I've always loved The Spot but never left a review. Just recently, because of the pandemic, I used the car side speakers and got food delivered to the car. It worked like silk: super fast and accurate. I always enjoy the hamburgers. And onion rings. The tenderloin is huge and delicious. Without a doubt absolutely THE worst customer experience I've ever had. Obese order taker/cashier was beyond rude. No customer skills whatsoever. Worst part was when she put my soup in a to-go container without asking whether it was takeout. It was not. Tried eating it at table however, it was scalding hot. So I went back to order counter and grabbed a bowl, touching only that bowl. Got yelled at by cashier saying she could not having a customer touching all the bowls. I had the absolutely worst chicken tenders in my entire life. And the French fries were not that much better. The meat on the inside was a dull gray. The outside crust was dark brown. It tasted like the grease had not been changed since the Bush administration. It was not my choice to go there, especially since the last several times the food has not been good. Plus we had to wait in the car for nearly an hour before getting our orders. Put down your coat to snag your table and then hurry up to the counter to order. I say get the tenderloin which is as big as your head and an order of fried mushrooms and onion rings. Cute little diner in Sidney, stopped with the kiddos on the way back home from visiting family up north. We hadn't been before and the guy taking our order was super friendly and answered our questions (he even offered to cut a burger in half when we heard we we're sharing)! We tried the pork tenderloin, it's huge and a little thicker than a normal tenderloin which I appreciate because you could taste the pork. We also had the Big Buy, a double decker burger with three buns cheese, tartar and mayo, which was delicious. Finally we had a coney that was just so so, the chili had beans and was a little sweet for my liking. The fries were okay but I saw others with the onion rings and wish we would have tried them. My wife has raved about this place for three years; we finally made it in today. What a mistake. How can you screw up a chili dog? The Spot has this challenge mastered. Start with a generic Walmart wiener; steam it, and perch it on a plain white Acmebreadcorp bun. Top it with a tablespoon of grey ground beef, and few dozen chili flavored pinto beans, in lieu of, you know, chili. Yeah... That's right. No actual chili on the chili dog. Edgy. Chicken 'tenders'? Equally egregious... Straight out of a GFS bag, and into the deep fryer for an *extended* soak in overly hot oil. Serve with bagged onion rings. Sullenly. The strawberry pie was neither fresh, nor home made... It was the same PieCo LLC. Glucose pectin bomb every chain on I75 trots out as a special this time of year. Seriously, the food at this place is horrific, and the washrooms smelled of a fetid and malignant blend of minty fresh toilet puck and Ohio biker flatulence. Avoid at all costs. This is as good as a local diner dive can get. A staple among the community, I've been coming here for a couple decades but if you were to look in the booths, I would be trumped by a few years. Food is fried, grilled and served with a smile. No fuss here. I always get the tenderloin pork as I can never find it on the menu anywhere else! Vegetable soup is great for a cold day and less we forget about STRAWBERRY PIE. They have the old school drive in ordering system and multiple tables inside. I liked the outside of the building & the fact that it has been around for a long time, but that's as far as the positive goes for me. Ordered a whole pie online and was expecting a confirmation email and receipt to be in my inbox but there wasn't any. Being unfamiliar with their online ordering and after a phone call, I just went ahead and picked it up. What's disappointing though was that, the young people upfront, especially girls who like to talk, really need to keep their voices down if they decide to talk/gossip about their customers, especially in their presence lol. I don't remember ever being in Sidney before I ate here. This place is apparently famous. There were a bunch of pictures of GW Bush on the walls. I had the "Swiss Lad", which was quite delicious. I also had fries and a malt. The malt was basically soft serve ice cream, but once I let it melt it was drinkable and pretty darn tasty. I'd definitely go back frequently if it were closer. This is Ohio's best diner. It has a classic look, and great food. My favorite is the pork tenderloin. It's not a frozen patty heated up, but fresh pork tenderloin that is breaded and fried there. Also, save room for dessert! Their pies are so good that people get them for holidays. read more

The Spot just celebrated its 100 year anniversary being at the same spot in downtown Sidney. They have good food and are known for their famous pies. The inside has been recently remodeled to reflect the 60-70's era. They also still have the "car hop" service, so if you dont feel like going inside, just pull up and order your food to go or sit in your car and eat it. You can now order your food online http://www.thespottoeat.com/ and have it ready for pick up. I have never tried doing this myself but I guess it works okay. As I drove through Ohio from metro Detroit, I knew when I had truly entered the heartland because my only choices on the radio were Rush Limbaugh, bible stories and christian rock. I needed to get off the expressway for a quick lunch before completing my journey to Cincinnati. I chose the Sidney exit and was pleasantly surprised by such a lovely little town. The Spot caught my eye because I have a soft "spot" for retro signs and diners. When you walk in, you can choose 1 of 2 paths - CARRY OUT or DINE IN. I got in the DINE IN line, which confirmed I was in a red state....and I don't just mean Ohio State! The wall was plastered with pictures of Dub-ya's visit in 2004. They even have a Bush Burger, er Presidential Burger or something like that. When waiting in line I watched them fulfill orders of pie slices...they actually hand pipe the whipped cream on each slice - yum! I ordered a breaded chicken tenderloin sandwich and diet coke. They have fountain drinks that you can fill til your heart's content. The tenderloin was as big as my head....seriously, about 4x the size of the bun. However, it wasn't white meat. It was some pounded, mystery blend of white and dark meat and I just started having flashbacks of Jamie Oliver talking about what chicken nuggets are made of. I couldn't eat much of it. Had a granola bar in the car instead. Anyway, don't let my meat aversion steer you away from this place. It's darling, right down to the red vinyl booths. read more

The onion rings were the best part if the meal. Tenderloin and burger was ok, but nothing I would order again. The salad was bland. We where in Ohio traveling and were told the pie was worth the extra 45 minute drive...we were game. Unfortunately we were disappointed. All 3 berry pies were ok and that is being kind. Hundred-year-old diner still a good place for reliable inexpensive food, and full of history, such as first restaurant in Ohio to have indoor restrooms (1987). Love their food, as well as their "Tipping is Un-American" policy. Though I must say place has slipped a little since Bob & Barbara "E" sold the place, and retired to Florida..................... Bob always claimed to have invented the cheeseburger, but I will need outside confirmation on this. Come to think of it, he also claims to have invented COFFEE, so you might want to be a little skeptical of that first claim. Bob's now a multi-millionaire who owns hotels, office towers, the Hard Rock Casino, parking garages, the Tampa Bay Lightening, and the Skyway bridge in St. Petersburg, and he's got YOU, his former customers at the SPOT to thank for that. You're welcome! Once known as the biggest tightwad in Ohio- Lately, however, Bob has become extremely generous, and has been seen depositing one-dollar bills in his church's collection plate, at least four times a year, and DOUBLES that amount at Christmastime. No more "Scrooge of Sidney" nicknames for him! Carries a minus-one handicap on the links, and hosts his own cable golf instructional school in Sarasota.
