Have my 3 year old groomed nicely but my puppy was left with very sharp nails and when I brought him back was charged $15 to grind his nails. Thought that was a lot and should be part of grooming. I used to take my dog here out of convenience but I found another groomer that I prefer. I think some things others have touched on prior are true, and I think for me to return I would like a few changes: - better customer service: including warmly greeting customers, if requiring customers to mask up then also having employees mask up otherwise it's a bit pointless bc my mask protects you but then why aren't you protecting me? Also, when a customer has a hard time expressing the grooming jargon it would be nice if responses were not condescending. I think I showed a picture of what I wanted and the groomer scoffed and said that it was only achieved by full scissor cut at which my dog would have to be a show dog and trained since puppyhood to withstand a scissor cut, and besides they don't do scissor cuts. Regardless, I wanted an overall look but I didn't really get what I wanted at all. I've been to another place and they are really good about taking what I'm looking for and making it happen (without scissor cut) So I'm not sure what the disconnect is. Also after reading reviews of injuries to some pets, and with my experience of taking my dog there about 3 times, I just decided it wasn't a match for me. read more

**UPDATE ON THIS INCLUDING PROOF I WAS THERE AND RECEIPT OF SERVICES!! These people LIE! Remember, reviews are from over the years and many from family, friends and employees: I literally just walked out the door of this place and understand after reading several bad reviews why they call this, The Spotted Dog. I'm guessing that's because of all of the cuts, gouges, burns etc. these poor dogs come out of there with. Now I'm not a resident of Florida and this was my first and last time I will be taking my miniature poodle there. I'm here for the Mayo Clinic and brought my Max with me. Max is 5 and has been getting a bath every week and groomed to always look the same when needed since he was 18 weeks old. When I went in to pick up Max a larger shaggy dog was being--tormented if you ask me. The groomer claimed it was his first time there and he was just afraid, yet I watched her rip, pull and yank at his fur. I even made a comment that I was ready to cry hearing and seeing this. I was thankful Max just needed a bath.It took them 5 hours to get this accomplished, and I called in the meantime worried about how long it was taking. While there, this overly and exaggerated Covid protocol was on display and because another lady was picking up her dog also I was told to wait outside, even though a room full of groomers stood there maskless. I could tell Max was uncomfortable and shaken up by his facial expressions and body language. Then I asked if he had been taken outside to potty. They gave me this song and dance about being too close to the highway to take a dog out to pee. Apparently that huge yard adjacent to the side of the building wouldn't do. Then one of the groomers blew my mind! She said that she was gone for around 10 hours a day and she wished her dog would just pee on her floor but he won't do that and he just holds it and waits until someone gets home. The dog is obviously smarter and better trained than she is. Who leaves their pet alone 10 hours?!? I asked if Max had just been peeing on their floor and they said the dogs there just pee and poop on the floor and they try and clean it up (but you know that the animals just walk around in it until someone cleans it up, that is gross and sad) I was so angry I wanted to smack her smirking face! These people shouldn't be allowed around animals! My groomer has an amazing cage free clean environment with cameras everywhere, and she hires young folks to play with the pets in their fenced in areas and take them potty when needed. If a dog is a first timer and would ever be crying and yowling like the one there at The Spotted Dog was doing, they would make arrangements with the pet parents to do something that would comfort the pet until he or she would get more comfortable with what they were doing. But watching her yank and pull on this poor dogs fur is the issue, not the dogs fear of getting brushed! Now to the owner or whomever responds back to people who post valid complaints. DON'T try that crap with me. I heard and saw and experienced how you treat our babies and I won't let you get by with making any BS excuses. You should all be ashamed! And what's even more sad is animals can't speak for themselves and many if not most of these good reviews are likely from people who don't have their pet bathed weekly or even monthly so they don't know the signs of a dog who has had a bad experience but is still happy to see mom or dad, and mom and dad just see the smiling groomer and think things went great. This is not a good grooming place. But do what you will. Max won't be back, and I really pray all of you who go here demand better conditions, perhaps video and audio everywhere a pet would/could be. This is what the owner posted on the review my husband put on Google. She/he claimed I'd never been there and had both of our reviews removed. In the comment section below I posted a comment about this. Response from the owner 19 hours ago First thing I want to say is there is NO RECORD of you ever coming to our salon in our Data base. It is IMPOSSIBLE to have reviews removed or altered from Google without legitimate grounds and the proper request and investigation done. Secondly how very detrimental it is to a family operated small business for you to accuse us of animal abuse! On what grounds sir??? We are a family of four and two legged mothers that value and love every pet that crosses our paths. You accusation is the most devastating part of your erroneous claim. I am the owner and I am available to clients any time day or night should you ever have a concern that need to be addressed. There are cameras in our salon that hold thirty days of video. Post sentence, I would love to see a screen shot from your wife's review with the time stamp and date so that I can personally send a trouble ticket to google about missing reviews. read more

