Service was friendly and knowledgeable. That was quite possibly the best steak I've ever had and the dining area and bar are absolutely stunning. It was quite busy, but then again, we did go on a Saturday night. Clearly, it's the place to be! Considering the level of service and the chef's expertise, we found the place reasonably priced. No, it's by no means a bargain, but the food was INSANELY good. My only complaint was the time to get the food out. Our reservation was for 7 PM and we left the restaurant at 8:50. We only had an appetizer and the meal. We took our dessert to-go because we were ready to get on home. I think we will try for either an earlier or later time or maybe a different night. However, like I said, the staff was all so lovely and it's just a beautiful space. I kept saying to my husband "omg, can you believe this is Bertram?!"...since I grew up there. We shared the baked Brie, the wedge, he had steak and I had a pork chop. Then we had the Dauphinoise potatoes...holy smokes... the French version of potatoes au gratin with heavy cream and thinly sliced potatoes... divine! We finished up with the lemon cream cake. It seemed like a close cousin to the lemon cream cake they used to serve at Olive Garden...don't know if they still do, but dang, it was good. My wife and I ate here this evening for our anniversary. We live nearby and thought we'd try it. Glad we did! We had an anniversary card waiting for us on our table, and scored a free dessert! We picked the devilled eggs for our appetizer and they were excellent - creamy and very tasty given the included truffles. We both ordered the ribeye for our mains, along with the asparagus. The steak was outstanding, full of flavor. The staff were friendly but casual and not overbearing. We met the GM who was very welcoming.and gave us somebackground info about the place.. Pros: Great ambience. Brussel sprouts, picanha steak, Mac & cheese all very tasty. Con's: Very dry and bland airline chicken. I politely requested some type of gravy and they brought out chicken broth. It was a bit better, I suppose. But the big problem was the service. We were there on a Wednesday night and it was busy but not crowded. There were empty tables around. After our food was served our waiter disappeared. At the end of the meal, I finally got a second glass of water. I won't go back, but perhaps you should try it and maybe you will have better luck... Just don't order the chicken. read more

Definitely on the mid-to-pricey range but a perfect spot for a date night, special occasion, etc. I had the salmon and my husband had the shrimp and grits special, which were both absolutely amazing with generous portions. We were celebrating a birthday. Five entrees and five disappointments. Both steak dinners did not have the same doneness throughout, both mahi and salmon were dry and the special was inedible. Salad, macaroni and cheese, service and drinks were the highlight of the evening. Prices did not reflect quality nor price charged. Ambiance did not represent a high end restaurant. Came in on a Saturday afternoon at 3pm with a group of 6 people. The restaurant was completely empty except for 2 couples at the bar, but there were reserved signs on all the tables. We told the hostess that we wanted to get a few rounds of drinks and some appetizers, and were told they could only seat us at the bar. So we sat at the bar, ordered our first round of drinks, and quickly realized that the bar was not an easy place for us to talk amongst our group of 6, so I asked the hostess if we could move to a table, as the restaurant was completely empty. She told me that they were all reserved for dinner (in 2+ hours) and so they couldn't seat us at a table, which seemed weird because it was 3pm and we could have easily left by 4:30 to not disrupt their reservations that night. Apparently they are a restaurant that is incapable of turning over a table between parties. There was one table at the back of the bar without a reserved sign that was empty except for a computer sitting on it. We asked the bartender if we could sit there and she said no, because that's where the manager likes to sit. (Never saw the manager sitting there at all, just his computer.) So we closed out after our single round of drinks and left. We would have easily spent $250 but the sale obviously wasn't important to them as they seemed very disinterested in accommodating us and preferred to have a completely empty restaurant until their dinner rush. The only reason for 2 stars is because there was a sweet lady at the hostess stand who was very apologetic and seemed like the only one who cares if they have customers. Next time we will take our gusts and money elsewhere. read more

