Chaotic atmosphere, zero communication from the moment you walk into the place and when we finally figured out their system on our own, it took 25 min to just get our drinks. You order by scanning their QR code, because they have no food menus, then they charge you a fee of $2.00 for using their required system, so you can have the privilege of ordering their trash food! I ordered a basic margarita for $9.50 and was charged $18. The tacos are served with flour tortillas, not corn like tacos should be. The barbacoa was sweet and disgusting. I've never not tipped a Server before, but when you ignore your tables and overcharge on drinks, well then that's your tip. If you are expecting authentic Mexican food this isn't the place, but if you're looking for Mexican food fit for Chili's and pasty, basic white folks, then this is your place!! I can't say I am a huge fan of Mexican food in general, or bars in particular, and certainly not ones decorated in neon skulls, but my parent's chose this place (see note below) so I came with an open mind. The interior seating area was clean and neat but not busy; apparently, sometimes they are slammed and other times slow. The outdoor area looked marvelous on a nice warm day like this. The inside was still pretty dark in the middle of the day and I had trouble reading the menu. The menu wasn't large but it had all the usual suspects: tacos, nachos, enchiladas, burritos (and other words I couldn't spell and had to look up online). Many were available with ground beef, pork, chicken, barbacoa (brisket), or vegetables. Upon the advice of the chef, I went with the barbacoa for my red enchiladas and some of their smoked chicken wings. We started with chips and salsa and queso. I guess technically there weren't any vegetables harmed in the making of my meal, but that's okay. My father had the breakfast quesadilla and my mother had some the vegetable taco special. Food came up quick enough, and there was a large bottle of water to share. Which proved its worth, as there were 6 different bottles of hot sauce on the table and I had to try them all. One was a "late bloomer" and I had already moved on to the next one when it hit. Yow! The enchiladas were very good and filling, and I managed only two of the three. The wings were a bit small and were an interesting mix of deep fried and smoked. Crispy wing they were not, but they were finished in a sauce or glaze that made them more like excellent Mexican barbeque chicken. They were greasy though. I finished by ordering churros, one of my guilty pleasures that I always order when I see them on a menu. The menu said that they were homemade, which made me excited until the chef confirmed that they were not. DIRTY POOL! They lose a star for knowingly misrepresenting a menu item. As a prepared churro they were okay but filled with a sweet cream ("dulces de something"... I got sick of looking up Mexican words) they were much too cloying. I suggest they start making them from scratch. If you like quirky places, you might like this place. If you like scratch-made Mexican food, you probably would enjoy this place. If you have skull tattoos or think Cinco de Mayo should be everyday, this is likely the best place you will ever go to! Like most of you, I was super pumped to hear there was a new Mexican restaurant in town. I tried calling several days prior to meeting some girls for dinner to make reservations, but, no one ever picked up the phone. One of the other girls in my party did leave a message on the voicemail, but never heard back. SO, if you're wondering, it turns out you cannot make a reservation. The parking lot is TINY! Ended up parking near ESL/Dollar tree. Walking up to the restaurant I noticed the new front patio facing the busy street. This will certainly be a nice hang out on warm days (as long as they change their hours in the summer). Even though it was a chilly day we noticed a lot of people hanging out on the front porch of this place. I quickly realized this is because the Silver Iguana restaurant is small and crowded. Upon entry we squeezed our way past a few high tops and many people packed in like sardines while we looked for a hostess. Eventually we encountered a server who greeted us and took our name down. She said she would call our name, even if we waited outside. After 15 minutes I decide to go back in and make sure my name actually made it to this list that I have yet to physically see. Another waitress said she would make sure to call us when the table was ready. A few minutes later, we just couldn't take the chill from waiting outside and thought we might head in and try to order a Margie. Not an open seat at the bar and people are standing behind all of the seated bar patrons. We pushed to the back where we found the small server station and found "the list". They said, another 15 min +/-. We waited by the backdoor that connects to the tiny parking lot. FINALLY seated at a tiny table. Boy is this place packed. Do not plan on coming with a party consisting of more that 5-6 people cause there just aren't enough seats. Someone dropped off the chips and salsa. The salsa was nothing special. I heard from another yelper that the guac was small so we didn't both to order that as an app. So you know, there is a full bar and lots of beer options, but, no drink menu (yet). Currently there are 2 margarita options. Classic Lime on tap and a grapefruit drink (that I didn't try). When the server came to take our dinner order we made sure to also order our second drink as it takes quite a long time to receive them on a busy Friday. Please note, these margaritas are like 6oz, so, we're talking small. For the food, I got the Baracoa tacos. They were good, but not great and certainly soarse. Opted for the side of guac add-on option to my meal.... it didn't arrive. Had to try and catch someone to order it. Let me tell you, what a disappointment that guac was. It didn't taste or look fresh. It reminded me of processed grocery store guac that comes in a plastic pouch. AHHH, if anything I would be happy with fresh guac and a good margarita. I hope they change their recipe or whatever is going on with that. The $3 ad-on side of rice and beans was small and not too tasty or appetizing looking. So, overall, the food is basic. The classic lime margarita was good. Parking is the worst. Seating is difficult and crammed. Menu is small, BUT, a nice change to the typical overwhelming Mexican restaurant style menu. I do seriously wish they would do away with table service and stick to margaritas and apps. Looking forward to giving this place another try in the summer and improving the above rating........till then............ read more

