We had about an hour to kill before we returned our rental car, so we stopped in for a quick bite. We were seated at a table and waited, while tables were cleared around us and orders taken. Our waitress came to the table, we told her we only had about 1/2 hour to eat, and we ordered a beer (bottled, they were our of draft beers) and one bowl of chowder. We waited. And waited . The beer arrived (very nice Kokanee lager). We drank the beer, and waited. We finally had to leave without the chowder. I don't know if it was tasty. I'm updating my review to reflect on my 2nd visit to this establishment. I popped by on my way home and the special was the cod and chips for $19.99. I decided to give this a try and my god, it was bloody horrible. The batter was so heavy and soggy, the plate had tons of grease compiled into a puddle. There was very little cod inside the batter and their tartar sauce was just garlic mayo... Really really disappointing visit today. I don't see myself returning anytime soon because the food was just terrible. Kaley/Kacey, my servier, was a bundle of energy and lovely, I just wish she came to check up on me before you noticed I had thrown my napkin into my food as a sign I was done. Also, the Spitfire desperately needs a good clean, it's quite dirty on the inside and out. Original Review from October 2025. The outside is nothing to write home about, neither is the inside... But I'm not coming here for the decor; I came for the food and my god did the food ever represent. I ordered the Philly Beef Dip and it was just delicious - every morsel of it. The service was lovely, I'm not sure why there are negative reviews saying otherwise. Ginny, my server, was attentive, kind and extremely helpful. I can't wait to go back and try theI Sunday roast dinner and more of their menu. Friendly staff, good food, good ambiance, reasonable prices. We stop by anytime we go to the airport

We have given this restaurant quite a few tries, and although the food has been good, service is incredibly poor. There is one waitress, in particular that is very rude and short with customers. The times we have had her as a server, she has made us feel unwelcome and that our dining is an inconvenience. It is very uncomfortable and feels personal or that she does not enjoy her job. Today we went in and asked for a table of 5, at 4:45, she was very terse, when we didn't have a reservation, and responded that all big tables were taken. She didn't offer to put us on a waitlist, or ask if we could sit at a table of 4 (as 2 of our party were children). The restaurant seemed empty. It was another uncomfortable experience with her, so we headed off to Mary's blue moon, which appeared happy to have us (and offered us a table of 4 with an extra chair!) read more

'We live in the Westshore, so don't get out this direction often. We were in Sidney at their Market and decided we would head to Spitfire Grill and try their breakfast. We had only ever been for lunch or dinner previously and it was always delicious. We arrived at 11:45. We asked for the breakfast menu and were told breakfast ended at 11:40. I thought it was 12:00 but was told there was a transition period to switch over. There were only 2 tables of 2 at the time and nobody behind us, so this was a little shocking to me. Pretty easy to make customers happy by having some flexibility, when it is slow and we were there before noon. My Mom and I really wanted breakfast but decided we would stay for lunch. The decision to stay was a bit hard to make, as the host/server was very dismissive and rude. The server came back to our table and set the water jug and cups down aggressively and walked away without saying anything to us. When she came back to take our order, she continued to justify why we could not have breakfast, saying breakfast ends at 12:00 and they need time to transition. No apologies just rude justification. Again, we were both shocked with the way this server was speaking to us. I convinced my Mom to get the Meatloaf sandwich, as it is my favorite. When the server returned, we ordered the 2 meatloaf sandwiches. She advised that not only could we not order breakfast, but the meatloaf sandwich was not available. That would have been good info to have prior to perusing the menu and deciding what meal to get. Again no apology, just rude, behaviour. Nothing about our interaction, made us feel like they wanted our business, so we advised we were going to leave. Just as we were about to exit the restaurant, the server loudly said from across the restaurant, in a condescending tone "good luck finding somewhere for breakfast". I replied by saying, "we aren't leaving because of breakfast, we are leaving because you have not been friendly. She said, "I have been very friendly!" At this point, another staff member came out from the back and said, "she has been very accommodating". We had not seen this staff member the entire time we were in there, so found this very interesting. This restaurant has been one of my favorites for years. I take out of town guests there and always go there when we are out that way. The food has always been delicious and it's just a really fun experience being right at the airport. The service has always been great, up until this experience. We left feeling shocked, disappointed and a little sad, as that will be the last time we go there. I don't know what has changed here, maybe a new staff member. I decided to look up the reviews and see we are not the only ones to have a similar experience, and that is just from those who have decided to leave a review. I can see from some of the replies from the restaurant, they are written in the same flippant, unprofessional manner. No humility in any replies written, so perhaps poor leadership here. Whatever the reason, this establishment is falling short, and in my opinion, only because of poor customer service. read more

