This place had potential but ends up being more frustrating than anything. On the surface it looks like a nice luxury building with decent amenities, a good location, and solid common areas, but once you actually live here you realize it is more about appearance than experience. The biggest issue is how aggressively everything gets monetized and how the rent is just the starting point. After that it feels like every possible thing is turned into a separate charge and nothing is simple or transparent. It is just constant add ons that make you wonder how many different ways they can slice the same bill. The on site staff are generally fine and do what they can, but they are clearly stuck operating inside a system they do not control, and most of the frustration is not with them but with the corporate structure behind the scenes approving all of this. There are also ongoing building issues that never fully go away, which adds to the frustration. There are three elevators and it feels like I can count on one hand the number of days all three have actually been working at the same time, which is ridiculous for a building of this size. There is also a door on the third floor that leads to the garage that has been broken for years, it is extremely heavy, does not open properly, and is a real inconvenience when carrying things in and out. I reported it several times and was told it needed to be escalated but nothing ever changed, which feels like a pattern. At the end of the day it feels less like renting an apartment and more like a subscription service where the price quietly increases every month for reasons that are never really explained, and while it is not the worst place I have lived, it is definitely one of the more frustrating ones. read more

I greatly enjoyed living at the Sovereign. I lived there for 2.5 years and only moved because I left Houston. I also paid what I consider to be a high price. Pros: The location is very hard to beat. It is a quiet neighborhood but close to all the major entertainment districts and downtown. It is also a small complex compared to some of the other upscale complexes meaning there is much less competition for the community areas. The gym, pool, and theater were hardly ever busy. The repair/maintenance team were top notch. It was also very easy to receive package, dry-cleaning, or food deliveries. Cons: Both move-in and move-out were stressful times and no one at the complex was very helpful and acted like I was putting them out by moving into or out of the building. With several exceptions, the staff as a whole was not the friendliest. The parking was also not ideal. It usually took me between 3-5 minutes to get out of the garage (although free valet was available). Finally, the coffee machine is always broken, which is very frustrating to many of the residents. I waffled between 3 and 4 stars. The pros far outweigh the cons, but it is very expensive. With that price tag comes high expectations that were not always met. But overall, I enjoyed my time there and would choose the Sovereign again if given the opportunity. read more

I understand that my experience at this property may be different from others' experiences, but I don't fully understand the negative reviews. I always felt safe and taken care of at this property, especially by the concierge team members and the valet team members. The grounds, pool, gym, and hallways were always clean. My packages always got to me on time, and the leasing office associates were always professional. Also, the apartment units and spa showers were beautiful. I rented an apartment right when the establishment opened. I loved the location. It's close to multiple highways for easy access. I love the amentieis floor (8th floor). As previously mentioned though, they have added a fee. I can understand charging for the space but the fees seem ridiculously steep. Anyway, the 8th floor, where all the amenities are located, is very nicely decorated. I love the view of the skyline from up there. It's pretty awesome at night. They have a few exercise classes up there during the week and on Saturday morning. It might make it a little easier and less boring to work out while looking at the downtown skyline. There are some coffee machines up there. Those machines are also in the lobby along with cookies everyday. The pool area is quite spectacular. There's a lot of seating, televisions, BBQ grills, palm trees, a space to grow plants, and general all around amazingness. They added an arm band system that allows you to only bring 2 guests with you to the pool area. Upon move out I got hit with a ridiculous bill (a few hundred dollars). They wanted me to pay for the CONCRETE ON THE PATIO TO BE REPOURED. I lived there for one lease term and sat on the patio maybe five times during that time. What could have possibly happened during that time that would necessitate redoing the concrete on the balcony that could be attributed to the fault of the resident? REQUEST A WALK THROUGH when you move out and take pictures of every room, even outside, to avoid trumped up charges like this. I love that there is a dog park in the front of the building. It makes it easier when I don't feel like going to a crowded dog park like the new one at Buffalo Bayou Park. However, you will have those pet owners who do not pick up after their dogs. I've even seen dog poop in the stairwell. My MAJOR FAULT is with the quality of the interior of my apartment. I had to put in multiple maintenance requests. It seemed like the builders were rushing. Paint on the knobs of the bathroom cabinet, bathroom drawer crooked, loose shower head (that eventually led to a leak and wet drywall), scuff marks in the tub, chip in the wall on the outside of my apartment just underneat the plaque for my apartment number, board falling off the bathroom cabinet. All pretty superficial but when you pile them on it kind of sours your perspective. I even had a gas leak stemming from the oven. I came in one day to find maintenance underneath my stove. That was a little scary but I was thankful that building maintenance caught that before anything bad happened. The internal maintenance team is very friendly and quick to respond. I would have given the Windsor staff (including maintenance and valet) 5 stars were this when I first moved in. The concierge staff used to be friendly willing to help with any and everything. Most of the staff knows me by my name. However, toward the end of my stay they started hiring lazy concierege. One guy let up two people without calling me first. They are supposed to at least call or check the list before sending someone up to your apartment. He also asked me to go get the cart while he got my packages. WHAT? Every other concierge has gone out to get the cart and then loaded the packages. I take them up and most often bring the cart down right away. The least you could do is go get it when I have packages in the room. That's why we have 24/7 staff and pay a premium for security. The concierge manager, at the time, was not friendly. My guests remarked that he's rude. I think my expectations were high since I gave my deposit and all that before the building was completely finished and I only saw what it was all projected to look like and heard the marketing spiel. Reality didn't quite live up to my expectations. I probably could have paid less somewhere else with similar or better quality on the apartment interior. It's not a dump by any means! But I don't think the quality (of the apartment interiors - at least mine) is as high as advertised. read more