I've been to Silver Iguana a few times and it is always hit or miss. Tonight was once again very disappointing. The service was mediocre. Waters were dropped at our table of 3 without a greeting and we didn't see our server again for quite a while. Finally she came over and we were able to place an order for a couple of house margaritas - which never disappoint - the best part of the evening. All three of us got tacos, all different. They were all served cold. The cowboy candy was horrible which was very disappointing as it's usually one of our favorites. The Baja taco was a complete let down. Where it used to be a nice, flaky, lightly breaded fish, this one was literally a frozen fish patty microwaved, over done, served cold and mixed with canned Cole slaw - the kind with too much mayo. A complete waste of money and very disappointing. Finally hit rock bottom - we will not go back. read more

Nice catching up with friends on the patio here. Two of us ordered the special margarita-blueberry lemon with a sugar rim! Not too sweet, not too much liquor, it was just the right blend of all flavors for a tasty margarita! The third ordered a beer. We each ordered a taco as an app since we all had dinner plans at home. My shrimp taco was delicious! The other two said their tacos were good but lacking some flavor. Our server was kind and attentive, and she stayed that way through our time there, as the entire patio filled in. I'll check this place out again and order more food for review on. We usually go for the drinks on tuesdays, those are always pretty good. Last few times we had a gentleman named Will as our server and he was fantastic. But I am not a fan of the tacos. They are too watery and make my soft shell soggy or spill all over the plate. Very unappetizing, but the burritos are delicious and aren't that watery at all. Definitely worth trying out. read more

My overall experience at The Silver Iguana was okay. It took a while to get seated, but once we were seated the service was smooth. We sat outside and ordered drinks: a "Dark & Stormy" and a "spicy Habanero Margarita". Drinks were a 10/10. We got chips and salsa which was good, but the chips could have been warmer/fresher. We got "Cowboy Candy, Ahi Tuna, and Pollo" tacos and the "Cowboy Candy" was definitely the favorite. 2 of the 4 tacos had pieces of meat in them that were pretty tough to chew and virtually inedible. I would recommend this place to someone for drinks and chips, but I would think of it more as a bar that happens to serve Mexican food than I would a Mexican restaurant. read more

Happy hour specials are good for tacos ($3), but not such a deal on drinks - the house margarita was tasty but $6 on special instead of the usual $7. Food is tasty but inconsistent. The barbacoa taco seeped through the tortilla and it fell apart - maybe from sitting in the kitchen too long before being brought out? The salsa seems to be a different recipe then the last time we were here - more smoky and dark - not a light fresh salsa. Ordered the enchiladas, which on the website is listed as $17. In the description, they tell you to choose your protein, and that if you want rice and beans it is an additional $4.50, which is ridiculous to me. Decided to get just the enchiladas with chicken. 3 small enchiladas come out, barely warm. It tasted alright. Then the bill comes and it is $19 (before tax and tip), not $17. It appears that you have to PAY for the protein that they tell you to choose, which is even more ridiculous to me. The way that the prices for the proteins are advertised on the website are misleading and the price is misleading. No need to price gauge that heavily for a Mexican staple where meat typically goes in enchiladas and are usually served with rice and beans no extra charge. Will not be returning. read more

