On a three night vacation, we ate here two nights in a row. The service and staff are beyond friendly, rivaling the Ritz-Carlton itself. The food is all cooked fresh to order. There are rotating nightly specials in addition to the standard menu. The menu appears small, but it is hard to decide. The first night we had the Roasted Corn and Crab Dip, the Bacon Cheeseburger, the Chicken Tenders, the Peanut Butter Pie and the frozen key lime pie. The second night we had more Chicken Tenders, the Steak Frites, and two Peanut Butter pies. If we had know about this place the first night, we would have come three nights in a row. It is a cozy little dive bursting with personality that starts with writing your own name on the chalk board. There is no sign that says "Silver Moon", so looks for the "Bar and Grill" sign and the party lights. Don't miss this spot!! read more

Everyone loves the moon! The food is always good. The atmosphere is "local". I love their fried shrimp, the burger s and Frday and Sat shrimp night. Great spot for dinner at Lake Oconee! Definitely a "locals favorite". Great food, great service and great prices! Just be warned that you might have to wait for a table at peak times. Two thumbs up for the bar staff!! We luckily found two seats at the bar (good thing, our wait would have been long). Somewhat limited tap beers but good choices. Wine list much better and not unreasonable priced. Both our meals (fried shrimp special and steak frites) were well done, tasty and more than enough food for one. Chocolate bread pudding was yummy but too much chocolate for me (crazy I know). The best part of dinner was the two bar tenders. Remember my Ritz review about limited things around the area? Well here is one place you can go! Food here is good, bar is great, service is great! This little local pub will fill up quickly. It has many locals as the tourist will pass it by since it is not marked from the road outside of a "Bar". My wife and I had the fish and shrimp, my brother in law had the strip. I loved the side of fried green tomato. The portions here are large and the price is right. Again, at the Ritz and looking for laid back, casual, good food priced right. No, there is not a sign- drive by too fast and you'll miss it. If you do, be sure to turn around and high tail it back to this unassuming building otherwise you'll regret it. I won't lie, once I find something on the menu I like, I typically stick with it. This is especially true at The Silver Moon since I don't live in Georgia and only visit about once a year. Every time I go I always get the fish n' chips, and it does not disappoint. You get a massive piece of grouper deep fried to perfection atop a generous helping of fries, a side of coleslaw and tartar sauce. I'm not sure what they put in their tartar sauce, but as someone who doesn't usually eat the stuff, I typically ask for extra. I have tried the peel and eat shrimp, which is a special they have on either Friday or Saturday- these are massive and very fresh. My dining companion had the blackened salmon BLT sandwich. This thing was huge; the salmon was cooked perfectly and was very good. She asked if she could have the cheesy grits instead of fries and they were more than happy to oblige. These grits are what grits should taste like. Delicious. My parents live down in this area so they frequent The Silver Moon quite often. I've heard tales of delicious ribs, parmesan grouper and massive deep fried shrimp- but I still can't seem to stray away from my normal order of fish n' chips. Now, this place is kind of a hot spot for the locals so it can get quite busy. I would recommend going earlier or later to avoid the rush. Don't let that deter you, they can usually fly through the wait list at a respectable pace. Parking can be difficult. Their lot isn't huge and fills up quickly. Typically when I've been in the past we would park at the building next to it, they had a large gravel lot and much needed space for all the people parking at the restaurant. BUT, when I was there this week, I noticed the business next door was putting up a fence between the two parking lots, which could make parking much more of a headache in the future. read more

