The entire experience was mid. The only thing that kept it from being completely bad was that the food at least had seasoning. I ordered bean burritos, and they were dry. They came with rice and beans on the side, which would've been fine if I hadn't already been given two full burritos stuffed with beans. Somehow I ended up with more beans than rice. On top of that, I had to wait way too long just to ask for sour cream and salsa. The salsa was disgusting. The water was warm. Our server was inattentive and ineffective the entire time, and there wasn't even salt or pepper on the table. I literally needed salt to make the salsa tolerable. Our total was $54, plus a $10 tip. For the price? Absolutely not worth it. Service? Trash. I would never go back. read more

We've not been to Tavos in awhile but it's always been a fav and I always highly recommend it to my friends who agree. Tonite was different despite our lovely waitress, Emily. The good news is that the guacamole continues to be the best in town and the queso fundito with chorizo was excellent. For me it stops there. My go-to dish , Vallarta al Mojo, had an overpowering garlic sauce unlike the previous soft rendition. So disappointing though the husband loved it. I also enjoy the non- alcoholic margaritas but tonite it was hard to come by one that did not taste heavily of alcohol. The house team insisted it was peppers but ..... there you have it. read more

We spontaneously decided to try this place out after going to the gym and it was a wonderful experience. I love how colorful and decorated the interior is. There's also a cute outdoor seating area where you can choose to sit under a shaded tent area on wooden benches or be exposed to the sun. Service was good and we were seated within a few minutes. I ordered the enchilada salsa verde and it was very delicious. Just the right amount of spice (since I can't tolerate spicy food in general, I know I'm a weaksauce). It came with rice and beans on the side. The serving size was perfect where I didn't feel stuffed afterwards. The menu is double sided and has a bunch of authentic dishes. I really wish they had elote on their menu! Definitely will come back and try other items! read more

As a Mexican-American, this is the best Mexican food I've ever had in NY, and possibly my life! (Outside of my mom's kitchen!) The service was great, it was a bit of wait for our food but it was absolutely worth it. You can tell how much care goes into the food, the quality, everything. I ordered the red pozole and it was delicious (and spicy so ask before you order about spice level maybe?) but it felt like home. My partner ordered the combo with the tostadas and one chalupa and he was STUFFED. We cleaned our plates! Truly amazing restaurant and perhaps one of the best meals I've ever had. Love the location, centrally located with plenty of parking. Restaurant decor was colorful and vibrant. Wait staff was "friendly", but the whole time we (myself and two friends) felt rushed and pushed to order and hurry up leave. We arrived at 5:30, fair amount of people, but by no means packed. Drinks were good, and food overall was ok...but unfortunately on the cold side- especially the rice. I had the Birria tacos, which were good, just different with long hard strings of the Mexican cheese on top. My friends both had tacos and seemed to enjoy them. Been back a number of times since my original review... and it has only gotten better... most exciting news was they had Pazole, and it was fantastic. So thrilled, means that I no longer have to drive to Canandaigua when I am craving green or red Pazole. Great service, busy place, but was not overwhelming. It was OK. About what I'd expect from a Mexican restuarant in upstate New York. I'll start with the positives. The decor is really nice. Lots of art on the walls and very colorful. It's a nice atmosphere. The workers are all really nice and helpful. I got the "enchiladas" which tasted pretty good, but they weren't exactly enchiladas. Enchiladas usually have the meat rolled inside the corn tortilla. My "enchilada" just had meat stacked on top of a bed of corn tortillas. So I guess you could call it a deconstructed enchilada? In that all the enchilada incredients were there... it just wasn't put together in the form of an enchilada. Again, it still tasted pretty good, I just thought it was a bit strange. Oh and the enchiladas were a bit cold. And so was the rice and beans. My partner got the tacos and they were quite a bit overfilled. You couldn't even pick them up to eat them like a taco and sauce was soaked through the tortilla on both the inside and outside which made it pretty hard to pick up without it breaking and impossible to pick up without getting sauce drenched all over your fingers. I had one of her tacos and it was almost impossible to eat like a taco. I eventually had to resort to just eating it with a knife and fork. Unfortunately the tacos didn't taste all that great either. They weren't bad, but they were just kinda meh. I think I would have been more forgiving on the food if it wasn't all so expensive. Other places do better enchiladas and tacos for cheaper. So this being expensive and the food being just kinda meh made it a 3 star in my eyes. There's nothing inherently wrong with the place. It's just kinda average, hence the 3 stars. I'd go back if I am nearby (but would probably avoid the tacos). read more

