Visited Tiny's today for the first time. Coffee with one of my faves. We chose to sit on the comfy couch while doing embroidery work and tarot pulls. It was pretty slow for a Sunday, but it was also the afternoon. I got a cardamom latte and avocado toast. Both were delicious. Prices were a little steep for what you get. The staff were friendly, very non talkative and not engaging. But that vibe isn't necessarily bad. My only concern is that the overall cleanliness (especially the bathroom) is lacking. Such a cute coffee shop and definitely a hidden gem. I found this spot while strolling to get lunch and was immediately curious. I decided to stop by and tried their spicy mocha, which was delicious and really hit the spot. I got it hot, but you can also order it cold if you prefer. There is good seating inside and excellent wifi, which makes it a great place for anyone who enjoys working from a coffee shop. The owner also has a tiny museum filled with miniature items, which I thought was incredibly cute. It's part of a community engagement project where people contribute their own style, making this place feel very welcoming and community-friendly. Tiny's Coffee has been around for over 20 years! They first opened in 2002. They have two locations, this one in NE and another one in SE. Right off MLK Blvd, it's easy to drive past this spot and not stop in. But walk there from nearby or use their small parking lot, and you'll find an old school yet charming coffee shop: concrete floors, wood accents, art on the walls (some of it professional, some of it seems like inside jokes from the employees). They serve Water Avenue coffee, Kinglet tea, Henry Higgins bagels, and pastries from Farina. They also have alcoholic options and an early happy hour. read more

Tiny's coffee has been on my list for quite some time and I have to say I was impressed! When you walk in you order your beverage and/or food at the counter. They have an extensive list of different drinks, teas, and additives (such as syrups or alternative milks) to customize your order! I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of table space in the shop. There was 3 bar stools, 5-6 tables, and a lounge/couch area. In addition to that, there is an expansive patio out back. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and a sugar free caramel latte. Overall the items were good, but a tad heavy handed on the salt for the sandwich and overly sweet on the latte. Lovely spot nearby Kiln. I parked in the lot at Kiln Portland and saw Tiny's across the street and decided to stop by and give it a try. I chose a Lavender Latte and my mom got a Matcha Latte. My latte was perfect but my mom said her matcha was oddly thick. Perhaps the barista didn't whisk the matcha very well? The vibe of Tiny's is welcoming and quirky. I just met some friends here recently for a gathering. I got a bit lost finding the place. Parking is limited, but there is extra space on the side streets. Atmosphere is basic, but they do have books on the back wall areas (that sort of look like a leave a book - take a book situation). I ordered a sweet and spicy chai. It was phenomenal. I Would definitely stop in again and order that if in the area. I also ordered a holiday cranberry tart. It was good, but a bit pricey at $6. The staff was friendly and reliable. Stopped in here while visiting from out of town. It was a very chill coffee shop--not too crowded at all, which was awesome. The staff were very nice and welcoming. I can't really tell you much about this place other than it was near my Airbnb and had a sign that said "Best Coffee in Town", so I popped by to grab an iced latte one day. Wean overall unpleasant experience from staff to the space. Here's what we encountered and would not to back. - unwelcoming staff behind the counter (long red hair). There was literally no one else in the place when we arrived and there was no smile or greeting, looked like they were too busy to help us. -left the front door open in a tiny place in thirty degree weather. We asked them if we could close it and they said, no because they get too hot. It was like sitting in a walk in freezer for an hour, but we didn't have time to find another place. - the decor and space is just uninviting. Because it was cold the staff person suggested we go in the back hall where there was bar height seating, but it was just as cold and echoey. They suggested we go outside where there were heaters but it wasn't warmer due to the icey temps. ---- The breakfast food seemed nice, and I'm sure it's a good space in the summer. But I would heed the 3.5 stars and find another place. read more

I live a handful of blocks from here, and while I've walked past and seen this shop often while going to the adjacent Cartopia and other nearby spots, I've never stopped in in over 3 years of being in the neighborhood. My loss. It's a throwback of a coffee shop - no square metal tubes with exposed welds, reclaimed wood, subway tiles, plant walls, etc. Instead, it's a simple service counter with a chalkboard menu, a few tables along the north wall, a small patio out front, a couch on the west wall. Compared to the glistening hard surfaces of most modern hipster coffee shops, everything feels a bit worn, but in a comfortable way. It probably didn't hurt my favorable opinion that when I walked in, Greenday's album Dookie was playing. I can't speak for the coffee (signage said they were using Stumptown) as I had some tea - pint glass with a basket infuser, and a coaster to set the infuser on - and the employee kindly pointed out that I could come back for more hot water for a second-steeping if I wanted. When I stopped in, it was pretty quiet, with a max of maybe 3 other customers in there during the hour or so I lingered there on the couch, doing a bit of reading and a little downtime before I continued my afternoon. read more

Tiny's is great! Beer, coffee, food, wi-fi, patio seating (with a ton of plugs in case you computer's battery is running low). The happy hour is great here, $2 micros, 1.50 PBR (i think that's what it costs). This is my favorite place to study, the patio is peaceful and comfortable, and the free wi-fi is fast and requires no password or anything. Don't penalize the decaf drinker. The food was ok, the decaf americano was ok. Would have been 3 stars but for the coffee issue. I only drink decaf. My choice. Most places accommodate with a americano as a substitute, no extra charge because it's less expensive to them than keeping a fresh pot of decaf on with few drinkers. It's a net gain because you're upgrading someone. When you only leave the choice of paying more for a decaf americano or doing without, some people get irritated. Some get pissed. I got irritated. So, I usually get a refill of coffee after my first cup. Coffee refill, 75 cents. Decaf refill? NONE FORYOU! Full price for a new americano. Again, I know there is more labor costs for an americano. It's not like they're gabbing away back there most of the time. Haha. Ease up. Don't discriminate. Maybe you'd be a 4 star instead of a mere 3 stars. read more

It might be excessive, but I am bestowing five stars upon Tiny's solely for providing photocopies of the daily crossword. I really had to agonize over this one. First, the good: The sandwiches are tasty. I'm a fan of the Thomas on an everything bagel (+ Tapatio) and it's $3.50. They serve Columbia Gorge Organic juices and smoothies. Makes me happy. Hometown represent. Good tunes. They switch it up between newer shiz and the classiques. And sometimes at night, they'll broadcast Blazer's games over the radio. Beer. (Will usually fall under the category of good) Service. It seems like the kids actually try to be friendly. Most of the time. The bad: There's basically one guy there who makes a spectacle of himself, gives me awful service, and last week when I ordered a double espresso he just reached over to the machine and handed me some shit-tastic shots that had been sitting around. It's weird, because if there's no one around, he's super nice. But most of the time it seems like he's showing off for the cool kids. That's really the only bad thing, besides the lack of seating. I've been going to Tiny's regularly for the past 6 years on the weekends. It used to be a great place. However, over the past year or so it's gotten progressively dirtier and less welcoming. The whole place is starting to feel like sticky, slime-coated public restroom. Or maybe the greasy food cart aesthetic next door is starting to creep in? I've also noticed the baristas are starting to turn into unpleasant jerks. Sullen service and screwed up orders are commonplace now. I know they don't get paid much, but can't they just fake it? So, yeah, needless to say, I've haven't been visiting Tiny's very much lately. Maybe they could invest in a cleaning service and teach the peeps behind the counter to put on a smile and make people feel welcome.