The parking lot is gravel and the building looks like its been added onto a lot. Every 4th car in the lot was a lexus or mercedes which is a surprise in this very unassuming building. Well, it's lake country and the Ritz is only a few miles down the road. I've been there 2x for lunch and 2x for dinner. This was the first time that i really even noticed the interior because it was dark outside. The paper lanterns, cheesy white christmas tree lights and open rafters made it all sort of intimate. The walls, tables and seating are all pine. Whenever there is an open rafter ceiling, i'm looking for dust. But the place is clean - there are at least 6 areas to dine - 2 outdoor, the bar, 2 smaller enclosed areas off the main areas and the large booth area dining. Main dining area has 6 or 7 old tube style TVS mounted on shelves with a dated mural painted above the pine wainscotting. Just tacky enough this side of ugly. I've never had to wait but haven't visited on a weekend. It was 7pm on a Tuesday night and there were the casual lake folks, groups of golfers, friends, even couples dressed in jackets with ascots. Lots of older folks - didn't see any teens or small children. Did notice several tables of lone diners but folks walking in and out would stop at different tables to say "hello" when they recognized someone. i had the chicken fingers and my husband had fish & chips. They were excellent. Fries weren't as crisp as I like them or seasoned enough for my taste but that didn't stop me from eating the little pile. The Chicken fingers were all white meat - huge pieces - i could only eat two pieces and took 3 home for lunch the next day. Well even if i couldn't eat all my dinner, we still had to share the peanut butter pie. In one word "YUM". I think i pulled the dessert plate more towards me to get my share - it was rich, cold and southern goodness. Service was prompt and excellent. read more

Believe the hype! Attentive service, good cocktails, and meals for 3 was $80. We ventured out from our stay at the Ritz Carlton Lodge for dinner and enjoyed every aspect of our evening. It is a paper napkin type restaurant so any type of dress is appropriate. From shorts and T's to dinner jackets. Middle of the road seemed the standard. Jeans and a button down for men and you'll fit in fine to this local after Saturday evening church staple. Sign up your party on the chalkboard as you will probably have a 30min-1 hour wait on a Saturday evening. There's not a whole lot of room to wait but there is a bar area and an outside putting green with plenty of seating to keep little ones pre-occupied. The peel and eat shrimp were tender and sweet! Definitely add the $3.25 dinner salad that has a special treat on top. Fish and chips was probably the best I have had in the U.S. A flaky fried grouper I believe. My wife had the crab stuffed grouper with Parmesan grits. Everything was outstanding! There are different specials nightly. Raw bar, fish tacos, bbq ribs, etc... So don't get your heart set on something until you see that nights menu. read more

We have known Ginger & Greg for close to 20 years living in the Lake Oconee area. They run an excellent operation with Ginger being the chef and Greg being the host. The food and service has been spectacular and we are hard pressed to say what might be a favorite, except the the ribs are the BEST I have ever had anywhere. Since all sea food are fresh and the meats are hand selected, one cannot go wrong with ordering anything on the menu. This place should have a 5 star rating. Guy, from the cooking chanel must come here to pay a visit and tell the foodies in America what a remarkable eatery this is. We stop at THE SILVER MOON whenever we are in for a visit. It was a late time of night to eat but the food did not disappoint... Had the fish (Grouper) sandwich an it was perfect. My father in law had the bone in ribeye which was outstanding. The service was great an we never waited for refills or anything we needed. Going back this weekend for oysters that have been promised fresh we will see. Yes there is no sign, they do that to keep the wait from taking hours I bet! This is another MUST GO place when you are in the lake area. The specials vary by day and I can see why people come back to try each. We went on a Wednesday and I had the meatloaf and it was the best meatloaf I have ever eaten. It is 1lb of meat stuffed with BBQ sauce, onions, mushrooms and cheese and the whole thing is covered by BBQ sauce. My wife and son shared the NY Strip as it was huge. She said it was one of the best steaks she has ever had and that was a surprise from a place on a lake in GA. I had a taste of the steak and I have to agree the flavor was awesome. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. If you are staying at the Ritz, get out of there at night and check out better and cheaper places to eat. Such good food! We shared the cod dinner which came with spinach and tomatoes. Also had a side of broccoli au gratin. Every single bite was delicious! The fish was perfect, the tomatoes tasted super fresh and the spinach cooked just right. Whatever cheese sauce they put on the broccoli was anazing. We were stunned when we ate here tonight at the very rude hostess. She asked us how many and we answered "3" and she rolled her eyes at us. No smile or a welcome for us. We watched her walk by a few times after that and noticed she just had a very bad attitude towards people. I think she needs a little schooling on how to treat people.
