The view of the stage from closer up in the GA area, some what stage right.

We've been to a number of concerts at Showbox and generally enjoy the venue. Some pointers that will improve your experience: - They inspect all bags outside the front door. If you have a big bag, laptop, or other larger items, they force you to check them. Not outrageous, just be prepared for it. - Come early. If you're coming with general admission tickets, finding a spot to sit is next to impossible. You'll likely be standing (and maybe dancing!). That said, if you're reasonably early, you might find a spot where you can lean against railings or a wall. Of course, if you dig being right up at the stage, you need to come very early for that. - You can also get a VIP entry pass, which will allow you to jump the line for entry. - I don't think I've ever been to a concert at the Showbox where the audio was not really loud, sometimes ear-splitting. Bring ear plugs just in case. - We once had Emerald Club tickets. Now that's the real deal! They'll meet you at the door and walk you to your reserved table. The tables in the Emerald Club all have a good view of the stage, and you will be waited on for your drinks. (If you can hear the waiter, of course.) - Parking downtown can be expensive, and street parking can be a bit of a scramble. I usually catch the light rail to the Showbox. It's only a few blocks from the Westlake Station. Overall, a nice venue that we come back to time and again.

Boxes full of unsold merch. Have to pay VIP or fast pass just to get merch at this venue, and then they don't even know how to sell it all.

First off, we got to the venue an hour early so that we could get merch for the first world tour of the K-pop group called StayC. Unbeknownst to us, there was a fast pass. We got out tickets on presale and we did not see a presale for fast pass. So even though there is already a VIP, there is a huge number of people jumping ahead of you in line because of the extra sale of fast pass, which is basically a classist money grub move. So we got there an hour early, VIP line got in early, and then all the fast pass people jumped in front of our spot. It took an additional 30 minutes to get inside. The line did not move for twenty minutes straight after the doors opened. So to summarize, we got there at 5:30, the doors opened at 6:30 and we weren't in until 7 pm. The show started at 8:00, so we waited another hour on top of the hour and a half to get in, for merch inside. Then they cut us off because the show started. Okay, fine. We got in line for merch again 30 minutes before the show ended. A total of three hours waited! We were not the only ones! A huge crowd of people squished into the merch area and it was borderline unsafe due to heat and human compression. At the end of the show they sold like 5 hoodies and then told us to kick rocks. Why they even sold the few hoodies that they did? I don't know. There was a large amount of boxes full of merch that was visibly unsold. Never in my history of show going have I ever not been able to get my merch. The showbox is classist, only allowing VIP and fast pass ticket holders to get merch, and then not even attempting to sell all the items they had. Buying merch, especially from a K-pop group such as StayC is not easy online, due to them being international, all the way from Korea. The showbox only sold items to those who were giving them more money for VIP or fast pass. Totally classist, and mismanaged, treating regular patrons like garbage. Will avoid this venue at all costs if possible. Beware of this place being an absolute mess.

Great venue for a concert. Made it intimate and fun. Would have loved a few more benches or stools but who needs them when you're dancing. Layout by bathroom made it hard to not get lined up while balancing on the stairs. Female bartender managed a dual pay station bar with insane speed!!

    ADA seating view.

All of this was on display Friday night. Joining them were Cornelius Mims (bass) and Michael White (drums). Though the set was besieged by an on and off hum coming from the equipment (we think) and another issue with a computer, they did not disappoint us. Instead of their more recent material (which is where the computer comes in) the group took us down memory lane, it worked! We arrived early for dinner before the first show and were seated on the mezzanine level. Our server Nikki was very welcoming and took our order. We ordered drinks--an Old Fashioned and a Sauvignon Blanc--along with appetizers. Our appetizer selections included calamari served with lemon aioli and spicy red chili oil, and the Aegean Meze Platter. The platter featured grilled eggplant, baby carrots, cucumbers, dolmades, Mama Lil's red peppers, marinated artichoke hearts, assorted olives, tomatoes, and house-made hummus and olive tapenade. We thoroughly enjoyed the appetizers. For dinner, we decided to order full meals, which we don't always do here. One entrée was the Linguini Del Mar, featuring sea scallops, Gulf prawns, Alaskan Coho salmon, and clams sautéed in a garlic, white wine, and lemon butter sauce, served over linguini and topped with Parmigiano Grana. The seafood was fresh, and the pasta was perfectly cooked. My only unreadiness was the dish didn't include mussels, which from my perspective, would have really made it fantastic. The second dish was the White Gulf Prawn and Avocado Caesar salad. It included prawns, hard-boiled egg, cherry tomatoes, romaine, and Tuscan kale tossed in Caesar dressing, topped with croutons and grated Parmigiano Grana. I sampled it and found it to be very good. We also added a couple orders of the Jazz Alley Cornbread that included butter and honey. The corn bread was delicious folks!! We decided to end our dinner with dessert. I tried Key lime pie, and my wife ordered a sundae. Okay, full disclosure I love Key lime pie!

