Fatigued being snubbed by the Austin attitude or the swanky on point amazing oh my gosh Otto's in Frederickberg? Maybe you are looking outside the "Berg" or even outside Marble Falls for an interesting upbeat small town feel with a very good profile? Well, look no further than "The Standard on Vaughn". IMHO it's worth the fairly short drive which includes plenty of visual charm nestled all around in a by-gone-era. The street is cozy and seems to nestle & welcome you towards "The Standard". Be fairly assured as you step inside and your feet touch the cute artifactual black & white tight tile work, you will look up to be warmly greeted on arrival and expected. The menu is a good assortment of wholesome on trend yum with room to grow. Is it me? The whole staff buzzes from kitchen to floor staff with a rare seen synergy. Fantastic. I was impressed with the hours they keep, the hiring manager's skills, the quality glistening kitchen seen pulsating through a bright big picture window complete with an American flag and top of all of that...pride of everything. That made me smile. They are independent but they have strong scaffolding to partner with community, vendors and in speaking with the manager and open minded to up and coming culinary products such as Elk and other concepts. What a platform! Why not give them a try? I will be back on my next cheerful trip to the region and be sure to explore the brunch menu items. Double yum.

On one of our many drives back from Lake Buchanan, my husband and I were craving steak this time so out comes my phone to google restaurants and I found a hidden gem in Bertram called the Standard on Vaughn. We had no expectations being in a smaller community but man o' man this place did NOT disappoint! We were greeted by friendly hostesses and Our server James was spectacular! He knew the menu, wine and specials with ease! Our steaks were phenomenal! Our only regret was not knowing about this place sooner and will come back here on our next adventure to the lake!

We stop here for dinner after a day out at a nearby vineyard. We'd been wanting to try this place for some time and took the opportunity of mid-week to try it. I ordered the Airline Chicken and my wife had the double bone pork chop. I also had a wedge salad. Service was friendly and quick. We ordered a Daily special Margarita for her and a filthy martini (vodka) for me. The Margarita was small (not worth the $13) and according to my wife not very good. My martini was ok but not quite filthy as advertised. The wedge salad was large, packed with bacon, tomatoes, and really nice blue cheese dressing. My wife's pork chop meal was large and very tasty. The huge chop was laid on a bed of wild rice and accompanied by a slaw of Brussels sprouts. My chicken was amazing. Tender, juicy, and really tasty. It was laid on a bed of mashed potatoes and accompanied by roasted Brussels sprouts. Overall it was a great meal, but next time we'll pass on the drinks. Ambiance 9/10 Service 10/10 Food 10/10 Drinks 7/10 Overall 8/10

Our lunch date to The Standard on Vaughan was everything ! The restaurant has the best vibe. The decor is amazing. Our server was so sweet. I ordered the club sandwich to share. It was just great. The fries were top notch. My husband ordered Farmer Keith's Breakfast. He was pleasantly surprised they served it with grits, and ate every bite. Our server said we needed to visit for dinner too, can't wait.

We went on Valentine's Day. I know I'm late on posting. This place is amazing! We had a 4 course meal. Our waitress was wonderful. She kept checking in on us. The ambiance was nice too they have a decent size bar area and had TCM station playing Some like it Hot with Marilyn Monroe Classic movie. Overall I rate this experience as a classy establishment hidden gem in Bertram Tx.

