Had a great experience during my first cut here. I thought this was gonna be my spot. Had a great experience the first time. I took pictures and saved them in hopes I could ensure the same cut in the future. Today I returned for my clean up. I showed the her the photos of her great work to be sure we were on the same page. Unfortunately, I think I might have failed to be as thorough as necessary. This haircut was quite different- and not the clean up as was expecting. Ever since my favorite nail salon in the valley closed down last year I've been struggling to find a good place to get my nails done, I went salon to salon leaving disappointed until I tried this place. My fiancé gets his hair done here and he loves it, he surprised me with an appointment with Nancy about a month ago, and she blew me away! I tried a new technique which is an alternative to acrylics. It's a gel based technique that doesn't damage nails like acrylics do. Nancy was so kind, she provided me with the many options of colors and styles she has available. What stood out to me the most was her ability to shape every single nail in the same exact way. It sounds simple but trust me every salon I've been to has an issue with shaping. I would leave other places having different shaped nails which is annoying to a perfectionist like me. Nancy did a fantastic job, she's very nice and professional, and she's great at her craft. I have been going to Christopher styles for the last 2 1/2 years. I have gotten services from Brent, Erica and Laura. I am so impressed with this barbershop because of their professional and fun attitude. From the three people that I have received haircuts from, I have been more than satisfied with how sharp they make me look. From Brent's smooth and meticulous fades, Erica's and Laura's styling as well as their amazing customer service, I miss their work when I'm out of town and I have to go to another place. Erica has been my main stylist and haircutter and she always listens to what kind of style I request, but also advises me if I have unrealistic expectations of a certain look. In my experience it's rare to have a stylist who really pays attention to every little detail and tries to accommodate, not only your haircut you get when you walk out, but also the way it'll grow out and look over time. Her work always makes me feel better looking than I actually am. As for Laura, she has a great energy and is super detailed when it comes to color and getting the style you are looking for. She has advised me on various techniques with blowdryers and products that I should use for the kind of look I want, which has been extremely helpful. Besides their work, one thing that impresses me every time I go in, is how much fun everyone looks like they are having. Even when it's their day off many of their staff come in to say hi or clean up their station, which tells me how dedicated to they are. Easy parking. Incredible and professional staff. I went to several other shops and finally found Chris on Yelp. And who knew it was around the corner from where I live! This place is the real deal with barbers that know what the heck they are doing. I have seen Chris, Laura and Chase. They all have their own suites now, so a little different than the open concept. You know those scenes in old black-and-white films where a woman is screaming into the camera because a monster or blob is coming for her? I'm going to let you in on a secret: it wasn't a monster. She was screaming about having to find a new hair stylist. That's right. One of the biggest horrors in life is having to find a new person to trust with scissoring your hair. I had called my usual salon to learn that my stylist (supposedly) up-and-left without leaving her forwarding information for clients and they aren't sure when she would be back. THE HORROR! I screamed into the proverbial camera. Naturally I turned to Yelp to start my research into finding a new salon (even if temporarily) which is how Christopher Styles Barber Spa came into the picture. Christopher Styles is located within a strip plaza at the Riverside/Whitsett intersection across the street from the Valsurf. I initially called and spoke to a receptionist to inquire about their services. I'm very picky with stylists and salons because A) I've worked front desk at a salon myself so I know the secrets and B) I have a pixie haircut and I assure you: NOT all stylists are skilled at pixies. I'm actually comfortable with salons whom identify as barber shops because the stylists tend to be comfortable with pixies. The receptionist was kind, informative, and patiently dealt with my nervousness. Christopher Styles is priced in the barber shop range similar to Floyd's and Rudy's ($30 for men and $50 for women) so I decided to try it out and made an appointment with Erica. Christopher Styles is somewhat small in real estate (longer than it is wide) but has a cool, hip and urban vibe to it with clean esthetics and trendy decor. The receptionist (perhaps the same I spoke with the phone?) was welcoming