This was an interesting Mexican style restaurant. It feels more like a tequila bar with food. It's nice and cozy inside, and a great place to have a conversation. The food was filling, but was average in taste. I wasn't crazy about the salsa and chips, but that might be a personal preference. I would suggest giving this place a try if you're out on a warm summer evening with friends, searching for a lost salt shaker & a woman to blame. This was my first time trying this restaurant and will be my last. I ordered online and tried to submit the order. I got a message that the order didn't go through so I did it again. I received an email confirming that I ordered twice, which I didn't. Instead of one carne asada burrito, I got two. Ok, I thought I could warm the 2nd one up later so I didn't dispute that. The parking lot is very small and I had to wait 15 minutes for a parking spot. When I went inside, there was no one at the hostess stand. I finally spotted a server who found the hostess. My order was waiting for me, which was the only good thing about this place. When I cut the burrito in half (easier to eat it that way), all I saw was rice. The burrito was big but was 900% rice with a few pieces of steak (with no flavor) and some beans. I was really hoping that this restaurant was better because it is within walking distance to my house but I won't be walking there ever! read more

I was excited to try this place so I took my wife out on our date night. It's in a nice part of the city, the decor seemed nice, a bit cramped, but I was hopeful. We sat down and it took forever for a server to see us. After being passed off to multiple servers we finally got some water, but still no dedicated server. We finally got a real server and ordered the house margaritas. We finally were able to order an appetizer. Nachos and guacamole. Here's where it gets interesting. The server never came back to check on us after we ordered our nachos to ask what we wanted for dinner. We barely got spoken to the whole evening. To top it all off it took over a half hour to get said nachos and finally get some service. We ate, paid, and went elsewhere for dinner. Restaurants have one chance to impress customers. Third time here. Another Taco Tuesday, this time solo. Not as mobbed as the last time. The first was also a Tuesday night. Specials on Tuesdays, they were mobbed. Special prices on tacos. Second was Sunday. GREAT food. It was hot out, patio and inside were packed. I had the Marina Salad - filling and flavorful. The jalapeno vinaigrette was mild, don't be put off at the thought of that much heat. Brendan had a modified burrito. Portabello mushroom based, enchilada style. It was a big serving and packed with flavor. Margaritas on TAP. You read that right. On. Tap. Keep them flowing. Do NOT leave without ODing on dessert. The Churros are culinary ecstacy. 6 are enough for 2 to share after a good dinner. Service was friendly and hopping. Here now before the dinner rush, Pretty much the bartender holding the fort down when she got slammed. We have a trio of tracks coming - an old school hard shell beef and..., a Barbacoa marinated beef and onion based soft taco, and a Cowboy Candy soft taco. Bourbon and Agave marinated steak based taco. 3rd trip 1 pork, 1 chicken soft taco and 1 barbacoa. All were great. Don't know what else to say. read more

This review is based on a single experience and tries to capture my first impressions. My friend and I weren't planning to come here on a recent girls' get together. We actually wanted coffee and found ourselves in an uncomfortable position around the corner at the nearby coffee shop (we'll save that story for different review!) Given the circumstances, I didn't know what to expect. We walked over, and noticed that there is a small parking lot in back of the building. It wasn't full, and I was surprised that the place wasn't busier on a Friday afternoon for lunch. We arrived around 12:30 I think, and it never got busy. The girl tending bar mentioned to someone else that it was a lot quieter than last week. Since were were in a Mexican bar/taco shop, we thought it fitting to order margaritas. I originally went with the apple cider one - but of course that was "out of season" and so I went with their special. I don't remember what it was, but it had prosecco in it as well. It was ok, but I'm not a connoisseur of margaritas, so you'll have to decide on that for yourself. I wasn't wholly impressed by the menu, I couldn't decide on a taco, and I'm not sure exactly why. Maybe it was just the day, and I was expecting coffee/tea and ended up at a Mexican place (and I had planned tacos for dinner that night too!) Needless to say, I went with a different option - the tostada of the day. And it was ok. I mean, for the price paid, it was small. There was steak and some peppers and onions with a hint of cilantro on it. And basically it was a boring bun... so again I wasn't really thrilled with it. But it wasn't bad. The steak was well cooked and had a good flavor... and the chips and salsa were very good. I had a good go at them (my poor friend was out of luck). The salsa has a roasted red-pepper flavor, and it made for a good side to the tostada. To be honest, I think I would come back here for one purpose: chips and drinks. I would sit at the bar, enjoy the fact that the bar tender is not overly interested, but checked in on us occasionally. I liked the feel of the bar - a little dark and rustic. The stools were comfortable enough, and the decor was interesting. First impressions - three stars. Maybe if I go next time with the mindset of getting drinks and chips I'll be much more satisfied with my experience. read more

