All the male workers I encountered were complete assholes. They acted like they were doing me a favor by answering my questions about ski boots and snowboarding bindings. The two ladies working at the front desk were really nice and helpful thought. The products being sold have a pretty big up charge too so I wouldn't bother buying anything. On a ski trip part of my binding harness broke and I had never had something like that happen. I came here and they took my skis and 10 minutes later he came back out with them fixed! Mr. Jim at the Syracuse/Dewitt location not only helped us find a pair of racing skis and new boots for my 10 year old son, but explained to him in depth and detail the differences between his new racing gear and the old gear including fit and feel, stiffness, etc. Mr. Jim is a racing coach himself, and my son absolutely loved his visit and left super motivated. This organization is truly lucky to have an expert who takes their time with the client, and obviously loves what they do. The 2 hour drive was worth it for us...Climb to Glory! read more

I spent over $1K on all new snowboarding equipment. Staff was only interested in selling the newest porducts. 8 days later I called and asked if I could return one item I realized I bought the wrong bindings and they said "no" it was past 7 days. Asked to speak to a manager he said the same thing with an arrogant attitude even after I explained how much money I spent and had no idea of the return policy. I could have gotten everything on Amazon for cheaper AND made the return painlessly after 90 days of buying it even using it. I would not to have even had to leave my house! Dispite this I always try to shop locally. Many people point to online shopping as to why mom and pop shops are becoming a thing of the past. The Internet is a big reason. Another reason is garbage return policys and arragant employees. I hope they enjoy the money I spent because they will never get another penny from me. read more

Got scammed by this place. I haven't XC skied in years and my parents told me my skis were broken. (They were in storage at their house). OK, I think, let me buy new skis. I tell the salesperson I have 20+ year old ski boots and ask him if the bindings on the new skis in the shop will work with those boots. The guy says yes and I buy the skis. I go home and find out my old skis just need a tiny bit of epoxy. So I return the skis I bought the day before. I enter the store and am rudely spoken to by an older gentleman. I tell him I am there to get my old skis epoxied and to return the new ones. The new skis were still wrapped in plastic and hadnt been used. After huffing angrily over my lack of receipt (he found me in the computer, I literally had been in there yesterday), I am told I can't return my skis for a refund. I can only get store credit because it was a "sale item". Well, apparently the whole store was on sale per a sign out front. When I bought the skis, no one advised me of the fact that the skis (and apparently everything else in the place) was final sale. I wouldn't have bought squat in that place if I knew that. Im now stuck with $200 in store credit. Oh by the way, FYI if you lose your receipt, then you lose the store credit. They supposedly don't keep track of who is issued store credit and who isnt??!! I have them fixing my skis and the dumb kids in the ski repair section in the back seemed rude, lazy, and incompetent. They refused to acknowledge me until I asked for someone to help me. I can almost bet you they are going to sucker me by "accidentally" breaking my 20 year old skis, then offer to make it right by handing over those new skis as a consolation prize. I then will be forced into buying new boots that fit the new skis and giving them even more money ugh. Avoid this place at all costs. They're rude, shady, and not worth the headache. read more

Downright poor customer service. They have many youngster employees out on the floor, yet they were all sitting around and I had to seek help myself (I say this as a fellow youngster, and look, I get the appeal of being on your phone, but come on!!!). Once I did track down one employee to help me find a ski helmet, he just ditched me in the midst of me trying the recommended product on! I ended up going with another helmet that I eventually found on my own. The Ski Company is lucky that I was in absolute need of purchasing a helmet that day, otherwise I would've left the store as quickly as that employee retreated to sitting on his phone! Unsurprisingly, this in-person customer service translates to over the phone, too. I had asked to speak with a specific employee who was tuning my skis, and was met with a "uh I don't think he's here today," only to find out later that he was indeed there after I called back and was placed on hold AGAIN. I've worked retail jobs and this is a huge no no and quite frankly just lazy! They do seem to have a large selection of discounted skis, though. Plus the giro helmet I purchased was pretty cheap and what I was looking for! read more