We moved in January. We love living here. We were in a 4 bd over priced townhouse nearby with a landlord that was extremely slow to get anything repaired. I love the location, the amenities and especially the staff. Jennifer B. the manager doesn't play around and gets things done. I had a separate personal issue and she gave it her 150%. My "situation" was handled confidentially and immediately. Yes ALL of these new apartment buildings are overpriced and not well built. They do come out quickly to make repairs. From the conceirges to valet to management to maintenance they have the right formula for extraordinary service. This high rise makes us feel at home and on vacation each and every day. I've been living at The Sovereign for almost two months and have really enjoyed it so far. It's in a great location of the city that's close to almost everything you could ever need. There are multiple grocery stores like Whole Foods, Kroger, and Trader Joe's all within a few miles as well as restaurants all around! The apartment complex itself is quite nice (since it's less than 6 months old) and the amenities are excellent. The common areas offer a very open place to hang out with sweeping views of the city. You get a great look of downtown! The pool area is similar to a resort/hotel style pool with lots of lounging areas. Probably not the best pool for doing some laps though... The only reason why I can't give it 5 stars for now is because there is still construction going on in/around the building. Also, if you plan on having friends/family over, the parking situation is not very good. There is a valet service for residents but no non-residents are allowed to park in the garage. There is only a limited amount of street parking around the building. Other than that, the staff, amenities, and service is excellent. Update 1/26/15: I am still enjoying living at the Sovereign but as time passes, I realize my apartment isn't as well built as I'd hoped. It may be due to the fact that they built and opened the complex so quickly but I've had some issues with my kitchen island, electrical outlets, and chipping paint. All my issues have been fixed quickly by the maintenance staff but they really shouldn't be happening in the first place since everything is "new". The dry wall also seems to be extremely soft. I don't intentionally hit the wall but I've had occasions where I barely bump the wall/corners and a small dent will be made. I wish I had taken a deeper look into the quality of the build of the apartment before signing the lease. It's easy to overlook the quality of the build when it looks like everything is very nice and new. The staff is still excellent and you can't beat the location but make sure you're okay with the build of the apartment before leasing. Update 3/29/15: A couple of things that might not be stated out right is that the common area outside on the eighth floor closes after 11pm. Also, if you'd like to reserve any of the common areas, there is a fee that is charged unfortunately. Still a great complex to live in with excellent service/staff. Update 7/20/15: All of my previous statements have not changed but I am upping it one star because for the price in the area, you're getting the best bang for you buck for sure. read more

