This spot was amazing--everything from the food to the atmosphere was on point. Service was great, and shoutout to the chef ‍. The flavors were truly authentic, the drinks were next level , and the overall vibe makes it a go-to anytime you're craving real Mexican food .

Anytime you're dealing with a speakeasy, you feel like a VIP, and that's how we felt that evening. What a great way to close out the night, as the vibe and decor are what I'm all about. Do plan ahead with reservations. Our Server from FA & Bartender here hooked it up for us with a special toast and celebration for our anniversary!! VIP Treatment with the 70's to 2000's vibe. The chicken tenders were fire!!! What is lacking on this occasion was service. The server that we had was so unattentative. I have never been in a cocktail lounge in my life and had to beg for drinks. Our server would wait until every drinks was made for all of her tables before bringing out drinks. It was ridiculous. She was nice but seemed high. I ended up only having 2 drinks. We would have ordered more but they have 90min max seating and we didn't event get drinks for the first 30min. No exaggeration. Also one of my drinks I had to send back. My apple martini tasted like soap. It was like they did clean the glass after giving a soap bath. No bueno. So they need to get their service to match the vibe of a true cocktails lounge. Yes it is a 70s vibe but doesn't mean the lackadaisical style service. I would come back and try again. The music, the atmosphere and the food was good. They gotta get these cocktails together and service. We ended up walking to nearby competitors and that was money lost for DDG.

Loved this place!…read more First, we had to change our reservation, and the host could not have been nicer. On a busy Saturday night, he graciously allowed us to push it back by an hour, which we really appreciated. When we arrived, we were immediately impressed. The jungle theme, leopard prints, intimate booths, and dramatic overhead lighting created a fun, unique atmosphere. The service was excellent, the cocktails were delicious, and every dish we ordered was a hit. My son said it may have been the best steak tartare he's ever had (although neither of us was a fan of the plantain chips). It was certainly the best tartare I've had in a very long time, with generous chunks of high-quality steak instead of being overly minced. The baked brie dip was outstanding, the grilled oysters were excellent, and my New York strip was cooked perfectly. My only small criticism is that the oyster appetizer came with just three oysters. For a $19 appetizer, I'd love to see at least four. An even number also makes sharing much easier, although my son generously let me have the extra one! Overall, this is a fantastic concept with great food, great service, and a memorable atmosphere. We can't wait to come back.

We shared the pibil dumplings and the cheddar & kimchi croquettes for the appetizer. Both were really good but had a bit of a kick. For my entree I got the steak and it was cooked perfectly and the chimichurri sauce was so good. Lastly, I got the miso cheesecake for dessert and the flavors were incredible! I love the animal and jungle themed decor in this upscale restaurant. We were seated right next to the big stuffed leopard which was fun. Our waitress was super personable but there were a few service mistakes. My entree was missing the potatoes it was supposed to come with. And when they boxed my meal, they didn't include everything like the salad and chimichurri sauce. Luckily I checked and was able to get everything added, but staff shouldn't be neglecting or throwing away part of my meal. I would definitely come back here though as the ambience and food were top notch!

The most recent was…read moreon a Thursday night around 10:30 p.m. This speakeasy is located on Mill Ave., the center of Tempe's party scene. Because of its location, parking isn't easy. If you're looking for free parking, you're going to have a long walk. Outside of that, you'll have to pay for parking in a garage or metered street parking. Ambiance (4/5): Hint hint. Idle Hands is located inside Devil's Hideaway. A true speakeasy shouldn't have signage outside indicating its location. Unfortunately, there's a sign for Idle Hands outside of Devil's Hideaway which takes away the sense of mystery and intrigue that a true speakeasy provides. Outside of this hiccup, it's a cool speakeasy. It's intimate, with 10 or so seats at the bar and about 10 seats in booths facing the bar. There's a projector screen behind the bar that had mystical motion graphics the first time I stopped by (thinking wizards) and Halloween motion graphics the second time (with it being a day before the holiday). There were some other Halloween decorations up. The only area of improvement? The music often doesn't match the vibe. A lot of the music they were playing on my last visit was Irish music that would be fitting for a pub. Service (4/5): I had the same bartender each time. He knows how to make a good drink and is pretty efficient. When you close out, he only gives you the merchant copy. Which is a pet peeve of mine. Let me get that customer copy too. But overall, a good experience. Especially at a college bar. Food (N/A): I've only had drinks both times. Idle Hands actually doesn't have food, but Devil's Hideaway does. And you're allowed to bring food from there into the speakeasy. Drinks (4.5/5): It's pretty surprising to see a speakeasy on a college campus. I was impressed with the creativity of the menu, both in terms of the ingredients used and the fusion of flavors. I've had a different cocktail each time, and they've all been great. My favorite was one served in a box filled with smoke. Talk about a cool presentation! The hallmarks of a solid speakeasy are elevated cocktails, nice ambiance (dimly lit), an intimate space, and mystery/intrigue. While the intrigue is lacking at Idle Hands, and the music can be improved, they hit it out of the park in the other areas. One of my favorite speakeasies I've been to in Phoenix (and surrounding areas). I am, after all, the self-appointed king of speakeasies. The king gives his stamp of approval.

