I defintely would come back here on a weekday evening. It reminds me of one of those black and white films, where it's a quiet rainy night and there is just you and one other couple in the far corner. I can't say the same for the weekend, which I'm sure is popping, people fighting for seats and service. Their beer selection isn't the grandest, but that's okay, beside they're better known for the cocktails. I am a great fan of the RAIN DROP. This place has to be one of the coolest in Detroit. Its like an inside out bar. Great people watching... cool music... quick bartenders... and drinks (like real drinks without holding back on the alcohol). I had an Irish Coffee. My boyfriend had a shot of something and another drink as well. He liked both. In the meanwhile, we just enjoyed ourselves. This place makes a basic evening out feel like vacation. Plus, the location, The Belt, is just such an amazing surrounding to begin with. I wonder what they will do in the winter... This beautiful tucked away oasis is located right next to the "Z" Lot right downtown. The entire alley way is a gem with graffitied walls and hanging lights that make hanging out in an alley, just seem right but the true treasure is the outdoor bar located right in the heart if it all. The Skip gives you exactly what you want by serving up a crafty drink menu, mixed with an outdoor-downtown feel you just cannot escape! And the drink list is no joke, not only are there unique cocktails ($8) and beers at the ready ($3-$9), there are also... ALCOHOLIC SLUSHIES ($7/8) that are served out of ALCOHOLIC SLUSHY MACHINES! And let me tell you, these slushies are also no joke, seriously mine had more than a few kicks to it. I had The Jungle Bird that must have been an Arnold Palmer hybrid, part slushy/part straight-up whiskey... And it was awesome (perks of adulting). Two of those and I would be done, like for the night. Or until I ate and then walked around for a bit only to wind up right back at The Skip where I started :) Luckily there's room to relax "inside", that's just a covered area underneath the parking structure, where tables and booths are located, but if there's no room it's cool to hang around the bar too! I'm not too sure what the rules are regarding how close you need to be to the bar if you have a drink. I've seen people stay fairly close by, then again I've also seen people take their drinks and admire the graffiti, but I'll be sure to find out next time! Because there will be a next time! So if you haven't already... Come out and have a drink... In an alley... With a few strangers, but in the coolest way imaginable. Very cool place! Perfect for summers in Detroit- all outdoor, with so many seating options that even though it was super crowded we were able to get a table right away. Since it's in The Belt, you're guaranteed shade. I would have given five stars except I tried several drinks and didn't really like any of them. I am normally not a fan of frozen drinks, but took a chance on them at the Skip and I'm glad I did. Not overly sugary and plenty strong. So refreshing, delicious and worth the money. Extremely disappointed. I have been looking forward to going to this pop up Christmas bar for awhile. I decided to go on a Wednesday night, hoping it would not be crowded. We got there around 10:30PM. There was a line of maybe 10 people outside waiting to enter the bar. The inside of the bar was not crowded, and we could all clearly see through the windows 2 big tables were open. They refused to let us in, even though several people left the bar as we were standing in the cold. We decided to leave after waiting outside for 20 minuets. Tried a couple of bars in Detroit and this one had the best atmosphere and good music. The bartender was very willing to suggest drinks or make one that is to your preference, which actually still tasted good. On Wednesday night is was pretty empty and easy to hang out, drink and talk. You walk into this place and it instantly smells like Santa's mouth- milk and cookies mah-fackahs. These little bar menus are printed on Christmas cards so perfect, Christ himself would tip 50% on a single cocktail (which you should too as heavenly saints). As you walk in and see the big ol' Christmas wreaths, you begin to think, not even your mother could design such a beautiful circle. The candle light bar, and the 90's style ginormous color wheel bulbs really bring the tradition to the alcohol. They have Santa mugs, holiday theme sweaters, and along with the warm hearted greetings you have felt within the two feet you've stepped into the bar, you can also get a hot lil cocktail boy that really makes your tummy rumble. There are limited seats, so stick yourself with a reservation this holiday season and get your drink on. The baby eggynog mugs, and the real whipped cream really sells itself. Get a boozy Suzie drink here and take an Uber home. Not many places can compare to this winter wonderland of alcoholism but hey. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither were Christmas cocktails. Weren't offering a cocktail menu, servers were rude, tried pushing two tables together so we could all sit together and again we're told we couldn't do that....moments later 5 people come in, push those tables together and sit down. Moments after that 3 more people join their party and not a word was said to them. This place is a joke, the drinks were bad, but the staff was WORSE! There are other unique places in Detroit. If I could give them no stars I would. Went down there at 2:30, they say "we open in half hour" so we come back in half hour. Hipster dude behind bar says "we're not opening for half hour" we say "you said that a half hour ago", he says "we're not open I can't help you". I'm sure they won't lose business because of my one review but they lost ours. Apparently even though they say they open at 3:00 they really just open when they want AND they're rude. It hurts me to even give this place one star. They deserve no stars. I was SO excited to experience the miracle at Skip. We walked in and were told to leave because we had 7 people. And not in a nice way. They said too many for a sit down place. All we wanted was one Christmas drink in a Santa mug. Bah Humbug Miracle. The wife and I were out for our anniversary dinner at Chartreuse and our server recommended that we go here for drinks. I am sooo glad we took her advice! First of all, the service was excellent. They didn't mind answering questions and giving us information about their specialty cocktails. Although this place is very hipster/trendy, it had a neighborhood bar vibe. Sitting at the bar was an amazing experience. I am glad we Ubered because the drinks were so good we kept ordering more! We will definitely be back! read more
