Having been in Laveen for over 20 years we frequent "The Pony" quite often. It is a large dive country style dive bar with two pool tables, good bar food, and sell mini snd regular pitchers of beer. They have a touch tunes juke box, live bands on Saturday I believe, karaoke on Sundays and Tuesdays at last check, and a dance floor whenever you want to dance even by yourself. They also have a patio for smoking. Drinks and food are reasonably prices especially for beer and they do have a hard seltzer and cider offering but it is limited. Being in South Phoenix they do have a dress code but mainly for cuts and colors, however I did have to change my baywatch short once because no tank tops. Swim trunks and slides were fine so go figure. They do have a bouncer that pats you down after a certain hour and they are pretty cool. One even gave me a jersey from his car to cover my tank top, but we are familiar with each other and joke around alot so dont expect that service. Wings are great and fried food as well, I cant remember what else I ate when inebriated but good kitchen. There is a good community feel there and a lot of regulars but you also run into a lot of new peeps all the time. They use a quarter system to set your place in line at the pool table and if I remember correctly its $1 for a game, but keep winning and you dont pay, but they do have some good players so dont expect it. The Karaoke DJ Michael is great and finds songs for us but be sure to tip your Dj. I think they start at 7pm, but im sure its dependent on availability. I went once for live music and I think it was Mexican/Country music but dont quote me on it, I was drinking a couple pitchers of Mich Ultra. The pool tournament started late and once fun but if I remember correctly it was bank 8 and maybe ball in hand but that was a long tome ago and I cant remember. Thd late start was on a school night and the next morning was rough so that was a bummer despite getting pretty far in a double elimination tourney. Overall its a great place to visit. Only cons is that the bartender cuts my juke boxsongs when its slayer or other loud metal bands or turns the volume down when I want it loud. Otherwise its a great place where you can expect a lot of 90s or later hip hop and R&B as well as Country music. I ended up at The Silver Pony almost by accident, and it turned out to be one of those places you don't really plan for, but somehow works out anyway. First impression, it's unapologetically a dive. Dark, a little worn in, and not trying to impress anyone. Give it about five minutes though and it starts to click. The kind of place where people actually talk to each other, bartenders keep things moving, and nobody's putting on a show. Drinks came quick and strong, which is really all I'm asking for in a spot like this. Prices were more than reasonable too. You're not getting anything fancy, but that's not why you're here. There was a mix of stuff going on while I was there. Music, people bouncing between the bar and the pool tables, a few regulars who clearly treat the place like their second living room. It had energy without feeling chaotic, which is a tough balance and they mostly pull it off. Only reason I'm landing at four stars instead of five is because it's definitely not for everyone. It leans hard into that dive bar identity, and depending on the night, it can feel a little rough around the edges. Service was solid, but you can tell it probably swings with the crowd. I've loved this place from day one, and I still love it just as much now. Reading some of the negative reviews honestly makes me wonder if those people have ever stepped foot in a true neighborhood bar before. For the folks complaining that the tall white guy is rude, maybe try following the clearly posted rules first. There's literally a flashing sign that says "ORDER HERE." Yes, at some bars you can order from anywhere along the counter. But when there's a big sign telling you exactly where to go, common sense should kick in. If you're standing randomly at the bar and get redirected, that's not rudeness! that's structure. This place has character/history and I mean real character. It draws a mix of OG regulars who've been here since day one and newer people who just happen to stumble in. The vibe is diverse, unpredictable, and you definitely need to be open-minded. That's part of the magic. Coming from a very gay Mexican who checks plenty of stereotypical boxes. I've always felt welcomed here. The energy is real, the people are real, and you'll probably leave having had a great conversation or a laugh you didn't expect. And let's not forget: cheap beer pitchers, bomb wings, and hands down some of the best pickles you'll ever have. Ignore the negativity. This spot is a gem. A bit out in the boonies, but we had so much fun here at our last visit to Arizona. We all ordered burgers and wow! They were delicious! We also ordered a bunch of deep fried mushrooms for the group and they were delicious and plentiful for us. They had a DJ the night we were there and the place was hopping. I'm extremely disappointed