Recently living at their sister property I was able to easily transfer to the new property with no issues or delays. The team working there are great! From management to the leasing staff they all work to help every resident and future resident. Working with Stephen Webster, the leasing agent, made the whole process extremely stress free and easy. The amenities here are amazing! The pool is one of the greatest features here! They also host some amazing events every month for residents! Haven't even been able to see this place! Stopped by around noon to gather information regarding their one bedrooms. I was greeting at the front, but was told that the office was closed at the moment but would reopen at 3pm. I agreed to return at 3 and arrange my schedule. I return around 3:15 and am rudely greeted by a new man who tells me the office is closed in a way that I should've already been aware of this. Remind you this is a Wednesday during regular office hours. I tell him of my situation and he goes to the back to see if anyone is available to help me. Someone in the back tells him that she will be right with me to wait in the lobby. I sit there and wait for 30 minutes. No one ever bothered to acknowledge that I even existed after that! I've been to pretty much every complex in the Houston area and this the least respect I've been given. Thanks for wasting my day! read more

This is a beautiful place with lots of amenities. However it is super expensive and they nickel & dime you to death with charges for this and that. Perhaps the most frustrating is the total "don't care" attitude from the management staff. Seems like once your in, they just don't care anymore and no amount of "yes sir & yes ma'am" can hide their attitude. They should take lessons from their valets (they're super). Oh, if you choose to leave, then the smiles drop. No more greetings and if you have business to discuss, well, you can wait in the lobby until they're finished chatting in the back. I moved into this building on December 6th. The location is amazing I partly picked it for that reason but should have given it more thought. I gave it 3 starts because it is 5 STAR LOCATION, 5 STAR SERVICE but a 2 STAR BUILDING. The Amenities floor is great and I would give that a 5 star as well but when I moved in they said renting out the dining areas or theatre area etc. were free and it was open 24 hours, however, as I predicted, but even sooner than I predicted, they have already started charging to reserve any of those things ($150/Hr which is absurd!) and I do not believe they are available 24 hours anymore. Parking is definitely an issue. I live on the 3rd floor and my unit is almost right across the door you use to enter the parking garage, however, they reserved the 3rd floor for tenants living on floors 19-24 (that haven't even signed a lease yet mind you) so I have to look at the 30 empty spaces on the 3rd floor everyday, yet park in my assigned spot on the 4th floor. Something that doesn't make much sense to me. I have also had MULTIPLE issues with my specific unit. I don't blame Windsor communities for the fault of the builders but I do feel like they should have had all of these things fixed before leasing the units. In my opinion, it's a very poorly built building being run by a high class/ 5 star company and group of people, so you are getting top notch service but it's a crappy building. Honestly, top notch service! Jennifer that manages the building has been excellent in helping make sure all of the issues I've had get solved. The maintenance guys have done their best to work with what they have. The concierge and valet staff are an amazing group of people. Staff wise I couldn't be happier. I was told upon move in that the walls were built with concrete planks in them so you wouldn't hear much noise from neighbors, however, I can hear EVERY step my above neighbor takes. Anyway, I am paying WAY more money for rent than I should be (than anyone should be for that matter) and expected it to just be an amazing experience and it has kind of been the opposite. read more

The day I went to sign a lease at Hanover Post Oak and by fate had a bad experience with the front concierge is the same day I decided to check out The Sovereign in person. Stephen instantly made me feel welcome and was patient enough to show me 3 different floor plans 3 separate times with a measuring tape and all for furniture placement. The building is top notch in regards to finishes and cleanliness and the staff couldn't be more professional and personal. I honestly didn't think I would use the valet when I signed the lease but have found them to be an added luxury I now would be hard pressed to live without. I just can't say enough good things about this place or the people who make it feel like home!!! read more

I lived there. Given the new housing options in and around Houston, you should look elsewhere before paying the fairly exorbitant rent at the Sovereign. First, they claim to be a high end apartment complex. While the amenities are great, the quality of construction is not very good. For example, several drawers in my kitchen cabinets fell off after 6 months since they are made of fiberboard and not very durable. Pay attention to details. Look at the shower head. You find better ones at a Red Roof. Second, you will definitely hear your neighbors which means walls between the units are not very soundproof. Third, management staff (Jennifer) is not very good. They put on a good show while you are looking as a potential renter, but after you sign a lease, they disappear and could not care less. They use to have coffee makers on the 1st and 8th floors. Now they only have them on the 8th and they are broken the majority of the time. Hello management...where are you? They penny and dime you for everything. Like rent plus a monthly maintenance fee. Really? Finally, I have lived in many high end apartments in different cities and I must say that many of the people living at the Sovereign are just plain weird. Just look around when you visit and you will witness the definition of eccentric. For example, some residents let their pets urinate in the elevators assuming "the help" will clean it up.
