Came here to purchase some competitive two piece women swimsuits today, specifically from the brand Jolyn. They had a wide selection here, I ended up going with a top that had a little bit more coverage and no tie in the back to make it easy to put on, in black. I got bottoms that were this blue tie-dye color. They have a lot of goggles here that I haven't really seen in any stores really. They have Swedish goggles, which are really good for keeping water out of your eyes, but I personally prefer speedo vanquishers. I already have a pair that I retrofitted with some bungee straps, but good to know that they have them here in case they get messed up. In addition to suits and goggles, they also have a wide variety of swim caps in various materials, such as silicone, latex, and Lycra. The worker was very helpful with explaining the care for caps as well as the differences between different materials. I went with latex because it's generally harder to slip off, though silicone is a bit more sturdy and harder to rip, it always slides off my head and lends to a difficult swimming session. I would say, if you're looking for anything swim related, especially for a lap swimming or competitive swimming, come here and you'll find everything you'll need! read more

I got all the way to my daughter's friend's swim birthday party and forgot to pack my own swimsuit! I looked around for local swimsuit stores and didn't want to spend my life's savings on a swimsuit at the end of the summer! My friend suggested The Swim Guy and I called to find out if they carry my size, and how much do they run... well, both answers were positive. I was able to get there, grab 2 suits to try on, walked out of there under $50 with a super cute and shape flattering suit in about 20 min. Customer service was great, and I overheard a conversation with another customer where they gave no hassle for a return. I will absolutely shop there for myself and my kids in the future! read more

OK this review is a bit overdue. I've been into this store many times over many years. I was in there today for an issue on some goggles that I had just purchased last week, obviously no reflection (no pun intended) on the shop as they don't make them. Uninteresting details aside, the bottom line was both the Owner Michael as well as his associate went above and beyond to resolve my issue instantly, on the spot and with a great attitude to boot. I needed some swim goggles and found this place via yelp. The staff was welcoming and helpful. They helped me try on a few different goggles and adjusted the straps to ensure a good fit. I did a lot of research before stopping by and had an idea of what I wanted and am glad they carried the brand. VERY DISAPPOINTING! I bought two pairs of expensive goggles for my daughter so she could have the proper gear for her new swim team. They both leaked immediately. I went back to THE SWIM GUY one week after purchasing the goggles and they would not accept a return nor an exchange because they had been used. Yes, they were used once and failed to keep water out of my daughters eyes, which is why I wanted to return them - because they didn't function as they were supposed to. I am extremely disappointed that THE SWIM GUY does not stand by the products they sell. They don't care if they sell faulty products to their customers. I have gone to this business for years, as my kid is a swimmer. From day one, the owner has been nothing but rude, and condescending. If you have questions or don't know about a product, the owner will get very short fused and talks down to you. Especially if you are unfamiliar with a product or sport, or ask questions. Small business with great merch at good prices, but not worth the abysmal treatment. The owner (bald man with glasses behind counter) is imperious, insulting, cantankerous, and completely disinterested in customer service. I was interested in purchasing a snorkel for my dad but was unfamiliar with the different brands. The owner stayed behind the counter the whole time and "assisted me" by informing me of my ignorance and that I was wasting his time with questions. I quickly got the feeling that my presence as a paying customer was interfering with his very important work behind the counter, so I left and told my dad to get the snorkel himself. Lo and behold, later that day I get a call from my parents telling me about the asshole they just dealt with at the swim store! From what I understand this business mainly deals in direct orders with competitive swim teams. Why politely engage with a walk-in customer when it's clearly more lucrative to focus on larger team orders? SwimGuy Outlet needs to boot the storefront model and operate their business 100% online so no one else makes the mistake of wandering into this establishment expecting to be treated with a modicum of respect. Previous reviewers warning of the terrible attitude of the owner are 100% correct. I checked the reviews today because I was curious if other CUSTOMERS had encountered the same abuse by the owner. Turns out I am not alone. Two stars. The only reason it's two and not zero, is because of Craig (employee) and his kindness. The owner's behavior was beyond anything I've experienced as an adult, mother or professional and I am not exaggerating. I had ordered two suits, neither had arrived. Store was not at fault for one of them. I was not upset - just needed to get a suit because I was at a meet with my kid who had no suit. I was even prepared to pay AGAIN. I had to hold the phone away from my ear because he was yelling so loudly. He was condescending, controlling, cantankerous and down right abusive. He had Craig give me a suit all while he was screaming at me. I would have paid in a heartbeat if it meant I could avoid his treatment. I don't know who the owner is, but the one male employee never got up from the cash register, and the female employee saw me trying to look for briefs, but never offered any help. Got my son a swimsuit that was one size too small for him after the guy that worked there insisted that that's his size and that I should NOT get bigger size . after one use my son head deep marks on his legs and during his swimming class he Was distracted by the tightness of it and it bothered him the all time . Well nothing good to say about the store. Walked in and was received by the owner. Who was rude, unprofessional and just down right an asshole. I walked in excited to buy a drug suit and a race suit. But when he didn't have my size he just insulted me and told me I didn't know anything about swim suits. Which I found funny and sad. Point being don't shop at this store. Today was the first time I've ever gone in, and I went with a recommendation from a friend of mine who swims on both a club team and school team. I didn't need any competitive wear, just suits and supplies for a new PE unit. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a quirky employee, but she was extremely knowledgeable and gave me a ton of informative recommendations and it made me feel much more comfortable, especially since I was in there only for recreational swimming. We were running to water polo and my 11 year old son informed me his suit had hole in it. Of course, on the way to practice. I was going to head to Big 5, but I wanted to try this place out before to look for swim gear and I prefer to support a local business. They have a large selection of suits and gear , the lady who was working that Sunday was very helpful and gave me good advice regarding goggles. Being a parent of a year round, competitive swimmers for more than 8 years, I know my way around a swim shop. Mike at the Swim Guy not only bends over backwards to get my kids' gear as quickly and as reasonably as possible for their personal use, for their club team, and for their high school team. Few people realize the lengths Mike and Craig go to, in order to facilitate team/ custom designs, and expedite orders through the store. I'm grateful that we have a swim store in Santa Monica, where we can purchase everything from practice suits and snorkels to elite knee skins for major meets. I've never had a bad experience with The Swim Guy, and I've had the pleasure of designing and placing high school team orders for the past two years. Not many parents volunteer for the job, and it takes, months of planning and weeks of hounding to get all of the orders from the kids in. There is usually a large contingency of swimmers who place their orders extremely late (holding up the entire process), and miraculously the team gets their suits and caps before the first meet each year. The miracle in the equation is The Swim Guy. All of the high school teams are placing and receiving orders at exactly the same time, so in some ways it's probably one of the most chaotic times in the store. But, still The Swim Guy is nothing but accommodating. Thank you, The Swim Guy for outfitting my kids from practice to Nationals, and everything in between! read more

