Update: Just went in today 10/2024 to make another rifle purchase and they were great! Got an amazing deal on a S&W on sale and they were super helpful. The process of buying a firearm is painful anywhere but I didn't feel rushed and was patient during the checkout. My 1st vist was during Covid and the shop was busy but the staff helped me take my blue card test, pass it and helped me decide to purchase my S&W Shield 2.0. I returned after recieving my Blue card and went home Happy. The price was fair and I returned to by more ammo and a gun safe. Highy recommend. read more

If zero stars was an option, I'd pick it. I'm a RSO and armorer at two other ranges and the amount of firearms from there I've had to fix or remount is more than ten. They charge an arm and a leg to install something simple and do it incorrectly. They don't know what they're doing. read more

Consider this before reading this review: I am a member of the range and have never done and FFL transfer or purchased anything through this GS other than ammo and targets a few times. It's an obvious choice why I chose to become a member of the range as it's a beautiful and has all of the things you'd want a range to have. The service seems to be why there are so many bad reviews and some of them I can understand. Here's why: 1. Generally, they seemed to be understaffed in the front of house at all times. Gun purchases are never quick and usually an employee tends to be tied up for some time before a transaction is finished. This creates a situation where you could end up waiting for a bit or leaves room for incoming customers to feel ignored upon entry 2. It doesn't ever really seem like they are in the business of delighting customers or care if you buy anything at all, which is surprising considering you'd generally want to extend great customer service to potential buyers and the high end clientele that are members of the overall preserve. Most of the folks that work front of house tend to have a "meh" attitude it seems. What that stems from, not sure, but don't expect to have the red carpet rolled out for you. Expect your interaction to be very transactional. I told a few different employees that I was in the market for a 45 caliber, specifically a 1911 and not one offered to walk me through what the store had or ask any other qualifying questions. I ended up buying elsewhere as a result 3. This is personal opinion, but the store has too much inventory in it for my liking. It makes the place feel very crowded and it doesn't flow well so it's hard to navigate on your own. 4. Lastly, if you're not considering becoming a member of the range, this one doesn't pertain to you, but I wish the Range Safety Officers kept their political views to themselves and just did their jobs. While supervising the range, I often hear about how they feel about the latest things in the news, political figures, etc and I go to the range to escape those things. I went in for the first time today to pick up a Vortex Venom red dot sight. I was very impressed. From the moment I walked in the staff was friendly and helpful and took care of my needs immediately. I also briefly spoke with their on-site armorer who was also very knowledgable, friendly and helpful. I have been in several times and have NEVER been met with a hard sell, or any sort of disrespectful staff. The store is quite large in comparison to other local shops and has a HUGE selection of firearms, optics and accessories; from VERY expensive and exquisite to more affordable rifles, shotguns and handguns. They have a couple full racks of AR parts if you're interested in building your own, which I will certainly take advantage of. I live nearby and kick myself for not having gone in there sooner. The prices are quite good and they have the cheapest ammo out of any of the other local shops I have been to. They are even cheaper than most online stores. The cost for my Vortex Venom was on part with all of the online stores and in some cases $20 cheaper than buying online. I really could have spent a couple hours just browsing everything they had and drooling over some of the rifles they had on display. I purchased a fishing rod that I had to return. The prices was $274.99. $70.00 was taken out for restocking fee. To add insult to injury there was no breakdown or explanation. Keep in mind this is a lousy fishing rod. There is a 14 percent restocking fee on firearms. For the life of me, I cannot understand why a fishing rod cost me about 26 percent to restock. In any event, filing a complaint with the better business bureau and the attorney generals office. Very sad that companies do things like this, and who ever owns the company whether at the individual leverl or corporate level should be ashamed of themselves. read more

