In 2024 a friend of mine, a 1985 World Champion Chicago Bear--Shaun Gayle, with an assist from my law partner, Dan O'Brien, surprised me with a placement of a beautiful teak wood park bench along the Chicago River by the Centennial Fountain in memory of my mother, Angeline Winters, who passed away at age 93 in October, 2023. I have lived at my condo about a block away and for the last 30 years and for the last 15 years of my mother's life she lived with me as she was handicapped and used a wheelchair. Well, the spot where my friend placed the bench was exactly where I would wheel her out for the fireworks every Wednesday and sometimes on Saturday. Well, because it is a beautiful bench and had a plaque with my Mom's name it is used quite often and sometimes people do not respect the bench and so it was wearing down and I needed to have it sanded and retained.... I talked with friends and searched the internet quite thoroughly and found Chicago Wood Refinishing. I saw the website and the work that they displayed and decided to give them a chance and met with Kevin....actually, Kevin came to me at the site of the bench and surveyed the bench's condition and told me what they would be able to do to restore the bench to its original condition. Kevin came out a second time and removed the bench planks and took them back to their business offices, where he and his father did a phenomenal job in bringing the color and quality of the bench back to its first day it was displayed to me in July 2024. Kevin and his dad are fine craftsmen when it comes to wood....any kind of wood. Now my Mom's bench is back in use for those who want a place to sit and think....or to watch the fireworks on Wednesday and sometimes, Saturday night. It was a great experience working with Gerardo and his son Kevin. We did an extensive renovation of our kitchen which involved installing new oak windows, trim, and an augmentation to our existing built-in. My general contractor installed the windows, trim, and cabinets, but he didn't have a reference to wood finisher, which made me nervous about finding someone, so I was very happy that came across Chicago Wood Refinishing on Yelp. Finding skilled craftsman is hard these days, and finding ones who take pride in their work is even harder. Gerardo is passionate about the quality of his work, and it shows. Our project ended up being more work than expected due to the intricacy of it, yet he insisted on sticking to his quote and no corners were cut. The quality is outstanding. The finish he did reminds me of a showcase dining table at Marshall Fields on State Street back in the day. My contractor and interior designer were also amazed. My top priority is quality of product above the cost since I am planning on staying in my house for at least the next 15 years. Chicago Wood Refinishing did an excellent job refinishing kitchen cabinets. The cabinets were nearly 30 years old and had nicks and scratches. Gerrardo and Kevin were very professional, prompt and courteous. They were careful to "tent" part of the kitchen to minimize dust. They did the frames on site and took the doors to their shop to get refinished. The results were outstanding. The cabinets look like they are brand new. We kept the original beautiful cherry finish. Was disappointed with their service and quality. Had them create a customer cabinet panel and replace the drawer slides on a large quantity of cabinets. I was quoted for higher end slides and found upon questioning (after they were installed) that they purchased the cheapest slides they could find. Likewise - on the panel he choose a cheaper piece of wood with several knots. I would have gladly paid a bit extra to have quality materials - seems silly to pay $2000 on labor and have them cut $300 on materials so the result is crappy. Additionally, the drawers were poorly aligned after they finished (didn't open and close smoothly). He did come back and fix one drawer - but still see 2 others which could have been done better. read more

Five stars for Chicago Wood Refinishing! They were a pleasure to work with. I needed a 3-piece all-wood bedroom set refinished and repaired (wood and water damage) and received estimates from 5 companies. I contacted them all via email. While most companies took about 2 weeks to provide the estimate via email, and had several weeks wait time to schedule the work, CWF called me the very next day and were ready to schedule my furniture pickup that weekend. They provided a contact name/number of a prior customer so that I could get a reference before hiring them. The cost of the estimate was lowest out of all five companies I contacted. They require a 50% deposit when picking up the furniture (the remainder to be paid on completion). The job was done beautifully and was completed within one week of hiring. The furniture looks brand new! (see the before and after photos). I accidentally left some clothes in one of the drawers, and they returned them to me unharmed (wrapped in plastic so they wouldn't get damaged). My main contact by phone was Yesenia and she was very responsive to communicate with (phone and email). One minor thing to note: they asked for two additional days due to the repair happening over the July 4th holiday, but they let me know this in advance, and because of the delay, they were accommodating on when to deliver the furniture back to me (they came on the first available weeknight in the early evening). I would definitely recommend CWF and hope that this review brings them some more well-deserved customers! read more

One of our to do items since we bought our house in 2017 was to strip the original pine doors. We finally did it and used Chicago Wood Refinishing. I called and they indicated that I could send photos via text and they would provide a quote. I texted and received a quote that day. We asked for pick-up and delivery and they came within a few days to take out doors back to their workshop. After two weeks they dropped the doors back off. They are gorgeous. Gerardo and Ivan's team restored 2 office chairs and a rocking chair for me. While the desk chairs were in fair condition, the rocking chair had seen better days when I dropped it off (water stains, cracks, chew marks, etc.). Well, after just two weeks (keep in mind it was the middle of the holiday season), all three chairs were delivered looking brand new. They even matched the stain to a sample I had provided! While I found Chicago Wood Refinishing online, I did end up taking a pine dining table with 2 leaves to be refinished. They did a wonderful job and I was very happy with how it turned out.
