HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! This is the first review I have ever made. I feel compelled to warn people, not waste their hard earned money on a faulty massage. My boyfriend and I paid $300 for a 80 minute massage. After the 60 minutes, it was over. Than we were both in more pain than when we went in. The therapist seemed like they were in a rush, my boyfriend kept getting nudged by the other lady. It was nothing like the description, it consists of towels and pain. We are both sore in places that felt completely fine before walking in. Both of us have received numerous messages in the past, hands down this was the worst one. We left feeling taken advantage of and completely unsatisfied. In short, you would be better stepping in front of a bus. Less pain and cheaper. read more

I highly do not recommend for haircuts. I took my 18 year old niece in to get curtain bangs. The lady completely just gave her straight across bangs and also gave her layers, my niece did not ask for. She didn't know what she was doing. I wish she would have just admitted that she wasn't sure how to do them so we could go to someone that could. She completely missed the mark for the simple curtain bangs. It was 50 dollars for haircut. It is incredibly annoying, that she did a haircut that she was unsure about. We came in with a picture and videos. I feel she knew she missed the mark as well and should have offered some kind of discount because the job was horrible. Something I could have done at home!! For $75 that was a pretty disappointing massage. It was the equivalent of my 3 year old niece rubbing sun tan oil on me... I should have been more assertive about it but it felt uncomfortable to say something. Every other massage I've had the masseuse would check in and ask how the pressure was. Costco has a deal where you buy 2 $75.00 Gift certs for $120. This is the best way to go to get a deal as this place is quite pricy. I've been 3 times. All for 80 minute anti-stress massage. The first 2 times I saw Autumn and she was fantastic, quite and thorough. I really left feeling fully relieved of all my stresses and tension. I give her 5 stars. The last time I came I had a tall girl who was gothic named Jessica. Her boots made a ton of noise and she kept bumping me and moving around messing with towels and gave me a 2 star massage. I like deep tissue she said could do it but its like she was tired and kept switching it up. I was pretty disappointed as the massage costs $140. I left feeling more stressed then id started. I was really let down with my experience at the Spa. I planned two pedicures one for my mother and one for my mom to celebrate mothers day. On the phone I had told the receptionist that one of us was getting a Citrus Glow (30 min service) and one of us was getting a Pedi Tini (45 min service). We got to the Spa at 1:15 which our appointment was at and we waited for 15 minutes and finally got sat down in the pedicure tubs. It was 1:30 and we had just sat down to finally get our pedicures. We started at 1:30 and were done drying by 1:50. The service was rushed and not exactly what we had in mind as relaxing. I was really disapointed because if the Spa was running behind they should not cut the services short that we were receiving. Just a little knowledge of what we had experienced. All of the services have been lackluster and not worth the money (and as others have noted, they are extremely overpriced!) with the exception of the massages I receive from Katherine. She is amazing and the best massage therapist I have ever encountered. I've been here many times and for the most part they never disappoint. I enjoy coming in to get a pedicure with my daughter who is younger and I love how they allow her to share a foot tub with me and don't charge me full price but still treat her as if she's getting the full package, she loves it as well. I've also got a few massages that were the best I've had in Humboldt. I've given gift certificates to my partner and he's never had a problem when using them. As far as not giving a full 5 stars there had been a couple times that I've gone and had to wait even tho I had an appointment or they were out of the ingredients for the bathe I paid for. Katherine at The Spa at Personal Choice transformed me into a knot-free, nearly over-relaxed, lavender infused person. I loved my experience with her as my massage therapist. She educated me on the circumstances of physical stress as she relieved shoulder and neck tensions. The facility is relaxing and vintage, my only suggestion is the outside noise level. The older wooden floors do not provide much for insulation against excessive foot "stomping" and chatter; otherwise a magical experience! read more

