My husband and I have always driven by here and haven't made the stop in until tonight and I do have to say, we were both pretty impressed! I got the mushroom taco which was really good and the mushrooms had a really nice texture to them. The hot sauce they used in the taco was pretty good as well. I also got the bean enchiladas and the enchilada sauce was really good as well as the bean filling. I have been here 2 times now. Both have been during their soft opening phase. Their drinks are great an pretty reasonable! The atmosphere is awesome! The staff is great as well! We had a sampling of tacos during the first day of their soft opening and they were delicious. The corn tortillas were super good, usually corn tortillas are really dry/chewy, these were perfect! The 2nd time we came, we got a seat right at the bar. It was a bit more chaotic that night and they did run out of food, but the staff was great even though they were under so much pressure and of course they couldn't make everyone happy. I can't wait till they get a bit more organized because it is the perfect additional the the N. Winton area. So excited to keep coming back to this place and looking forward to trying everything on their menu! read more

Food was great. We walked in and were seated right away at 6:30pm on a Friday (I attribute this to luck). Only reason this is not a 4/5 is because overall it's a bit pricey. For a taco and tequila bar there aren't many specials. $10 Margs and $5 Coronas. Tried this cute place today, the hostess/server was very friendly from the start, she was kind and attentive. I had the Sante Fe Salad with chicken and my friend had the Burrito Bowl with chicken. I'm giving this 4 stars because the food was great, the margaritas passed my super strict test, and because I didn't feel like they just opened. Everyone just had their shit together! However, there are a few areas of improvement. They are definitely on their way to a 5 star review with me! I wish I could do 4.5! The owner was saying that they will be introducing drinks one week at a time... so the current one is a Paloma, and they will get fancier from there. And the margarita comes from a tap!! So cool! My husband didn't love the Paloma as an actual Paloma.. he said it tasted much more like a margarita and lacked much of the grapefruit flavor that it's supposed to have. But the margarita was delicious, so I guess no actual complaint there. I will say that I could drink more margaritas here than other places... so although the tequila flavor is there, maybe the drink is a little less potent. Not really a complaint though! I'm not sure how much of the interior styling came from Brunello or what they put in themselves, but it's definitely cute inside! However, the bathrooms weren't labeled. And if I didn't catch someone coming out of one at the exact right time, I would have been adventuring up or down the stairs. So, bathroom signs are recommended!! For the food, I got a carnitas taco and a fish taco. The carnitas was very good, but the fish taco was definitely my favorite!! The charred flavor on the Mahi was delicious. (And side note, it's really nice to eat mahi mahi again since there is a shortage at Wegmans!!!) Also free chips and salsa - and they kept it coming! The salsa definitely wasn't my favorite though, too chunky and lacking flavor. I will come back way more often if the salsa is improved!!! This was my second time going to silver iguana, the first time I went I really enjoyed it. The food was good, good atmosphere and the drinks were good. I went on cinco de mayo with my girlfriend who flew in from Utah for a special night out. We showed up and we're told there was a 45 minute wait, we didn't mind. It ended up being an hour wait to sit down. Once we finally were seated, no waitress came up to us. When someone did come over, we ordered our meal, drink and appetizers immediately (all at once). We were never given utensils, waters, plates, napkins.... Nothing. It took 35 minutes for our drinks to come. 45 minutes for our appetizer (of which was cold), and by this time, other tables (who were seated after us) were getting their meals, drinks and appetizers before us. We ended up asking for our food to go and for our bill. Yet, it took another 20 minutes for them to do this. The place was closing and empty and we had no hospitality. When I went to the bathroom, I saw my waitress vaping (no reason for her to be able to vape, and not bring my food to my table on time). Once we got home to eat the food, we had a tiny portion of rice and beans and the food didn't look good. Overall, I'm quite disappointed and upset with the outcome of this place. Great tacos, mediocre drinks. We went on a Friday night, so there was a good size crowd. Wandered around to find the hostess. She asked if we wanted a table and asked how many. She didn't write anything down which was a little unsettling, but she found us at the bar 20 minutes later to seat us. Our server was prompt and friendly. We ordered five different tacos and enjoyed them all. It was nice to see that will swap out the tortillas for lettuce leaves. I deducted a star because we tried three different cocktails and none of them tasted as good as they sounded. I deducted a second star because our table was situated by the back door and the coat rack. Between the rushes of cold air and people adding and removing coats which required my husband to move, it was an uncomfortable location. My husband and I live in the neighborhood and used to love coming here. The last 3 visits have been pretty terrible because they simply can't handle full capacity. Each of these times, there has only been one bartender and one waiter on staff. Tonight we came in, were told by the bartender to sit wherever we wanted, and then waited for 20 minutes without seeing the waiter. When I went back up to the bar to ask for menus, the bartender was a bit snippy asking me if I could wait another minute. The waiter did end up showing up and was clearly spread way too thin. They both tried their best, but without another waiter in the room, things were quickly falling apart. We were there for over an hour and all we had ordered were chips, salsa, and 2 quesadillas. We love the food here, but unfortunately we won't be back anytime soon. TL;DR: Get your food to go or skip it altogether unless you have a lot of time to kill. read more

