Updating my review to further express how great their açaí bowls are. This time I ordered online for pick up. The online ordering system isn't great (see below), however, I eventually found what I was looking for and called to adjust the pick up time. Since the large wasn't available, I chose regular for one bowl and mega for the other. I also paid for extra granola for both. Although the toppings look skimpy, we were pleasantly surprised to find the extra granola at the bottom of the regular bowl. Then the mega bowl was basically a double decker acai bowl. Acai on the bottom with selected toppings then more acai resting under another layer of the selected toppings. It's definitely worth it to get the mega bowl. They also make good smoothies and use compostable materials. Our orders have been accurate and filling. Plus the employees are friendly. Issues with the online ordering: -I couldn't adjust the pick-up time. Even though they were open for another 5 hours, the only option for pick up was next day at 9:30 am. I called after placing the order and they said they could make the order right away. -large perfect bowl is not an option (all other sizes were available) -special bowl options are confusing. No option for granola but there is an option for extra granola. Love this shop and make it a point to support it frequently during any OBX sojourn. Never tried the ice cream or whatever else they may have, to me it's all about the açaí bowls. It's easy to eat a bunch of junk on vacay, and I'll admit I can be guilty of that, so I'll typically make a meal each day with a bowl here - they work at breakfast, lunch and dinner and they're both crazy healthy and crazy delish. The Spot features a wrap-around porch and a game/picnic area, both of which have seating and are dog-friendly. Service is almost always friendly; the order taker today had an ugly case of the morning grumpies but the one who delivered my bowl was charming and helpful. See you next trip! read more

I was at OBX during the week before Memorial Day. They are generous with the amount of ice cream you are given (no rip offs) so that's good. After I got back to my car, the key was stuck and wouldn't turn. I got the jumper cables out and one of the guys who worked there offered to give me a jump start. That didn't work. They he found out that the car was in reverse instead of park which was causing the problem. I felt dumb, but he helped me find the problem, so a few days later I came back and gave him a generous tip. All the people who work there are cool. read more

After a long hot day on the beach, what's better than a smoothie or Acai bowl? I ordered a smoothie, and my sister ordered an Acai bowl. My smoothie maybe took about 10 minutes but we waited almost 25 minutes for the Acai bowl. They have a takeout window as well, so it seemed with only a few workers they were getting behind. My husband and I come here every weekend during beach season. Usually we have the best experiences. Today was just down right horrible. Your staff may be young and new to the workforce but don't hire people who are miserable and unfriendly. Lack of care for the product, if you accidentally put your fingers in my ice cream at least wear gloves or wash your hands in between customers. Just returned from our OBX trip and it wouldn't have been complete without a visit (or two) to The Spot: the best place in town for an açaí bowl! This was about 15 mins from our rental so we called orders in and then just headed down to pick them up. Nothing has changed and it's just as amazing now as it was three years ago when I first had it. My go to is the loggerhead and it did not disappoint! I wish I had a picture to post; but my excitement (on two occasions) was too much and I never snapped a photo. -_- oops! They are open during COVID and had a window to order or pick up and tape markings to help customers maintain six feet social distancing. I tried another açaí bowl spot (walking distance from our rental in Kill Devil Hills) and to say it was not good is an under statement. We each got a smoothie and they were really, really great. On the next visit, we got açaí bowls. It was late enough that they only use the pre- blend for the base. They were beautifully made, and tasted good. A small was definitely more than enough. The last day, we each got a milkshake. They were also good, but not any better than other places. That night, they were extremely busy even at 9:15 pm. Overall, I think it was a good place to go, but it wasn't any better than anywhere else. The açaí bowls make it different than other places, but if you are just looking for ice cream, it is just a comparable option to many other ice cream locations in OBX. read more