My husband and I made an appointment for us both to get pedicures. The details on their website made the pedicure sound more like a spa/massage/scrub experience with a pedicure at the end. We were seated quickly and the girls who worked on us were nice but that's the extent of my praise. The pedicure took 25 minutes and all together we paid 80.00. For pedicures you sit on a long bench and place your feet in a basin of water with no jets, just stagnant water. Every step of my "spa" experience was done so quickly I feel like there wasn't anytime to enjoy the moment. They rubbed the scrub on, washed it off immediately. Rubbed the lotion enough for it to soak in and that was it. No massaging was done to my feet or legs. The pedicure was mediocre, reminded me of something I could have done at home. My nails were left uneven and my husbands toenails were left long and ragged looking. The paint job was okay nothing special. I was told my nails should be dry so I went to put my sandal on and smudged the paint of course. We left feeling ripped off. Bottom line, as far as pedicures go there are cheaper places who do a more thorough job. read more

Got a microdermabrasion and my skin was all red after words. She was super tough on it especially during extractions. Hurt my chubby little cheeks. I really wanted to like this place- getting a massage or facial on a day off is one of my favorite things to do, and I am willing to spend a little more (as you will have to do here) to get a quality experience. After getting poor service twice in a row, I decided not to come here anymore, and then I got a gift certificate for 3 massages as a present, and ALL THREE times I went I was reminded why this place is sub-par: 1. I have never had a service that started on time. If I have an hour long massage appointment for 10 AM, and you don't take me into the room until 10:05 and don't start the massage until 10:15- then you better end massage at 11:15!! Paying 80 bucks for a 45 minute massage is MORE than a rip off. This has literally happened every time I have been here. 2. When I told the front desk girl about this happening, she literally did not respond. No apology, no "we'll try harder next time", nothing. She looked at me as though I was inconveniencing her. 3. I called and personally spoke with the manager before my 3rd and final massage on the gift certificate and told her about the ongoing issue with starting late and finishing on time or early. She admitted it was a problem and said she would block 15 minutes of time on the masseuse's schedule before I got there to ensure it started on time (there's a novel idea). When I was still sitting in the waiting room 10 minutes after my service was supposed to start, I flagged down the manager to tell her, at which point she told me that there was a new girl working at the front desk and somebody on their staff had a miscarriage and that is why they were running behind. ....Umm WHAT? What a disturbing and overly personal piece of information to share as an excuse for poor service at your establishment. 4. Once you're finally in the massage room and trying to relax, you're lucky if you get a quality massage therapist. For the prices being charged, I would expect much better service. I got 2 of my 3 massages from a very nice but young girl who I felt was barely massaging me- even after I asked for deep tissue. 5. It is very loud in the hallway and you can hear every footstep and conversation going on outside the room. Honestly the only bright side I can mention about this place is one of the estheticians, (from Scotland I think?) did a FABULOUS job on a facial I received, and even though the service was not the full hour I paid for, the time I did receive left my skin feeling clear and rejuvenated. I hate bashing a local business like that but I feel like when you're paying so much for a luxury item, you want to feel like you're getting everything you paid for- and this place is one to avoid in my opinion! read more

Decided I needed a facial. I walked into the Spa during a lunch break and was greeted by two smiling faces. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get in since I didn't have an appointment, but it was no problem. I saw Nicole and she was super friendly and super professional. She even recommended a few products based on the skin complaints I was having. It was pretty pricey, but nothing outrageous. Spas are just generally expensive places. Called for walk in pedicure was accommodated. The Young woman who did ny pedi was very nice and friendly and ready to just go to work. The other women walking around were very uptight and not very friendly. One of them even glared at my teenage daughter who was with me. I noticed that the woman next to me had water and another woman later was offered water. I wasn't. The pedi was just ok. My toenails are uneven and their are parts that are not polished. The cuticles were not trimmed very well and when my toes were being buffed it was kinda painful. I'm not sure if that's normal but I will probably not go back for this service. It cost me $38 dollars not including tip. My overall thought is they are not very friendly and the work is mediocre. read more

