly the staff (Mike, Amanda, and Les) are outstanding. You are only blocks from the Space Needle to the north and the Pike's Place Market to the south. There are plenty of coffee shops, excellent restaurants, bakeries (including a cupcake shop), and bars for everyone to enjoy. If you are looking for a downtown/ city atmosphere, The Shelby Apartments are the place. PS... Remember, this is a downtown residential building. For those that love everything downtown, but don't want to necessarily live directly in downtown, but still have all the downtown experience - this is the place to be. Sandwich between the Needle and Pike Place, The Shelby is in an awesome location, right in the heart of Belltown and on the parade route, as well. However, even with all that going on, I still have peace and quiet from my unit. I do not hear my neighbors, at all, or street noise. Speaking about my unit, my unit, itself, has everything I need - full size kitchen, full size washer/dryer, and there is always plenty of parking in the garage (which is not exclusive to the building, so you will have the downtown workers parking in there, but they all start to leave after 5:00 PM). However, I think the best part of living in The Shelby is the staff. I do not know what to request that they will say "No' to, but I try not to push my luck, cause I feel like they do so much, as it is. I hope the staff - mostly Chelsea - never leaves The Shelby! (or, in the very least, until after I leave, heh). read more

A great apartment building in a great location in downtown Seattle! My roommate and I were able to do a short-term lease from late 2015 - early 2016 to accommodate a work rotation at a much more affordable option than we were finding. The neighbors were all very friendly, gym/common area facilities were always clean and available, and any issues responded to in a timely fashion. Our 2 bed/2 bath corner apartment had floor to ceiling windows giving us a great view of the city. The appliances were all new and energy friendly, and the building itself was in great shape. Amelia and Nick in the front office were very helpful and friendly for anything from a visitor parking pass to lease options! It was great to have them on site for any and all questions. If work takes me back to Seattle, I'd definitely consider living here again! read more

The Shelby was a great place to live for a couple of years, while it was managed locally and Amanda, the best property manager ever, was in charge. Unfortunately they recently hired a sleazy national property company, Riverstone Residential, which fired all the staff we'd grown to love and brought in a bunch of corporate drones. Check out Riverstone Residential with the Better Business Bureau -- they have a D-minus rating. Or look at their reviews here on yelp -- they have nothing but one-star reviews. The most frequent complaints are that they will find a way to steal your security deposit when you leave, and assorted other dishonesty. Absolutely horrifying. I'm out of here at the end of my lease. Based on their past behavior I have little doubt they'll find a way to steal my security deposit, but at this point I don't really care. Update: yes, I moved out, and yes, they stole part of my security deposit, despite extensive measures on my part to leave it as I found it. Straight-up crooks. read more

Got bedbugs within 2 weeks of moving in even though I have never had bedbugs in my life. When I consulted the staff, they said it was my fault and made me pay for the treatment. I paid for the treatment and a couple months later, the bedbugs came back! I asked them whether anyone else in the building had recently had bedbugs and they said yes, but that it was unrelated to what I had. Then I had to pay for bedbugs treatment again! By the end of the year I moved out and have since been in an apartment complex for almost 2 years where I have never had bedbugs. I have horrible memories of bedbugs at this apartment complex and feel the management should not force residents pay for a problem they should be addressing on their own! read more

At the risk of sounding like a paid spokesperson, I've decided to write a true review of The Shelby. I am a person who looks, then looks, then looks again before leaping. This is especially true of where I live - not a decision you want to screw up. So, I started researching apartments in Belltown long before we actually needed to move. We walked into one leasing office where no one was around and when I timidly called out, the response was a gruff, "WHAT DO YOU WANT?!" Not to live there, that's for SURE! I searched endlessly on Craigslist, asked everyone I knew, read every link on every website, pored over photos and walked through many apartments only to be disappointed again and again. Here's what I found: tiny apartments with no closets to speak of, old apartments that felt like hovels, nice apartments that cost twice the price I thought was reasonable or I could choose a different area of town to live in and commute. I figured, well, this is urban living. Deep sigh. And then there was The Shelby (I warned you I would sound like a paid spokesperson, right?!). My boyfriend and I walked in and just said "Yes". We didn't have to do more than look at each other. From the start, I loved Mike on the phone when setting up the appointment. You know how they say you can hear someone's smile over the phone? I could feel his sincerity. No joke. He had a great apartment and he knew it. We liked the building instantly - it felt light and airy, but warm and cozy somehow. The hallways were spacious and well lit, unlike the caverns we had seen in previous buildings. The rooms in the apartments are all thoughtfully laid out so there is no wasted space. There were windows everywhere all with great views. W/D in the apartments was a crucial part of our decision, so they made it easy. Bathroom and kitchen were nice without any over-the-top ridiculous fixtures that so many buildings are putting in to try to pretend they're worth twice as much as they should be. One of the main things that sets this building apart, though, is the closets. My boyfriend and I both own clothes enough to supply a small country, but we have no problem fitting everything in here. The walkability factor is extremely high here (my boyfriend and I both work within a few blocks) so we almost never drive, but it's really nice to have a secure garage to keep our car safe. Also, it's the only building I know of that will give you free guest passes for when your friends or family want to come visit you - and believe me, with this location, they WILL want to visit you! The monthly resident parties are actually cool, too. There are people there you would seriously want to spend time with and you can tell Mike and Amanda truly appreciate time to hang out with the residents. It doesn't feel like they're on the clock and forced to stay late. We've been here for about 6 months, but have no intention of moving any time soon - no wonder so many residents are long-timers! We've found our home. read more