They have a really diverse selection for ski and snowboard equipment, and reasonable prices. Definitely worthwhile to stop by if you're in the area and in the market for some gear. The staff, Erin for snowboarding and Jason for skiing, were extremely nice/helpful and provided us with great advice on equipment that would fit our needs. Props to Erin specifically for providing so much insight on boards/bindings/boots, over the course of like 30min! Awesome! I would have given 5 stars if their trade-in policy was more clear (for example, you can only trade in a board and bindings if you buy a board and bindings from them). Admittedly, that is mentioned on their website, but it's in the fine print on one of the pages, so I didn't realize that until I went in today. read more

Going to the Ski Company's Ski Show. Don't believe this sign below! On Friday 10/18 (the first night of the show) I bought some ski gear at the NYS Fairgrounds. When I arrived at the checkout to pay, I showed Ski Company staff a discounted price for the exact same item on Amazon. I was then told Amazon was one of a handful of sites that were excluded from the Ski Company's guarantee. Scam artists. Doesn't even deserve 1 star, but I have to give them one to write this review. I went in to buy new skis and ended up finding a pair that I liked. I checked online and found them for $150 less dollars, so the old cranky guy reluctantly price matched them. His little scam sidekick told me that it would cost $85 to mount the bindings I already owned on these new skis because since they price matched them, "I'm buying them from someone else so they have more liability". When you buy skis from them, it costs $30 and $85 when the skis are bought from another company I asked a few times for clarification because I was still purchasing the skis from them, not another company. Makes absolutely no sense, but in the moment I just went with it despite my confusion because I was getting annoyed. Cleary they do not understand how a transaction works, probably because they learned from the dumb, lazy, geriatric tool they call their boss. After buying the skis and the $85 fee to mount my bindings, I decided in the store that I did not want to go through with the mounting and wanted to get refunded. They both looked at me and I received "fine your choice" and "ok get back in line then". Obviously they were mad that I did not fall for their scam. I will never shop here again and I don't recommend anyone else does. read more

I paid for me and my husband snowboards to have hot waxed and sharpened and pick them up and nothing was done they have gouges in them that weren't there before and you can tell that they were not sharpened or wax this piece is fraud and I would never go there ever to have your boards or skis fixed read more

This place is, and always has been, awful. I genuinely wish there was another company in the greater Syracuse area to deal with. I've been snowboarding for 30 years and when I started there were a handful of winter sports stores, some even snowboard specific. They've since all gone by the wayside and we're stuck with these clowns. I prefer to keep my money in local businesses, if at all possible. I've given these ding dongs chance after chance. I've had years of negative experiences in store as well as at their yearly "sale" that charges full price for previous years models (and then they give you grief when you show them a cheaper price for them to match, per THEIR policy), but my most recent takes the cake. I brought my board in for their "state of the art" Montana tune. I watched the videos online. Seems like a cool process. It's a machine. How could they screw it up? Well, let me tell you, they find a way. Large swaths of my board feel like a cheese grater was run over it. If they did put any wax on my board there certainly isn't any sign of it. The base is dryer than... well, something unsavory. I'm now officially done with this place. I'll spend the money (online woo) to buy my own tuning outfit and do it myself. Look at the pics. Took my skis in yesterday to get them sharpened and waxed (came with purchase of skis/boots and bindings there). I was told they wouldn't do that service (which they had promised when I bought them) because manufacturer no longer warranties the bindings (I wasn't asking for binding service). First, I bought them about five years ago - not old. Second, who warranties anything after five years? A sign of very poor service. I will drive as far as I need to in order to buy future skis, etc. from another store. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Would give this place negative stars if it was an option. We went to The Ski Company looking for new poles, skis, boots, a helmet, and some other gear for one of us, and were also looking for some expert advice on either retrofitting a current ski boot or buying a new pair of ski boots to work with a prosthesis for the other of us. The store was packed with very few employees helping customers. When we finally were able to connect with someone to help with boot fitting, the man advised us that it was "IMPOSSIBLE" to retrofit these older boots, and that basically "NOTHING" was on the market which would accommodate someone with a prosthesis, and that they had "never" worked with anyone in their store who wore a prosthesis. He pulled a boot off the wall and advised my partner to try it on with his prosthesis. The boot went on without any trouble, but then was literally stuck on so badly that it took multiple people, a table saw, and a Dremel tool to get the prosthesis out of the boot. This was a humiliating experience trying to remove and not damage a $6500+ custom prosthesis which this person needs in order to walk, and the only way the manager agreed to remove it was if WE BOUGHT THE DESTROYED PAIR OF BOOTS which had to be cut open in order to remove this critical prosthetic limb. The other employees were incredibly sorry and said we shouldn't have to pay for the boots, but the manager insisted. He joked we were the "proud new owners of one right boot", and said he'd "work with us on the price" by giving us 20% off........ There was no way we could leave the store with his prosthesis unless we agreed to pay for the destroyed boots. Doug the manager was phenomenally discriminatory and beyond insensitive, and has made it so this store is in complete violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. We went to their store looking for their expert guidance, simply put on the boot THEY recommended, and left discriminated against, humiliated, and $260 poorer with a pair of unusable ski boots. We will NEVER give ANY business to The Ski Company EVER AGAIN. Massive shout out to FULLSEND in Canandaigua who today willingly and creatively offered to help retrofit the older boots so that they work perfectly with the prosthesis. See, it can be done. Forget The Ski Company and their shoddy customer service and make the trip to FULLSEND instead. read more