I had a gift certificate for a spa package. I booked my appointment and showed up 10 min early to check in (as I would do with any appointment to make sure I am not late). They took me back to the spa area where I relaxed until they could take me back. The lady came and got me only minutes later and took me in for my body scrub and then massage (which I enjoyed). When that was all done she then informed that she took me early and the nail lady was running 20 min late and that I could hang out or go walk around town. By the time the nail lady got me I had lost that "relaxed" feeling. She then did a quick manicure (I was supposed to get a citrus scrub, which she didn't do) then was moved over to the pedicure station. She did the correct pedicure however I was rushed out with oily feet and a messed up toe nail because she put my flip flops on right after so they could get the next set of people in. I was planning on re-booking the same package for my mother and I for the following week but after being rushed out and not feeling very relaxed I opted to choose another spa. I will not be going back there it was not how I expected to be treated. read more

We are locals and chose Spa at Personal Choice for a high end experience. Really it was nothing special. Rachel gave an awesome facial. I had to move my car in between treatments which was fine, but my manicurist was irritated that I was throwing her schedule off. And we were shuffled through the mani/pedi area. It wasn't really relaxing after my facial. I was disappointed with my mani/pedi as my cuticles were ignored and my feet walked away feeling rough still. It was more like a polish change. Little things that make a top notch experience, such as offering me a drink, just were lacking. When someone is spending two hundred dollars for a two and a half hour experience, it should be special. For the money, it just is not worth it, the customer service is lacking and you can get better mani/pedis at the cheap walk in places! First time I came her got the worst massage of my life and followed by a 20 minute bath soak. She started the bath and the water was literally scaulding hot so she had to drain it and restart. The process took like 20 minutes... She should have had it waiting for me anywasy before I even got in there. The best part is, I paid for a 1 hour massage and she did 30 minutes!!! I have been here 2 or 3 times. When I went a few years ago a lady named Andrea did my brows, brazilian, and facial. She was really good. Did my brows exactly how I wanted, and was professioanl and polite. The last time I went Nicole did my facial. She did a good job, but as others have said it's the customer service that is lacking. Nicole seemed bothered by having to do the facial and annoyed when I wouldn't buy their in house benzoy peroxide cleanser. Went here for the first time a week ago to get a pedicure with my Aunt. We got the aromatherapy pedicure and it was amazing. The gals that helped us were friendly and made you feel at home. I left with some amazing feeling and looking feets! It took about an hour and a half to get the whole treatment. You can sit next to each other (they have a three-person pedicure area, and two of the seats are together). They offer coffee, tea, or water while you relax. It's a nice environment. I received a gift certificate to this spa. The facial was excellent. Ask for Farrah. She is highly knowledgeable and creates a relaxing atmosphere. My skin felt tighter and truly rejuvenated. Unfortunately I wasted the other half of my gift certificate on a mani and pedi. I should have listened to the other reviews that were posted on Yelp. I have had much better nail services at the kind you find in the middle of a strip mall. The manicurist did not groom my cuticles, file my nails straightly or use a pumice scrub. Plus, after my pedi I had a full view of their "cleaning" procedures. They did not scrub down the tub and then later had someone in my same chair. Very funny, friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I can tell her the basics of what I want, and she always knows what to do to make my hair look and feel great. I really love the atmosphere and ambiance of The Spa At Personal Choice. It is right next to the bay and has huge windows so that you can partake in the beauty. My personal favorite is my hair dresser Dori. She is an absolutely amazing and beautiful person as well as incredibly talented. She even found a brush for me that is amazing on wet hair that tangles a lot. Also I use harsh bleach on my hair and no one believes it because of the products she has recommended, it keeps my hair healthy and shiny. I am incredibly picky on how I have my bangs cut and she was the only one out of at least 6 people, who was able to do it to perfection. I had some serious doubts that I would be able to find anyone to do my hair in Eureka but I found Dori and I tell everyone about her :D read more