It's the kind of restaurant that makes getting dressed up feel exciting and worth it, and I absolutely loved that about the experience. It felt like such a perfect date night spot or place to celebrate something special. The servers were also extremely attentive the entire night. Everyone was friendly, professional, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling overbearing. The service honestly matched the upscale atmosphere perfectly and made the whole experience feel even more polished. And OMG... the food. SO SO SO SO SO GOOD. Like genuinely one of those meals where every single bite makes you pause for a second because it tastes that incredible. I got the chicken orzo along with the lime icebox cake for dessert, and both were absolutely amazingggg. The chicken orzo was phenomenal. The lemon flavor throughout the orzo was bright, fresh, and flavorful without being overpowering, and the tomatoes were the PERFECT addition because they balanced everything so well and added a little sweetness and freshness to the dish. But the chicken... wow. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside while still being super juicy and tender inside, which is honestly hard to do. Every component of the dish worked together perfectly. Magnificent is genuinely the best word for it. And the lime icebox cake was the perfect ending to the meal, refreshing, creamy, flavorful, and not too heavy after dinner. Honestly, I'm sitting here craving the food again just looking back at the pictures I took. This is definitely one of those restaurants that sticks in your mind long after you leave.

The restaurant itself is very cute and clearly designed for photos, which matches what I saw on their Instagram. Service overall was fantastic. The food, however, was just okay. I ordered the burrata and fig plate and was told they'd replace the bread with apple slices. I received five very small slices of apple, and when the plate was set down the waitress said she'd get more if needed. I later noticed I was charged $2 for an additional five slices, which together didn't even amount to half an apple. Ironically, the bread that comes with the dish would have been far more substantial. The burrata was fine, but nothing memorable. My friend ordered the chicken and brussels sprouts and didn't even finish it before having the plate taken away. The flourless almond cake was the star, a bit salty on its own, but with the ice cream and whipped cream it was a delightful combo which were the highlight. Overall, this is a great spot for cocktails, ambiance, and photos, but the food is fairly mediocre compared to the setting.

As soon as he found out it was my birthday, he genuinely celebrated with us. The personalized birthday card signed by the staff and the birthday shot with a candle were such thoughtful touches that made the night feel special. My only disappointment came afterward. I called hoping to find out my server's name so I could give him the recognition he deserved. I called a couple of times, left a voicemail, and only received a text saying, "Maybe it was Ryan." Considering there was only one male server working that floor that night, (7/19) I was surprised no one could simply confirm who it was. That was a little disappointing. Other than. . . I'll definitely be back for the cocktails, the mac & cheese, and the incredible hospitality.

A special thank you to Bailey, the Event Coordinator, who was wonderful to work with throughout the entire process. She was organized, responsive, and made everything feel easy and stress-free leading up to the event and the night of the dinner. The highlight was definitely the Rafter Room -- it was even more impressive in person than in the pictures. The space had a great atmosphere for a rehearsal dinner and made the evening feel really special for our family and guests. Highly recommend The Social Hall for anyone looking to host a private event in Tempe.

My first visit to Social Hall a few weeks ago was outstanding…read more I visited with my sister, daughter, and 6-year-old grandson on a Sunday afternoon shortly after opening. The restaurant is much larger than I expected and beautifully designed. We were greeted immediately, seated quickly, and had a wonderful server who walked us through the menu and offered recommendations. The food was excellent. I ordered the brisket nachos from the small plates menu and was shocked by the portion size. They arrived hot and loaded with toppings, including a generous helping of tender, well-seasoned brisket. My daughter's Brussels sprouts were crispy, flavorful, and topped with bacon. My sister loved her cheeseburger and truffle fries, and my grandson couldn't stop saying, "This some good food, Ma!" with every bite of his mac and cheese. What really sealed the experience was when the manager stopped by our table. She was warm, welcoming, shared some history about the restaurant, and made us feel genuinely appreciated as first-time guests. We left already talking about when we'd come back. Because of that experience, I brought additional family members and a friend back last night. Unfortunately, the second visit was very different. Our waitress was wonderful and provided excellent service, but the food lacked the quality and flavor we experienced the first time. I ordered the same brisket nachos and Brussels sprouts, but the portions and seasoning were noticeably different. The Brussels sprouts weren't as crispy or flavorful, and the nachos had very little brisket. When I mentioned it, our waitress graciously brought out more brisket, which I appreciated, but the dish still wasn't the same. Others in our group were disappointed as well. The wings lacked flavor, a burger was overcooked, and my son--who is a chef and was excited to try--didn't particularly enjoy his meal. The contrast between our two visits was surprising. Our first experience was easily 5 stars, while our second left us questioning whether we'd return. That said, because our first visit was so impressive, I'm willing to believe this may have simply been an off night. Social Hall clearly has the potential to deliver an excellent dining experience. I'm hopeful our second visit was the exception rather than the rule, and I would consider giving them another chance in the future.