and asked if I needed something to drink. The shop was VERY busy (2:30pm on a Friday) and there wasn't even really much seating space in the lobby. Christopher Styles is not recommended for those who prefer space. Erica was ready for me in her chair and I explained my situation with my stylist. I also explained exactly how I like my hair (using the proper salon terms) and showed her photos. She was receptive and listened to me and asked for elaboration if needed, which I appreciated. The session was a bit awkward and forced similar to a first date (in fact, she even compared it to that) but she was great with not just hacking my hair and instead asking if something was okay, should we go shorter, is that how I like it, etc. That's exactly how a stylist should be at which she excelled. I just didn't necessarily feel she was "hitting it on the mark". One of the most annoying things which some of you may roll your eyes at was that Erica was chewing gum the whole time and popping it. I suffer from Misophonia and have my entire life (the aversion to the sounds of chewing and most negative sound, in general). Gum chewing is my biggest pet peeve so I was losing it but didn't feel I should ask her to throw it out so I didn't say anything. Aside from my Misophonia, I find gum chewing at ANY workplace to be unprofessional especially when you are a stylist and in my personal space/face the whole time. This definitely wasn't working for me. So how did the haircut turn out? It isn't bad and is solid and decent enough. I'm not blown away amd it isn't exactly how I like it but I'm not complaining either. It's right in the middle. In relation to me paying less than my usual cost; it is on par with the price for sure. The best sum-up is to say that Christopher Styles is a great alternative to Floyd's or Rudy's as it is more on the salon side but with barber shop-skill level. I would say it is better for children or men but not necessarily women who desire higher-salon service. Again... it isn't bad at all and it a good choice but not necessarily something I clicked with or super compelled to return to. Or perhaps I would but with a different stylist. Either way, I do recommend it if seeking a cool barber shop- salon. As for me, I think my search for a salon continues or I have to cross my fingers that my stylist returns... read more

I got cut by Rob, terrible job. He uses a charm to rush you off the chair like it's all cool. I came in with an obvious overgrown head. I asked for a 1 fade and some inches to be cut off the top. Is she the coolest, chillest, most laid-back, easy to chat with stylist whose chair you'll ever sit in? Yes. Is she friendly and professional and always goes the extra mile to make sure you're satisfied before you go back to your miserable pre-haircut life? Yes! But she's mine! GET YOUR OWN APOLONIA! Why don't you just come to this salon... err, "Barber Spa" (I didn't know that was a thing)... because there's a familial environment where everyone is super friendly, but not in an annoyingly fake Hollywood way, and they give amazing styles and cuts for reasonable prices. And I saved the best for last -- coffee! They serve you coffee while you're waiting, while you're getting your hair cut, while you're using the bathroom (I assume... haven't tested that yet). Apparently you can get beer (or stronger) too... but I drink coffee, and they serve coffee, so it's a match made in... well, Valley Village. This place is very nice, but I wasn't satisfied with my cuts the two time I went here. To be specific, my hair cut wasn't bad, but the beard game here is weak. First time I went the guy didn't do a horrible job, it was ok, but this last time. Another barber over trimmed my beard & very unevenly. He asked if I wanted my neck cleaned & I said "yes, of course" & next thing I knew he was shaving my upper back. Worst part actually was when I got back to work I realized he didn't even clean around my ears. I had to do it myself.::palm2face:: You might ask why I didn't notice it there & simple answer is I was to damn focused on how short my beard got. Randomly found this place on Yelp. Decided to give a go after seeing all the positive reviews, their Instagram full of happy customer and employees and how they represented themselves on Facebook. Yup, I'm crazy... But finding a hair stylist needs detectives work! A good one is hard to find! I called to see of they had any appointments available Saturday morning last minute and they are able to squeeze me in. I was greeted promptly by Lana, who remembered me on the call. I was about 15 mind early but Erica was able to get straight to work with me. She asked me what I wanted, I showed her my mood board and she got right to it! It was a quick cut since I have short hair but it was efficient and what I wanted. She asked questions a lot during the cut to make sure everything was right. What I love about this place was that everyone had a smile on their face. Customers came in with high fives, fist pumps and hugs. It's a real nice welcoming atmosphere.