Never going to do business again with this shop. I purchased fishing rod online and thinking I would get a notification with shipping label in day or two. I was wrong. I had to wait about a week still no notice so I wrote email asked when they are shipping my item. Next day they sent me a tracking # with USPS. I went online and it said waiting for the item to be dropped off. So I waited few more days and still status showed waiting for item. So I knew these guys just printed the label and made it look like its ready for shipping but either they are lazy or didn't have the fishing rod I purchased in stock. I took a screen shot of the USPS site and emailed them again saying when are you going to drop off the item? from there on they never responded back to my email. I emailed them again and again. After few days I got tired of it so I asked for refund and cancel the purchase. Of course no response. I check the USPS label on the site and it showed label canceled but yet no response from the shop yet. so I had to call my card company to dispute the charge. TOTALLY POOR COMMUNICATION. Thank you for a great first experience on a shooting range! The staff was great, very patient, super knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend learning the basics here, then get back to the spa! I think I should mention: I am not a member, this was my first time at Preserve. There is an air of quiet seriousness in the Sporting Shoppe, which is completely appropriate for a gun and weapon educator and retailer. if I could put a zero out of 5 starts I would no respect for young gun owners stood at the counter looking at firearms and was never approached by a salesman. No greeting by anyone when I entered the store or the 30 mins I was in the store but the gentleman behind me wearing a suit was greeted properly. I was looking for the Eotech G45 magnifier and this was the only place online that had it in stock. I had seen some bad reviews but I went ahead and ordered anyway. Very soon they printed a label and then I was suspicious they just printed the label without it being in stock because of another review. The next day USPS said it was in transit and 2 days later I had it on my rifle. During this process I asked for a shipping update, and Chris on the shipping floor was very helpful. Went in to purchase a bolt action and was greeted by a really nice older gentleman. Told him what I was looking for and he helped me find the rifle and bring it to the register. Took all of 10 minutes. That's when things turned ugly! The older gentleman turned me over to a young guy at the register who started to ring me out. The purchase wouldn't ring up in the register so the guy walked off without a word. 10 minutes later he comes back and tries again to no luck. He walks off again with no word to me. Half hour later he comes back and says the rifle was sold online but they only received a deposit and that if I wanted the rifle it was mine. I told him I wanted it and he tried ringing me out again . After an hour longer of trying to ring me out without a word said to me ,I tell him I'll take another one.I'm pretty sure you should pull a sold rifle from the showroom floor. I pick one with no scope so I tell him the scope I want and I walk back to the register. A half hour goes by and he's still not back at the register! I find him installing the scope and he says to me" I'm just playing with it" . Now mind you I can't pick the gun up for 8 days so they have plenty of time to install the scope. I finally get him to cash me out and he tells me to come back in 8 days to pick it up. The last thing I ask is if the scope box and owners manual will be in the rifle box when I pick it up and he assures me that it will.I come back after the 8 days and they can't find my paperwork. Four days goes by and I call to ask if I can pick it up and I'm told yes. I stop in to pick up and I walk up to the register and say that I'm here to pick up my rifle. The reaction was as if I was bothering them. I was asked very rudely if someone had called me . They finally bring me the rifle and I buy 5 boxes of ammo and a Preserve shirt. I really regret buying the shirt!While cashing out I try to make small talk about the mounted turkey and if it was shot at the preserve and I'm answered with a short "no" and that's it. Not one trophy on the walls there were taken by anyone involved with the shoppe , they were all purchased. The place isn't real . Just for show. Sold guns still out on showroom floor so the place appears to have more in stock. It's geared towards wealthy clients and fancy shotguns that no real hunter would take into the woods. On top of that the ammo is a third more expensive than anywhere else. Finally I get home to zero the rifle and guess what happens next? NO SCOPE BOX or MANUAL! The absolute worst gun buying experience I have ever had! I travel for trophy hunts and purchase thousands of rounds of ammo every year from gun shops around the country . I will never step foot in that place again. I have never dealt with such a shit show in my life. The owner really needs to fire all the young guys working in there. Besides the older gentleman the rest of the staff just stands around talking to each other and buddies visiting the store. Very unprofessional ! Let me preface this review by saying that I am not affiliated or employed with "The Sporting Shoppe" or any owners or employees. That being said; I'm not sure what all these bunk reviews are about, but I'm sure they are coming from opposing retailers and their "crews". The pictures speak for themselves! The Sporting Shoppe has an absolutely ridiculous amount of merchandise