The ambiance was calming and aesthetic. Today, this location has been transformed into a corporate shell of what it used to be. Instead of wandering aimlessly from aisle to aisle looking for a good book, customers find themselves turning in circles as the aisles and section are laid out in an impossible to navigate configuration. If you are lucky enough to find what you are looking for, the prices are outrageous. Where the cafe was once a haven for students and remote workers, now only stale pastries and lukewarm coffee stand. The only thing this B&N has going for it is the service. Employees are always kind and helpful, even if the answer is always, "It's not in stock, but we can order it."

They have a little of everything for everyone! Most of the "Christian Bookstores" in Middle Tennessee have been or are denominationaly driven, but Christian Publishers is not. Which is refreshing. I like to read many different authors and have enjoyed being able to find just about everything I've wanted here, and at a fair price and many times cheaper than Amazon! The shelves are filled with a large selection of books, all organized by genre. There's a section for stationery, puzzles, totes, and other fun things as well! The dedicated children's section has the most whimsical little door where you may catch grown-ups slipping through from time to time.... While you're there you may see one of the many shop dogs they have as well! Parnassus is very involved in the community. They host events like author talks and book clubs. My…read morehusband and I braved the Hillsboro Pike traffic on a Sunday afternoon and ventured to Parnassus for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It was busy but not packed when we arrived, and it looked like the staff was setting up for an event. Books are arranged by genre, with newer titles near the front of the store. I found a few novels I've been eyeing, and the prices are fair. I could have easily spent a few hours browsing ... as easily as I could have spent a small fortune on books. It is worth noting that my husband was disappointed at the graphic novel selection (it was only one small end cap), and sadly he left empty-handed. Even still, this is a great spot to pick out a new novel, and a great chance to support an independent bookseller!