Food is colorful and textures are good, but the spice (or lack of spice) leaves something to be desired. Birria tacos were the best thing we ordered from our meal. The three routine tacos were lack luster. The loaded elote dip was colorful, fresh, but the corn was too sweet, not enough spice, not enough cheese, and overall not enough kick. We tried Tavo's when they first opened and they were good. But we came here again last weekend and wow, they have gotten even better with time. Every single dish was absolutely delicious. The Mole was a stand out. Deep, layered flavors and smooth balance. The guacamole was extra delicious, too, and it was a perfect amount for two people. We also had the mushroom quesadilla and the chicken flautas, both of which were utterly scrumptious. The meal was well timed, service was attentive, the servings were the perfect size... Generous but not so much they feel sloppy. Everything was plated beautifully. Our wine and cocktail were delicious too. I know how hard it is to run a successful restaurant, especially these days. Tavo seems to be nailing it, and I'm always really appreciative when a meal goes off so flawlessly like this. It means the staff in the kitchen and the bar and the dining room are all working in sync to make that experience the best it can be. I came on a very cold snowy evening right after work, by recommendation of a co-worker. Las Aguilas Margarita, Guacamole and Tacos Surtidos(one of each kind) I ordered. Peculiar the religious veladoras on each table. I keep eating eyeing the Virgin, and feeling pious. The Margarita was on the rocks, , they don't have frozen ones. Anyway too cold the weather for frozen drinks. Nice, but less ice will improve it. Menu Tacos Tuesday. I liked the Guacamole, an artistic presentation.accompanied by a basket of crunchy nachos. I couldn't stop eating. The Three Tacos came with Chicken, Barbacoa Beef & Carnitas. Delicious. I wanted an espresso to cap the meal, but they don't have espresso coffee. It was a new experience, and the food was good. Portions were a regular size. I was able to finish each dish. Ambiance was pleasant, early not too many people eating at the time, and service was friendly. Small private parking next to the restaurant. I will return. read more

This is my second visit but first to dine here. From what I understand it's part of the family that owns Rio Tamatolan in Canandaigua. I'll be frank that place is better. The inside is full of lively colors, lots of happy people at the bar and it's loud so be prepared to ask your dinner guests again what they are saying. We came here on a Thursday after 7pm it was busy but our wait was only minutes. We had perused the menu prior and knew what we wanted. A few of us ordered cocktails, they have seasonal drinks so that was nice. I got a margarita with coconut in it it was lovely and my friend got a margarita as well I think it may have been blood orange. They were tasty but they took forever to appear we got our food and was eating it and these showed up. I understand the bar gets busy but I really could not enjoy the drink fully. We ordered some tacos for my two diners and I got a burrito now here's the thing my burrito was to have a green verde sauce I did not question it when it came but they brought out the wrong one and I started to eat it.. they brought me my actual order and told me I could take the first one home or whatever on them. I appreciated this with my order and my other diners we got a side of rice and refried beans. Unfortunately they were flavorless and luke warm at best. The tacos from what I was told were decent but not as good as they could be. My burrito was beautifully plated as well as everything else. Thing is I ate one half of my burrito cause I was hungry but it had no umami no um I wanna eat all of it. This kind of gave me pause cause usually Mexican food has that certain something, salt, fat, acid, heat and umami that just makes you go yes gimme more. Also we were told at the beginning they ran out of guacamole?! Ok... Service was friendly and efficient it's a busy place and not enough servers. I'll give them another whirl but I was expecting a bit more as others I know really enjoyed the place. Maybe it was an off night... For now it's a 3.5 outta 5. Our First visit was good (and more busy) in that we got attended to right away during the whole visit. Our Second time was about 6:30 pm on a Saturday evening. Not busy inside and we easily waited at least 20 min before our order was taken. At least food makes up for it. read more

Went in for my first visit here after it was highly recommended and was not disappointed. I got the Enchiladas pictured below. A few things about this dish. It was absolutely delicious, however I will never order it again. I personally found the Mole sauce to be way too spicy. It was very tasty but just too much for me. The chipotle sauce and poblano sauce were great as well. Their sides of beans and rice that come with it were also some of the best I've had, especially the beans. I'm highly upset about my service Saturday January 31st. I came there to meet some friends for birthday drinks at 1pm. The bartender with curly hair was extremely rude. I don't know if it was short staffed but when she asked if it was a birthday celebration she seemed very upset. It wasn't overly crowded and my group was respectful of the space. Rude Comments were made and she assumed everything was on one tab when we only had 3 people on our card. It's very upsetting cause I came back because of her good service before but never will again because of the experience today. It was a very hard birthday to celebrate with recent losses. Drinks were exceptionally slow, my first cocktail took 17 minutes. Bartender on that Saturday night at 5p with all the stool open-- clearly was having an off night all night. Let's talk food. Looks amazing, but nothing was a great bite. Tacos de Nada were good, very mild with the garlic. Enchiladas de Mole, okay and not spicy at all. You tell me chorizo and I expect a pop of that fatty spicy sausage. We also order the chorizo tacos, guacamole, and can't recall the name of the other one. I'm giving the experience 3 stars, hoping it was an off night. Doubt I would return or recommend in a social gathering as a must go.