Second time I have been here and consistently good food in a nice restaurant. I do recommend making reservations and they seem to fill up quickly. They have a bar area and a dining room. We were seated in the dining area which is very comfortable and pretty well lit. We arrived around 5:30 but they turn down the lights at a certain point and it's a bit darker than I would prefer. They have a large drink selection and some craft drinks. I like Old Fashioned drinks but you need a quality bourbon; they use Four Roses and they make an amazing Old Fashioned so I would assume the rest of their drinks are good. They have a good list of appetizers; we have tried the deviled eggs and those are very good. This visit we tried the Spinach Artichoke Dip and the Bruschetta. Warning: the Spinach Artichoke Dip is big enough for four people. Our server told us we would likely take some of it home which in fact we did do. However, for both the dip and bruschetta, the pita chips and bread were very stale/old. We even asked for some fresher bread for the bruschetta and our server only brought out more of the same. It's amazing that such a nice restaurant would serve stale/old bread and pita chips. And the pita chips weren't crispy as would have been preferred with the dip. The bread that came with the bruschetta was stale. So unfortunate because the sides themselves were quite good. For a starter, we had a wedge salad; like the starters, this is quite big. It comes with plenty of blue cheese dressing and it was very good. For our entrees, we both ordered the Filet Mignon medium rare. This is my second time dining here and my second time having the Filet Mignon medium rare. It isn't. What I was served both times is medium... borderline medium well. I didn't say anything the first time I ate here but this most recent was with someone different and the first thing they said when cutting into the steak is "this isn't medium rare". There is absolutely no pink center so whatever you normally order, go one less. It would be interesting to see how the steak would come out if ordered rare instead of medium rare. It's unfortunate because the beef seems to be quality meat. For sides, we had the marinated and grilled mushrooms and asparagus. The mushrooms were a big disappointment. They didn't taste like fresh mushrooms but rather something out of a can. But they came marinated in a dark gravy type of sauce. I have never had mushrooms served any other way than marinated in garlic butter with possibly a bit of white wine. But these small pieces of mushrooms instead of fresh cremini mushrooms either sauteed whole or sliced in half. The grilled asparagus was excellent. They have a decent dessert menu and we had the 3-layer chocolate cake which was more than enough for two people. Really nice restaurant but disappointing with some of the ingredients such as the bread and pita chips not being fresh, over cooked steaks (twice) and a dark gravy used for "marinated" mushrooms. But, I do still recommend this restaurant. It is quite a nice restaurant but you can come fairly casual.

Living locally we generally have to head in for dinner. We have been excited to observe the positive reviews and consistency with which the parking on Vaughn has been occupied. We decided to have a Friday date night, as per usual they were busy. Per recommendations from reviews we made a reservation and were seated immediately. We were sat on the bar side at high tops, we are both blessed with long legs so we were nice and comfy. The building is beautiful, I think I read somewhere it's a nice blend of new and old and I agree 100%. In a small town, I appreciate the effort to respect the grace of the older building's. Our waitress was prompt and quickly delivered drinks and homemade table chips. The chips had some seasons on them, good flavor, not over whelming. For appetizer we had the spinach dip, a favorite of the misters. It had fresh spinach and was topped with bread crumbs. Served with fried pita bread. Good flavor, very generous serving. We enjoyed it, but didn't tackle even half. For dinner we tried the pork chop and picancha steak, with a side of macaroni and cheese (sides are separate and family style). It did take a bit to get our food, it's a Friday night and they had a pretty solid seating. It wasn't terrible and we didn't mind. It is a longer building than wider and with a good set of tables it was a bit loud. They have music going and two large tv's above the bar. All in all just a solid Friday night crowd in a small town. When the food came, presentation was solid, and portions large. The pork chop is a double bone in, it was cooked perfectly. Highly recommend the macaroni and cheese, grateful for the portion size--very creamy. My steak was perfect, it was served with a sauce, not sure what it was, didn't ask or taste, I didn't need it! I wanted to try the dessert--it looked amazing, we were just too full. Overall good dinner, good service and super close to home for us. The food is good quality, it is a bit more expensive for the town but not off par with a nice restaurant in Austin area.

Great place with fantastic ambiance, atmosphere, charming, warm with incredibly personable staff. Came in for the first time and felt right at home like a local repeat customer on the first try. We were seated and got immediate attention where we started with the deviled eggs. Just loved the touch of truffle and were perfect. We followed with a jumbo shrimp cocktail that was again perfectly cooked with a traditional catsup based sauce presented on a dish, not a cocktail glass. I thought afterward should have ordered some horseradish sauce to spice it up, maybe next time. We had a few old fashions from the bar and they were again really good and came with a single artisan ice cube in the whiskey glass. The entrees were some of their steaks that are really the highlight of the evening that were way larger than I expected the cuts to be and were unable to completely finish as the sides are huge too. Couples should consider just splitting the entrees especially if it's steak and just share a single side so you have room for dessert. The portions are so generous it's a challenge to actually not take leftovers home. We loved this place for dinner and will have to come back soon for either the breakfast or the lunch.

We actually found it pretty last minute and decided to go early since we knew we'd be taking photos and didn't want to deal with crowds. When we arrived, it was pretty quiet, which honestly worked out perfectly for us. The décor is bold and eclectic in the best way, think velvet booths, curated gallery walls, low lighting, and these amazing feathered chandeliers that tie the whole space together. We ordered the Tiger Lilly cocktail and the Elote, both were fantastic. The drinks are not only pretty but good, which isn't always a given in places that are more vibe-forward. Ours were balanced, flavorful, and well-presented. The DJ was there, early, which was a nice surprise, it gave the whole place some life without being overwhelming.
