Beef & Lamb Chicken Gyro Combo Platter Special

Well-priced, fast, tasty Mediterranean food, what more could I ask for? The mixed gyro platter was good, the meat was real meat not the mystery particle board meat some places use. Because it is lower fat it is a bit more dry but I wanted something healthy and this was just right. It's a basic little hole in the wall place; nothing really to speak of in terms of ambiance or service but the food was good. J.Ja

The place is turkish and the lady upfront was great.. she gave me recommendations and even warned me most people did not like the Yogurt- but Turkish people love it. I went ahead and ordered it. It was salty- so i understand her warning, but it tasted like a salty Kumis (colombian ). The first taste shocked me, I wasn't prepared but as I drank more I loved it. I had the falafel and it was scrumptious.. perfect texture and taste. the bread and salad were good too.. my girl has the meet which she also liked i loved the hot sauce

The Vegan Gyro Sandwich on Turkish bread

I had this place before in Troy under a different name I believe. My review is based solely on their vegan offerings here as I haven't tried anything else. The vegan food here is not very wowing. It lacks flavor and I feel is overpriced. The Turkish bread is the best thing about the gyro, which is completely empty. There was one thin slice of seitan and a piece of lettuce and tomato. I ordered with baba ganoush, and white and hot sauce as well but did not taste any hot sauce or any baba ganoush. I saw it on there, but it was flavorless. I also think it would be worth the money if it came with fries, not potato chips.... I would probably never order from here again unless the prices went way down for the vegan gyro or unless it came with fries and not chips. Or maybe offer pita chips and hummus as the side. Not worth it in my opinion. I'm sure their specialty is lamb or meat so just want to stress this is a VEGAN review only. Don't let it stop you from trying their kebab meat offerings because I bet those are absolutely delish if seasoned.

Discovered a great gyro place a couple of blocks from the Hilton Albany called The Spinning Gyro. I literally was going to a pizza joint that was across the street and decided...I rather have a gyro! The place is very clean and well decorated with traditional paintings and objects. I was greeted by Enes, he was friendly, welcoming and seemed like he was genuinely interested in doing business with me. I looked over the menu which has a variety of delicious looking items. He said if I had any question, feel free to ask. I ended up choosing a beef and lamb gyro along with a chicken gyro and mozzarella sticks. While I waited, Enes offered me a cup of traditional tea. For whatever you order you are given a great quantity of food that is delicious and flavorful. Even the mozzarella sticks came with a red sauce that had a nice kick to it. After ordering I was offered a traditional tea while I waited. The service was fast and efficient and I plan to go back to try other items they have. I highly recommend you give The Spinning Gyro a try. Take care

Was looking for something quick near a hotel post conference prior to heading to the airport and ended up here based on Yelp ratings. The place was packed upon arrival with lots of take out orders being placed and about half the tables occupied with people dining in. It was a bit loud when trying to place my order so I think I passed on some topping options that I would have liked to have included. As such, my gyro was a little plain tasting even though I did order the hot sauce. There were plenty of 'regulars' picking up orders so this is definitely a local favorite. I would def swing by here again but may order online to avoid any confusion due to the busy atmosphere.

Just came from greyhound and needed to catch a bus. Rly good food, and good amount too. Pickles are homemade.

    Spinach & Feta Burek

Got the spinach and feta burek and the kofte kabob platter and beef and lamb gyro wrap (neither picture because we scarfed em down too quickly). I loved the beef and lamb gyro wrap and would definitely get that again! Would probably not get the kofte kabob platter again though. One because the gyro was way better than the kabob and two because the platter came with rice and fries, but no sauce. I think if they started serving sauces with the platters, it would really up the level of the dishes as plain dry white rice and fries are just a waste in my opinion.

This was a yummy spot in downtown Albany. The prices are incredibly reasonable, and the meat salad ratio is definitely skewed towards the meat. The chicken was incredibly well, seasoned and cooked to perfection. Despite being in a pita, I definitely recommend getting a fork as it does overflow. I called and placed an order for takeout, and the person who answered the phone was incredibly sweet and my food was ready when I arrived 10 minutes later.

I can't describe how good the food was here. Everything was mouth watering. Came to grab a quick meal, ended up becoming one of my favorites. The ambiance is very minimal with different paintings around the wall and couple of small tables to sit around. The quality of the food is overwhelmingly delicious. If someone asked me to eat here everyday, I would have no problem. The service was great too. I got a kofte kabab sandwich with extra sauce and it was really good. I recommend getting extra sauce with it to enhance the taste even better. The bread was crispy, the kebab inside was very juicy and packing full of flavors. Highly recommend it to anyone trying something new!!!

Mmmm delicious. The cigar rolls were so good we ordered another one. It comes with five rolls and a side of tahini. Crispy and fluffy with feta. The falafel comes halved and was crispy and delicious. Everyone pretty much tried everyone's dish because you just had to. I got the chicken shish. It came with a generous amount of char grilled juicy chicken chunks on a flat pita with a generous portion of yellow rice and a side salad. Dinner mate got the braised lamb shank and the other got the braised short ribs. They both came with generous sides. The asparagus was nice and tender. The short ribs just melted in my mouth. The chicken kavourma came fancy and just bursted with flavor with lots of chicken and vegetables. I didn't get to try the lamb because it got gobbled down so fast. The strawberry mimosa was delicious too. A must try in that row of restaurants on Madison. Traveling within about 5 minutes on the way to visit a good friend, and it happened to be right around lunch time, the opportunity finally came. It's a casual place, lots of 2 and 4 top tables, but what caught my eye when we went in was the cooler full of amazing side options. Then you look up and there's a beautiful oven and a dough station. This is looking great. We sat and ordered lamb kebab and doner kebab. A couple minutes later, a large (~11x17?) wooden tray appeared with a piping hot lavash bread and a plate of dill yogurt sauce. If the meal had stopped there, I would have been a happy camper. We had just had a few pieces when the kebab arrived, each with a pepper, tomato, some red cabbage, and onion. Both meats were authentic and delicious. My favorite way to eat my doner was with a bit of the bread, a bit of the dill sauce, some onion and cabbage, and a bunch of meat - a mini gyro, if you will. We took away about 1/3 of the generous portions and ordered a large mixed plate (all 10 of the sides) and baklava to take to our friend. It's a bit of a drive for us, but any time we're anywhere close, we're going to be back for sit down (if it's mealtime) or takeaway if it's not. I highly recommend you do the same.

The place feels much more modern and inviting now. Our family especially enjoys the beyti kebab, the güveç, and their pide. I haven't tried the pizza yet, but since their pide is very good, I imagine the pizza would also be solid. For me though, the real highlight at Alibaba is the mezze. In Turkish cuisine, grilled meats and kebabs are almost always enjoyed with a variety of mezze. They might technically be sides, but they're a big part of the whole experience. These days there are several Turkish kebab places in the area, but none of them offer a wide selection of fresh, house-made mezze like Alibaba does. At many places you're lucky if you find one or two options, often just a basic ezme. At Alibaba you'll find around ten different mezze and each one tastes distinct and freshly made. Every time I tell myself I'll just take a little... and somehow I end up filling a big mezze plate. Honestly, even when we grill at home, our motivation is picking up mezze from Alibaba to go with it. I'm not sure if it gets the credit it deserves, but don't skip the mezze here -- you'd be missing out. In fact, start with the mezze and figure out the rest later :))
