Ok so today I was looking for something different to eat and I found out about this place because of Yelp and saw some good reviews and thought to myself well Let's go and check it out. I like their concept sort of a Chipotle vibe now on the food wise they have limited options so I decided to try the Gyro Bowl everything was good the veggies and sauces that they have are really nice and tasty and it's really fair priced. On top of the great service and the good food I must say the manager of the place wich I didn't get to catch the name unfortunately was always checking on all patrons and even asked about how the meal was and a big plus she gave me a card for a 2x1 meal so I could invite a friend (quite frankly I'll probably use to get me 2 gyro but don't tell anybody) will recommend specially if you want to try something different and fresh. read more

Hubby and I ventured out in the brisk weather to try this new little destination. We are both fans of Greek food and sorely missing our old haunt, Serops, in Baton Rouge. So let's get on to the review! My first impression was positive, although the entry and pathway to the ordering station is awkward. Know that you will go through the dining area to reach the counter, it is not a straight shot. If people are getting up to leave, then you will be maneuvering around them. I watched everyone who walked in pause for moment to get their bearings on where to go next. Maybe adding a second door that lines up better would be an option. Otherwise the place is very clean and inviting. We were greeted promptly and since it was obvious that we were "first timers" the staff was ready to help! I ordered a whole wheat pita with gyro chicken laid on a bed of hummus. I topped it with all sorts of goodies including olives, shredded lettuce, roasted tomatoes, feta and a bit of tzatziki sauce. Hubby got a pita with beef and dressed his very sparingly. He had meat and tzatziki sauce. He liked the flavor but the meat was cold and that did not appeal to him. He asked one of the staff if he could get his meat freshly shaved next time and she said of course. So here is the good, along with areas that could improve. I really enjoyed my pita. It is very simple food and it will be important to dress your choice up with toppings. The hummus was mild and the tzatziki sauce was mild. That being said, combine things to get flavor! The olives were the addition that put my pita over the top. I did find that the chicken was not hot. I will ask for freshly shaved next time. I opted for a bottled water, but noticed that my neighbor ordered water and was given a very small cup. Perhaps giving folks a regular size cup would be the kinder thing to do. As a water drinker, I know that other restaurants in town give you regular cups. You don't want your customers having to get up 3 or 4 times to refill the small glass. Just a suggestion! The surprisingly good thing was an order of Greek fries. Hubby is a fry lover and he adored these. I want to try the garlic green beans in the future. We also tried the rice pudding for dessert and it had great flavor. I will definitely try it again. The food was a healthy choice and very simple. Nice staff and clean environment. read more

It wasn't like many Mediterranean style fast casual restaurants I've experienced, I appreciated that it strongly settled in the obvious Greek category which allowed for a nice menu of traditional Greek options. I didn't actually eat at the establishment so I can't speak on their location specifics. I ordered my food via the Waitr app to be delivered to my hotel. The food came a lot faster than expected delivery time. I ordered a bowl with chicken gyro meat, with garlic cream sauce and Greek dressing sauce. I also topped it with pepperoncinis, pickled onions, feta cheese and oregano. This was fantastic! The spring mix tasted fresh, everything really tasted fresh. The garlic cream sauce wasn't super thick but just the right consistency. The dressing was very tasty. The pickled onions were not over powering. I also appreciated how they actually put plastic ware in my bag. A lot of places tend to over look the small things. I ordered the garlic green beans as well. The green beans were definitely fresh and not from a can or a frozen bag. It was sautéed with fresh garlic. I really enjoyed the beans. This is the chipotle of greek food,and the first greek restaurant of the kind that I have been to. The ingredients are fresh and flavorful and the area as a whole is very clean. I had the bowl,which was great and had many different options to customize it to your liking,and the fries which were slightly too strong tasting of vinegar. Finally stopped by for lunch to go. You can build your own pita or bowl; I decided on a bowl. The inside is nice and clean and there are seats outside too. I had lentils (base) , brown rice (base), tzatziki sauce , green beans and feta cheese. Plus some pita wedges. Everything was really good. You know, rice is usually blah but this rice was probably the best rice I've ever had!! They should offer more sauce for the price- a bowl is $8.99. read more

