Their space is clean with wood floors. There seemed to be just as much clothing items as there were footwear. Since a few employees were present, we were assisted immediately. Our worker seemed new, but efficient and eager to please. We came to find a comfortable walking shoe for my dad and luckily found something in the Hoka brand that we hoped would work. The Alaska Walking Store does not give cash refunds FYI. Most shoes are at least $99, so take your time. Luckily, you ARE able to make exchanges at any of their locations (2, currently).

They…read morewatched me on a treadmill, evaluated my feet, determined whether I needed inserts, and helped me find my first pair of Altras. I couldn't have been happier. Fast forward to fall 2026. I'm retired now and no longer run, but after more than 300 miles of running and walking, my Altras were worn out. I wanted another pair for walking and hiking because I love the zero-drop design and wide toe box. I explained exactly what I was looking for, but the employee helping me abruptly told me these were running shoes and essentially couldn't help me because I wasn't a runner. The interaction left me feeling dismissed. I ended up ordering two pairs of Altras online instead, and they've now carried me for more than 500 miles of walking and hiking. It's disappointing because my first experience at Skinny Raven was outstanding. I wish the same level of service had been extended to someone who simply wanted quality running shoes for walking.

Upon entry, an awesome table with fishing paraphernalia, which was great to see since I've been tying flies to get prepped for the season. We were browsing but the moment we were in the footwear section, there was someone there to assist with sizes. Excellent selection of workwear for women, plenty of Carhartt's and Dovetail clothes with sizes from 0-24 that I was able to see. A helpful gentleman mentioned that if my size wasn't on the rack, they'd be happy to check a small supply in the back and also their downtown store. That's was great to know, since I forgot about the downtown location. They have a couple of dressing rooms for trying on items prior to purchase. Although we didn't find boots for my husband, I did pick up some Dovetail work pants and overalls that are not only functional, but attractive too. Everyday clothes men's, women & children...blue collar work clothing, high vis, sportsman wear, boots & shoes and a nice selection of fishing gear to boot! The guy working there was sweet and got to chatting with me while I walked around and picked some things out to try on. In the end I got a cute dress, an artsy Alaska sticker for my nalgene, and an Alaskan local brand tunic hoodie. Such great finds in this random corner store near the 5th St Mall and Nordstrom. They offer hemming on pants here and all kinds of deals on jeans, too. If I lived closer I'd definitely be here all the time!

I was told by my coworkers I should try the trendy Hoka since I'm on my feet for 13 hours. I have bilateral deformities in my feet and finding shoes that don't cause blisters in these areas is very challenging. For $160, I was optimistic.... but after one day if wearing my feet were in agony. I put them back in the box with a plan to return in my next free day. In the interim I lost the receipt. Thankfully since they have a record if all my purchases, I was able to get a full refund without any problems.