in their two floors of showroom space. Firearms and knives are just the beginning; clothing, bags, footwear, you name it and they have it all! Even some amazing stuff that I have yet to see anywhere else! For example a set of bowties that were custom made with different pheasant and other bird feathers, simply mind-blowing! My experience with the sales staff was about average as far as firearm retailers service during the Covid-19 pandemic. The showroom floor was absolutely mobbed with people shouting questions and requests; in general it was Bedlam (and the same as all others I visited) A retailer in Exeter was definitely more hands-on and all about answering questions; but myself and my friend were the only two people in the shop and it's minuscule in comparison to TSS. Another retailer in Warwick which was mentioned in some of the obviously targeted reviews couldn't even take the time to answer a question about a shotgun and I'm a veteran as well, so don't expect instant respect and kowtowing just because you enlisted, it's 2020 brah; cancel culture is the ****! (sarcasm) Finally the third out of a total of four retailers I contacted was in NK/Exeter and I only spoke with them briefly over the phone but they took the cake as far as customer service! In closing I just want to say that it seems spaces for reviews can be used to give negative thoughts that may or may not be found in reality about all sorts of retail establishments. Rather than use your wit to insult and degrade competitors (maybe?!), you should take the time to document the actual interaction. To me The Sporting Shoppe has been excellent in every way every time I have visited. Sure they may get busy when everyone is freaking out about hordes of poor, starved, urban-dwellers who are going to descend on the suburbs and rural parts of our state in a whirlwind of looting and devastation. Take a step back and realize that the service you receive in a time of social upheaval may NOT be the service you get when you stroll in on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Good luck and good shooting! P.s. If you walk-in as an unknown off the street asking to "test fire" a thousand dollar pistol I'd tell you to pound sand on the way to go fly your kite. After reading some horrible reviews online of this place I was shocked to realize I'd been there before and my experience wasn't so bad. If there was anything negative to say it was the younger gentleman behind the counter were doofy. Simple questions met with perplexed stares. Go to Cabelas for example and the staff I've queried on various guns, etc. and they are onto of there game and if they can't help you they find someone who will. The HR for Cabelas is 5 stars, here though, not so much. The owners need to hire people who are knowledgeable and engaging to the customer. Instead they ignore, talk among themselves . Blank stares of uncomfortable ineptitude just ain't cutting it when you make simple queries. I get the strong impression these are sons or nephews of the owners and maybe their friends too. Any other decent store would've bounced them outta the front door. That said, the older gentleman were in fact knowledgeable and friendly. Other reviews site rudeness but if its among the more mature gentleman I haven't seen it. All that aside, this place looks like class from one end of the other, just avoid the unprofessionals behind the counter ages seemingly in their 20's. Last point and it addresses their business model. Putting a $400.00 ~ membership fee right up front is prohibitively expensive in order to test a pistol or have range access. I UNDERSTAND their thoughts, a big investment and beautiful shop(pe) command a no nonsense members fee, no free lunch here! Great, but you are DRIVING folks away and the few that sign on is a fraction of those who flub it and move on. Instead, do something along the lines of charges per shooting lane session. Make it so you can show a customer SAVES MONEY with the $400 membership being cheaper in the long run. Don't just clobber them with that $400.00 demand. In practice you'll end up with folks who actually pay MORE than the $400.00 by paying a fractional amount so much more often. And why would this happen? Simple, most fellas with $400.00 will put it toward another gun before he surrenders it to a club fee. Said another way, you'll make more in the end by charging fractionally per session because you've opened the gates to so many more people. You have to spend a certain amount of money to earn any respect in this store as I have found out the hard way and I'm thinking the amount needed is to exceed 5000 and above to meat there client criteria, I would never recommend this place to anyone not even my worst enemy, for reasons that the kid who I think runs it Alec has no clue or customer service experience or social skills when it comes to customer relation skills what's so ever! dumb as a they come as well as his behind the counter crew Donald, Andrew and his so called manager Chris who's the biggest lier of them all! they all have very little experience working in a gun and sporting shoppe it just do happens they we're schooled by my two nephew's who went with me to this dump of a place...