After two days of two malls, thirteen stores and 6 hours of walking, I finally found the one place I needed down the street from my house. The Swim Guy did it, and I am glad about it! They have a variety of swimsuits, googles, swim caps, winter jackets and other stuff! I was so relieved to finally find a place that had lots of styles, affordability and something appropriate for my middle school age daughter. The owner and the employee were helpful and nice. I have been a client of this place until today. The owner treated me so poorly. He talked very badly about the quality of Arena swimsuits comparing them with a local brand. I asked for a bag for my Arena swimsuit and he told me that in Santa Monica nobody asks for bags..... I'm not a local btw. The owner of this place got furious with me when I was asking too many questions about waterproof earbuds. He actually started yelling at me because I'd purchased a waterproof iPod and not the clunky waterproof MP3 kit that he sells in a store. "They suck! You aren't listening to me..how many times do I have to tell you!" I was like, "OK settle down, little fella." I then remembered he had also yelled at me on the phone a few months earlier when I was inquiring about flippers. Today I had the misfortune of having to deal with Mike, the Owner of this establishment. I needed to purchase a swimsuit for my daughter's high school swim team. Apparently the window for this closed 3 weeks ago. Instead of informing me of this fact in a professional manner, this man acted as if I had asked him to move heaven and earth. He treated me with complete disrespect, and became verbally aggressive. I was shocked at his outburst. All I wanted to do was order a swimsuit, and I was met with outrageous insults. I could not believe that this was the owner I was forced to deal with. It is completely incomprehensible how this pathetic man who is so clearly consumed with self-loathing has managed to stay in business for so long. After this incident, I almost felt sorry for him. If you need to buy a swimsuit, I would suggest trying swimoutlet.com. I ordered the exact same suit for a few dollars more than it would have cost at the store, even after factoring in shipping. Oh, and my daughter will have the suit before the rest of her team.