The ski shop here awful. It's managed horribly. They give you an estimate of when your work will be done, you wait twice as long, call them and they can't find your equipment, then they tell you they'll get right to it. Call the next day, repeat the process. Show up and they'll tell you they are all done, the skis wax job was awful. If they were done at all. My son's brake fell off his bindings due to a missing screw. How can we trust that the skis had their safety check. Had to drive an hour back and all they did was stick a screw in the brake, left the wax exactly as is. We had to pay have them rewaxed at the ski resort. Then my friend takes her new skis in and they mount the bindings backwards and don't even correctly flush mount them. If you take your skis here, you are honestly a fool. The repair counter staff is unprofessional, the quality of work us subpar and they don't stand by their work. All they would do for my friend is drill more holes in her skis. This is inexcusable. I know you read a lot of negative reviews online and most are unreasonable, we both tried really hard to be patient and just wanted a fair follow up to our problems. All we feel that we got was treated like we were the problem. The attitude was how could we be upset with the brake falling off and the bindings being mounted backwards. Buy your skis online and take them to a ski resort to have them mounted. Update: Just found out the owners moved out of the State and the Managers are fully in charge. The one here in Syracuse obviously isn't able to handle the task. read more

Decided to hold off on the purchase until this season, and thought I'd give them another try. Wrong....was greeted at the door and that was it. Was never approached by any employees (who were seemingly standing around) as I looked at new skis. That's ok, I'm looking at spending more than $1000, and I'm positive that Bikes & Boards in New Hartford will gladly take it. I was trying to eliminate the drive but now I'm happy to. Over the years, i've done a lot of business with the Ski Company and am always satisfied. After moving back into the area last year, we outfitted the whole family with skis. This year we purchased new skis again for our growing kids. Always great prices and the staff are super helpful at the Syracuse store. A real measure of how a company rates is how they handle things when they go wrong: I purchased a snowboard and bindings at the summer fairgrounds sale. Unfortunately there was an error and my boots did not fit the bindings. I ended up visiting the Syracuse store and changed out the bindings for a different set, which I later was unhappy with(not made for my style board). I emailed the Ski Company and the next business day I got a call from one of their managers, Dave. He said he needed to make this right and would like to have the whole board and bindings returned for a full refund. I showed up to the Syracuse store and returned the board. Next I met with the lead snowboard sales guy, Josh, who spent over an hour with me to ensure I got the right board and bindings I wanted. As my size had to be delivered from another store, Josh even brought them down to the Tully store, where I live, so I could pick them up easily. Josh is an energetic, positive at all times, and super motivated employee. While at the Tully store, I also brought in one of my other boards that had a broken binding. A young man named Skyler worked on getting a warranty replacement. When that fell through, he cannabalized some old equipment and riveted a new ratchet to my binding, saving me a ton of money and time. Much like Josh, Skyler is a super motivated guy that wants to keep customers happy - and he certainly did with me. I enjoy just talking "boarding" with both of them as well. It may be the only game in town anymore, but the Ski Company does not rest on those laurels. Their prices are aggressively low, better than online sites in many cases, and their people are top notch. read more

