Had a wonderful experience at Mediterranean Sandwich company. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the two dishes we got were excellent. We started with the Sampler bowl. It was excellent with humus, grape leaves, plenty of pita, tomato cucumber salad and tzatziki sauce. We also got a deli soup gyro that they were making fresh right in front of you the proper way on a rotisserie, which is why we chose that meat. Oh was this a surprise in an unassuming shopping center! We thought that it was going to be a typical gyro shop, but it was so much more! The humus and pita were delicious. Olive oil drizzled over the pita wedges and seasoned with Za'atar which made this Lebanese girl happy! We almost licked the bowl clean! My husband ordered the Tua wrap with a side of carbonara orzo and he couldn't stop talking about how amazing the orzo was. I loved the mixed grill and tomato spinach orzo. The onion marmalade is delicious! My daughter had the Dixie chicken and the lentils over basmati rice. The lentils were wonderful. Great flavors and great food. The food I got was great. However, I wonder if anyone else has this problem??? Whenever I order extra sides 99% of the time, I don't get them even though I was charged and I paid for them. Tonight it was only $2.25. I know I sound like a mean grouchy old lady. But I'm tired of it. I always tip 20%. Of course when I complain, they offer to give it to me if I drive back for it. The food is always great and the service is usually very fast and friendly. Today was an exception to the service standard. I came in, placed a decent sized to go order, 5 sandwiches. It took them around 30 minutes to get me my food, while people who ordered after me were done eating while I was still waiting. Only explanation I received was " their orders had less meat" They turned out 8-9 orders before the finally brought me my food. I got in late and it was one of the few options close by for pickup and looked like a chain deli-type place so I settled for it. I was so pleasantly surprised that the food actually knocked my socks off. I got the Redneck Chicken Shawarma with the sun-dried tomato basil orzo and a Greek salad, my girlfriend got the classic gyro with a Bulgarian salad and both were off the charts. A great option to almost all other restaurants in the county b/c of its cuisine and the good quality of the food. I do like how they add a little southern AL touch to Middle Eastern dishes, though I'm the rare exception here who likes other regional sausages more than Conecuh (which they add to 2-3 menu items). They are reasonably quick usually, except for the one time when nobody was in front and one worker looked at me through the window while smoking (finally, I had to step into the kitchen for help). The decor and seating are what you might expect for shopping strip, but it's not meant to be more than that. I'll definitely go back. read more