I have never written a review for a restaurant before but this experience was so bad that i decided to say something. We had been wanting to try Standard on Vaughan for a while and decided to make reservations on New Years Eve. We knew that restaurants often offer a reduced menu on holidays but since there was no mention of it on their website we had our expectations on the full SoV experience. When we arrived, not only were we shocked to find that they did in fact have a reduced menu, but they had a completely different menu with nothing from their standard menu. No appetizers, no desserts and only 6 offerings 2 breakfasts, a hamburger, a wrap, a short rib and toasted brie. When we said something to the hostess, we were told "yeah, a lot of people have said that they were surprised" and that was it. This was quite literally a scaled down Denny's menu in every way except the prices which were were stupid expensive for the meager offerings. I don't mind paying $20 for a hamburger if there are appetizer and dessert options to go with it. This was a money grab plain and simple and a complete disservice to their customers. We would like to try SoV again, but how can you trust a group of managers that are willing to pull this big of a bait and switch without even acknowledging it. I'd say go at your own risk, or call ahead and see if they are serving what they advertise for your evening. read more

Awful experience ! Pretentious... poor service and the open window cooking let us view our steak being plated bare handed. Fail ! After an hour of only receiving our appetizer and one drink we asked about our meal. Watched the waitress ask the chefs through the open window concept and viewed our steaks being plated with bare hands. Macaroni and cheese appeared dry and run of the mill, our other side was not even ready. Not only was this the case but the waitress rolled her eyes when we asked for management! We refused the meal completely ( so I can't criticize that ) and anything further and paid for the drinks and the deviled eggs that took 30min. The deviled eggs were bland and nothing your mom couldn't make 10x better ! And they wouldn't have cost 9$ for 5 halves and a handful of micro greens and sprinkle of paprika ! Beautiful restored building with bar and dining area. The concept is great but you are clearly unable to serve to the caliber that your menu and prices let your patrons believe they will get !!! 44$ for a rib eye. No side orders come with , you must order those separate and were told at that time charge for sauces ! ( we didn't ask ) If your steak is great we would not need any ! You're not that STEAKHOUSE ! Chincy at best ! In the end you're certainly not delivering what you portray in concept in food or service. Your kitchen staff is plating with their hands and wiping them on their pants after !!! Abd your waitresses are rolling their eyes at patrons. Your standards don't match, Standard ! Keeping up the appearance but lacking in quality for sure ! So very disappointing ! read more

Beautiful decor and lovely ambiance. Spacious and comfy. Very cool bar with a wide variety of cocktails. Attentive staff. Very limited menu but that's just fine for me. Salmon was perfectly cooked. Asparagus and grits were delicious as well. Ribeye was an excellent cut of meat and perfectly cooked as well. Mashed potatoes were nicely done with good texture and buttery. Each filet was a most excellent cut of meat - tender and delicious but both undercooked. It seems like the cut is so think, it may be difficult to cook properly. My friend ate his but I had to send mine back as it was just about raw on the inside. Came back still a bit underdone but was delicious. Quality of food was exceptional, perhaps the use of a meat thermometer may assist with cooking the filets to perfection the first time. The Standard on Vaughan is a pleasant surprise is an area of Bertram that will benefit greatly from having such a gem in town. It is definitely bringing a crowd to Bertram. read more

I am writing this review as a displaced food snob from Austin. This place has just about everything you want; cocktails, appetizers, wines, main course, and desserts. It was crowded on a Wednesday night (just two empty tables) and yet you could have a conversation and actually hear what was being said. Very professional staff (one of which was trained at a Michelin star restaurant). We started with the Voodoo Magic and New Your Sour cocktails (3.5/5). The spinach/artichoke dip appetizer (4.8/5) came next with a main course of pan seared, skin-on Atlantic salmon, grilled asparagus, with creamy chive grits (4.4/5) paired with some very good wines by the glass. We finished with a 3 layer chocolate cake (4.7/5) and a lemon Italian Cream Cake (?/5)(we were too full to eat it there, so we brought it home). More than generous portions and all for $130.00. Simply put, this is THE CULINARY OASIS north of Austin. It beats ANYTHING in Georgetown, Cedar Park, Leander, Liberty Hill, Marble Falls, and Burnet. It is absolutely worth the drive.