They said the band just started and they couldn't do that. I apologized and said I wasn't trying to haggle at all. The staff was very kind to us, even tho we were waffling. I've come to expect the cold front. The bartender who served me at the comedy show just before the Tavern refused to make any human contact. He just handled my cash and handed me my drink, like a robot. I still have warm blood pumping through my veins. Tractor Tavern was so warm and friendly. They gave us time to talk about it outside. We stepped outside. The music was percolating through the glass. I am a classic rock junkie. I took us back in. At the bar, I asked for a double. The bartender moved to the side to reveal a sign that said "no doubles". I laughed and apologized. He was kind and made a friendly joke. I seriously don't expect anyone to be nice to me anymore. I expect a chilly silence. This was so welcoming and warm. I wasn't treated like a jerk even tho some of my questions could warrant that response. They allowed me to be new and be human. The venue is stunning -- full of majestic arches, ornate architectural details, elegant balconies, and a grand old-theater atmosphere that immediately makes the evening feel special. Even before the performance starts, you already feel like you're having a real night out rather than just attending a show. The massive multi-tiered seating area is very impressive, yet the acoustics still felt excellent and immersive throughout the performance. One thing we especially enjoyed was spending time outside beforehand looking through the illuminated displays and posters for upcoming productions. It really builds anticipation and adds to the magical atmosphere of the evening. Whether you are seeing Phantom of the Opera or another performance, the Paramount feels like one of those classic theaters that turns an event into a memorable experience.

The touring production of The Phantom of the Opera at Paramount Theatre was absolutely fantastic…read more The cast was incredible, and the production itself deserved a much better audience environment than what the theater allowed. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst theater etiquette experiences I've ever had. During the first act, a man seated behind us repeatedly sang along during the performance. When I politely asked him to stop, the person next to him sarcastically pointed at the stage and said, "The show is over there," while the behavior continued. Around us, multiple people talked throughout songs and scenes, and later in the evening I even saw someone openly filming the show on an iPhone. I eventually had to leave my seats (Main Floor 2, Row G) and speak to management because the disruptions were so bad I couldn't focus on the performance. The only solution offered was seats in the very back of the orchestra. By that point, the experience was already frustrating enough that it took a while to calm down and enjoy the show again. What's most disappointing is that this is the SECOND time I've experienced terrible audience behavior at this theater. I previously saw Back to the Future here and dealt with nonstop talking during that performance too. I attend theater regularly in Southern California at Segerstrom Center for the Arts and also frequently see shows in New York City. Ushers there actively monitor audience behavior and quickly shut down disruptions. At the Paramount, it felt completely unmanaged. For the prices being charged -- around $350 for my tickets through Ticketmaster -- audience members should not have to deal with talking, singing, and filming throughout a Broadway performance. Amazing production. Extremely disappointing theater management and audience control.

Originally opened in 1934, the Blue Moon carries the kind of atmosphere you cannot recreate -- walls covered in decades of music, art, stickers, photographs, and stories. A dimly lit room packed with musicians, writers, artists, and people who genuinely appreciate creativity in its raw form. Throughout the night, the stage moved between live music, poetry, and performances from local artists while the crowd filled the tavern from the bar to the stage floor. Places like this remind me why independent art still matters. As an author traveling all over the United States -- and as someone who lived in the Seattle area for 2 1/2 years -- standing on that stage reading poetry from Purple Rose in a venue with this much history behind it was really something special. What I loved most was how welcoming the environment was. This is a very LGBTQ-friendly, art-friendly space where people genuinely support one another. If you are brand new to open mics or nervous about sharing your work for the first time, this is the kind of place where you will absolutely be shown kindness and encouragement. There were so many talented musicians, poets, and performers there, and you could really feel the appreciation for creativity throughout the room. The setup of the tavern itself is awesome. The stage and seating area wrap around the bar in almost a U-shape, so you can really choose your own vibe for the night. If you want to stay close to the performances and music, there is a dance floor and table area near the stage. If you want something more relaxed, you can hang back near the bar, have a drink, and still enjoy the atmosphere without being directly in the middle of everything. They also have a full bar, arcade games, board games, books to read, and even a small library on the shelves throughout the tavern. Somewhere inside, you may even find a signed copy of Purple Rose that I left hidden and dedicated to the historic Blue Moon itself. Beautiful evening with wonderful people. I, my wife, and her friend stopped by for New Year's Drinks around 6, and about 6:30 or so, made the mistake of asking Tim Duvall, the clearly drunken before 7:00 PM owner of the establishment, whether outside food can be brought into the bar. This led to his regaling us with an extended and utterly unsolicited history of the bar. He then invited himself to sit with us, halfway into the seat before slurring a "Can I sit down?" to insert himself into our booth. We then moved to another unsolicited conversation, this time about politics. Now, to be clear - I have no doubt that I and a sober Tim Duvall probably agree on most of our politics. This did not stop him from berating me as I agreed with his point, loudly escalating and yelling as I tried to agree with him (again... to be clear, I DIDN'T disagree his political view) until he stood and began yelling that I was kicked out. As I stood to talk on him, he became VERY comfortable with putting his hands on me, grabbing my sweatshirt to move me. I was NOT about to challenge that as a Black man new to Seattle that doesn't know how the police would handle things. I need to be very specific about how quickly this man felt comfortable touching me, grabbing my sweater to "drag" me. This is the step that is WAY over the line. I would genuinely like to recommend this place, as I'm looking for bars that offer sugar cane soda. Drunken ownership- in the early evening in New Year's - that feels comfortable being handsy with Black folk is far too much. AVOID at all costs.