We loved our experience here and will definitely return. We came for Taco Tuesday and there were many delicious tacos. We tried beef, chicken and pork. We also had nachos with shredded pork and gaucamole which were so good, and also a huge portion, a sheet tray. These easily could have been shared for our whole meal. Their house made orange jalapeño hot sauce was also incredible. Our server, Jen, was another highlight of our visit. She was friendly, fun, and gave us great service throughout our visit. She was also very knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations. Also the house margarita was delightful. read more

The literal worst service i've ever received in my life. Waited for a table for 20 mins, then once sat, it took another 15 minutes before our server even came to the table. When she finally made it to the table, she asked if we were ready to order everything. we said we were ready to place a drink order and then waited another 20 mins for our drinks, which probably could've made it to our table sooner, had it not been for the 3 servers taking numerous shots behind the bar. To close it all out, the server (after watching her take at least 3 shots) ran my boyfriends card for someone else's order. My husband's order was missing a taco, my son's was a burrito instead of nachos. They resolved the issues by not charging us for the errors but then we had to wait for the nachos. My first visit to Silver Iguana wasn't the best, and I knew that after several months the menu and the service would settle into something really good. I pleased to report that they have hit their stride! I went at lunch time on the weekend and in addition to the regular food menu there was a brunch menu. Among us we had the nachos (which thankfully comes in a half order as well as a full), the avocado toast and huevos rancheros. Bloody Mary and mimosa options were offered with a Mexican twist. They have a signature drink concept now- the submarino- a small bottle of liquor served upright in a can of beer. I'll be having that on my next visit. I did have the Joe Bean cold brew coffee on a nitro tap, which was outstanding. It's pure frothy goodness! The food was overall very good. The only thing I didn't love was the tomatoes on the avocado toast which were marinated in something tangy and lemony. With the bounty of beautiful locally grown tomatoes right now, I would much rather have had fresh local tomatoes with no seasonings. Overall, Silver Iguana has figured it out! Their concept is fully formed and they have beautiful outdoor seating. Definitely worth a trip to North Winton Village! read more