Excellent breakfast / brunch and very friendly service. If you find yourself out by the airport it is worth a detour to the Spitfire.

We enjoyed the spitfire grill. We had the Friday special prime rib dinner. The meat was a little on the thin and overdone side but the Yorkshire pudding and potatoes were excellent. We go back here almost every time we are on the island. Great value. read more

I came here on a Wednesday in August around 10:45 am for breakfast with family. We received friendly and prompt customer service by Amy. She even put on a fresh pot of decaf for us. Our table ordered one of the 2-2-2 breakfast (subbed fried mushrooms for bacon), as well as, two veggie omelettes. All breakfasts came with hash browns and a choice of toast from the Portofino Bakery. They were cooked perfectly and were delicious! It was fun watching the planes taking off and landing right out our window! The Spitfire was pretty quiet when we arrived, but by noon the place was hoping! We were glad we came early. We will definitely be back! Might try out happy hour...Food and drink specials sound good. read more

The Spitfire grill has been our favorite since it opened in 1998, however the last two meals were really a disappointment. We went for their prime rib special and was told it was sold out by 5:45pm. Another meal I ordered halibut and chips. The halibut was so old it stank and was not edible. The original owner would never have permitted the quality to suffer to this degree. We still go there on occasion but with trepidation. read more

Very nice little aviation enthusiasts place for lunch near the airport looking onto the runway. Pricing was not bad, about $10-15 per person. I had the fish taco which was very fresh. Another person had the pastrami beacon on rye sandwich daily special. Looked very good...came with the cabbage roll soup. Yes, never heard of that one. Another one of my favorite's. Good quality food, variety, good portions, and arguably one of the best spots next to the YYJ runways.

Eggs Benny was great! Husband and been touring town eating eggs Benny and thinks it's the beat so far (I think Johns Place was better).

I've only been to the Spitfire Grill for breakfast and I have to say that it was very nice. The service was exceptional and the food was excellent. The dining area is a wee bit noisy, but that is probably because of all the windows (without which there wouldn't be the great view). read more

We made reservations for 6 for Mothers Day breakfast. The day before our reservation we called to ask if we could include another person and change it to 7. The staff on the phone advised us they had noted our reservation was only made for 5 and that though they could make it for 6, the absolutely could not make it for 7. When we arrived at the restaurant we were given a table for 5. Upon asking the manager Wally about this, we were advised the reservation was for 5, and when I told him we in fact made it for 6 he very rudely told me he wasn't going to argue but would bring us another table. NOTE: I was not arguing - I was pointing out that they had made a mistake - sometime which Wally's attitude quickly proved was impossible (for him to accept anyway). Before sitting down I had no desire to eat there due to Wally's rudeness and had decided I would not go back. The food did nothing but solidify my opinion. Of the 6 of us, two of us ordered steak (medium rare) and eggs, while my daughter ordered a pancake with fresh fruit. The steak arrived well done - if not leathery burnt (which is a pity because surprisingly it was a good cut o meat), and there were moldy berries in my daughter's fruit bowl. Though there were no other complaints about the food, there was nothing to rave about either. I pointed this out to the waitress, who was clearly a very competent and concerned young lady, who though sympathetic could do little but tell us she hoped the rest of our meal went better. No food replacements were offered and no discount was added to our $80 (before a tip) bill - which still showed us as a table for 5 though clearly there were 6 of us. As we were finishing up our meal, we watches as Wally and a waitress simply covered a dirty table cloth with another cloth and set the table for the next set of customers.