I have been living here for about 7 months now and it is absolutely great. The place is very, very clean and modern and the location of it is right in the middle of everything you need. In terms of groceries, I always get my produce from pike place market, and right beside it is city target for things that I cant get at the market like cereal. Theres always Whole foods and Kress IGA as well. Being near downtown means you're in the middle of it all essentially. Even parades! Or New years fireworks! The closets are large, the windows are huge, and if you're facing the right way you will have a view. I used to have a great mountain view but then recently construction has built a building that has blocked most of it. But I still love my huge windows and the little bit of mountain that's leftover. Having a gym, a community room, bbq area, and a little courtyardish hangout on the second floor are nice amenities to have and they're usually always empty. Having a washer/dryer inunit is such a great perk to have that I remember was one of the harder things to find for some reason when I was apartment shopping. I would say the management though is what really separates The Shelby from the others. I love Amanda!! Somehow she always remembers my name and always smiles or says hi when ppl are coming in and out of the building. She is always clear, always helpful and timely, and there are resident parties always being thrown.They are usually around the holidays but even for things like football games, which is always nice. The one time I needed management to fix something, I just sent a fix request on the resident portal online and it was done in a very timely manner. They will sign for your packages and you also get a notice if you have a package waiting for you. I dont have pets or a car, but the building seems to be pretty dog friendly and I know that you can get guest parking as well. Probably the only negative I can think of is that my upstairs neighbors walk really loudly, or I guess you could say the ceiling/floor seem to be thin. Its not a big deal and I personally think theyve just got really heavy heels. Whereas my next door neighbors, I never hear a thing and its always super quiet, even though I know there are two little kids next door. read more

We lived at the Shelby for almost two years and it was always just ok. The building itself is fine, the little gym is fine, the location is fine. But in general our experience with staff and little issues (we'd come by the office- no one there, wait forever. Also they took away open privileges to the TV/Club/Grill. Makes an "amenity" feel pretty restricted. If the popular tenants complained about something, a memo was immediately sent out with a new policy that sided in their favor but not everyone elses) that added up made us VERY glad to be rid of the Shelby when we moved out. It took TWO MONTHS for us to get our deposit back and that was only after I followed up consistently with the office to see what was going on. When we finally did get our deposit back it had dwindled down to almost nothing due to backdated fees that we had NO idea we even owed. Our experience with getting our deposit back and having it be almost nothing are just one picture of how our experience at the Shelby was only mediocre. I feel like The Shelby is one of the best apartment buildings in the city and here's why: The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful Great location and amenities (gym is 24hrs but common room is not) Thick walls between units (good 'fences' make great neighbors) Great big light giving windows (oh happiness in a sky of grey) Washer and Dryers are in-unit Yes, the prices are high but if you want to live in a *nice* place in the city, you should be willing to pay for that. Also, as one reviewer mentioned it, the floors are a teensie bit thin but really not an issue... Also, free guest parking -- hurrah !! read more

It is such a wonderful escape from the city, but has all of the things wonderful about Seattle right outside your door within easy walking distance! I moved in to the Shelby since August 2014. So far it's been great! Our neighbors are extremely quiet. I was wondering if anyone live next door to me for a long time. Management is helpful and super friendly! Yes, there's a bus stop near by but it's not a big issue for me. Over all it's a great apartment if you're looking for a place in downtown area. read more

I am really really kidding about the number of stars. In fact I give it the opposite rating but this is intended to defeat the algorithm. The current management has been stable and reliable, really not, only there for two weeks. All the high reviews are well earned by a manager that had been there for years but has been rudely discharged. Look up the new management company but if use their name it will be removed by the automated review system. Better Business Bureau rating equal to the 6th letter of the alphabet. I could tell you more but I would have to kill you. Not joking, we are moving out at the near term expiration of our lease. Other people in the building are heartbroken too. read more
