Ten years ago, I saw the potential of my 1920's bungalow. I saw it's original features: glass door knobs, six inch moldings, oak floors, and solid wood doors. Yet, these beautiful features were covered by paint, layers of linoleum, multiple mirrors, and wavy carpet. These beautiful features had also been "modernized" by removing moldings and by removing built-in hutch cabinets. I wanted to revive my bungalow's 1920's appeal-Not open an concept design but the original design with cozy rooms, warm woods and symmetrical aesthetics. As a result, I searched for paint removal specialists to reveal wood windows, casements and moldings. The first specialist I spoke with declined to give a project price due to the extensive labor demands. Yet, Moses had no problem giving me a project price. Since that time, Moses and his crew have done extensive work on my home including removal of paint from windows, casements, and moldings, re-fabrication of missing moldings, window, built in hutch cabinets, and stair tread, removal of linoleum, wood floor refurbishment, construction of built in bookshelves, development of fireplace surround, and ramp creation for my special needs dog. As an artist, I have drawn designs down to the millimeter. I have specified the wood seams, and I have requested particular materials. In response, Moses has welcomed my input. I have an antique dining room set that I have been wanting to repair and refinish, but I didn't just wanted to take it anywhere to have it done unless I was absolutely sure that it was a place I could trust for my precious dining room set. I had custom doors from my 1950's home refurbished by Moises and his very talented team. I could not have been more pleased with the patience they exhibited with me. I am not always the most decisive person. Moises was able to offer suggestions and materials that would create the best look for these doors. The craftsmanship with the wood work was impeccable. Such great care and craft given to every detail. I do believe there was something personal taking place with Moises and his family and the project still continued to run seamlessly. They are coming out in the spring to continue doing work on the exterior of the house and around the door, as there is more word that needs cared for. They also repaired my original 1950's flooring where it had been damaged. I don't know that I would trust anyone else to do this type of work. Super impressed, all around!! We recently relocated and have a very well made, sturdy, all wood, made in America kitchen set and six (6) chairs (table also has an extension leaf). We were trying to decide " should we sell this and 'new purchase' or refinish the existing"? We were a family of six(6) in our former home, but the boys are now all men and have their own lives; but those memories around the table all came rushing back; decision made; refinish it is. My wife did research, found this company , and away we go; they picked up the set from our former residence, we chose the stain, and the finished product was delivered to our new home. Excellent work!! I hired them to reface my cabinets (paint the cabinet frames and build new doors from scratch). I had been getting ridiculously high quotes from other companies and theirs was more reasonable. Moises and his team worked quickly and efficiently and, although not as professionally-groomed as a Home Depot-caliber cabinetry maker they did a wonderful job (again, at a much more reasonable price). Plus I got to afford real wood (as opposed MDF or artificial composite). I even hired them back to construct a fireplace mantle which they did beautifully (at a more competitive price as well). Bottom line: Understand that this is a smaller shop that isn't going to give you a glossy sales pitch; they end up producing an overall better product for the price that you'll certainly be happy with! read more

We are remodeling our kitchen and purchased all new appliances. The new refrigerator was too tall to fit under the cabinet we have above it. Our cabinets are no longer in production so we spent hours looking for a custom wood shop that would be able and willing to shorten the cabinet height. We fell upon a retail cabinet sales force that took a look at our cabinet and suggested that we try the Strip Joynt. We were delighted with their initial response which was "sure we can do that." Up to that point we were ghosted by any custom wood shop we tried to contact. Their estimate was fair and the work was completed within a week. Needed some display shelves for my "pop vinyl" figurines. I had heard about the great work that the Stripp Joynt on Elston did so I paid them a visit. In no time the owners (Moises and his wife Patricia) sat me down and professionally laid out a diagram for the 3-level oak shelves that i envisioned. The price was exceptionally fair and the time frame (2 weeks) seemed more than reasonable. Exactly 2 weeks later the custom shelves were finished and they were a work of art. I could not have been happier with the finished product or the friendly service provided. Their displays of larger projects look awesome. I cannot say enough good things about the quality and timeliness of the work. I had three doors refinished because they were blonde in color and needed to be brought to a red oak to match the other doors in the house. One of my doors needs glass replaced. They had the numerous pieces of glass fabricated and created a product that exceeded my expectations. The doors were delivered by two gentlemen who were respectful and made sure to place the doors down gently without damaging my floors and drywall. I need to get the rest of the doors in the house done now because the newly refinished doors look so much better. read more

My wife and I bought a vintage home in Oak Park and wanted to restore parts of the house back to the original look. That included stripping paint, installing new wood floors, and copying original baseboards. The Stripp Joynt did it all.
