The Stacks Coffeehouse place was PACKED on a Saturday morning. We arrived around 8:30AM and nearly every table was filled. There is one big table and several little 2-person tables. The ambience is very homey with the books on the walls and dimmed lights. There is some quiet music as well. Service was fast and kind. The staff kept up with the fast pace of the orders. 8oz latte was okay. It was not overly bitter and had a slight fruity taste. The coffee is pretty average in my opinion. I love that they sell tacos and that they host events in this space, which are all advertised inside. This cafe is not a good place for studying, however, since there are nearly no outlets and people kept coming in and out. It can get loud. Parking is free along the street. read more

The coffee shop was teeming with patrons, looked like a lot of people were working on laptops. I was able to squeeze in at a spot that faced the street. I'm obsessed with The Stacks Coffeehouse. I really don't know what it is, but I feel so cozy and at home sitting at any of their little tables. All the full bookshelves, the soft warm lighting, the rain outside on a dark night. I'm literally waxing eloquent about it but I'm serious. I love that it's open later in the evening too. Another fun aspect is their creative writing nights on Tuesdays. They give you a writing prompt and leave you to free write for a couple hours. Such a fun idea! Their coffee is also really nice. Super cool concept, but I wouldn't even call it a coffee shop--it's more like a bookstore that just happens to sell coffee. The vibes are immaculate, the neighborhood is beautiful, and they host writing nights + poetry readings, which is a huge plus. But the coffee? So bad. I've visited this coffee place a few times and just realized I had yet to write a review. If you like books and coffee, you'll enjoy a visit and might even become a regular! They've successfully created the atmosphere of a little neighborhood library that has a coffee house. Wifi is decent. The staff are kind and helpful and the food of choice are what they call "tacos" - little flour tortillas filled with a variety of options - each runs you $4.50 - one is a snack, two makes a nice meal. Truly one of the worst cups of coffee I've ever had. Undrinkable. Almost chemical. The barista was super rude and then gave me the wrong order and then after I corrected it they gave me an award winning pile of hot garbage. I'm still trying to get the taste out of my mouth. If I lived in Portland, I would be at Stacks all the time, like, to the point where the owners would probably ask if I could, you know, vary my choices. The stacks of books make you feel like you're in a homey coffeeshop but one that also makes excellent coffee and pastries. I liked this spot. Its clearly a cool gem in the area. A lot people seemed to be regulars. I love any spot where the employees remember the customers by name and drink. I popped in to this cute coffee shop for a quick rest & coffee. I love the decor with the floor to ceiling shelves of books. The barista was really nice & I tried their Spring drink special, the Lavender Latte. I love lavender beverages and this latte was very good (I had mine with oat milk), and a nice hot temp as well (I've had lukewarm lattes elsewhere). I love the library concept of this coffee shop. In a city with many coffee shop options, its important to set yourself apart and I think this place does just that. They serve Rose City Coffee, Smith Tea, and a few baked good and taco options. I had an iced americano and it was tasty. Truly one of my favorite coffee shop atmospheres, and I've spent a LOT of time in a LOT of coffee shops. I drive from Vancouver at least once a week to relax (or knock out some work) at The Stacks. The books lining the walls (which are all available to check out!) make this place a book lover's paradise. It can get busy during peak coffee hours on Fridays, but everyone here is so friendly and strangers often share tables and start conversations with each other. I visited the spot on 7/5. I ordered a cappuccino and a breakfast taco. While the coffee and food were delicious, I ended up asking for a to-go cup because of the service. The barista was rude. She had attitude the entire time. I asked her where the lid and cups were located, she would point. Though helpful, she was not welcoming. Additionally, she was playing aggressive music fairly loud. As I left, I asked another customer, who moved from inside to the chairs outside, if she had been to this spot before. She said no, but did say she took her book outside because the noise was too loud. The atmosphere is inviting and I love the layout with the bookcases and roomy seating area. I had been wanting to go to The Stacks for quite a while but since it's not in my neighborhood I hadn't made it yet. On Mother's Day when my fam said "we can do whatever you want," I was excited to finally get there. So maybe there was too much buildup, but the barista was very grumpy and unwelcoming and the tables were being blasted by freezing air conditioning. On a nice late spring day with the doors open, I didn't know I'd need a sweater. We sat outside and enjoyed an ok chai but I didn't feel comfortable enough inside to enjoy the book aspect at all, so it may as well have been any old cafe except for the literature aesthetic which I did appreciate for a moment of course. If I lived closer or if there were any visible vegan options on the menu, I'd try again, but as much as it pains me to say it, the experience was a big disappointment and as such I don't know if I'll be back. It felt like a 2 star situation for me honestly but sitting outside in the sun reading the book I brought was nice enough to pull it around. read more

So when I noticed this little haven of a coffee shop open in my area It quite tickled my fancy. The baristas are friendly; I only get drip coffee (because you can't mess up perfection). If you're looking for a quaint nook to read or study or have an affordable snack this is your spot. However the one thing I will say about this is the owner some how has bottomless pockets that he throws snakes out of in the general direction of customers. He says it's to help people wake up in the morning.