I was here on a Saturday night with some ladies for margaritas mainly and was very surprised at how much I like the food! The restaurant is in a house. Parking is in the back so don't be afraid to keep driving in, just be careful because the driveway that leads to the back can only fit one car it seems. When you walk in there's a small bar area and my party was seated at a large table. The decor is rustic and cool, reminds me kind of like a old saloon?? The waitress was super nice and cool. She made me a custom margarita when I said I like my drinks on the sweeter side. It was delicious, but unfortunately I have no idea what it was lol. For food we got a ton of complementary chips and dip. The salsa was fresh and chips crisp so no complaints. For food I got 3 tacos, the carne con papas, carnitas and one of their specials that day that I just can't remember. When they came out I couldn't really tell which was which meat, but I can say that all the meats were very tender. I love the sweet salty flavor of all three. The soft shells held up very well too, which was a plus. Unfortunately I dumped too much xxx hot sauce on one of them. Beware, it's hot!! But I ate it anyway because it was so good lol. I also got a side of rice and beans. This I could have passed on because they tasted like nothing. For dessert we got the churros. You HAVE to try these, they were soooo yummies! Each plate comes with 6 churros so it was perfect for our party of 6. The outside of these churros were crisp and the inside was moist. The best part was the milky filling that oozed out as you bite into it. It was decadent but the outside was light and fluffy that it was well balanced. Loved every bite of it! I must say the wait was pretty long for our food. I think it was worth it though because I was pleasantly surprised about the quality of the tacos. Oh I really wanted to love this place. It wasn't overall a horrible experience, it just wasn't what I was expecting, especially food-wise. The atmosphere was very casual, intriguing- funky, pirate-y, but a little dark. It was really difficult to read the menu or see what you were eating. The service was nice and very prompt. A water jug is left on the table so you always have cold water. The beers were ice cold and fresh (XX on draft). It had much more of a bar vibe than I was expecting. We sat at a high top. There were also normal dinner tables on one side. The outdoor front patio looks amazing so I imagine it will be a big hit for drinks in the summer. The food really fell short for me. There were free chips and salsa, which was nice since that seems to be a dying art in Mexican restaurants lately. The salsa wasn't up my alley- it was very very sweet and very little spice. However it was chunky and fresh tasting, just not my particular favorite Mexican profile. The real disappointment were the entrees. I can only speak for myself since others in my group ordered the same and seemed completely content. We ordered fajitas. Big DISCLAIMER for future customers; these are NOT fajitas. Fajitas are traditionally served in a sizzling skillet with fresh tortillas, a side of cheese, rice and beans. Well, these "fajitas" were served 100% prepared. They actually looked like tacos. 3 flour tortillas already filled with meat, peppers, onions and cheese.... and I'm not sure what else since I couldn't see my food in the dimly lit room. While this was less mess, it definitely took away from the true fajita experience. They also didn't taste particularly authentic. They were served with a side of rice and beans that some at my table were raving about, however, I found that they tasted heavily of salt and lacked true traditional Mexican flavors. I wish I had tried the tacos instead, maybe their tacos are were authenticity shines, but I wasn't tasting it in the "fajitas". I'd suggest giving it a whirl for the sake of the cool patio, potentially fresh drinks, and maybe some tacos? Just don't have super high expectations like I did! read more

Cons: Parking was very confusing and I ended up parking on a side street for fear of being towed. Upon first walking in, no one greeted us and my friend and I were just standing there like fools until the bar tender told us to walk to the back to be seated by a server. I originally ordered the sangria to start, but was told they were all out (cmon! You can't be out at a Mexican restaurant!?) Since I couldn't have the sangria, I got one of their margaritas and it was incredibly weak. Barely any alcohol in it. Pros: After being disappointed with my first drink, I ordered a Cosmo in hopes it would be stronger. YES IT WAS! I was done after that! Well done! The food is just delicious! The chips and salsa are to die for. They sprinkle this spicy seasoning on the chips, so they have a little kick. Yum! My tacos were flavorful and filling. I wish I could have ordered a couple more. Just be careful with the beef tacos as you might end up looking like a pig trying to bite and rip. They don't break apart very easily. The ambience is really quite nice. My friends and I finally decided to try this place as we've heard mixed reviews. We absolutely loved everything! Maybe we got lucky and came at the right time but we found parking in the back - which is a small lot but there is plenty of street parking. The inside is tiny but we found 3 seats at the bar. The bartender Mike was awesome, so attentive and friendly. We ordered the seasonal strawberry margarita ($9 I believe) may be a little high but its highly recommended!! One guy brought us complimentary chips & salsa which were crispy and the salsa had the right amount of spice. I ordered the chicken tacos and my friends had enchiladas. Our food was delicious. I go back and forth with this place. The food is OK; nothing otherworldly, but I like the portobello tacos, and I think they have yummy margaritas. However sometimes - particularly when you are sitting outside on a beautiful day and you have kids with you - the service can be miiiighty slow (bordering on 'ignoring you so long they hope you leave' slow). Still definitely a fun neighborhood spot to grab a drink, especially in the summer. read more

I got the mushroom taco which was really good and the mushrooms had a really nice texture to them. The hot sauce they used in the taco was pretty good as well. I have been here 2 times now. Both have been during their soft opening phase. Their drinks are great an pretty reasonable! The atmosphere is awesome! The staff is great as well! We had a sampling of tacos during the first day of their soft opening and they were delicious. The corn tortillas were super good, usually corn tortillas are really dry/chewy, these were perfect! The 2nd time we came, we got a seat right at the bar. It was a bit more chaotic that night and they did run out of food, but the staff was great even though they were under so much pressure and of course they couldn't make everyone happy. I can't wait till they get a bit more organized because it is the perfect additional the the N. Winton area. So excited to keep coming back to this place and looking forward to trying everything on their menu! read more
