The flagpole returns to its original state.

Fortune has maintained the oldest house in Chicago for many years. Please feel free to visit the Noble-Seymour-Crippen House at 5624 N. Newark and see their expert work. Fortune understands that working on a building that is a City of Chicago Landmark and a building on the National Register of Historic Places requires care and commitment. The Norwood Park Historical Society is grateful for our long term partnership and our grand house thanks them too.

Trim is pulling away from windows and we're taking in water

Stay away from this company. Their estimate came in higher than others and we went with them because we thought they'd provide better window installation quality. We were totally wrong. They messed up the installation multiple times, extremely dishonest in the contract and after only three years our windows are already falling apart. All for 30k. Not worth it. Now they refuse to respond to any of our calls or emails.

    Existing metal soffit and fascia

I've used Fortune Restoration in the past when I managed condominium buildings. After seeing the cedar siding work they did on a friend's house I decided to call Tom Fortune for my own residence. Tom took the time to listen and called his lead carpenter to discuss the various siding and trim options. He was able to write the estimate on the spot. They started quickly and there were no delays once they began. Their crews were communicative and professional. Tom also stopped by regularly to inspect the workmanship and make sure I was satisfied. Fortune removed the existing metal siding on the house, replaced the soffit and fascia with PVC which was quite labor intensive, sided the gable ends and small front dormer with cedar, stained the new cedar, and painted all the new trim and exterior windows. They left the area in very good condition. I'm very pleased with their responsiveness and quality of the work and recommend them without reservation.

We contact multiple vendors to come and looks at the issue, but none were as thorough and experienced as Mark and his team. From the beginning to end, the experience has been stellar. Mark arrived to look at the issue promptly. He was able to identify the issue accurately and was honest about the necessary scope of the remediation work. (Other vendors suggest a smaller fix which ,in hindsight, would not have solved our issue in the long run and would require additonal work later on) Throughout the entire process, he constantly communicated the progress of the work and kept us update on the schedule, something that we appreciate since its the first time we have to deal with mold and water issues. Last but not least, Mark and his team take great care in carrying out the work and handling our belongings in the work area. If you need any restoration work done, I definitely recommend Quality Assurance Restoration.

I was never told my built-ins would be completely removed, I only discovered it after the fact. Had I known, I could have arranged for proper removal, but instead they were torn out in a way that left them unsalvageable, costing me thousands to replace. Afterward, the company pointed to the notes fine print rather than acknowledging the lack of communication. If you use them, insist on a clearly explained scope of work. If you rely on professionals to help you navigate confusing home repairs, like myself, these aren't your guys. Update to response: First, I want to be clear that I don't believe Adam or the company ever acted with any intent to mislead me or cause harm. I think this situation came down to a lack of communication that unfortunately left me in a difficult position. About 90% of what Adam said in his response is true, but none of it directly addresses my actual concern. The real issue is whether the company made sure I fully understood the scope of work. Perhaps Adam thought... what idiot would not see it was obvious that the entire built-ins would need to be removed? Hi... it's me, I'm the idiot and truly I had no idea. I thought only a portion of my ceiling would be affected. Given the huge difference between what I understood and what actually happened, I believe the company should have explained this much more clearly. Like many homeowners, I rely on professionals to explain the scope of work in plain terms. I think that's a reasonable expectation. Adam is correct with my quote below but he left out the part where I explained that my issue was solely that I didn't know the built-ins were being removed. This was never clearly communicated to me, nor was I given the opportunity to remove them properly myself. Because of that, I feel my ability to make informed decisions was taken away. I only reached out to Adam directly later, after another contractor told me the closet could have been saved and that the removal was "unnecessarily destructive." Whether that's true or not, I'll never know. because I wasn't given the chance to find out. To clarify, the note about the built-ins wasn't hidden in "fine print," but it was only mentioned once in the "Other Notes" section. It was never discussed verbally, by email, or over the phone, and it wasn't included in the detailed action items. I don't think a single mention buried in a notes section qualifies as meaningful disclosure, especially when no one pointed it out or explained its implications. Perhaps Adam does. Lastly, the other points raised, like the quality of the closet materials, water damage, or insurance support, are not relevant to my concern. My issue has always only been about the lack of clear communication regarding the scope of work. Thank you.

So, if you're reading this, we have something in common. I will try and be as succinct as possible (almost impossible for me) The date was September 26, 2024. I live in Saint Petersburg Florida and the reports were coming in that hurricane Helene would hit my area. I have been living here for 8 years, so after living through 8 years of hurricane seasons and hearing about the big one that would hit Tampa Bay this year, I shrugged my shoulders and decided to stay in my house. That evening the winds were blowing the waves in the bay crashing against the sea walls. No big deal, I've seen it before. My wife, my dog and I were all tucked in bed safely knowing that my full house generator would kick in if the winds got too bad. All of a sudden, I started getting cold and wet and realized that there was water up to the top of my bed. UH OH. At day break after the hurricane subsided and I was able to get to my front door. I realized that we had over 3 feet of water in the house. This was the most catastrophic event in my life and in Tampa Bays life. I quickly called my friends to come and rescue us. My cars were flooded and we were trapped. My brother called me that morning to see how we were doing. One of his best friends is a 20+ year retired public adjuster (I had never even heard of one). His exact words to me were... "Don't even think about dealing with your insurance company without hiring a public adjuster". He gave me Ron's number at A. Schoeneman & Co. This had to be the best advice I had ever gotten from my big brother (I am in my 60's); I could not imagine dealing with all of this without the help of Ron and his team. I watched all of my friends going crazy dealing with their insurance companies (writing lists of their stuff etc....) I also listened to some of the settlements they were getting. How would I rebuild? Ron's team came to my house the day my insurance companies' adjuster was there to evaluate my losses. The details of my belongings being logged for hours upon hours. Once I saw the report that Ron and his team submitted to my insurance company, I finally was able to breath. The details were astounding! Finally, the settlement came in. It was pretty much exactly what I "valued" my belongings at. So, if you jumped to the end of this review. Here is my recommendation to you. If you made it through your catastrophic event and are ready to call your insurance company. Stop reading this and pick up the phone and Call A. Schoeneman & Co. you will not be sorry. This is what they do. They speak insurance (trust me you don't)! I have given Ron permission to give out my phone number if you want to speak to me about my experience.
