I'm not sure if it was because of how busy this place was when we got here for brunch, but the food was very cold and unappetizing. We got here at 10am on a Monday, and every table was filled. It looked like they had numerous staff, but I would guess that the traffic level must be hard to manage. Perhaps because of this, my order of Sawmill breakfast was very poorly prepared. The gravy was luke warm at best. The eggs had the texture of frozen powdered egg that was just thawed. The biscuit was like a brick and hard to eat. I also saw numerous other patrons who were leaving their scrambled eggs untouched. The chicken tenders were warm and delicious, and the quiche was decent. Salad was probably the highlight. Besides that, I think the vibes inside the restaurant were very beautiful and memorable. Just unfortunate that the food was very sub par. I probably wouldn't recommend if you were trying to impress someone important.

This place gets busy for weekend brunch, my party of 4 got there at 10:30am and got seated immediately (there were only a few tables left). Sundar street parking is free in certain zones before 1 pm, it was less than a 5 min walk from the restaurant. The waiters have a southern hospitality type of vibe which was nice. Now for the food: Praline bacon: 8/10 sweet and savory, nutty and bacony. It was good but would I pay $12 for 3 strips of bacon again? Probably not. Bananas foster French toast: 10/10 buttery, sweet caramelized bananas, great for dessert or breakfast if you're a sweet breakfast kind of person. Chicken fried steak with sausage gravy: 7/10 there a lot of chewy bits in steak and it was already a very thin cut. Also comes with scrambled eggs and potatoes. Potatoes were the best part since they were seasoned very well. Chicken and biscuit: 8/10 classic chicken and biscuit Shrimp and grits: 7/10 grits felt really heavy to eat and the shrimp was salty. It comes with an egg under the shrimp and a biscuit on the side so that helped dilute the salt a bit

We went with a large group (with a reservation) and this was an incredible brunch spot! It's hard to travel with a large group in Portland and we were so thankful for our reservation because the food here is DIVINE. We came for a little pre-birthday celebration and we loved all of it. The chicken and waffles was a huge hit for our group and the strawberry shortcake is one that I will compare all future ones to!

From food + service to overall vibe + esthetic, this place is definitely a spot to try in Portland. They are known for their chicken and I can confirm, it was absolutely delicious Few notes: - Restaurant can get busy; highly recommend making a reservation - They are open for breakfast + lunch, close at 2pm and re-open at 4:30pm - Portions are large; makes for great dishes to share!

This was a lovely experience. We tried so many things, and they were all incredible. The gumbo was so unique. The crab in there really added to that seafood flavor. The hushpuppies are addictive. The deviled eggs were amazing. I love that they put all the salt and pepper and hot sauce on the table. I hate having to ask for those things everywhere I go. The vibe here is casual but upscale. The server was super helpful and efficient. The lighting is slightly dim and lovely. I really enjoyed the whole thing. We got that bananofee pie, and hot damn. It was amazing. I definitely suggest you try this place if you're in the area.

Lively brunch spot in the Pearl District. Homey, welcoming vibes. Clean bathrooms. The food was good. Southern brunch and also traditional breakfast fare. Hearty portions. The highlight was absolutely staff--so friendly!

Fantastic breakfast! We were fortunate to get a couple of counter seats, which unfortunately gave us a view right into the plating area where we saw everything we wanted to order...basically, the whole menu :) Choices must be made so the Shrimp & Grits and the Bananas Foster French Toast won out for today. Both were amazing. The whipped cream on the french toast could hold its own as a standalone dessert. Interior was beautiful. Seating was comfortable and the service was excellent.

I wish I had room for more! My husband and I came here for breakfast on a Friday and were able to get sat immediatley. Service is friendly and our food came out quick. To start we shared the cinnamon rolls that were not too sweet and had a cream cheese center. We also shared the biscuits and mushroom gravy as well as the cheesy grits. I am not a fan of mushrooms but this was delicious and not too overpowering. On top of the chicken everything was very well seasoned and rich. The first bite of grits didn't seem too crazy but they become addictive. The biscuit was a little on the dry side and was left uneaten. Ambiance is classic breakfast spot with a cute flair.

Beautiful location w good service and delicious food. This is a place I would make time to stop by. I've seen a lot of YouTubers who stop by this location and didn't understand. Now I do. If you are in Portland and have a moment, please stop by

Well I guess we found the hot spot in the area Pearl District area! Not only was this spot super cute but everything we ordered was so good! My crispy chicken sandwich was perfect! Homemade slaw and pickles with a soft bun and crunchy perfectly cooked chicken. I wasn't a huge fan of the fries but the sandwich was enough for me to go back! The service was quick and they were very friendly. I'm looking forward to talking my husband next time we go to Portland!

Amazing food, good service, and outdoor ambiance made for a great foodie experience at Screen Door. My first time having Screen Door at their downtown location, and the quality is still outstanding. On this visit, we ordered the Praline Bacon, Chicken and Waffles, and Catfish and Grits. The Praline Bacon had so much flavor. A hint of maple, the sweetness and crunch of the pralines makes this bacon appetizer a must have. The Fried Chicken and Sweet Potato Waffles are truly a comfort food combination, as it brought back memories to my first time at Screen Door back in 2009. Still, the same great flavor in the waffles and the crispy, juiciness on the chicken was so satisfying. The Catfish was fried to perfection, and the grits were cooked perfectly as well. The grits needed a little butter and salt, but paired with the catfish was heavenly. Very happy every time I come to Screen Door, and I look forward to coming back when i come to town!

Went for the Happy Hour here and left stunned! This place was just down the street from our hotel and while we were walking we stumbled upon it just in time for happy hour and we are so glad we did! To start the service was great, the server was quick, attentive, and friendly even though we came in just 1 hour before closed he was so patient with us! Food was astonishing. The sliders were sooo good with the BBQ Pulled Pork the only complaint I would have is that there wasn't more. The Spinach Dip was unlike any other dip I've ever had before, it was just everything you could ever want out of a dip. And the Poutine was just crispy perfection topped with chewy cheese curds and a rich savory gravy on top. Ambiance of the place was great very chatty very lively even close to closing it was very alive in there!

LOVED the praline bacon. Honestly it was life changing. Perfect crunch, sweet flavor and satisfying. Also got the Banana Fosters french toast. Very sweet but overall good. I would stop in if you ate down town.

Ask the Community - Screen Door Pearl District

How long do walk ins usually wait to be seated on a Sunday morning?

Depends on when you get there. If you're waiting on line when they open, is t can up to maybe 45 mins to an hour, depending on how many reservations are ahead of you. Or you might get right in if there aren't that many reservations.

Is this genuine Southern food or some yankee's interpretation of Southern food? I'm concerned because the CFS is not served with cream gravy, and I don't see any collard greens on the menu.

I would say it's selected item that are traditionally southern made and mostly it is interpreted.

    Do they have homemade cornbread?

    We do have housemade cornbread!

Is the outdoor area good for a family with kids?

Yes. It is open on one side so, if the kids are little, you'll need to keep an eye on them.

Are there any dairy free options?

    Yes

Are they still requiring proof of vax? Trying to accommodate a large group.

    No!

Do you use a delivery service?

You can, I believe, using Caviar, DoorDash, etc

Do you have any gluten free options?

Yes they do, but I'm not sure of the range of options. Brisket definitely.