Great place for lunch! Its like a subway ordering style but with greek food. Lots of options and it all was fresh and delicious. $20 for 2 lunches... which is average price in area. I would suggest they offer a side salad option and take the stems off banana peppers and slice for pitas. read more

Tried The Simple Greek for the first time today, along with my husband. Location was bright on the inside, had plenty of seating and was very clean upon entering. There was a decent amount of people working, all smiling and ready to work. My husband and I both got the bowls to eat. All of the ingredients from the lentils and rice, to the meat and the fresh line of veggies were all delicious. All the veggies looked fresh, and the choice of sauces all looked great as well. I chose the tzatziki sauce and it had a great flavor as well. We also bought piece of the spinach and cheese pie, which was awesome and very fresh tasting! The only reason I took a star off is because of the price and portion sizes. At $9.00 for a bowl, not including a drink or anything, the portions could have been bigger for sure. Although tasty, we both left hungry still, which would keep me from visiting very often. If the prices were lower or portions were upped a bit, this would definitely be a go to place for me because everything tasted terrific! read more

Looking for quick healthy takeout and found the Simple Greek on Yelp. Opted for a bowl and the girl working helped me pick the meat - lemon chicken and said I could split the base so I had greens and yellow rice. Lots of fresh toppings to choose from both hot (sautéed veggies and green beans) and cold (I had chick peas and salad mix of marinated cucumbers and tomatoes. Topped it with a small scoop of hummus and tzatziki and comes with a pita. Lucky me it was fresh out of the oven. I really enjoyed my meal, it was filling and healthy. I had dinner here when I first moved to Mobile - I was looking for something light and healthy, but also fill me up. This is set up chipotle style and you can pick the style. I have a bowl with lettuce and lentils. They were able to give me a lot of veggies and do half gyro meet half gyro style chicken. I highly recommend getting both, they were awesome. I had the pleasure of visiting the Simple Greek for the first time with a group of Yelpers, and I can assure you, it is well worth the trip! Angela, the owner, and her mom Diane, will make you feel right at home. The staff is smiling and friendly, as well as knowledgeable about their cuisine. Try the Greek fries, which come topped with melted feta (even if you don't like feta cheese, this is delicious!) Also, try the Avgolemono soup, which is a delicious blend of chicken, rice and lemon. (Hint- if you get sick and your friends ask if they can bring you anything, request this soup!) The Spanakopita is a savory delight of spinach and feta baked into a light and flaky crust. The Simple Greek is kind of cafeteria style, where you approach the counter, request your desired base (pita or bowl), request your protein (traditional gyro, chicken gyro, grilled steak or grilled chicken), choose your toppings (they all look fresh and delicious so you can't go wrong), choose your sauce, then top with Greek finishes. I enjoyed the pita topped with grilled chicken, creamy garlic sauce, and the village salad, along with other fresh toppings. Be sure to finish your meal with the baklava, or the cheesecake baklava. First - it needs to be said, I am Greek. Well, half-Greek. I know and have made traditional Greek cuisine in my home. Additionally, I have years of restaurant management experience, so when I review a place, I tend to be a more...ruthless grader than most. If you're in a rush - just skip to the bottom below the line of asterisks ***. In short - The Simple Greek is a small chain restaurant. I know with certainty that the baklava is made elsewhere and shipped in, as is probably a lot of the more easily batch manufactured items, like Spanikopita. (The spinach & cheese pie) They have a different business model - where they have no servers; you have to get in a line and place your order and give direction to the people assembling your food, much like you would at Chipotle, Subway or Moe's Southwest Grill. On the one hand, this saves you 15-20% because you're not tipping, saves the restaurant a fair amount of money, too. Unfortunately, they don't really pass those savings on to the customer. Why would they? Most don't even consider these things when they order and pay for their meal. And we probably shouldn't, either. Ordinarily, if I just show