First off the name of this joint puzzles me, as I have never seen a silver iguana, but I'm not the most traveled guy in the world. That said, I know mediocre Mexican food when I taste it (any Rochester native should be familiar with mediocre mexican) and this place delivered just that. The menu is kind of small which I appreciated; between the two of us we got enchiladas a barbacoa taco and the marina salad. Each had their own merits but nothing was that memorable. The enchiladas had a nice flavor but were just lukewarm temperature wise. The salad had a super spicy dressing which i couldn't tolerate (glad I got it on the side) and consisted of half cotija cheese and half salad greens/cucumbers. The cheese was tasty but you can have too much of a good thing. The taco, it was ok I guess, but the shell itself was kind of chewy. The braised meat was tender and flavorful, but the overload of onions..you will be burping onion burps hours after. Our waitress was absolutely wonderful and the employees here are skilled at customer service and creating an upbeat vibe. My favorite part of the meal was the guac! It wasn't overly spicy,,score!! The Silver Iguana has very good food, and their cocktails are wonderful. Their menu is not huge, but it doesn't need to be. They have the standard carnitas, chicken and barbacoa, as well as a couple vegetarian options (grilled veggie tacos, portobello mushroom tacos, mushroom quesadilla), and you can sub portobellos into the burrito and a copuple other dishes in place of the meat. I've only been there for dinner once. Their margaritas are good, but seemed a bit on the small size. The habanero mango margarita is awesome. Most of the time I have been there for lunch, and sat outside. The atmosphere on the front patio is nice, and gives ample people-watching opportunities. The single reason I am not giving the Silver Iguana a higher rating is the service. The four times I have been there for lunch, I have been with co-workers, dressed in business casual, with corporate ID badges. The amount of time from when we sat down til when we even got menus and water seemed a bit extended, and the amount of time from when our plates were cleared and we received our check, and then again from that time until the checks were taken up seemed oddly long. The Silver Iguana is in its soft opening phase, and even on week nights this place has been pretty slammed due to curious patrons. Warmer weather makes everyone go crazy for fresh Mexican. I want to rate this place 4 stars for the bar, 3.5 for the cuisine. In my mind, I classify this place as a" bar that serves decent food", rather than a full blown restaurant. The House Margarita is $7, and seems to use Espolon products. They have several different types of tequila, Kracken rum, Titos, etc. As for their beer selection, I noticed that they carried bottled Dos Equis, Coronas, and Modelos. The also have a decent draft selection currently that features Harpoon, Allagash, Ommegang, Fat Tire, Ballast Point, and a few others. When I walked in there was a very lively crowd for a Sunday, and there was some good 80s music playing. Due to its crowd, we put in for seating, and were told it would take about 20 minutes. We ended up snagging a table at the bar, and gave our table up to the hostess that would have seated us outside. It was chilly that night, but the patio and pergola area looked like a very inviting, fun place to hang out with a group of friends. The inside has a few high top tables, and some additional seating in the back. I have a feeling on a busy night, it will have that restaurant roar that will need to balance with the loud music, but it is definitely a great place to start, end, or spend the night throwing back some cocktails to forget about the hectic workweek. The food for me was a 3.5. I ordered the carnitas tacos on a corn shell, and I had some of the beef enchiladas with rice and black beans. Tacos are not mix and match, neither are the enchiladas. It is cheaper and more efficient for the cooks to pound out a 3 for $10 taco plate, than to do several different types of tacos for the same price. If you want to mix and match, it is $4 a taco instead. The carnitas tacos were tasty, and kind of drippy/wet. I would bite into them and would get water/carnitas juice on my hand. I liked the texture and the toppings, but the meat needs more flavor. I didn't want to drown it in Cholula, because I wanted the full effect. The enchilada beef was the same. The meat was tender, and had that smoky/char flavor, but it lacked sufficient seasoning. The portions are a lot smaller than say, Salenas, but as I said before, I like to think of this place as a bar that serves food, not a full blown, order whatever Mexican place. The burrito looked pretty large, so if you are hangry, order that. I didn't taste it, but I SEEN it. The presentation is very good, and the rice and beans made up for the lack of flavor from the meat. I think the black beans kicked some serious ass. I will probably order a side of that with whatever I get next time. The chips and salsa were good too, and I love it when salsa is chunky with full veggies, not just watery sludge. There seemed to be some issues with people getting their guac with their order, but as aforementioned, the staff is still getting their systems down, they are in their soft opening phase. For being so new, they really did a nice job. The bartender service was pretty phenomenal. I had a drink on my bill that we didn't order, and it was taken off immediately without any problem. I think as this place gets more settled in, it will be a solid cantina spot. I read in USA today, the owner also owns the Bug Jar and Dragonfly, to put things into perspective. I wonder if they will also have live music here. I think this place will be attracting a younger, fun demographic to the Winton area. read more

Waited over an hour from the time we ordered, closer to an hour and a half from when we were seated and never even got our appetizer. Nothing. I don't think we were the only people to walk out during the time we were there. Our server was MIA for most of the experience- he was super busy but we didn't even see him at other tables, he was just gone, nowhere in sight. Another server, Carly, was awesome and kept stopping by, checking on us and telling us the kitchen was slammed. I felt bad but we left. Waiting over an hour for nachos, let alone the meals we ordered.... that's insane. It's 9:30 right now, we left the house at 7:30 and now we're back home, still hungry and have to find something to scrape together here & wait for that to cook. When we walked by the basement window, the kitchen are cooking food in the basement. We weren't sure but still went for it. The Silver Iguana fills the Mexican food spot that I craved once Mex closed. While the area is not as convenient as downtown east ave is, Winton has taken a life of its own and provides a great backdrop to a great social experience. The food (the tacos) are great and cheap enough to want more. I wouldn't say it was mind blowing but it was a good accompaniment to the drinks. And let me tell you about the drinks. The beer was great and the drinkers were even better. The service was good, the interior is a bit small but if I had the opportunity to sit outside (it was packed) I would.
