We ordered a double Wimpy burger and a smoked chicken sandwich with a side of spicy mac salad. The owner took our order, and knowing my husband's love for a good burger, he custom-made us a deluxe double smash and a double Gouda smash with bacon to try! All of the burgers were incredibly impressive. They grind the meat in-house, which you can absolutely taste in how juicy the smash burgers are. If I had to pick my personal favorite out of the three, the Gouda takes first place, followed by the double Wimpy, and then the deluxe double. Every single burger was unique and delicious. I didn't ask to confirm, but I'm pretty sure the deluxe featured a perfect slice of heirloom tomato. The smoked chicken sandwich was also fantastic--the chicken was tossed with BBQ sauce, making it incredibly juicy, and it came topped with two crispy onion rings on a soft hoagie bun. Needless to say, we had to take half of our chicken sandwich and mac salad home. We seriously can't wait to go back and try their brisket. What a gem for West Salem!

I'm not a huge barbecue person because I prefer my meals to have a little more variety than just meat, but I did enjoy the brisket and the pork belly. The sides were just okay for me. By the time my uncle and I made it over to 'The Yard' Mr. Tukufu had already sold most of his food, it had apparently been a very good day for him, understandably so. Nevertheless, we ordered some leg quarters and he kindly obliged despite appearing to be worn out from the long day. When we came back around to pick up the food I was shocked at the size and weight of the take out bag that was given to us. Mr. Tukufu had certainly hooked us up and when we got back to the hotel we had an absolute feast. I am confident in saying this was the best soul food I have ever had. You could tell it was made with love and sincerity. Thank you to Mr. Tukufu for being so generous, it was not lost on us. We look forward to seeing him again the next time we are in Salem. The chicken was moist and tender with a perfect smoky aroma and flavor. Their BBQ sauce was just right and the sandwich had just the right amount - a flavor boost for the perfect chicken but not overpowering nor was the sandwich swimming in it. Just right. The bun was fresh and soft and was ideal. That fruit punch was so good I could have drank a gallon. It made the sandwich a perfect match. I realize I keep using the word 'perfect' in this review. That's not an accident. On top of the wonderful food and drink and speedy service was the Down Home friendliness of the folks there. We learned that the inspiration comes from their Arkansas roots and among great Southern BBQ, the BBQ I've had in Arkansas stood out from the rest, and honestly Whuttle's would make even great Arkansas BBQ seem average by comparison.