up to a place to try it for the first time and they don't have a traditional sit-down service, I go elsewhere. I often enjoy asking the server questions, as the knowledge of the server can tell me if the staff is well-trained. If they're not, it's not beyond me to just make an excuse and leave before I order. Why stick around and help a badly trained restaurant stay in business? I'd rather the good restaurants do well, and the bad ones close down. This place, it needs to be said, is well-managed from where I sat. Simply getting a table visit while there eating just about blew my mind. I would've bet money that no manager would ever be on the floor. A bet I would've lost, at least today. I arrived, meeting two friends. Both seemed to really enjoy the experience and the food. However, one friend was expecting to get more than two olives, asked for more, got two more and she came away feeling like they were being cheap about the olives. The manager did a good job in helping me feel more comfortable eating there. That table visit is invaluable to my experience, as it shows that someone cares what their guests think. As a Greek, I was NOT impressed. There's not much that's Greek about the place. But, they call it the Simple Greek, which means they're not really trying to be Greek, as if you know any Greeks, you'll know there's nothing simple about a Greek! They have some "Greek-ish" food. The baklava, which I would refuse to try, has walnuts. Walnuts aren't horrible, but they use Walnuts because they're a cheaper nut. In my own baklava, I prefer pecans and almonds. They make for a richer flavor. But, my baklava is more expensive than theirs. And, given the volume of sugar in baklava, most people won't even taste the nut. Please know I didn't try their baklava - it may be fantastic. But with Walnuts? I'm not wasting my calories on sugar, walnuts and fillo dough. The biggest insult was their "lamb". It may or may not be lamb. It's compressed meat assembled from who knows what - but it's not lamb, that much I can tell you. If it is part lamb, it's been processed a great deal and no longer resembles anything anyone would call meat. It may taste great, but it looks like crap. Being a Greek who knows what lamb tastes like, I opted to just get the Spanikopita. I knew from the looks of it, it was made in a kitchen commissary by someone who makes it day in, day out, following a proven recipe. Not nearly as good as home-made, but something predictable that I wouldn't be too disappointed in. And it wasn't bad. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but it certainly was better than the crap the Costco sells, and almost as good as the Spanikopita I get from Greek-fest. Not as good as mine, but again, mine would cost a lot more than theirs. So - with all that - *********************************** If you're in a rush, and you just want food in your belly, you could do a lot worse. The staff here is decently trained, the manager does care about your experience and will likely do what she can to make things go your way. But if you're looking for authentic Greek food - this isn't the place. This place is no more authentic Greek food than your average Chinese restaurant is authentic Chinese food. Good value, given how expensive every restaurant is nowadays. Decent food. It all depends on what you're expecting. Hopefully this review will tell you what you need to know before you get there. The only reason I won't eat here again is because I prefer sit-down service. Standing in line and doing the work of the server myself kind of defeats the purpose of dining out for me. Food is decent. Employees are very very nice. The topping selection is sparse and bland though unfortunately :/ I'm used to these types of Greek restaurants having tons of different toppings. Also I asked for a cup to get a water with my to go order and they gave me a tiny plastic cup? Barely fits any water and certainly can't fit a lid? Not exactly ideal for a to go order lol. I'd eat here again only because mobile doesn't have a better option for build your own gyro. This place has great, hot food that is the same quality no matter what time you go. It gets a little backed up at lunch time wit the be insane amounts of walk ins and online orders. The have a Saturday special for $5 pitas. Overall The Simple Greek is a great place for people like me that haven't experienced a lot of traditional Greek fare. Definitely sign up for the rewards system to get points that will sii get you a free bowl or pita. I eat here at least 3 times a week and still have only earned 2 free pitas.