I was warned by my fellow ski patrolmen that Ski Company's customer service had disintegrated since they became a virtual monopoly in the Syracuse-Rochester area. I should have listened. Despite no bargains to be had at their "final markdown" sale, I relented and was waiting in the checkout line in the Syracuse store with $800 worth of skis and bindings. The manager had moved from watching television, his usual position, and was at the register giving an older gentleman a bad time for wanting to exchange a gift certificate, from what I could gather. He was rude, abrasive, arrogant and demonstrated no customer service skills whatsoever. After offering no solution for the older man who left with the issue unresolved, it was my turn. As a member of the patrol in CNY, we get a discount on purchases at the Ski Company. When I asked, he immediately copped an attitude and demanded to see my patrol membership card. Unfortunately, I had not printed this year's card and showed him last year's when he immediately started in on me. So you don't believe me, I asked. I was in the process of pulling up my membership online when he continued on, ranting about how he needed printed proof to show why he was going to give me a 10% discount. Wow, all that grief for a 10% discount on merchandise that is 20% overpriced to start with. This guy is obnoxious and should be nowhere near customers. We're done here, I said and walked out. It took me 20 minutes online to save $240 on the same ski and binding package. Don't waste your time with this place. Use them to check out equipment, try on boots, verify ski length, then go online to EVO.com, skiessentials.com, powder7.com or any other online retailer and make your purchase. If this place intends to stay in business, they should consider as a first step ridding themselves of this pushy, arrogant jackass. I will never buy from them again and will be sure the rest of the ski patrol at my mountain doesn't either. read more

I had the clear plastic cover on a fisher toe binding pop off which I recovered and put back on. not realizing I lost the din number scale went to the Syracuse store spoke to Jim took my name and number had new din scale in one day no charge. now thats what I call excellent customer service. read more

I was not impressed with The Ski Company in Syracuse. We went there to get some ski boots and have some work done on our skis. Luckily I went back to the used boots with the young lady helping us. She pulled out a pair of used boots for $200. I told her I was not looking to pay that much and she told me they didn't have any in my size for cheaper, as I stood there looking at them. I pointed two pair out that she reluctantly pulled out for me. Needless to say, I paid $50 and they work just fine. We dropped off a snowboard to have some epoxy work, a pair of skis to have bindings adjusted and a brand new pair of skis to have bindings put on. They told me a week to a week and a half. After no call two weeks later (and having rented equipment in the meantime) I called to check on them. First they couldn't find them. When they did, there was nothing done on them yet. I was promised they would be done by the end of the day. Still no call the next day so I called again. Still not touched, but they did get them done that day. First time I take them out, I realize they have installed my bindings backwards and they were not flush to my skis. The ski shop I was at recommended I ask for new skis, as drilling more holes would not be the best idea. I called and explained. When I brought them in, they apologized and went to look for a solution. Since he had never heard of the brand of skis I had, he couldn't give me new ones. I was told they would have to do some research and looking around. Or they could fix the bindings, drilling 7 more holes in each ski... since I live an hour away and would like to use my skis, I did agree to this as long as they refund the $85 they charged me (which is over twice as much as the other ski shops, I later found out). So now my brand new skis have extra holes, two of which you can see in each ski!!! Needless to say, I am not real happy with the outcome. read more

After reading mixed reviews about this store on Yelp and Google Reviews, I decided to visit anyway to gauge the end-of-season sales. I'm planning on upgrading my entire snowboard setup, but had no intentions on doing it all today. Skylar spent at least 30 minutes with me discussing what I was looking for, what I researched, and what my current options are. He's a nice and knowledgeable guy, and in no way pushy. There was an impeccable sale going on, where I picked up $300 MSRP boots for $55, granted they were 2015-2016 seasons. There were certain boards and bindings that I had in mind that they didn't have in stock, so Skylar called every Ski Company location to try and locate one for me. My experience today was definitely 5 stars, and will be coming back in the near future. read more

The older guys that work here are borderline creepy. The guy named Joe was bizarre and almost argumentative. I'm spending money on equipment here, I could really do with out the personality nonsense. Even if he was knowledgeable about the product, his odd demeanor made it impossible to take him seriously. I have no idea why this person is employed here..Maybe he is the owner or related to the owner. If not, I can't imagine he has hung onto this job. The other older guy(wears denim button down shirts) working here was somewhat odd too. The younger guy in the snowboarding area was good..Helpful and not weird like the other two. read more