with the service we received at this bar. The tall white guy bartender was overly rude and seemed to be discriminatory. He literally hated us the moment we walked in the door. We tried to get his attention multiple times and he just stared at us... Even with the help of another couple, but he ignored us. To make matters worse, we heard that he works evening shifts, so l'd advise against visiting this place. We were just looking to have a good time with my father and family visiting from out of state and play some pool, and enjoy a few drinks, but the experience was ruined by the bartender's behavior. HIDDEN GEM! This is a cute little bar tucked away on the corner of Dobbins and 7th Ave., I've never been here until today. I asked the bartender for something sweet, and she did not disappoint. I'm not sure what I got, but it's really delicious and tastes like a popsicle! They play pretty good music here. "LOVE THE BARTENDER; SUPER NICE" This bar has pool tables; has plenty of tables low lighting has karaoke and sports playing on the TVS. The bartender can make any drink you can possibly imagine and she is super sweet and is very nice to talk to you! She has great recommendations. They have a breathalyzer here so you don't drink while driving they also have a pretty good bar menu with lots of choices. Would I come back yes I would. I was there the other night and there was this really tall dude, like 6'4. He started this fight with this shorter Mexican dude. It was crazy. They didn't even throw out the tall dude that started it. The shorter dude was just standing there. Was recommend this place by a friend since I was in town. I waited outside because I was told they were at capacity. I saw at least 6 people leave, but no one was allowed in. I saw 2 men enter about 20 minutes later and was told they were "smoking". I then asked what is the capacity number and was told it depends on the manager that is working. I don't think the fire Marshall follows guidelines dependent on what a manager feels is capacity for the night. read more

I've been coming to this place for about 6 years now. It's a great dive bar with pool tables and a great seating area. You'll see people standing, dancing or sitting at the outside patio. They have great prices on drinks and have amazing (crispy) hot wings! Certain nights they have live music but most of the time it's a chill vibe with country music to hip hop music. We have lived in S Phx for well over a decade, and barely (finally) made it into this local watering spot. Its a stand up old bar with locals who have been probably frequenting it since they turned of drinking age. Which tells me we hit a gem! Upon entering inside it feels warm and welcoming comfy, and your greeted by smiling faces and the nice bartender who says hello to all who enter. The patrons are jovial, talking with one another, everyone is in good spirits on NYE. A group of friends are joking, playing pool, and there is a tenderness with each other you only get to appreciate at places like this. It feels like your at a good friends house party. My first venture to the diviest dive bar in south Phoenix was almost what I expected. By and large, not only do I love dive bars, but most often I prefer them to other joints. I do, however, have a problem with establishments who refuse to accommodate those of us who don't walk around with cash. I get it - you also own the ATM... but c'mon.... in the long run you'll get more repeat business because your place is divey AND accepts debit / credit than by being stubborn about it. The service was decent, the beers were exactly what you'd expect in regards to quality and price. There was live music, sadly country, but I was in the minority in regards to music preference in this joint. In regards to the clientele, excellent people watching and they were almost all incredibly friendly. If I had a wallet full of cash, I'd go back for the atmosphere but I kind of take a stand against business owners who think they're out-smarting us with their 'cash-only' policy. read more

If you love Country Western music and wagon wheel chandeliers, I've found the place for you. If not, I've found a place you'll want to avoid. I'm not really a big country music fan. Yea, I grew up watching Hee Haw, Grand Ole Oprey and listening to tons of KNIX with my Grandma. And I'll admit to dating a cowboy during the Garth Brooks era. But country western bars usually push it a bit too far for me. It just feels like most folks are pushing way too hard to be something they want to be, but aren't. The one thing I'll give this place is that I'm guessing a lot of these folks still work the land. It's up near South Mountain, in Phoenix but just down the road from Laveen where farming is still a big part of life. Some of these folks wouldn't know a hoe from a ho, but they just like the music. Or the tight jeans. Or both. It's a neighborhood bar for sure, but it's pretty good sized. Really large bar, 2 pool tables, a stage area for live music and a dance floor surrounded by high top tables that seat about 5. No sawdust on the floor or anything like that. Pretty good mix of folks - aged 25-70, white and Hispanic folks mostly - but what else do you expect at a Cowboy bar? Their live music was pretty good and interacted well w/ the crowd. They also do Karaoke 2x a week (Thurs & Sun) and have pool tournaments. If you've been itching to do a little two step, you'll definitely want to stroll by. read more

