This is a hidden gem for those outdoor enthusiasts. It appeared that they had everything one would need to survive in the woods from clothing, camping equipment, food, tools, maps, sleeping bags, tents, hunting standings, etc, etc...you get the idea. The interior is amazing with countless mounted wildlife and nature scenes. There are bears, deer, moose, ducks, etc etc...again you get the idea. This is reason enough to go see the amazing wildlife they have in the building. The staff was friendly and available if we needed them. Prices were reasonable and they had a clearance section which is always a plus. There was plenty to choose from and it is easy to get to and easy parking as well. Go for a nice ride down to beautiful Hope Valley and visit URE, you will feel like you are hundreds of miles away in some small town in Northern New England.... We will be going back. As a scouting family, I am sure we will grab some great items to go camping with in the near future. read more

This place is a hidden treasure!!I f you are not going for outdoor equipment go for the entertainment of viewing the exotic and creatuvely posed animal heads along the walls. Yes I am an animal lover and a vegetarian at that but this place captivated me and reminded me of all of the amazing aspects of the wilderness. Outdoor gear includes everything from hiking shoes, camping equipment to fishing poles and kayaks. They really have some of the best prices on items compared to similar stores within the state. It is a ride to get there but the degree of customer service you will experience is well worth the drive. It reminded me of a small scale Cabellas- RI style. It features a large amount of merchandise with many varieties to choose from. Prices are really good. They want you to be comfortable with your purchase and so if you are contemplating a brand of kayak, they will launch you in the kayak within their very own pond for you to try it out...then if you want to try out a few more...well they will let you. I was very impressed with the place. We purchased a kayak, a car rack, a life preserver, a paddle and the owner assisted us with installing the rack and kayak on our vehicle. Let me add that Sundays they are open until 5...well the owner was outside with us until 530 ensuring that everything was fastened securely and that we understood how to do it properly. MUST READ!! NONE of the staff members were wearing masks. NOT ONLY was the staff not masked but on top of it was letting customers not wear masks while shopping. This is a violation of compliance to help others stay safe during COVID. Very cool. This place was REI before REI. They carry great outdoor brands like The North Face, Carhartt and the like. The building is rather interesting as they have many different stuffed animal heads hanging from the walls. Okay, if that kind of thing bothers you then you should probably not go in. It's not creepy by any means, just kind of lodge-style. I had a great time walkign around and checking out their inventory. Well stocked. Plenty of parking. Kind of out of the way in that it is in Richmond on Route 138 - not a real high traffic count. But this place has the reputation to make it a worthwhile destination. read more

Nicely outfitted outdoor sporting store, helpful staff, relatively high prices, unless you find a high dollar item on sale. Downstairs has some beautiful kayaks, makes me wish I had an extra $1,000 kicking around every time I go in. They could have more local water guides though - there are many available, just not here. read more

So, my wife got me a Woolrich jacket here probably 3 years ago and it didn't fit so I returned it for store credit. I since lost the certificate, but they keep PAPER records and found the duplicate in their files in seconds! Not only did they save the day, the clerk 'called it even' when our bill rang up $2 over the balance. Amazing service and attention from the nicest people, huge selection of high quality outdoor equipment, apparel and footwear - simply worth the drive. Driving down from Boston to buy a kayak I found on cl, I needed a Thule kayak rack on the fly to reach my appointment further South on time. Called Ure from the car to find out they are just a couple minutes from Rt 95- in stock, excellent price and while I was going to the bathroom they even installed it on my car!! Talk about service! Only problem was that I didn't have time to prowl around their fascinating store. Probably should charge admission it's that unusual and gorgeous, full of great stuff. read more

Terrible return policy! I went to this store because I wanted to support a small local business even though I could have found cheaper prices at any big box store/online. I spoke with the owner about buying a Christmas gift for my husband. He didn't like the fit of the coat and couldn't find one in the store that fit him properly so we attempted to return rather than exchange the gift. At this point, I was informed that they only give store credit for returns. This policy wasn't made clear at all when I purchased the coat, even though I had told the owner it was a gift. I was also returning it brand new, tags still attached, 10 days after the purchase date. URE outfitters has a terrible return policy and does not seem to care at all about customer service. read more

Definitely worth the trip from Mystic. The in store hiking boot selection at the local Waterford EMS and Dick's was rather limited with many shoe sizes not in stock. URE had a much better selection in the mid and upper range, and sizes in stock. Also enjoyed the hunting trophies on the wall from the owner and his friends. Also a nice trip on the back roads. read more