Not gonna lie but they've done a good job job,but lately they take forever to groom my baby ,a mini schnauzer,the first time I took him at 12:30 pm and i was told it would be 3-4 hours ,IT TOOK ALMOST 7 HOURS ,i had to pick him up at 7:10 pm ,my baby hadn't eaten nothing from 11 Am ,then the second time same thing happened ,i took him in at 1:30 pm and was called at 8:30 pm to pick him up which is crazy so long to groom a 20 pound dog ,plus i went a little early and the black lady that was grooming my baby was really aggressive with him ,pulling and turning his head aggressively,while he was calm. Don't bring your babies here unless u want them to be here for 7-8 hours locked in a cage and they wont be fed "Cause of allergies that the dog can get to the food" I will not bring him back here ever again. read more

OMG!!! This place is the best groomer I have found in Jacksonville. I had really bad experiences with getting my Irish terrier groomed in a way we liked. They are the best and actually listened to what I asked but also gave suggestions. They were realistic and honest when giving a time estimate of when they would be done. They called both numbers as asked and I just can't rave enough about how happy my husband and I are with them. Ashlene and Melissa groomed our babies but I think everyone is experienced enough to trust them with your babies too. Our dogs look so freaking great!!!!! We were in Jacksonville visiting my brother for the holidays and my dog needed to get groomed before his long flight back to Los Angeles. We took him in early in the morning and Ashley, Cassie, and Shannon were incredible. They took very good care of my dog and when we came to pick them up he was chilling in the back office like he was a puppy employee they are so sweet to the babies that come into the shop and my dog was grown so well he didn't have to be grown for several weeks after. He smelled delicious and his hair and for loved the products they used. I wish we live closer but if you are in the Jacksonville area please come and see this place! I was looking for a new place to take my pet and found The Spotted Dog Spa and I am so glad I did. The staff were genuinely polite to me and took great care of my pet. Ashley is now at Spotted dog and no longer with PetsMart on Monument. She has a huge following with small dog breeds. I have been taking my Maltese to her for about 10 years. She does a perfect job with special scissor cuts on her face which makes her look fabulous. This is a small shop and often the dogs are allowed to socialize instead of being put in a cage. Spotted Dog is a very professionally run business with a deep love for your pets. This is my favorite spot to take my beloved pet...try it; you'll like it! read more

Do not use these people. They crate dogs, don't greet you when you walk in. Don't greet the pets. Change their prices. Preach to you about grooming when it is not at all necessary & they kept my baby way too long. They promised to give him water & did not. The WORST haircut he ever had. They can't even clip nails properly. Place is old, run down & on a very busy street. The owner sat on her rear end & would even get up to talk to me. Miserable place. I just tried to make an appointment for my dog. He's a puppy and has already had a haircut before at a different groomer. I decided to take him here based on a friend's recommendation. He's a Morkie, super sweet and very smart, however, as soon as I said the breed, she immediately said Yorkies are "terrors" and refused to see him until he was 6 months old!? His hair is so long it's getting knots and caught in his collar, waiting 2 more months wasn't an option. Her response "well I guess I could try to give him a little trim, but if he acts up it'll be all choppy". Never mind...I'd hate to inconvenience you bringing in a small dog that you just don't feel like doing based on past experience with someone else's ill behaved animal. read more

I Absolutely LOVE the Spotted Dog!!!! This is the 3rd time I've brought Roxy, my 55lb 8mo old puppy in for her nail trim/grind. She is a "handful" very rambunctious & strong. The wonderful ladies are always so welcoming & professional! The owner & the groomers that have taken care of Roxy are great at what they do!! Somehow they calm her down & do her nails very quickly & efficiently! Roxy also Loves to go there, she won't let me touch her nails (I hit her quick once) which to me, shows how Good they are at what they do! They have reasonable prices, & are very accommodating. I like the fact you can drop in for a nail trim. Being open on weekends is Super convenient too!! Basically I'm saying, This Place Rocks!!! Great spa for your pups! I brought my Yorkie 'Henny" here over the weekend and they did an awesome job! She is three and have got her haircut so many times as we all know Yorkies are in need of constant grooming. Best haircut to this day. She seemed super calm as I was waiting for her to get done which is HUGE cause usually she is shaking or just nervous in places such as this. This place came highly recommended from my Vet Tech. And she was absolutely right about them! I have a Siberian Husky, which most groomers would refuse to do, and/or charger an outrageous amount. We haven't been to a dog salon for many years and were nervous at first. But after learning how experienced they are at the Spotted Dog we decided to try it. It was Bootsie's, our 11 year old's, first time too. They only do a limited number of dogs per day, and they take very good care. All the tables where they trim, etc the dogs are behind the counter in the front room for all to see. My wife thought we would have to stay the whole time, but after trimming her nails, cleaning her ears and starting to brush her, Bootsie was so relax - and the staff was so calm and patient we knew she was in good hands. A couple of hours later they called us to pick her up. Some of the other customers even commented how nice our dog was as they saw her getting trimmed up, and how beautiful she looked. My wife and I couldn't agree more, and we already scheduled our next appt. We are very long time dog owners and you know you get that sense when someone loves dogs - they do.
