I am convinced Red Fish Blue Fish has some of the fattest looking seagulls in all of Victoria. These birds are not casually passing through. They know exactly what is happening here. They sit nearby, staring at you with the confidence of seasoned restaurant critics, patiently waiting for someone to make a questionable decision with their lunch. They are almost part of the staff at this point. But the real star is the food. Everything we had was tasty, fresh, and satisfying. The fish was exactly what you hope for when you come to a place like this: nicely prepared, crispy on the outside, tender inside, and full of flavour. There was a freshness to everything that really stood out. I especially enjoyed the pickled onions and sprouts. They might seem like small additions, but they made a big difference. The pickled onions brought a lovely tanginess, while the sprouts added freshness and crunch. Those little touches gave the meal more balance and made it feel a bit more elevated than your typical casual seafood stop. The staff deserve a mention too. Everyone was friendly, relaxed, and down to earth. There is no pretentiousness here, which fits the setting perfectly. You get the feeling that the focus is simply on serving good food and making sure people have a good experience. What I really love about Red Fish Blue Fish is that it feels like one of those places that belongs to Victoria. It is casual, it is right on the water, and it has that unmistakable West Coast feeling. The Dirty Dog had smoked meat piled on along with cheese. I added banana peppers for a little extra kick. My daughter had mustard and loaded her dog with pickles. Lully definitely appreciates his customers, he had a soft spot for organ donars and kids as long as you don't put ketchup on your dog. The hours can be random so check the lullys facebook or call ahead. Theres "indoor" and outdoor seating. Lully has music playing which drowns out the car noise from the lot and road. One winter, my parents needed to shop at the Korean grocery store in Coquitlam, and there happened to be a boong-uh-bbang (taiyaki) cart outside. Unfortunately I didn't appreciate red bean at that time, and I knew that pretty much all boong-uh-bbang were filled with red bean paste only. To my delight, I discovered that this cart sold vegetable filled boong-uh-bbang! I prompted scarfed down at least three, and loved every bite of it. For years, I remembered this little cart as a childhood memory. But now that I live here, I can get vegetable-filled boong-uh-bbang more often! The lady who runs the cart is always so nice, and I always wish I could buy more than I do. So make sure to drop by whenever you're in the area and get your veggies!