Bring it or cash up at the ATM. Tonight, the house band cranks up the country tunes. If there's food, I can't see it from the barstool. The staff is accommodating, They have no choice. :/) They would die without customers. It's a long standing drinking hole. Classy? No. Classic? Oh yeah. There's a outdoor smoking cage (so Arizona), as well. It's a dirt lot to park. What? Were you expecting something else? 3 finger pours. Regulars? Expect 4 fingys! Tonight, everyone local is here. There's skinnys, beauties, chubbies, cuties, sexy Mexi's, cutes, whiteys, & dark persuasions. There are no judgements of those who like and visit this bar. This bar is built for a drinker's comfort. Friday nights are rowdy and full. It's just one of the last of its kind. IPA ? Dunno. Two Taps: Bud & Bud Lite. Most Mexican beers and regular imports and a full bottle bar. The Sil Pony was right up with my expectations, which were low. I knew what I was getting into when I parked my horse, Aurora Oldsmobile a Borry Alice. This is a belly up bar, no frills and a healthy serving of dust. No doubt about it. The beer glasses are tiny. The small pitcher is the play. Set me back $7. If you're looking for a hidden dive bar, you've found it in South Phx. Located near South Mountain at the NE corner of Dobbins and 7th Ave, the Silver Pony looks like a relic. There's actually a place to tie your horse up outside and you WILL see horses there and true vaqueros inside at the bar. The beer signs inside look 15+ years old and the wood paneling on the walls brings you back to a foregone era. The only sign that you're in 2013 is in the jukebox which has modern songs, including recent hits. Weekend nights there's a cover band that can be pretty fun and a dance floor to twirl on. But bring cash- the Pony don't accept plastic! If needed there's an atm with a $2 fee on top of whatever your bank charges. It can be a little rough & tumble. There have been acts of violence here and one night a girl picked a fight with our party because a guy didn't want to dance with her. All of this being said, it's still a unique place and we'll continue to go for the super cheap suds. read more

First time me and my girlfriend came here was a Thursday night. It was a last minute bar stop and it was in the neighborhood. Wasn't too crowed in the parking lot but as soon as we got inside it was a lot more people than expected. No cover charge which is a plus. However; they do not accept credit cards...so you have to use the ATM which cost $3.00 just to take money out. (I could have done that at circle k) The drinks are a bit pricey but I guess because its the only bar in the neighborhood. I order a cranberry and vodka and it was very strong but it was so small && it cost $7!!! I think the bartender ripped us off. There was no music; only karaoke (which was unpleasant). I was dissatisfied with the choices I saw on tap, so he offered to let me see what he had in the back freezer area. Nothing different. Disappointment lingered. Then he wordvomits to me that he usually got beejs back there from girls. Le non. There was nothing that stood out on tap. They only had the usual mainstream "beer" that slightly tastes like beer, but nonetheless will get you drunk. The company you keep will really determine your level of enjoyment. Silver Pony is the epitome of your local country bar, but the crowd doesn't feel that 'country' per se, like the ones at Cave Creek. I really enjoy the band that plays there called Urban Country. The lead singer has an amazing voice that will immediately put you in a good mood. Prices are reasonable, we usually grab a pitcher and shoot a game a pool. They also have an Extreme Hunting arcade shooter. If you are looking to check out some hot cowgirls here, you will likely be disappointed by the selection. Down south of south PHX - The Silver Pony Grill and Cocktails, reminded me of friendliness of the seventies. The Pony has plenty of good "country western" ambiance. And a nice outdoor lounge. My recommendation is that You,* take yourself and your friends to the Pony. right now . Live Band you can Dance with and tunes you can listen to. The Female vocalist, strums her guitar. The Gent who plays the Ivories, sings . So does the Lead guitarist. THE Drummer is powerful and The FrontMan/ Singer and Bassist, is a real pro. Don't cha know. This guy may be the best bass players... I dare say-- in the state.! Check him out. Talented and personable. they are. "WHISKEY BENT" band, deserve a pay Bonus.. (their PA speakers ain't wothy)! But "Wiskey Bent ", IS ! $ Tip the Band. You can afford it. The drink prices are very reasonable. I give the Pony De merrits for : More stalls in the ladies Room. No Table Servers on Saturday night.
